Thief - OP in late night WvWvW

I still don’t have problems with the culling, I hear them before I see them and got “target nearest enemy” assigned to middle mouse click which selects it before I see it and instantly press my knockback skill then immobilize. He hits me at most once before he flies and that doesn’t kill me.
Rinse and repeat until the thief gives up or I killed him because I managed to stack enough conditions in adition to the few hits I can do when he’s semi-invis due to culling.

I like turning into a plush griffon, nice disguise and half the size of an asura for traversing the map and indded for a good laugh or even confuse folks that opened a package.

a small P.s. I wish Anet would do something about those massive lags whenever you go to SM Lord room, prolly to many Cramped in small space, fighting is virtually impossible other then Autoattack, skills just don’t trigger.

It seems to be inconsistent to me, sometimes 3 way fights at the lord room with about the same amount of players inside (incl. stairways) go without the skill lag for me, other times it’s unplayable (esp. frustrating on my staff ele with the majority of skills being ground targeted).

It’s fine the way it is. Those only playing competetive pvp don’t need to gear up because everything is maxed and free in sPvP to keep everyone on a level playing field (bar class imbalances).
Basically it’s a separate game with different characters (the only thing that is the same in sPvP as your real character in Tyria is the character appearance).
Those that like open world’ish PvP play WvW and know that like with forms of world pvp implemented in almost every game you’ll have the character progression of PvE (though scaled up to 80).
With the current state, being able to take your sPvP gear into WvW would be completely unbalanced and unfair towards PvE/WvW only players that built their character for WvW by a combination of WvW and PvE. Which is the opposite of what you state.
Why would you deserve the same level of gear even though you didn’t contribute to the WvW battle yet and instead chose to waste your time in a different game mode just for your own bit of fun instead of contributing to your server?

Of course it’s nice to be able to show something off and having a nice emote, but sPvP is completely unrelated to WvW, they’re completely different games (essentially you’re even playing a different character).
As opposed to the PvE items you mention. There’s a clear connection between PvE and WvW in both directions, WvW giving buffs to PvE but also having the same gear etc. as in PvE because WvW is like the GW2 version of open world PvP.

So I’m not fussed either way, I can see why because it’s not related to eachother but if it makes folks happy why not.

Was wondering the same. A guildie offered to give me his BP’s he collected as he (at this stage) only is in WvW for world completion.
Even though some responses in this thread are reassuring, I’d still like to see a dev response on this wether it’s bannable or not as the wiki states it is.

1) I am asking Anet to fix this by adding a skill “Destroy” in skill slot 10 of all siege weapons. That way our team could easily destroy these flame rams, to let our yaks though.

If someone was spying on you this would make their job much easier.

Great point. I changed it so only commanders can destroy siege weapons.

You have too much faith in commanders It’s just a title that anybody, including spies can buy.

I did check the watergate and it was fully intact as I entered there and it’s not easily forgotten by me, it’s usually one of the first I checked.
Inner was fully intact when I entered thered and there was nobody else of our server around that could’ve repaired it. Yet sitll it could be a timing issue or something so you get the benefit of the doubt.

Did you check the wall %? As we did bombard the inner wall for a long time. We took it out with only one treb.
And yes, it might have been timing. But we were kinda long in the water gate also, but we started to take it out later when treb had already shooted the inner for sometime.

We also marched to lord right away after the inner wall went down.

Must have been bad luck on you when you didnt spot us. Better luck hunting us next time

Normally I wouldn’t post anything about suspected cheating and such but it’s the first time I experienced it first hand, or rather that everything (seemingly) pointed in that direction and got also called like that by other scouts in our /t chat.
The fact that the fights have been great all week and it’s been one of our best and most balanced matchups so far since launch actually added more to that frustration (diidn’t want to see the good fight ruined by some cheaters).
Looking forward to another week with the same matchup

Logging off and getting back in LA proper seemed to work for me just now, or they fixed it somewhere else.

