I don’t PvE all that much, at least nothing that gives good silver income as I don’t run any dungeons etc. at all.
Still I slowly make money by almost only wvw’ing (after the repair costs and upgrades have been deducted).

Based on the update of 1 hour ago Fort Ranik would have 1420.589 and Dzagonur 1423.274 thus Dz moving up a tier.

how are they in wvw? lots of mixed feedback. I feet that if i were to ever play a ranged class itd be a ranger because they can switch to GS if someone gets close. So just wanted some more feedback outside of just my server.

Don’t want to talk you out of ranger, it has it’s charms but is a bit underpowered imo, even my staff ele doesn’t have problems at all with them when support spec’d and that tells a lot (all though I’ve learned to counter most/all classes, ranger is one of the easiest opponents to meet).
BUT the engineer (depending on spec) has better survivability, versatility and has also options to be played ranged, mid ranged and melee with weapon kit swaps not having any cooldowns in combat.

Please stop crying, insulting, and accusing our opponents of unholy alliances. It is unbecoming of those who have dedicated themselves to battle.

Nightcapping happens; get over it. Cheaters happen too (and not only on DZ); report them and get on with the game. You’re being focused kitten ? Take it like a, well, a man.
Nobody loves you? Small wonder; with this behavior, I don’t love you either.

I would suggest you try harder. Many of you have given up. You can’t win by running away. If, however, you do run away, then please stay away. I don’t want any fair weather warriors at my side, who will desert again as soon as the going gets tough.

Those of you still playing are concentrating solely on what you can cap next. No upgrades, no defensive siege, no mesmer sweeps…. seriously, if I was on one of the other teams, I would kitten you too. I don’t think I could not do it. A lot of the blame for this falls on our commanders. Some of whom scream “Moving out in 10 seconds!” as soon a tower lord falls. Honestly, where did you get your commander Icon? Did you just buy it? Oh wait… Anet scrogged that one up.

I hate to say it to my fellow FS teammates, but shut up and L2P!

I’m still playing and am not concentrating on what I can cap next, I spent almost my whole evening yesterday defending the area of briar and bay and bought upgrades to briar 2x even though it’s an easy to take objective with breakout event. Also when I called it was under attack, a commander and his squad came to help defeat the breakout event even though briar is often considered a “disposable” tower.
Then later when I called again another commander came to help defend as well though unfortunately without success, that npc commander sure has some strong skills and of course the buffs.
And telling us to shut up and l2p, well with that terminology I can only say: put up with it or gtfo even though that isn’t in my usual vocabulary but at least I know you understand it.
The rest of your post has a valid opinion but so are some posts in this thread that are flagged as whining even though it’s just stating an opinion about things observed in game.

atm some guildies from the guild GUM from the FS server are bugging pets on our walls and destroying all defense. They are already reported. Lets see if you are able to get the tower with this kind of playing…

LOL nice try. It’s a targeted skill. What’s next calling my staff ele putting an AoE on top of the wall or my engineer putting supply crate up an exploit?
Just kill it just like you kill the turrets of my supplycrate or chase the owner of the pet out of town because if he’s too far from the targeted area he ordered his/her pet to guard, it will spawn back at the owner’s location.

The tactic of UW is the most logical (they defend their border an attack where they find a weak defense, an our br is very weak now), in my opinion they are playing very cleverly during this week. ^ _ ^

Yup and I’ve also seen far better tactics from Dz this week than last week. Too bad the number of players on our server with broken morale and/or defeationist attitude is so high this week but still lots fun to be had.
I’ve posted strong opinions in this thread as well but I would never give up or stop enjoying good fights.

haha was just kidding and FS & ROF? From the moment we appeared in this tier ROF was weaker than UW.
And FS and Dazgonur first? Nah we didn’t fight UW much last week unless we needed a certain position for our overall map tactic or you attacked us first. This week however is indeed different but you can find clues in this thread as to how comes.

Bring Back Dolyak Farming

Dolyak escorting/killing seems to be often overlooked when commanders choose a strategy.

