So called WvW guilds

In my MMO experience since 1999: the larger the guild the worse the experience. Members become numbers, there’s small inner groups causing drama and the quality of people is far lower because they took aboard basically anybody without screening to reach those numbers and suck at quality control which allows them to keep said numbers.

option 5 : Remove the kitten JP from WvWvW entirely it is nothing but a waste of manpower

It would only be a waste of manpower if your server would have loads people in there but the opposing servers not. Except for in the lower tiers it’s fairly balanced in the number of players per server being in there so it has no impact on manpower in “the real” WvW.
Personally I like it that it’s an open’ish environment (yes I know it’s instanced but not timed nor objective / points based like sPvP matches) which allows for small scale pvp with a lot of terrain to use to your advantage.
The amount of small groups fights in “the real” WvW aren’t that plentiful and more often than not if it’s a good and balanced fight that goes on for a while either or all sides get annihilated within seconds by a bypassing zerg.
If they remove it then it should either be a separate map or a whole new game mode that doesn’t end, but I’m actually fine with how it currently is.

Loot tables? What are those!

Bah humbug all RNG

You know that RNG is fuelled by loot tables right?
Usually in games every mob / chest whatever drops loot has a table with items it pulls one or more randomly from. Part of what determines the chance for a particular item to drop is how many different items are in the table (in more primitive forms the % is even determined by having eg. 5x item A and 100x item B in it so the chance it pulls item B is bigger).

Remove the jumping puzzle.

:)

I agree with this as well. Don’t see the point in having it there in the first place.

The point is that there’s small scale pvp possible in an open’ish environment with a lot of terrain to use to your advantage that isn’t time nor objective controlled (sPvP matches).
Since WvW is the GW2 version of open world PvP I think it’s a nice inclusion to have something for the ganker / camping style players as well. Unless severely outnumbered it offers better chances for that playstyle than on the rest of the WvW maps where you always risk being zerged during that epic 3v8 battle.

What a let down. If they wanted to make this kind of game they just should have been up front about it.

True, but lets be real here, would they have gotten so much money at the start if they were upfront about going vertical progression ala wow? Mmm maybe not.

Just a thought..

It’s very ignorant / stubborn (sorry no native english speaker, looking for right word without offense :P) to still compare the vertical progression to WoW after the provided answers. Adding a tier over the course of a year and no plans to add a new tier for at least a looooong period of time isn’t really “ala WoW” where each patch contains a new gear set.

To all those people think this is fair. You are dead wrong that is all. This is a low risk high reward technique and shouldn’t be in a game that is balance. Im not going to answer any troll post.

If you hadn’t included this last part I might have taken your post seriously and might even have agreed to a certain extend.
An opinion can’t be right or wrong so those people aren’t dead wrong, they just have a different opinion than you. And WvW is never going to be balanced and is designed to be unbalanced (and on several occasions advertized as such, already some time prior to launch) so that point is moot.

I think its good that you can upgrade your gear to a level better than newer players and slackers. If you want to be casual then you can accept being slightly out of date sometimes or you can go play sPvP that is built around that ideal.

The only casuals are the scrubz who want a gear advantage, real PvPers want to PvP not Gear vs Gear.

Thsi was one of the attractions of this game knowing that upon reaching level cap, everyone would very easily be able to get the top tier (statwise) of gear and be on a level playing field when it comes to gear.

The level playing field will never happen in WvW, it was designed to be imbalanced and also advertised on several occasions like that. There’ll always be lower level players in there and players that don’t have the max. gear yet. For example more than half of levelling my main I did in WvW, only started doing (and completed) pve map completion about 2 weeks ago and only have full exotics since about 2 weeks as well and tbh I don’t feel really more powerful or effective compared to the mix of greens and rares I wore before.
This will be the same with the phased introduction of the new gear, there’ll always be players still in old gear and/or levelling.
The only level playing field gearwise in this game can be found in spvp.

WvW because they enjoy both WvW and PvE, it seems to me that you should’ve put some more research into mmorpg’s in general and this game specifically before buying it.

People did put in research before buying it, that is why there is a thread with over 10,000 replies in the general discussion forum on the fact that Anet has done a total u-turn on what it stated before the game was released in relation to gear progression / treadmill.