Restarted the client and waited to get into LA main but still same effect for me.

I’ve also just filed a bug report about this, I didn’t get any rewards from Tixx in LA.

What happened is I talked to him and was totally expected a present in my bags so didn’t see the chest at first. At that moment my party entered the dungeon and I clicked to join them while still checking my bags.
Then I heard from my party it was a chest so I returned to LA, only to find the chest already opened and unlootable by me.
Talking to Tixx he tells me there’s only one gift disbursement per citizen.

Key to Zerg removing, is removing downed state. Yes I like escaping with vapor form. But in the end, my enemy servers (who love 60+ zergs), have escaped way more then me. Why? they could always get a ress from someone else. And ressing downed = 1-2k hp heal per second. This brings monking al the way back. (Wich arenanet clearly stated they don’t want any of it ingame) If you are downed and have support, you cannot die. They just ress you back up. Imo ress downed, may exist in wvw, (to give escape chance to some extend when you deserve it), but make the heal much worse. Make the heal only to 200-500 heal per second.

This will make people who are downed, actuallyh close to the reality, wich means they are almost certainly defeated, for making a mistake (if you go downed, you made mistake or sacraficed yourself for the better good). Now to much people escape from this faith by zerging.

I appreciate that you have a different opinion than me about the downed state and I do agree that it’s easier to get healed back up if there’s more players around (eg. in a zerg); but stating that removing the downed state is the key to removing zergs is laughable at best.
You really think folks only run in a zerg because of the downed state and all incentives to use the zerging tactics are gone if the downed state would be removed?
It was just another excuse to state your opinion about the downed state in a non-related thread.

I tend to open, grab the present and ruuuuuun. This worked every time so far for me without getting hit very hard (I’ve only done lvl 80 ones).

Even though you state it’s not everyone and I appreciate that, it’s still funny that you still call out a server and not a player.
More funny because the first time I ever spotted cheaters in wvw since the first BWE was last night a group of 5-6 UW players at keeplord of bay with both all outer and all inner walls intact (we were scouting the outside because it had the crossed swords on the map for some time so I checked every side before heading in), I was the Asura you killed, the only defender showing up inside.

Where else can you get the frames besides the daily dungeons? That is the only place I have seen them thus far.

Nowhere else afaik. But if trying for an endless tonic and failing, you get your frame back in the gift from zomorros (and get the consumable version of the tonic).
So you basically have to make the choice to go for minis (of which you can craft max. 2 because you don’t get more cogs) or for the tonics or any combination.

Maybe those so called hardcore pvp’ers shouldn’t be so prejudiced and narrowminded and just accept a few pve elements in something that’s supposed to be GW2’s version of open world PvP? There aren’t too many MMORPG’s with open world pvp that doesn’t have any pve elements at all…. If you’re looking for something purely pvp then go spvp or if your personal requirement is that it’s open world then you should be looking for something in another gaming genre than mmorpg.

I got the Endless Plush Griffon Tonic on 2nd attempt today but the toy soldier am now on 6 attempts.
Plush griffon has melee attack (range 115), daze (r: 200) and fear (r: 1200) for costume brawl skills.

Forgot to include this, but if I’m wrong you should totally call me out. If you don’t think MF was a total wiff on GW2s part and you actually PREFER this method as a means to acquire new gear (than a traditional vendor) feel free to state your case.

I don’t need to state my case because MF isn’t a way to acquire new gear for me. I don’t care about my looks in pvp so I just make do with whatever I get and what I don’t need instead of destroying it I put it in the MF with a chance to get something I might like (but not need).
Simmilar in PvE / WvW, I don’t need the MF, I buy my gear with karma. I see it more as a materials sink in a year or so when I start to have stacks of every material in game, don’t have any use for the gold so don’t need to sell them on TP and just throw them in MF and again maybe I get something I like (but don’t need).

