Dunno if this was ever in discussion, planned or negotiated due to whatever facts,
but i like the idea to have more diversity for all shatter mechanics.
split them up so each, clones and phantasms have their own shatter mechanic.
fights would get more spiced, im sure. although it would need more handling^^.

i dont expect any major change in mesmer design in future, except halfarsed downgrades based on 1vs1 related cries

i for myself would repeatedly consider to change scepter 1 with 3 balance it, so its somehow the 1hand version of the greatsword. plus maybe the fact that then scepter would be able to generate more confusion.

btw the description of actual autoattack is like this:
Shoot a bolt of energy at your target.
Shoot a second bolt of energy at your target.
Shoot out a third bolt of energy that damages your target

and if thats not enough it creates a clone that
Shoot out bolts of energy

Best Build for Survivability?

maybe full mantra-utils 0/30/0/(30)/0 is not the best build for surviving or even supporting, but it sure is the laziest one imo. no hassle with utilities most of the time. straight use of weapon skills, thats all. i recommend gs/staff for it (i tested it on champions and one terrible escort-event in orr and it worked well).
equipment is your choice, either full berserker or mix of zerker/knights/heal runes
(the 10points left u can choose the way u wanna emphasize your gear or illusions)

its a bit like Levitas´ killthingsfast mantrabuild, but with a bit more defense
and straight gs/staff oriented and no ascendend gear.
after messing things up with my old phantasmbuild while solofarming orr (the old setup feels like a painintheass to be played, i started to “dont give a kitten ” and just
remembering how relaitvely easy lvling was with staff/gs combi.

the build can be handled easily with good enough speed for solo pve. ive tested it shortly in orr and compared to my old setup, killspeed was pretty much faster (although im wearing a wild kitten mix of items. which gives me hope to have enough room for even more damage and optimization).
no need to hustle with any preparations during fights, just plain phantasm spam and extensive use of staff and gs switching. get your 4 mantras ready and use em just if absolutely necessary (mantras could be king during fights, if it werent that kitten long casting time. lack of support is a mess too)

the build can be modified in some ways
- 3 mantracharges thru gm trait XI in domination /see Levitas post
- pure berserker gear /glassy
- full defensive gear /not that effective imo
- rune setups with +boonduration
- deceptive evasion instead of mantra cd boost

but imo i recommend to be more straight into berserker or knights direction, cos staff and gs have enough defense utilities for pve solo plus regen/protection from traits and 9%dmg reduction thru illusion spamming.

again, this is somehow mainly meant as a lazymouse solo pve build

in order to maintain the constant 16% damage and benefit from another utility, like sigils or iDefender for example, u can put a second (or third) greatsword, preferably berserker stats, with 5% damage sigil (or even 10% with night sigil) in your inv and swap it after collecting 25 stacks of precision. either this or u go full damage with then 16 = 21%(26% at night) damageboost.

its a clear statement from anet.
speedrunners once a day earn moneys, no matter which dungeon, except some pathes.
if you want more money, just farm dungeontrash, kill all bosses and sell stuff.
worked well enough before and, for our small guild, had the sideeffect to train dungeon-newbs to know evry single boss+ losing fear of wipe = a dozen m8s on friendlists who care about and be able to use classmechanics in pve-teamplay.
chances are higher now for all players, who had a hard time finding non-speednap parties, to now have good times.
rest can rot in hell ^^

even if u consider the 50 power non existent, the 20% on cooldown wasnt worth losing 10points distributed in other traits. and imo its still not worth it. maybe if they would change the condition duration in domination with crit damage from dueling…

there is no balance in any game which uses more than damage or healing numbers.
u can balance plain number stats, quantity, but not abilites designed for primarily having a core of quality. at least not, if u have such wide range of skills like gw2 has.
the only 100% sure balance ever existing are mirrored teams.

plus i hardly recommend to evry devteam to let the community balance anything, no matter how kittenty the devs are trxing to balance anything.

most of the community isnt mature enough to talk about balancing anything via public forums. best thing would be a closed forum wiht invitation only for those who seem to have enough maturity, experience and knowledge about game mechanics of ALL classes AND being able to express it properly, no matter if english is your native language or highly trained. pretty seldom this.