That’s down to interpretation, for me the manifesto still holds through because it isn’t a gear treadmill but a one off adition of a tier they found was missing after they had experience with the live game for some time. That’s all part of development.
It’s not gear progression in its current implementation but rather progression inside only 1 specific dungeon. Furthermore looking forward, they add the new gear phased so everybody has time to acquire it and they will introduce ways to acquire them through other pve means, probably simmilar to currently the exotics eg. very easy. So it’s only silly to farm for it now, people don’t realize they’re doing the grinding themselves (and then often complain that the game is grindy, well not the way I play it and I’m still competetive).

But that’s not the discussion at hand and not what I meant either, if they would have introduced a full fledged new zone and / or multiple nice new dungeons other than fractals and / or more spvp game modes then the effect on WvW would have been exactly the same. Most mmo players play where the enjoyable new stuff is at. The amount of pvp purists is relatively small, most that fall in that category play other games like moba’s or shooters.

This game has all 3 sPvP / WvW and PvE. It isn’t a PvP only game, else they wouldn’t have added any PvE at all.
Since you state you didn’t buy GW2 to PvE and indirectly blame other players to not be in WvW because they enjoy both WvW and PvE, it seems to me that you should’ve put some more research into mmorpg’s in general and this game specifically before buying it. I know no single mmorpg that doesn’t have less PvP’ers for a short time when a new patch is released that also includes PvE updates.
The reason why I’m hardly in WvW since last week is because I enjoy all aspects of the game which includes PvE. But I’ve only done the new dungeon 1x, I’m levelling my second main character instead which isn’t really viable in WvW because you then don’t get enough skillpoints.
In the long run it’s even good for WvW that I’m not there now as the more lvl80 characters I have, the less likely it is I get bored.
Oh and I think PvE in GW2 is way better than in that other game.

Even though I was unlucky (got 2 bad rares, 1 lvl76 bad exotic boots, 1 lvl80 bad exotic shield) I don’t envy others who got precursors nor do I think adding it was a bad idea.

I can see why they did it; they have stated several times they were tracking the price of precursors on TP and found it to be too high and there’s 3 things confirmed they’re doing now to counter it as well as addressing player complaints since launch about it:
A) rewarding them to a relatively large group of players with this event is a first step that will drop the price, at least for some time (this morning The Legend was on there for 140G, yesterday afternoon it was 340G)
B) As mentioned in the patchnotes, the chance to create one in the forge has been slightly increased
C) They mentioned they’re working on adding a scavenger hunt type of way to acquire them. So soon everyone will be able to work for them.

I’m lucky to be able to attend all phase change overs of the event, but even if I weren’t I love that there’s one time only events with a (semi-) permanent effect on the world which is something many players have asked for since beta because other events are on a spawn timer / trigger and feel repetetive.
Making it instanced would be more inclusive of all players but would also take the charm away from it for me.
What I’ve missed in all mmo’s of the past decade (except maybe Rift before the dungeon finder was introduced) is open world action, almost all of them are reduced to lobby games (until a new zone is added) after you’ve hit max level.
The most fond memories I have from another game is when there were one time only GM-run events (for example huge monsters controlled by GMs attacking a city or joining the pvp fight).
That’s why I love GW2 so much, there’s a lot of open world action and a large beautiful world to explore. One time only open world events play perfectly into that.
Can’t wait for the event to start

I don’t see it as a lie because that implies they already knew they were going to add a new tier when the manifesto was published. It’s more like partly changing their mind along the way based on findings with the live game. Probably if they would’ve had certain data / feedback or had already started developing the new content in time for launch, then ascended gear would’ve been in at launch.
If applying the same logic folks now use to call them liars to RL, this means that every time you change your opinion on something you have been lying about it prior to that.
It’s part of development to change things along the way while still trying to hold to your design philosophies and although it’s on the border of it for me the manifesto still holds true for now.
Almost every other MMO I’ve played I’ve seen less rage about more obvious empty promises or changing to something priorly stated would never be done.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand the concerns of folks but I think too many are overreacting. Especially the childish threats of ragequits before the patch is even live and feeling entitled for refunds etc.