Depends what the strategy is. Dolyaks / Sentries also can be used to estimate enemy movement and if going for a fast surprise strike it may situationally be wise to not touch them and rather leave them for the next squad passing through to kill them.

Is this the day of necroing threads? Seen at least 3 old threads replied to today. But at least for a change folks used the search function I guess (there’s always a silver lining)

Seeing the older replies in this topic that folks think that it’s better to have bots/farmers doing dolyak farming than real players killing the grub because they at least contribute to the fight; don’t forget that there’s also real players now contributing in bigger real objectives that might just switch back to only doing dolyaks because it’s easier and better reward/time ratio.
Also the grub only takes what 10 mins, so you prefer to have a train of bots on dolyaks over players taking 10 mins. break while they’re in WvW and then return to the objectives stuff?

It’s not about just nightcapping being there but the amount of time the server nightcapping also plays during the day/evening, eg. if you’re able to make up for the point loss.
Take least week, we’ve been reverting the point advantage acquired during the night by Dz every day, if it wasn’t for new year’s eve we would’ve won. We didn’t have any meaningful presence during new year’s eve, our folks only started to slowly wake up and get back into the game around 2pm the next day, not enough time to make up for the huge point gap created.

So u found proof for 2 incidents and ur conclusion is that the whole server cheats … impressive ….. how ignorant u are.

Nothing to argue here but the sad truth is folks will always blame the guild / server / alliance whatever group a member is caught doing something frowned upon or worse breaking the rules.
I’ve had this episode in another game where a fresh recruit ninja looted in a raid by kicking all members, I was the only officer online at the time having to defend and publicly cleanse my guild of all blame and shame in the global chat chanel by standing in the main town and kick the member so everybody could see him become guildless.
So it’s a sad reality we’ll have to live with and all attempts at dragging your guild/server/whatever team through the kitten in the eyes of a lot of gamers should be countered by proof that you’re doing something against it as well.

Now we are almost 100% sure that UW cant take the victory this week (and i guess they do know too) and so we focus on FS, eventhough they already are 3rd. Moreover you guys were constantly flaming and acusing us here what is the best motivation for us to just demoralize you.

Except that the damage had already been done. Most of us got demoralized last week, not this week after the reset. That’s why we’re not out in full force this week, some folks (good players, incl. commanders) are just skipping this week’s wvw altogether or take the time to level an alt.
The flaming only started the day of the reset so has nothing to do with this week, look at when the topic was created, 3 days ago…

Also when you say Dja doesn’t attack UW it is ridiculous. The difference between FS and us is that we actually focus on our borderlands, than on SM.

I know that you won’t have an alliance in the way that you have comms lines with eachother and that things often seem different than they really are but I know for a fact that last week when I played 2 days during the night time / early morning (yes I’m a nolifer who doesn’t mind doing alarm clock events just I’m one of the very very few on our server); we (FS) had a 15-35 point tick and every time we took a tower with breakout event or on EB even a supplycamp that 15+ Dz would show up within a few minutes with heavy siege (I counted 6 cata’s against 3 defenders).
All the while none of the UW held objectives were touched at all and UW was ticking for a steady 100+ points.
So Dz wasn’t going for total map domination which they could’ve easily accomplished, just all objectives held by FS.
This was only a snapshot in time of 2 nights 3-4 hours play session but it was consistently like that during those 2 nights.

The fights would be better though if you could fight with lvl 80 and exo gear. Its sad to see how fast your people die… In a lot of fights it was impossible for me to die (really die not downstate). Everytime i got into downstate i was resurected because your lowlvls died. Thats a really big issue.
This is maybe why you complain about giga Zergs. Your lowlvls are nearly useless in real fights. But in real we are most of the time around 20-40 people. I don’t consider 20-40 people a giga Zerg, I really don’t.

Tell that to your own people. I’ve never had so many scraps of jute from bags in WvW as I had when fighting Dz.
I now have more than 1 stack but can’t even use them for levelling because I’m already master crafter
Please gear up so I get at least some mats from a tier that I can make something useful with.