honestly, i could never do that without drifting into useless blabla tbh.
making suggestions here and there is one thiong, but seriously discussing balancing aspects is a different story.

i suggest to free all actual trait-lines from cd-reduction traits and put those to a new weapon-traitline, so evryone has the choice of preferred weapon setups whenever he want to change em without being forced to a complete trait-build reset.

i further suggest a two step traitline with a 5point minor trait component for cd-reduction x and a 5 point major trait component with a weapon specific powerup to remain a second choice if someone wants to save those points for the profession traits.

a pure confusion glamour build around a phantasm-mesmer is possible, but it lacks heavily of versatility. it is obvious in theory and i guess its even harder ingame.

my version was like 20/0/025/25 or 20/10/0/20/20…

thats the basic problem of the skilltree. lots of possible builds around an idea of playstyle and at the end evryone has to play with a handful of builds, all with same equip and weapon sets…

the traits are way too shattered and scattered, and sometimes they are so weak or u have no clue which weaponset fits best (if it fits at all…) thakittens pathetic.

i was short before opening a thread where people post their actual ideas of a PLAYSTYLE build wether its viable or good or not and add critique to it why and how the build is bad, not playable etc or, just to show anet whats possible and y its at the end not possible to spec it

done is a perfect mesmer confusion mainhand weapon.

maybe then put on 3 a new ability which is using up the confusion stacks at once.

its not about balance, its about build variety mainly designing around the obviously most relevant and interesting thing in gw2: movement and awareness.
i dont think theres any damageproblem in pve at all in gw2, with no class. if so, people dumped down class abilites to its lame wow-core (tank and spank, then compare dmg output…) and then complain about it.

its not a balance issue, its a variety/design issue.

Phantasmal Haste trait broken after patch

i never observed any difference in attack cycles at least on test puppets in la.
IF that trait was ever working AND it has a benefit to shorten the whole cycle, i never saw it.
2h testing and stopwatch and all i saw was marginal differences in faster attack speed during the attack, the attack cycle itself wasnt touched at all (thats maybe the working as intended part of it idk) but from IC.
never saw any benefit from phantasmal haste during the time a played with it (few days few dungeon runs).
all pre 25 patch

anyway phantasmal haste is clearly a SHATTER trait. shorter attack cycle shorter shatter cycle. for me it was never a viable trait for pure nonshatter phantasm gameplay. thats y i say, movin IC to 25p trait was clearly a major hint from anet to the mesmer com “thou shall not negotiate shatter”

anet should rework the condition mechanics.
if they keep the 25 stack limit, they should either make them additive in damage or timelength and not overwrite stronger condition with weaker ones.

imo they should even distribute condition a bit straighter to professions and take away all randomness from applying them.

it makes no sense as a profession to have conditions like a bit of fire, a bit of poison, dumped down confusion or massive amounts of weak bleeds and give em just a new one called torment (thinking evrythings fine now…), when the whole package seems to be out of sync.
maybe condmesmer is viable, but all in all it looks messy and ugly to me, not logic pure and straight, like shatter or phantasm builds.

mesmer is a great unique profession, worth enough not being dumped down to another boring damage dealing john doe class only

im trying a hybrid phantasm build like 10/25/0/25/10 with stats distribution lets say 2/3 pw plus 1/3 cond or maybe the other way round, or 50/50 perc distribution, is viable?
atm i have no time to farm or buy enough items to test it extensivley.
played a little bit with it, but with the old power equip, and tbh first impression wasnt that good. with sw/foc and scepter/torch.

of course with hybrid u always sacrifice something, but question is, is the flexibility/variety u tryin to get any good or viable compared to the sacrified parts.