And it doesn’t justify any turn over regarding their manifesto Holska.
And it doesn’t mean they wouldn’t break this promise one more time (watch my signature)

I didn’t mention anything about that, I just replied to the poster I quoted that tried to devaluate another one’s post that stated it couldn’t be seen as a treadmill because it’s not periodic.

But on your topic, that’s still down to interpretation. I don’t see it as mandatory for me personally because I probably won’t be running the deeper levels of the new dungeon so don’t need it. It’s only required if yo do, so that makes it optional in a way.
Those that do run the dungeon will often do so multiple times and acquire the ascended stuffs along the way and I expect they have it before they really need it. It’s progression within the dungeon in this patch, not gear progression, grind or treadmill.
Furthermore anything in this game is only a grind if you make it one, I’ve never grinded for anything in this game so far, I’ve enjoyed playing through content and naturally acquired some upgrades that way but didn’t specifically go out to acquire them nor ran specific content. So the grind is entirely optional. I didn’t even notice much difference between rare and exotic both in dungeons and WvW, I didn’t get killed more often in WvW when I still had greens with a few rares.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with you. But basically what you’re saying is that these “locusts” don’t have a right to express how they want their game play to be? What makes them wrong and you right on determining the betterment of this game?

They are the 1%. They don’t have right to ruin the game for the 99%!

Did you ever stop to think that maybe just maybe this is going to be the only rarity change? They haven’t compromised on their consistent power levels for each rarity of gear. They are just adding an additional level of rarity to support infusions…

For all these die hard fans that are saying agony is going to ruin the game experience because it is a gear wall… It was in GW1! So were infusions. Oh no! Arena Net actually made the game a proper sequel. Let’s all go delete our accounts now and form a picket line.

It’s not a gear treadmill until it becomes a regular thing. I’m pretty sure Arena Net knows what they promised. They spent 5+ years of their lives making this game and you think they forgot their vision? Are you being serious. The attitudes of whiners on this forum kills me sometimes. One second you love them the next second you’re screaming for their blood. I would venture to say a large portion of these forums users are bi polar.

did you fail to read the entire blog? this is the first of many.

Did you fail to read this:

We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.

and this

We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards.

So a) they confirm they’re not adding a treadmill in the sense that there will be regular periodic new sets and b) they explain what they meant by more items to come, namely a phased addition of the other pieces to give everyone time to gather them and avoid creating a too big gap in the playerbase.

Also it will probably be easier to get in future:

Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content.

Barely anyone around for world events.

I actually like it better with only few other players around than the event bosses dying within a few eyeblinks because there was a huge player zerg at launch. Now I actually get to participate in combat and use all the skills I have.
Also I’m not the type of player that needs a cookie or a number going up in some panel for everything I do, I just enjoy doing the content and what I choose to do at a particular moment is whatever I’m in the mood for.
This might be going to a low level zone I like, running a dungeon, WvW, sPvP, crafting, kegbrawling, jumping puzzles, try different builds, play an alt or whatever pops into my mind.
So for me the goal at max level is basically to enjoy myself doing the same stuffs I enjoy while levelling

edit: Oh and note that I’m not a casual player (I don’t like that terminology but seems forum posters love to apply tags to each and everyone). I play 3-4 hours per day on weekdays and 16 hours per day during week-ends and have done so consistently since headstart.

It never has been pointless to begin with. I’m still having awesome fights and don’t need some number going up in some panel or see player names / kill spam (that I would disable anyways) as an incentive to play it.
In games that have all you mention I don’t get the fun out of seeing numbers but out of the actual fights. Same applies here except I don’t have to ignore the numbers because they’re not there in the first place.

Seriously guys, if this wasn’t a new tier of gear that was set to replace exotics in everyway which is the impression most people seem to have.

Then arenanet would have said something by now, they would not let this misconception fester.

They did, in this news post https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/

It’s not going to completely replace exotics, and the way it looks to me is that the only noticable effect will be when running that new dungeon in the harder modes. For all other aspects of the game it has just +2 of every stat without the posibility to choose the stats yourself because you can’t mod them except for the infusion thingies that only are effective in the dungeon.

badges are useless… it doesnt matter.

You need 500 badges as part of creating a legendary weapon. So if you plan to get a legend they certainly won’t be useless.