The mini dungeon, commonly referred to as EB JP was designed to battle for resources (blueprints and badges) and cater to smaller scale pvp including but not restricted to camping and ganking. That’s why there’s also for example traps there to knock back or even kill enemies.
The problem is not the dungeon is designed like that but the problem is that pure PVE players need to do it for their legendaries if they’re so inclined to not participate in the battle which could be more fun than they think if they set aside their prejudices about pvp and pvp players.

I’m fine with special rewards having a very low dropchance. Makes it feel more rewarding and make you more happy about your drop when it does drop.
Also in many games where they changed from RNG with character bound stuffs to time investment based, everybody with the required time to acquire the shinies has the exact same stuffs cosmetic or not which makes it boring and nothing stand out or special.

I have the exact opposite opinion. In many other games the holiday events was something I wouldn’t really bother with as they weren’t fun at all.
In GW2 I find them tons of fun, (maybe a bit too) easy, relaxing and I’ve had a lot of spontaneous fun emoting and doing silly stuffs with other players. The rewards are ok, but is not something I play the event for.

Bump and /signed (was going to post this suggestion but a search found this older topic).

Ex-guildies from another game started playing GW2 on the same server (and I didn’t know they were going to play) and created a guild.
My own guild never got started so I wouldn’t mind merging with them, except they have a guild name I strongly dislike (referencing the server we played on in that other game and I like my names to be somewhat GW2 lore appropriate).
Because they’ve invested significantly more into the guild perks and have more members I can’t persuade them to join my guild with the cooler name so a fair compromise could be to rename their guild so we’re not loosing the accumulated / purchased influence and boosts of both guilds.

I prefer the old proven system of user generated chat chanels that can be password protected.
That way you still have some control over who in your friendlist can see what you type (there’s various reasons I may have people in my friendlist and considering them a friend is only one of them ).
In various other games I used those succesfully for alliances, specific themed chats etc.

The jumping puzzle was made to cater to campers / gankers and small group fights with the traps and all that being there. That’s why they do it, they play in it as intended.

Latency issues is not something that A.net could do someting about. It’s every single hub your data passes through on the way to the server and back that can cause delays and/or packet loss which also depends on your ISP.
Sure some might not notice any difference but I’ve noticed difference in various games that had localized servers and I switched between datacenter.
For example when lotro was still hosted by codies in EU I had a latency of 15-25 (most often 15’ish) because the server was located in my country. When turbine decided to have only 1 datacenter based in US my latency went up to 75 (very rarely this low)-150 (most often 100-120’ish) and I started suffering regular packet loss.
Not a big deal during normal pve stuffs but during raids I had a lot more d/c’s (as a main healer so not good), skill delay, freezes etc.
Now a raid is instanced only for your group, I don’t even want to try to imagine the effect in WvW if I had the same increase in latency here in GW2.

Tbh it sounds more like you want revenge because you’ve fealt disadvantaged this far than wishing for equality but that may just be the wording.
If it’s an established meme is also debatable, there are players that like their cam angle / FoV better on bigger characters and there are those that prefer and are able to jump more acurately on smaller characters.
For me personally for the current JP’s in game there’s some where I have an easier time on my sylvari, norn and human than on my asura and some where Asura is easier for me. So for me there’s already some sort of balance.
Overall I prefer the sylvari, not too big, not too small and always able to see my own character when other people around (on asura the cam is more “distant” if zoomed out which makes it harder to estimate “mid flight” where you’re going to land and if there’s other players around you don’t see your character at all).

Yes almost every mmo has it but it has always been an annoyance to me that it took relatively long to wait for your character to be logged out until you could log back in or in most games even to swap to a different character.
I love that in GW2 swapping characters is just a few clicks and back (to quickly get something out of the bags of an alt into the bank or craft something etc.) near instantly except for the very short loading screen compared to other games.

30 seconds is “relatively long”?