If you don’t know the ‘phone number’, don’t ‘pick up the phone’. Easy peasy, move along! Nothing to see here!

It’s not a matter of picking up the phone as these enemies will spam you with text messages instead.
The “phonecall” you receive for getting you into a party you can obviously ignore, but that will still provide your name to the enemy.

i think talking to your opponents in wvw is a good thing, helps with duels and stuff like that.

IMO you shouldn’t be duelling in WvW anyways as it contributes nothing to the ongoing battle / your server.

Not bothering reading all the raging at eachother. But what i did want to say is, this matchup is making me enjoy WvW again. I loved it when FS was still active at the beginning and then the server switches started and let’s be honest. FS WvW died. However in this match up i’ve seen so many people getting back to it and actually had some impossible escapes in some fights. It’s been well fun.

And on a side note, I’m totally fangirling BLOS guild. ;3

That already started 2 matchups ago, we had queues again on EB and sometimes EB and FS BL at same time. Also everyone really enjoyed the matchup with UW and RoF. It’s now with this previous and current matchups where Dz chimed in that actually folks are getting frustrated and somewhat raging again which us understandable because we’re currently in about the same situation we were back in t1 against VS, so it’s salt in our wounds so to speak.
If you start enjoying it again with this matchup I can only say I’m sorry you weren’t there the 2 matchups before because that was honoustly one of the most fun matchups we’ve had since launch.
But there’s always a positive, if nothing else at least we’re learning that we’re still not ready to start climbing up tiers again because there we’ll run into these situations more again, I just hope it doesn’t do too much damage to our morale because we were really improving fast as of late and had lots of fun.

We, [ECL], were out there last week every single evening looking for some open field fights. All we found was either solo players who got killed instant, small groups who ran back to the next keep as soon as they saw us or giga zergs (35-60) which we always fought (with like 75% success).

Had fun standing in the open fields while everyone else was actually working on objectives instead of having a picnic in the open?
And yes you had soooo many players on during the evening, the score proved that, you hardly ever got over a 150 tick during normaly daytime / evening last week and if you did it was for a very short time, counted in minutes.

Yes we do use portal bombs and we also know that many players do have culling issues but dont you think that we should have an advantage running into you guys while being outnumbered 1:3? Wether its bug abusing or not, its kitten effective against you cause 50% of your zergs does fall immediatley since they seem to be lvl 2-50 so it actually comes down to you guys stopping us

You’re not the ones to decide if you should have an advantage or not, but A.net. And I’m sure that if they agree with you that what they have in mind to accomplish that certainly isn’t the abusal of bugs on such a large scale as you do (eg almost every single fight because that’s the only tactic you seem to know all the rest is just raw power numbers game).

To add to above poster: those points for dolyaks and sentries are added immediately, not with the points tally. I believe it’s 2 points each?
If you look at the score board for some time, you’ll notice minor point aditions in between the point tallies.

Guys if you’ve ever thought of moving server to somewhere which is competitive 24/7 with no queues at all. Please consider Northern Shiverpeaks (Far Shiverpeak’s sister server).
I’m from Ireland and I actually have a better ping on NSP than on FS. So if you want to escape lag, come to us.

But I’m bringing this up, because few people are actually aware of the easy pickings on an American server when you are European. Especially one like NSP which has a very strong Primetime (USA East coast). Meaning that at midday GMT we roll around the map and Karma train, but in a few hours we have heated battles worthy of any high tier server.

So please, again. Consider us, we have some Oceanic players but still less than our competitors. Please visit our site. www.shiverpeaks.com

I’ve had enough bad experiences connecting to overseas game servers since 1999 and I don’t have a choice for another ISP, the one that has monopoly in my area has crap dodgy routes to NA based game servers.
The most recent experience being LOTRO that had my latency increased from 15-25 to 85-160 and suddenly a lot of package drops which lead to dc’s during raids as a main healer and generally more skil lag and such.