Well my point is, things that you can buy with badges arent that good and cannot get you motivated to collect more. And as for legendary, that item is not applicable for all. So…. for me imho, its useless.

Thats why I go wvw for the pvp and fun. not for the badges.

Although I also play for fun and not for rewards (not just in WvW), I’m motivated to collect more for the gear because they’re a set with power/toughness/vit on every single pce.
To get that with the PvE exotics available for karma I have to mix and match and then use transmutation stones to give them a uniform look which requires more gear pcs. overall as well if I happen to like the looks of one of those sets and want to combine half of it withthe stats of the other set.

What are current "international" servers?

in WvW

(for some weird reason RU is not considered part of EU by ArenaNet, as you can see from this page listing the geographic designation of all countries, just click on “Europe” “North America” and “Other” at the bottom of the page to expand the list).

Well Russia isn’t fully in Europe so they’re right about that.
Even though most people (~78%) live in the western / central part which is located in Europe, 75% of the total Russian territory lies in Asia. Therefor it definitely falls into the category “other”. As for the datacenter to connect to, probably EU is the best one.

@OP: I think all servers have some intercontinental presence (except maybe the language tagged ones), but it’s not all that noticable on all of them. The only one really noticable is Desolation. But I imagine you’ll see that changing as folks on other servers get furstrated too and Deso is full now. (from my server FS a lot of guilds transferred over to Deso to have that advantage but since it’s full now the left over WvW guilds can’t take the easy way out anymore and have to organise 24/7 presence themselves if they so desire it).

Merge the EU/US Servers

in WvW

Posted by: holska.4127

holska.4127

I’m strongly against global datacenters or linking the datacenters on eachother to allow for merged ladders which would most likely create a lot of network lag. Almost all games have separate datacenters and server tags for a reason.

Many players have already experienced in other games what impact latency can have. To give an example, when lotro EU was no longer hosted by codies but on the same server park in US by turbine themselves, my latency went from 15-25 tot 90-160.
This was really noticable by me during PvE endgame raiding. I had short dc’s due to packet loss and network lag far more often than before, textures took longer to load and there’s nothing anybody can change about it other than improving all hubs along the route from my house via my ISP to the game servers in US.
In PvP this will be much more noticable than in a PvE instance so for WvW that would be horrible for me.

To everyone who is complaining about “fair weather” guilds and players:

Why did many guilds and players choose FS as a server to join in GW2? Do you think all the guilds you had looked at a server list and randomly selected FS? That there was no fair weather organization prior to game launch, a in a way that went like this: “Hey guys let’s all group up here, so we have the highest chances of winning”?

Prior to launch you can’t really call it fair weather because you don’t know yet how the weather on a server is going to be just going off a list of some guild names that didn’t even establish themselves yet?
Even if some of the players were known from other PvP games that doesn’t guarantee they’re going to be playing good in GW2 as well.
Nor does it say anything about how those guilds will work together and influence the server.
Also the population and amount of guilds was fairly even spread at launch time over more than just 1 or 2 servers so you also couldn’t know yet how certain servers were going to perform.
The experience from BWE’s also didn’t tell much since many guilds switched servers for launch and servers that performed totally crap during BWE’s were great at launch and the other way around.

I’m more demorizalized by the amount of people abandoning our server within only 2 or so weeks than by nightcapping.
Enforcing EU / NA isn’t going to work, when A.net announced region lock on the purchase (even without mentioning anything about playing on EU server while located in NA) there was a lot of rage all across the interwebz of folks travelling a lot for work, working in shifts or always during their prime time etc.
Removing the region flags completely could be an option if the datacenters are physically both located in NA, else not due to latency issues players on some ISPs with dodgy routes might experience. But specific language servers will probably need to stay, they are there in many mmo’s for a reason.