Yep if you suck at organizing storage like me and esp. in some other games where there was no account storage so I had to log through 4 characters to find my stuff then back to where I wanted to craft my stuffs and then again back to my main to continue playing Or swapping characters at start of / during a raid because I was preferred on another class that didn’t show up.
Each time staring at a loading screen up until a minute (logout and preloading when logging back in) gets very old.

Even though I don’t grind and just enjoy the game I don’t have as strong an opinion as you have. I don’t mind acquiring a legendary and ascended gear over time but I don’t go out specifically grinding to get them as grind is not fun and I play games for fun.
So I’m not against the adition of them and I disagree you have to grind for them to be able to get them.
I’m really not that fussed about them as I expect I’ll still be competetive, I didn’t feel much of a difference when upgrading to full exotics from a mix of rares and greens and my KDR didn’t change and I expect this step won’t be much different.

Hm, nor happy about this. You can get your PvE daily with only a short hop to PvE if you lack the 15 creature types. But you’d force ALL PvE/WvW casual players into WvW to get their rewards (PvE types are notoriously greedy for things like that) – adding to overall queues without actually adding to WvW play.

It might be a good idea to get more PvE into WvW, yes – but the downside will be many more people in the queues … on low tier servers I’d say like 10 – 20% are WvW regulars and the rest ist PvE …

Why would a PVE player come to WvW to do a WvW-only daily that rewards only badges and blueprints?
Those not wanting to contribute to the fight won’t have any use for the blueprints, and the ones going for the 500 badges legendary gift are already in there to do the JP’s anyways.
So I don’t think it would really attract notably more PVE players to take up queue slots.

No way brah, all this ascended crap is by design since day 1 ANet just didn’t feel it was right to release it at launch or some other lie they came up with to make you believe they didn’t create Ascended gear because some people whined about being bored and ANet panicked.

As of right now legendary weapons are mandatory simply because they will always be best in slot no matter what.

Do you realize that when they’ll raise the level cap (and/or add new legendaries), which they already said they will with an expansion, current legendaries will be totally useless, right?

Do you realize that this depends on the implementation that maybe even A.net isn’t sure about yet? they could scale existing weapons up and stuff like that.

And for the person you quoted: maybe mandatory for the type of player you are but I couldn’t care less if / when I’ll get my legendary and I haven’t even thought about repeatedly running FotM to start on the ascended stuffs. Also they already anounced that will be made available through other means as well and that they add it phased so that every has the time to acquire it? I’ll be lmao when I just get my ascended items a couple of months later than others by just doing whatever I enjoy and not worrying while those others repeated FotM ad nauseum for it.

Hahahahahah! That’s rich.

You have to grind if you want to get any sort of reward this century. Ascended items are a massive grind, around 100+ hours of nothing but hardcore grinding for a single item (or double that for an infused version).

“Just playing” you probably won’t even ever afford an exotic set at current prices, much less be able to get cosmetic items or Ascended gear.

Got full exotics and didn’t grind nor farm. Didn’t even run a single dungeon. Bought the armour with karma I acquired while exploring the world, bought 2 exotic weaps with badges of honor, crafted the jewelry.
In total I’ve banked 120G according to the gold hoarder achievement, all acquired while just enjoying the game and selling any drops I couldn’t use.

edit: forgot to mention I have a second character at level 80, he’s got 1 exotic weap, so far 2 exotic armour pcs. and 1 exotic jewelry pce. acquired in the same way as mentioned above.

And also I don’t play this game for rewards but for fun, I’m not the skritt type of player.

The whole point of these nerfs, which are intentional without a doubt, is that you spend more rl money on their piece of crap gem store. No subs so they have to sucker you in some how.

Not really, even A.net knows that with the exchange rates from gems to gold not very many people will go down that route to reduce the time required to acquire whatever items you’re after as compared to gaining it through gameplay.
If some rich kids are able to do so, good for them and good for A.net but the average gamer won’t buy say 100G with gems.
It would be different if they added the mats they nerfed the droprate for to the gem store. But assuming they do it to get players to buy gold is a bit too much conspiracy theory. I’m sure they have a reason whatever it may be.