Furthermore I’m loyal to FS, been on this server since the 1st BWE and not even considering leaving my home.

It’s not crying, it’s posting observations about what happened and posting our opinion about it.
In my post for example I started out with that I really liked the matchup but the only thing I didn’t like is that we’re not balanced in when our players are online.
There sure were still nice fights (esp. during the weekend) but not half as epic as they could’ve been if the main WvW population of all servers would be online at the same time.
It’s no accusation either, it’s a very legitimite tactic in a 24/7 fight but not one I really enjoy as it lowers the potential of good epic battles during my personal playtime.

Those that attacked UW were probably random players/groups. I’ve not even once hear any of our commanders call for an attack on aything UW unless we “needed” that position to help in our battle against Dz.
There were even regular shout outs in mapchat to stop attacking you.
And I’ve experienced several fights where you were skirmishing with Dz and the group I ran with ignored you and helped wipe those Dz. Of course after that, you’re the only ones close and you’re still enemies.
It may have seemed different from your perspective but we’ve basically ignored you all week unless you were hitting us.

How can I get my monthlys?

How can I get MY monthly when I do only WvW? They should atleast make alternate options, like keep takes instead of fractal levels or what ever those are, or 5k kills or something…

Goes both ways, althou nowhere near equally. 50 kills…

This has become a gripe for me too since they added fractals to the monthly.
Even though I’m a PvX player, when it’s up to me the only thing I do in PvE is open world content. I was already sick and tired of dungeons / raids in other games after having done that full time for several years. But I want those 10 bottles of karma and that’s the only reason I went into fractals for the 1st time last week.
They should really make separate monthlies for WvW and PvE or indeed alternate objectives, a win win for purists on either side of The Mists portals.

If I see a teammate in a 1v1 I rush in to help him/her.
What’s next, if I count 3 enemies and I come as 4th ally, should I need to step back and wait until the 3v3 has finished?
If you want to duel / 1v1 go sPvP. In WvW, if it’s red it’s dead regardless how many numbers are on each side.

I really enjoyed this matchup, esp. because the matchup is so close and still undecided who’s gonna win. Lots of good fights as well.
But what I don’t like is that since new year, we (FS) are strongest during the day and evening with Dz even having the lowest point tick and then during the night it’s the other way around with DZ not even touching the things UW owns and just fighting us straight back if we take even 1 tower.
I prefer to directly fight instead of playing the game of who has consistently the highest points tick when the other servers have the lowest presence on the maps.
In that sense, the matchup with RoF instead of Dz was better.

and why would you upgrade supply camps ? , except the caravan guard./double delivery , if the camp is protected by players , constant not npc’s

The camps aren’t very often perma protected by players, scouted yes but not like there’s always defense (I’m sure it’s not just on our server because enemy supply camps I take rarely have any player around unless they just came to take supply).
Buying the scouts and guard level upgrades both give an earlier alarm that it’s under attack (scouts) and it buys you time to get there to defend against smaller groups / solo’ers trying to take it (guard level upgrade).
Granted, not always required but I’ve made good use of it several times already.

I mean, it’s not difficult to get 100 badges per day, so we’re talking about what.. 2 weeks ? However, I fail to see the use in PvE, but that’s ok. I don;t need to know that

I didn’t talk about amount of time, just that you say it should only be purchased with badges is to make it available to wvw players only am I right? So yes that’s a proven time investiment in WvW.
Also for me personally it is difficult to get 100 badges per day, that’s what I get each week-end playing 2 full days of 12-16 hours with my class and playstyle. My typical day with a playsession of 3-4 hours nets me 10-20 badges if not doing jp’s.
There’s many uses for it in PvE since it’s essentially GW2’s version of a raid group bar the features. But I guess that’s beyond you powers of imagination.

1. Remove all Commander Tags
2. Make Commander Tags achievable by paying 1000 Badges of Honor

That’d be something… dream Not that it’s difficult to get 1000 badges, but PvE heroes already complain about 500 for the Gift of Battle, so….