That said, when I get the feeling we indeed are getting organised and things are picking up again, I could be persuaded to join a night team for a period of time. Just a matter of going to sleep extremely early to stand up in the night and play until time to go to work

What is "Night capping" for you?

in WvW

Posted by: holska.4127

holska.4127

Most MMO’s I played had EU tagged servers, most with own datacenters for NA and EU.
Almost all of those didn’t have a region lock either, and those that had were easily bypassed.
So it’s sort of the standard thing to do for the PvE game.
If servers would be region locked there would be a lot more whining / rage by those that travel a lot for business and such, like for example the big outcry prior to BWE’s when A.net announced buying the game would be region locked.
This unfortunately affects WvW as well because it’s server vs. server.
Creating separate international WvW servers would either rule out a large chunk of the playerbase from playing WvW at all or would force you to be a member of 2 servers, 1 for PvE and 1 for WvW.
So I don’t see it as a design failure, it’s part of the WvW game and could be predicted to happen ever since it was anounced.

So, would anyone mind updating me on the history of FS’s WvW and why we’re in a decline atm. ?

Thanks

We’ve been no.2 server of EU for weeks after launch and were actually the strongest force on the maps during primetime but still VS (FR) always had at least twice the amount of points we had because they had a night team which we didn’t have.
Apparently many folks care about the points and winning that number game instead of the actual fights so they got frustrated that match after match we lost to a night team. I can understand the frustration about capping and fully upgrading keeps and loosing them every single night.
Then we landed in t2 and there met Deso who were on their way back to t1 after they had dropped a lot of tiers down when they first met us in t1 shortly after launch, they had reorganised and made an alliance with an NA guild to have a night team.
Only a few days into this matchup (that was during halloween event) the morale of our server had reached it’s low and more and more WvW guilds started transferring off, a lot of them to Deso.
Instead of trying to get our server organised they jumped ship to a server that already did that.
I think Deso has proven that it’s very well possible to recover after having dropped a few tiers and should be an inspiration to those left on our server. Don’t take the easy way out but put in some effort to help us get organized if you’re in a WvW guild and you’ll see we’ll recover.
This is from a random player’s POV (that’s why I won’t be the one stepping up, I’m in a tiny guild that didn’t even get started yet partly thanks to server transfers), the version from members of those WvW guilds / alliances will probably be different (but since they don’t communicate with PUGs, only on their own TS servers how am I supposed to know).

deals loads of damage but that’s about all its good for

I also sometimes like to use it as an element of surprise. I’m mainly running staff build and act ranged caster’ish, folks just don’t expect me to suddenly turn around while on the run and start spinning that sword. I’ve downed 6 players chasing me in one spin that way when protecting inner SM.
But yeah it’s underwhelming overall just not completely useless, like the tornado only situationally useful.

Last thing I want is to dc and try to relog with a “character already logged in” error, that I commonly see on other games that have a timeout to log.

In GW1 there was a mechanic that kept your session alive after crashing / closing the client for a certain amount of time. When logging back in you were asked if you would like to try to reconnect to your old session.
That worked flawlessly for me (also for example in missions the instance was kept alive so you could log back in right where you were inside the instance when you crashed).
So I think A.net should be able to do it right without that error you mentioned because they’ve done so before (and GW2 runs on a heavily modified version of the same engine).
I think it should even be slightly longer than 20s because if you get a bsod or for some other reason you have to reboot your pc after the crash, you might not be able to make it back on time depending on your machine.
Especially with the long queue times on some servers.

The droprate on player kills and even lords etc. could indeed be improved somewhat, but I strongly disagree with having them rewarded for capping as then it becomes too easy to farm them so many players will do only that, and even provides an incentive for cap trading with the enemy because flipping back n forth all the time would be a benefit for all parties.

On the lootbags I have no strong opinion, there’s many players that like loot drops from player kills if I go by the forums of all major mmo’s since 1999 and A.net’s implementation isn’t that bad because it’s still a physical drop and at least the lootbags drop at your feet. It’s not like in some other games where you had to loot the actual corpses of other players but it’s also not completely autoloot, a fair compromise.

I don’t care if they were respected WvW guilds or not, jumping ship to servers with a night team or to a low tier with no chance of a night team as opponent, is just the easymode way out no matter how you look at it.

If you consider that you might need a double crit with rares (crit to exotic, crit to precursor) I think you are loosing your time with rares.