Chaos Armor? new change doesnt make sense.

yep. longer duration would do it, together with the fact that conditions will apply one after the other not at once. the longer u stay in the field the more it will stack in length of time

this should be a nice tool to put pressure in pvp fights too forcing movement, cos people have to move out of the area to cancel the effect and avoid the damage.

but im not that into pvp to be sure this wouldnt end up in spamming chaos-mesmers in pvp ^^.

less/few boons/conditions with random applying OR
more boons/conditions with no random applying at all

as an afterpatch-mesmer primary boons/condition should be
interrupts of all sorts/torment, confusion, bleed

for more
as it is, just without randomness

of course a grandmaster major trait to decide which way u wanna go.

oh and swiftness should be deleted from chaos storm at all…

guess its still the most versatile sort of build, cos u can use all sorts of weapon-sets+ glamour + phantasm boosts.
of course gs/staff is even more of good ol gimping without cd reduction traits, but if u ask me mesmer traiting is all about gimping yourself unless u play shatterstyle…

edit: tried it for a short while last night in orr. was a bit frustrating, cos i wasnt used to the weapon combi: sw/foc and sc/torch. maybe better to switch the offhands like in rossbiddles poisonapple build. yet my equip is not optimal for this condition/phantasm build, but tbh i have no clue where to go with the equipment.

one thing i experienced was, that i ate a lot of damage despite a decent amount of toughness and all the def skills on the weapons. was there any change of incoming damagenumbers since last patch?

would ahve been enough to put it on 15point minor, or even change it with a weak 20point master, but 25minor just shows me tbh that they dont have a clue about the strength and weaknesses and the interaction of mesmertraits IN PRACTICE.

im sure 20point at least wouldve the same effect of “sacrificing something elsewhere” to get that trait. 15point wouldve been a more mild change for testing purposes, but hey
it must be 500% and 25point mastertrait…

the ironic thing is that the ILLUSION line has the traits for phantasm-builds which wanna maintain their phantasms and only shatter tehm here and there, but infact its the pure shatter line…

they should split up the whole trait thing into a clone line for shattering (now illusions) and a phantasm line for either damage or support beyond 20 points.
afte that put the weapon specific traits to the other lines so that one have the choice between preferred weapon sets

tbh could live with evrything, but putting the 20% faster illusion to the 25p trait was THE arsekick for phantasm mesmers.

try to build a decent phantasm-set around 25 points in ILLUSIONS, which tbh should be called CLONES since patch… maybe im too desILLUSIONED now, but i couldnt find a single build yet, which makes sense.

Blurred frenzy used to evade EVERYTHING for it’s duration! Not some limited hits, not some damage-minus-protection, everything! Don’t you see a difference?

evryone complaining about blurred frenzy beig too strong maybe never used dodge…
even in pve combats blurred frenzy sometimes to often is nothing else than a protected windmill.

It seems to be that balancing and changes with regards to the mesmer class are being made while completely out of touch with the reality of this game. This patch only exemplifies that more.

Good Changes

These are abbreviated versions. There are obviously more changes that I didn’t touch upon, but these are the only changes that (in my opinion) actually make a difference.

Here is the main issue. The positive changes to our traits and skills are relatively minor or are complete bug fixes. On the other hand, the nerfs are massive. Anet is obviously spending developer and programmer time figuring out effective ways to nerf mesmers, while completely ignoring the parts of our class that are still completely broken. I will now list the largest offenders.

  1. The iMage could be replaced with a placeholder saying “This skill does nothing” and nobody would care
  2. The scepter (even after this addition of torment) is completely useless. There are 0 situations outside of a glamour build in wvw that the scepter is better than the sword, greatsword, or staff unless one ignores all functions of the scepter other than the block itself.
  3. Phantasmal haste still does not apply to 2 of our phantasms: Swordsman and mariner
  4. Illusionary elasticity still does not apply to staff clones
  5. Wastrel’s punishment is still useless
  6. Mantras are still extremely underwhelming with underwhelming and poorly designed traits
  7. Due to the nature of interrupts, the interrupt traits are still of very limited use

These are a lot of massive problems. However, instead of fixing these problems, Anet decides to hand out significant nerfs. The nerf to signet of illusions, in my opinion, is reasonable, but that’s pretty much it. Blurred frenzy is nerfed twice, once in evade and once in cooldown. Vengeful images is, for all intents and purposes, no longer a trait. Lastly, Illusionist’s Celerity is moved from 5 point minor to 25 point minor, nerfing every single build that is not shatter.

And as if all that weren’t enough, these changes are made in the name of build diversity. Anet is telling us “These changes are actually good for your class. We are doing this to help you.”