Commander tags are also for PvE so you might want to add in there to make separate PvE and WvW commander tags, if the distinction between PvE and WvW, and proven time investment in WvW is that important for you.

Let's Talk About Downed State

Folks only started complaining about the ele vapor form downed ability when it was changed from being unavailable for some time after down (like the engi n03. explode/knockback skill) to being instantly available on down.
Ironically before that the ele’s downed abilities were complained about as being one of the worst ones available in game because the other skills are useless.
So if they change it back to not instantly available everybody is happy again (to read the whining threads about the downed abilities being useless with no interrupt etc. available)?
Offtopic but simmilar ele’s were seen as easy snacks in wvw until the fotm d/d build got posted. That’s how things go, underpowered, getting tweaks and/or players finally finding out how to play the class, fotm, nerfd.

Have to agree with this. If adding more maps or making the current ones bigger folks will only be more scattered making it PvD on many servers unless you go on a quest to find enemies.
Never understood why folks were asking for more or bigger maps, this isn’t sPvP where you need a variety of maps for short matches to keep it interesting. And there are already enough folks new to WvW complaining about the long running distances (adding more WP’s isn’t an option either imo because it will then just become a teleporting game).

Let those new players decide for themselves please?
Opinions differ and for some the way the class feels while playing and its mechanics are more important than being one of the best classes out there for whatever purpose or being the top damaging class.
The engineer is still effective and fun to play imo.
And saying you have to play flawlessly in most cases to beat other classes is just plain wrong as I also spend most my time in WvW, am far from flawless and don’t loose many 1v1’s to any class (incl. thieves and mesmers). Yes it takes longer to kill but isn’t hardly as much effort to get things done as say a staff ele.

No, I’d say close down free transfers to the most highly-populated servers.

Contrast this by giving some kind of reward a month after joining a low population server.

That wouldn’t stop the bandwagoning. Folks will then just pick a server that’s under the max. amount to count as high population and all transfer there at once to still create their super server and disrupt the impacted servers’ population.

1. Close down free transfers.
2. Make it possible to de-activate the commander icon while still being able to start a squad. Or allow for bigger group sizes in WvW than the current 5 but without having a commander title.
3. Implement some sort of lobby (for example with portals to the JPs) with things to do and services appropriate to WvW so on servers with queue’s you can hang out in something WvW’ish instead of camping PvE / in LA until the queue pops. This could be added to Heart of the Mists as a separate area.
Or make some sort of overflow map which is smaller than the “real” ones, without counting for the points tally but with WvW related rewards (siege, badges).

The fights would be a similar length to what they are now, they would also encourage people to use their utilities and learn how to position better. I honestly can’t see a negative to getting rid of the downed state. I think it would improve the game drastically.

The downed states also encourages people to use their utilities and other less used skills and buffs, and teaches them how to position better so they can prevent someone being revived. I personally don’t see how removing it would improve the game as all it does is remove a layer of gameplay that some like and some don’t but are part of the core gameplay.
But anyways I’m tired of discussing this topic in the umptiest thread about it that all ended about 50/50 opponents vs supporters of it.

No it doesn’t it means you are getting a second chance, healing comes from your 6 skill which everyone has.

No 6. healing skill doesn’t come close to dedicated healers in other games where you can just build a few lines of tanks with a group of dedicated healer which makes a keep/tower uncap’able. The downstate still compensates the lack of dedicated healing classes.

The whole idea in GW2 was to get rid of healers, It’s not meant to heal like other healers in other MMOs…It does enough to keep people alive.

If it weren’t there fights would be very short. Like healers in other games which makes the fights last longer, so does the downstate’s aditional healthbar besides adding another layer of gameplay (to avoid using the word tactic).
It’s easy to say the game was advertized to have no healing so there shouldn’t be anything like that. There still has to be some balance and the downstate provides more balance than it breaks if weighed out imo.

No 6. healing skill doesn’t come close to dedicated healers in other games where you can just build a few lines of tanks with a group of dedicated healer which makes a keep/tower uncap’able. The downstate still compensates the lack of dedicated healing classes.