Depends the situation really. With exotics there’s not much room for improvement (eg you loose 3 exotics every time you don’t get the pre-cursor), with rares you can always get an exotic back which you can sell to buy more rares and have another shot.
In my case, I’m currently almost broke and nearly out of crafting mats as well after having levelled another profession to 400.
With my last bit of money I bought 4 rare level 80 staffs from TP and I got a named exotic in return that I could’ve sold for ~3G if I wouldn’t have wanted to keep it myself.
So instead of having to wait on lucky drops for exotics or enough gold to buy them, I’m still able to continue my luck with much cheaper / easier to get rares and earn some money in the progress and/or gives me more exotics to gamble with than if I wouldn’t throw in rares.

My results so far:
12x lvl 80 rare staff = 2x rare + 1 x named exotic
12x lvl 76+ random rares = 1 x lvl 80 exotic + 2 x lvl 80 rare

The most frustrating game content ever

Why be so negative about the whole event just because you can’t beat only 1 specific part of it that isn’t even required for the meta achievement?
I liked it a lot that there was something that actually was a bit of a challenge to complete among the easymode event stuffs. If you develop all parts of an event so that really everybody can do it by targeting only the lowest common denominator, a large part of the playerbase will be terribly bored and stop playing it after a couple of hours at most. The other way around if you develop for only the most skilled hardcore gamers, a large part of the player base will be highly frustrated.
That’s why there needs to be a balance, some elements easy, others challenging but still doable. And folks need to accept that there’ll always be some part that they either find too boring or too challenging to complete and choose to skip that particular part if it bothers them that much.

How much money did you spend on BL keys...

I wouldn’t spend any RL money on a cosmetic item, especially not if it involved gambling.
During the event I’ve only opened 2 BLC so far with keys I got from map completion. I didn’t get lucky so shrugged and continued to enjoy the event.

Why do you need the badges? Power/Toughness/Vitality Gear for your PvE? You could run Ascalonian 20x for this gear anyway. Your argument has too many holes.

Remove all PvE from WvW.

WvW jumping puzzles aren’t PvE but smaller scale PvP objectives with a reward in the end to have an incentive to partake in it. There’s people that like small scale PvP / camping / ganking in an open’ish environment instead of just being able to do short sPvP matches. I’ve had some incredibly fun battles in some of them.

Give people a reason to Wv3 other than the weekly scoreboard

Some people like dungeons (and get unique skins for it) some people like achievements and get titles for it. Some people like wvw and as of right now have very little to show for it on a personal level so why not? If it does not compromise balance or game play it should not be a problem.

I understand and appreciate that, but I guess my point is that there’s already a bunch of WvW achievements in game that give titles.
And since the OP was raving about a ranking system and I personally don’t see much difference with the achievements, they could also add more achievements and / or new tiers instead of developing a ranking system that basically shows the same thing: a player’s time spent in WvW.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not outspokenly negative or positive about something being changed to incentivize, I’m just doubting if a ranking system would offer that incentive.
Personally I just play for the fun of it so I don’t care either way.

I don’t see how a personal ranking system would be much different than achievements. Both are just some number going up in some stats screen and only represent the amount of time put into the game or a certain activity. Neither stands for quality of play or real measurable dedication to the fights, nor are rewarding.

Thanks for the awesome event A.net ! I had a blast and am already eagerly looking forward to the next one
Glad that the party goes on for a day because today is the only day during the event so far that I can’t be in game when the phase changes.

I thoroughly enjoy all of the halloween event. I’m not a gambler though so I only opened 2 BLC with keys I got from completing 2 low level maps on an alt and I had the luck (none) I expected so I shrugged and continued to enjoy the party.

My experience is that even though I’m lvl 80 in full exotics those are the type of groups I should avoid because they’re usually full of annoying people.
If I’m going for a pug I just invite whoever does an LFG regardless of level or class becuause it can be easily completed (even fast) with non-80’s and any group compilation. I’ve been in several groups with only me as lvl80. So I would gladly take you for a couple of runs if you were on my server.
I’ve never had the farming / speedrun get shinies asap attitude though.