Build diversity eh? These changes make a tank build very difficult to play effectively now. They vastly remove potential diversity from both PvE and PvP phantasm builds. They significantly nerf the already very weak condition builds that mesmers have. Across the board, all non-shatter builds that mesmers have are negatively impacted, most in very significant ways.

The small buffs that they gave us are insignificant. Shattered conditions is nice, but with the other changes, it’s now much more difficult to use it effectively. The interrupt traits are nice, but when you couple that with the other changes they just become another shatter variant. Bounce logic was fixed, but builds that rely on that (conditions) are even weaker now.

On top of all this, the phantasm builds that were stupidly overpowered in a 1v1 are still stupidly overpowered in a 1v1. A small cooldown nerf won’t change that. People are still going to get facerolled by any competent phantasm build player and they’ll just cry for more nerfs.

Summary
These changes accomplished nothing positive for the mesmer class. The fact that they were made in the name of build diversity is insulting to every intelligent mesmer player. These changes, far from providing build diversity and flexibility, have significantly lowered the diversity of the mesmer class and restricted the flexibility our builds have. This is far and away the most devastating and most ill-conceived patch since this game was first released.

maybe i can add to it, that my mesmer build, which was build not on minmax, but playstyle is now at the point that i dont know for which CRAP i wanna spent my last 15 points…it seems all more or less pretty useless besides statspushing.

before patch it all made SENSE.
good that i leveld an engineer and guardian before. but tbh after years of being kittened up with my warlock in wow, with my HoX in AoC i tend to quit the game in a whole insted of sitting their watching the same sad scenarios again with a fav class/profession or doodling around with a second one…

i dont like the idea of designing combat in games the way that u end up standing still spamming cooldowns. now, this is definitely not the case
torment seems to be a “somehow solution” on a problem which wasnt exactly defined.
question is what is the case…except the fact that they moved one trait from minoradept to minorgrandmaster (imo to force diversity of builds wihtout phantasms, while imo most of the major gm traits are still poor to mediocre).

it really reminds me of the time blizzard deleted thehybrid warlock builds once in wow.

No, according to the writeup, necros were originally the only ones to get the condition, but because thief and mesmer condition builds are lacking, anet also decided to give torment to them as well.

but still my paranoid brain telling me, that the massive complaints about op 1vs1 mesmers was telling anet to give him one or two counterparts. to make it a little less obvious tehy spent mesmers torment too.
but can u imagine what a necro will do with a movement relying mesmer when he gets torment and conditions? not to speak of thieves with heavy condition/movement builds. very clever.
on the other hand …it would end the idiotic screams about op 1vs1 mesmers

i played the 20 games for the achivement.
i leeched maybe 5 out of 20 and even then i didnt leech fulltime of each match.

i really like this minigame, as some said it reminds of quake action, but i too would strongly recommend a kickout for leechers. although i dont think it would be helpful, cos of the length of each match. its just to short for a real benefit.

the problem is at first, as usual : the players

its the simplest thing to follow each other stayin together. some seem to not get managed even this simple mechanic

at second, i think it would be much better to have all skill from start and just implement boosts for pace and health and reduce, if not eliminate the respawntime (like in some q3 mods^^).
more action more gametime

once a team is starting to work together and the fact that some players know where the boosts are (like it was in q3 once), the bad team hardly can win anymore. maybe except, if theyre really willing to work together, but from my experience this happended once in 20 games.

i can only assume after all the deungeon runs ive made, that greatsword is mostly dumped down to its lowest damage in fights. its simply the whole package that makes it feeling like its, compared to other professions, a mess of a weapon/class design forced to jump constantly between range midrange and close combat while forced to deal not that much of a damage evry mesmers thinks he is doing.

in fact most of the time i have to act like a jerk or use closecombat weaponsets and building up illusions and combofields like mad to go even close to other professions utilities (the fact that my engineer is building up stacks of confusions in closecombat better than my phantmesmer says it all. besides all the other condition damage PLUS direct damage so to say. and noone complains about confusion of engineers, in fact noone even reckognizing them)
the rare situtations where mesmer shines doesnt fill the monstrous gap.
plus i dont give a kitten about 1vs1 abilites of certain mesmer builds.

no wonder most people use staff shatter builds.