The way I see it, a legendary is something loyal players “natually” get over a longer period of time depending on how many hours you play.
Going out to grind specifically for a legendary is just insane imo and maybe a little bit pathetic that you can’t enjoy the game without having one.

Hacking can never be permanently fixed, they’ll always find new ways.
And what’s worse usually hackers are faster with developing new tools, finding new ways to get through the security layers than any company analysing the root cause and implementing a fix for it.
The only way to be 100% save from hackers and future hacks is to not be connected to any network that connects in any way to the interwebz.
Look at it like a lock, every lock in the world can be broken (I actually know a guy who “as a hobby” helped testing RL locks (like padlocks, door locks etc.), police and producers of locks sent him samples of their latest unbreakable lock and he was able to open all of them within at max a week) regardless if IRL or on the webz .

I don’t think a content update to WvW after half a year is too much time waiting, it’s a system that’s very easy to completely unbalance and needed time at first in the live enviroment to make any conclusions on its state and how to improve upon it.
If they had added more things earlier without much development time they probably would’ve broken more than fixed or added.
Furthermore, I know plenty of P2P games that had far less content at release and far less things added afterwards within the same timeframe after launch, esp. on the pvp side of things. The majority of games didn’t even start with seasonal events yet and we’ve already had 2.
And of course the PvE experience will be fixed / improved upon and added to first because it’s simply where the most of time over the playerbase is spent and where the first impressions of the game are usually had. The amount of WvW only players is relatively small, even folks that WvW a lot often also like some PvE stuffs on the side.
Patience is a virtue that too many people lack. What’s waiting 2 more months for a large WvW update, it’s not like it’s unplayable in its current state, I’m still having fun fights in there even though I agree a lot can be improved upon.

Regardless of how many “lulz” people had with it, stealth capture/prevent capture was a disaster and definitely needed to changed.

My main is a thief and couldn’t be happier. Maybe people will stop their endless complaining now. No but really if you didn’t think that was going to get fixed your brain is underdeveloped.

nah now we will just have more complaints about people getting 2 shotted because they decided to go glass cannon build and feel that they should win automatically.

The 2 have never been mutually exclusive (getting 2shotted by a stealth capper I mean) so I think there’s won’t be more complaints, just about half of what it used to be.

i see every server has pathetic JP camping guilds…
is that really why you bought the game?

There’s players who prefer that playstle in any game. It’s the type of players that like ganking / camping in oPvP games.
Not my style because I’m too impatient for that but I do appreciate some of the nicely balanced long / hard small group fights I had in there, something that’s almost impossible to have in the main part of the WvW maps because almost always a bypassing zerg will instantly end the fun.
sPvP doesn’t fill that gap either and oPvP won’t be added, WvW is A.net’s version of it.

I would have never moved from FSP nor do i ask anybody to move from there, however we also have to acknowledge the fact that it wants to be PVE focused,

Considering the cap on players in WvW maps, you won’t really find a WvW focused server (those that attempted to be one weren’t for long time because guilds sick of the long queue times started server hopping), at least until free server transfers have been disabled.
So I think we have to acknowledge that currently every single server is a server catering to and focusing on all gaming modes.
And I don’t think our server has the wish to be only PvE focused nor the majority of our players wishing that we wouldn’t be partaking in WvW at all.
It’s the WvW players transferring off that made our activity in WvW less, not the PvE players chasing you / them off the server.
If all guilds that transferred off would’ve stayed around we wouldn’t have dropped any further than t2 and if we had gotten our night team ready then, we might’ve even been back in t1.
But I guess not enough people have the balls to stay around and try to give that extra bit of energy needed to turn things around. It’s much easier to just go for the greener grass sown by others for you.
I realize this may sound I’m still bitter about that but it’s just a reaction to the many times I’ve heard now that those guilds “had no other choice”, “the server was dying” or “it’s just a pve server so not worth our presence” etc. on which I call bs.