As far as I can tell the achievement doesn’t give any rewards except the account points and it also doesn’t count towards the main event achievement.
Personally I still think that you can learn and progress, you don’t need to “have it”. You can learn the dancesteps how, where and when to jump. I needed a lot of attempts too and am generally not the best puzzling jumper even when I don’t have the pressure of time based or race, but after I completed it once I could get to the end consistently or after only very few attempts.
I also disagree on making it a solo instance, I like that it’s a race which is adding another level of challenge, you basically just have to ignore the others clogging your screen and if you really can’t get a camera angle that you can see yourself with you can keep your camera centered and use that as an orientation point.
This reminds me of another game where they had horseraces and only 1 person could win one of the tokens to get a new mount, there was a lot of complaints folks could never win it except if others were asleep; as soon as they made it a solo timed race it became a guaranteed win yawnfest.

Chance will always be chance and involve luck if you want something specific.
Even with 50% drop chance it’s still possible to not get an item in 100+ attempts. Not very likely but very possible.

You can manually unslot one of your existing bags by making it empty and then dragging it out of the slot it’s in back into your inventory (another bag).
Then you have 1 empty bag slot you can equip the trick or treat 10 slot in.

Anet should block americans/people outside europe to play on our servers to reduce this issue.

It’s pretty naive to think that would work and do the game any good. You noticed the outcry prior to launch when they announced purchasing the game would be region locked and everybody complaining they wouldn’t be able to play when for example traveling for business or when living in NA and working nightshifts so during their gaming hours NA servers are asleep?

Before you say ‘whine whine whine blah blah’ about 24/7 coverage get with the programme, its going to happen, it is happening, you either evolve or fade away. Was really looking forward to the battles this week but been such a let down. Lets hope next week is much much better.

I’ve been very dissapointed as well. I’m from FS and yes we’ve been loosing to servers with night shifts pretty much since launch but I’ve enjoyed epic battles regardless because for me it’s not all about just the points.
Sure it’s nice to win but at the end of the day it’s the actual action that brings the most fun not some stupid figures.
But the only things our players do is whine about it instead of taking action by trying to form alliances with NA players like Deso did.
Furthermore I’m almost getting ashamed of my server with the loud minority here on the forums trash talking but I’m too loyal to it (been playing on it since BWE1) to do a server transfer.
The only reasons I haven’t been on the battle field this week is because I’m PvX player, spent a sizable amount of my gaming time in PvE this week and because apparently the big WvW guilds gave up and spent time crying instead of playing.

Yet Anet says they don’t want GW2 to become a grind. If they would actually play their game without the “dev” abilities they will see everything in it is a grind.

Anet says they don’t require you to grind out specific content in order to be able to play through the content or be competetive (as in gear progression and gear gated content).
They’re not saying that it doesn’t require a lot of time investment to get all the best rewards the game has to offer. Folks use that argument completely out of context and are leaving out info.
It’s up to you if you want to grind or not, I’m not grinding but having fun instead and still get rewarded for it (have full exotics without having run content specifically to acquire them etc.).

Whenever I asked anyone about it everyone would say, “google it.” “Google it” is the sign of VERY POOR GAME DESIGN.

Imo that’s actually a great design that you either have to figure out stuff yourself by listening to NPC conversations or talking to them yourself. There’s too many games out there that tell you exactly where to go and what to do there.
This doesn’t just apply to the halloween event but many things in the game, that you have to go out and explore yourself and get surprised / rewarded for it, good stuff.

As for the book, there’s pretty good pointers, if you talk to the NPC and actually pay attention he tells you about the device and that first usage of it will spawn a ghost to practise with it. That gives you a book with the first clues.
The clues are there.

Utter Failures: Pact Victory Token = Weak Rare Weapons

holska.4127

I don’t think it’s an utter failure. They got nice skins and personally I don’t see it as putting in effort to get it because even if it wouldn’t have any rewards I would still run it just to experience it.
There’s too many people (or are they really skritt?) just focused on rewards and now make it sound as if they only did the story to get rewards and nothing else, not to experience the content. But I’m sure many would’ve run it anyways. Also those with some MMO experience should already know that in a lot of games the rewards for story are among the weakest in game because even if they can be considered an upgrade they get replaced afterwards with dungeon/raid rewards or whatever means available to get the rarer better stuffs.
But I guess some need to always have something to complain, doesn’t matter what you give them if it’s not something better than they already got they’ll qq. They’re unable to appreciate any gifts if it doesn’t live up to their standards.