Answer: No

on my first norn, i tried it out. thought more of that it is a powerup ON TOP of your normal skills, but…
i was pretty new to the game and got trapped…
never invested anymore any skillpoint so far on my other 3 norns

its a plain useless skin over time and as others said, it looks like halfa.r.s.e.d implementation.
they should it make plain simple with those elite skins.
u switch into form and get a powerup ontop of your normal bars.
what ever it is then, it will be better than replacing all skills as it is now.
imo even if its only 10 more for one stat it would be better.

owl and wurm on the other hand are great utilities for certain situations.

the 1 second is already built into the mechanics.
happens not that much that a mesmer is casting the wall right infront of his nose.

set wall-pull enemy-step or two steps towards it or send the warden. there is your second.

i guess u just want another second to get an asured escape from it 100%.
without being hit of course.

never did pvp til today nor using the testgolems.
was just wondering how dmg related math in pvp is working to mitigate that amount^^.
the only thing which made me supercurious was the swordsman damage hahaha…omg

and yes i never looked at healthbars of regular mobs nor did i know how much hitpoints any mob had. should have done it before. but i did yesterday haha.
should have reckognized the linear melting of the bar before when only warden ikittenting, but…

still can´t figure out why they show damage additive and combatlog for phantasm dmg is not shown or y there is no real testing puppet in la.

ok thats what i never saw. hitpoints of enemies and hits from illusions. tehy dont appear in my combatlog. maan i was just curious about it whole time. sure it would be insane for pvp. never did pvp so far, so i thought the math behind pvp was pretty much different from pve.
still dont know how much hp mobs have… thx for that one.

im just infront of puppets and my warden hits very often last hit over 4.
if this happens then the last 3 hits MINIMUM were around 3200 AVERAGE.
so count together:

4200 + 3800 + 3500 + 3000 = 14500 only for the last 4 hits
worst cycles end on 3600 and it happens wiht same average than maximum

at least 3 more hits are beyond 2000, so 20k is rounded DOWN.
just count the the lame rest together and i get my 20k in around 3-4secs.

so u say evry single hit is summed up from previous?

as im leveling my engi now, i would like to know if tehy plan to fix some pesky animation bugs, where the pistols blowtorch is shooting in a 90degree direction to the targetline even if the hit is landing or why the engi is missing so much shots, expecially when not standing on same y-axis height of target?

that blowtorch animation reminds me of same bug in aoc with HoX, and guess what, it was a firespell too haha…maaaan

if thats not how it works, y did i see those numbers over a timespan of 2hours over and over again? i must have some pretty bad visions or being drugged. even my m8 was then drugged.

maybe the puppets and all enemies in all dungeons from ac to arah were bugged too, cos i saw the same numbers there. warden ikittenting 12times in a row in 2 to 3 secs span continuously higher numbers

the question itself is a bit blurry, as u have to negate evrything else like combat situations, enemy behaviour, debuffs and armor asf.

if u wanna have blank numbers (on the puppets in la for example), than sword/focus does the most damage by far.
my mesmers warden hits puppets in la 12 times in a row evry 8 secs with actual gear the last hit is ending around 3800. the last four to five hits are over 3000.
so counted he is doing more than 20k damage evry 9 seconds (its more 8secs but math is easier with 9secs^^=.
wardens do this on three targets as aoe.
so lets say 3x 3 wardens dealing over 20k damage evry 9 secs in a 3sec span.
if u set them evry 3 secs for consecutive strikes u would have more than 20k dmg evry 3secs instead of evry 9. thats approximately around 10k dps on ONE target only those 3 phantasms! if noone kills em they would do that forever^^.

in theory. on stupid la puppets

i couldnt reproduce that blank numbers with any other weaponset, unfotunately the puppets dont show cond dmg numbers or crits
but it shows the biggest disadvantage of wardenmesmers.
9 secs to build up insane stationary burst dps. pretty easy to counter.

sad thing is that even engineers prybar makes more confusion damage than mesmers szepter. toolkits pry bar is putting 5 stacks of confusion on enemies with one single smack and the damage is not bad at all, sure u have to go close combat and scepter is channeled on “long” range, but very often i dont see full 5 stacks on enemies after channeling is over. tbh too often i only see 2 stacks or 3.

sad stuff…