The drop rate shouldn’t be based on your build or class, it should be random with each kill.

It is random with each kill, that’s part of where your problem is, if it has a random chance then the more enemies you kill the bigger the chance so AoE will obviously have an advantage.
But I don’t feel it’s only glass canon that can get a decent amount of badges, I feel I get a decent amount as well on my weird (but effective) mixed spec engi (elixir/condition/crit build with a lot of toughness and vitality so relatively low dps on a class with already low base dps, running with rifle and switching 1 elixir for grenade kit and elite to mortar when fighting a zerg / defending).

The statement that only crap loot drops is a bit exagerated. Yes if there’s a lot of low level enemies about you get crap drops, but they’re also weaker opponents. I’ve also had evenings where lvl 80 exotic and a few rares dropped for me in a playsession of 2 hours.
Of course there’s room for improvement which they also anounced they’re working on.

I don’t think this is very exciting and challenging, but rather annoying that another wave of bandwagoning that destroys server populations that didn’t ask for it would be done.
But hey as long as it’s on the US servers I don’t have a problem with it :P

There’s nothing you can do about the culling and It’s hard to tell how you can help to reduce the different types perceived as lag because that’s very much dependant on your machine, network connection in your house and ISP.
Personally I’m running everything maxed at 120hz refresh rate just fine, but I also get my culling issues (though less than some players report).

There were always some people camping there since launch but obviously that increased because there’s a large chunk of the playerbase that first spent some more time in PvE and / or sPvP than WvW.

I don’t have a problem with the current implementation of the JP as it offers small scale pvp with a lot of terrain to play with to your advantage in an open’ish environment.
But seeing how many folks complain about it, an idea would be to make the JP a completely separate map that doesn’t count towards the WvW population cap but still has a connection to it like the current portals for those that like both. And of course a separate queue.

Or you can do what Vodka said, I think 1000 Badges of Honour would be a less extreme idea though.

For my spec and playstyle it would be around the same. I get on average 1G in WvW per evening, in that same amount of time I make on average 10 badges (sometimes more).
This equals to 100 evenings to get both 100G and 1000 badges.

On topic: You got to earn respect of your server’s community by showing good knowledge of tactics to use, trying out new things without putting things at risk too much. being respectful to others yourself, be open to suggestions etc.

But when I find youtube guides for level 80 farming people are bragging about making 6-7 gold per hour. Is that even worth your time? Is that some kind of joke or do you just not need gold at all in this game?

So your just looking at the amount and then asking if it’s a joke compared to other games?
Not every game has the same level of inflation or worth of its currency. What’s a silver here worth in game and how much time you need to acquire it might be the same as gold or platinum in another game.
In WoW indeed you calculate with thousands of gold, and when I was still playing lotro there were not too many players with over 500G in total on their account and the rarest raid drop sold for around 350G, a few years before that 100G was already considered a huge amount of gold.

Why would you buy a game where the title itself promises pvp if you don’t like it and prefer to play your mmo like a single player game?

Nice theory but I need to correct you that the Guild in Guild Wars doesn’t refer to player guilds but the lore: war among guilds in the human kingdoms

The Guild Wars are the series of at least three wars among different guilds in the three human kingdoms of Ascalon, Kryta, and Orr. The wars ended only because the charr invasion from the north meant an even bigger threat to the three kingdoms.

I think it’s sad folks even consider quitting over something silly as class balance that will most likely be addressed with some future patch.
This is always the case in any mmorpg, you think pvp in other games is more balanced or was at least more balanced at the same time after launch? just lol. Or patches in other games that broke pvp balance in favour of pve or the other way around? (I can draft up a list of imbalances in all other games I played but cba).
We’ll just have to make due with how it currently is and wait for some finetuning to the balance.
Personally I don’t have any problems with thieves as long as the amount of thieves I encounter is the same as the amount of people I’m running with (eg. 1v1 I don’t have issues but obviously 2 thieves against me usually doesn’t go that well and the same applies for teamplay).
