I would say that the ability, in the current way it works, is ok.
Our previous cast time for this skill was too long, but I would concede to a “nerf” of a 3 sec cast time when downed. Also, they really need to bring down the timer till we can cast our number 3 ability. Our downed abilities really need a rework, or at least, a look into realistic time of being able to use these abilities.
I really don’t think it needs a change to cast time or anything. When you’re dead in a zerg, they will finish you just from raw damage in less than 3 seconds…giving vapor form a cast time would be a horrible nerf to our downed state.
All it needs is a change to make it so vapor form can’t go through tower/keep portals…that’s it. No other changes required. This will completely fix the issue and not affect anything else in the game.
In the end I still don’t see this as an issue, many other people I know don’t see this as an issue, and I will still continue to fight its change.
I guess we can only agree to disagree how this skill works.

I don’t die to BS thief.(thought I hate fighting an invis ennemy0
I don’t die to shatter Mesmer.
I surely don’t die to HB warrior. But I die to good player, and have yet to counter Elem D/D. Note that I ddn’t say they were OP, but they for sure got something, since you see them pop like preteen at a Justin Bieber show.
What I get from this is that you know how to counter:
*A BS Thief
*A Shatter Mesmer
*A HB WarriorI have two good friends, one plays a engi, one plays a necro. They have both learned how to counter my attacks through sPvP.
It seems like you may need to practice with a friend.
Also, unless spec’d for it, Ele’s have limited condition cleansing.
I’m not sure everyone talk about the same build here. When back at home I will have to check for it.
But yeah, I practicing with my Elem friend. Tho, I gotta say, it’s a lot harder to counter then a HB warrior (1 dodge/DS) or a BS Thief that are both one trick poney.
But not everyone is willing to do that. Most class don’t have a “to counter me you have to play me” build. I’m sure Ranger would love to do that.
If they ever nerf DD build, they should buff other weapon as much.
What I’m trying to say is D/D doesn’t need another nerf, it already took a major hit the last patch. Just because it is hard for you to counter “x” build, doesn’t mean it’s OP, it just means that it takes a little more skill for you to counter. All builds can to some extent be countered. The best way to counter a D/D Ele is to outplay a D/D Ele. Learn how D/D’s open with their attacks, and you’ll learn how to be a D/D Ele.
I play D/D and staff. I usually outplay and beat other D/D Ele’s I come up against, because it’s easy to copy a build and try to run with it, it’s a lot harder to master a build and know how to use/time every skill to your ability.
And, I found the best way for me to counter a class I don’t know how to fight is to run away. I’ve rarely ever had an issue running XD

Ok i get what Selan is saying. But his tag says PRO and that he is in FA.
We have pro running around in TC as well. Are they also spies that should cause concern? Serious question not a troll? Is this a different PRO?
Ahoy matey!
I believe da PRO ya be referrin ta be da guild Pro Baddies.
They be a good crew, and be not da same as da crew on FA.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Well, when it comes down to it. This is literally one of the worst things we can actually be arguing about on here, and we should really instead be talking about our bugged mechanics and trying to get those fixed before we do anything else.
However, there will be those that come into the Ele forum to QQ because they don’t have such “super awesome” abilities.
The only time vapor form is useful is when defending a keep or running away from a mob to friends, and hoping they can get a rez on you.
The fact is that any competent staff Ele AoE’ing should be able to do it from the walls or on the ground from behind the door. Any competent D/D Ele should know to jump down, earthquake > Mistform, Armor of earth, lightning flash, and switch to water attunement to get rid of any further conditions as needed.
On the occasion someone makes it to that door, I don’t see a problem with vapor form giving them the chance to try and make it through. Guardians that are paying attention can stop them in their tracks.

This is my current WvW staff build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEAQFAGIAIKOxlgCFIQUwiiiZ2B
I currently run with mist form, armor of earth, and lightning flash as my utilities.
The way I run this build is to allow me to have some survivability, while being able to grab might stacks quickly.
I run 2 sets of runes that give me 40% might duration and 20% run speed duration.
Sigil of Battle to grant 3 stacks of might on weapon swaps. I can easily maintain 10-13 stacks consistently during a battle.
I am still looking for ways to improve/evolve my build. I tried pyromancers puissance and didn’t find that it gave me quite the extra might i was looking for, and I prefered to grab the AOE size modifier.
Please let me know what you think.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
You have to use it right. You keep your dodge for vapor form. As soon as you go down, you pop it and dodge 2 time right away. At most, during half a second people will be able to immobilize you, maximum. That’s a really low risk, nearly 0 chance.
I wouldn’t say that low. There has been more times than I can count when several guardians are there casting their chains on me. Even if it’s only for a split second where they can nab me, I still get nabbed quit a bit even when dodging.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
I still think it’s fine the way it is.
It’s really a 50/50 shot to even make it back through the gate. Most zergs beating on the door are ready to immobilize or snare anything coming off the walls.
By down #3, you’re dead, there is no coming back.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Here is the problem with the Ele downstate…it requires no CDs, it requires no skill to use. Literally, all you do is, go out, wreak some havoc, and get downed. And you can repeat this ad infinitum.
The thing is, you can’t repeat this over and over again.
Why? Vapor form does have a cool down, so thinking you can just vapor run in, run back out, get downed, and run back in again more than likely won’t work.
Secondly, you can be immobilized, stunned, and crippled while in vapor form. There should always be people guarding their door, to keep people from coming out and going in. If you do this, you will kill any ele’s or anything else that trys to get in.
Lastly, every time you get downed you loose health. Basically, you have a max of about 3 goes unless you have someone standing there to heal you, which a lot of the times there aren’t. There is usually one person on a cata hitting the door and everyone else is on the walls.
That being said, vapor form is fine as is.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
In order for us to try and help you with your build, we need to know what weapon you plan on using, and what style of play do you like (healing, glass cannon, bunker). Also, is this for just PvE or PvE and WvW.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
I use what I like to call a “tanky” cannon build.
I have a mix of all stats, that synergises well with what I like to do.
I run 20 Fire / 10 Air / 20 Water / 20 Arcane
My build focuses on might stacking, which when runed and sigiled correctly, will grant you a consistent 12 stacks of might easily in a normal battle. Oh, and might last for 30 seconds, which is always nice.
You can go full glass cannon, but expect to pay a lot of repair bills.

Had a blast this evening in our borderlands.
The fight over the supply camp between the yaks’ and TC spawn was insane.
A large group of FA (mostly GODS) and the entire TC zerg were there.
Think we spent 10 minutes on that bridge fighting. Eventually I put a ballista up and we lured TC in range for me to just mow them down.
Yarrr matey, I remember ye puttin dem ballista’s up dun put up a cata as well.
I remember takin dem out with me treb as well, arg arg arg arg.

So after the patch, I am currently looking to drop my D/D for a little while and play around with the staff.
That being said, I would like to here from you WvW’ers what build you use, runes, and stats you look for in armor.
Thank you guys for your help!
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Isnt it funny the D/D guys are so happy and laughing at us staff users?
YOU DID NOT GET NERFED TO HECK.
Bunker D/D Ele’s also use evasive arcana in PvP.
So not just the function in PvE was harmed, but also PvP.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Hey!
3. Yes. Unfortunately, a lot of elementalists run dagger/dagger in wvw which is pretty useless. They might kill effectively but we already have a ton of thieves, warriors, rangers, etc doing killing. Elementalists truly shine with their myriad of AE spells that have 1200 range and the blasting staff trait, which enlarges your AE circles for all staff skills. This ability is absolutely unmatched in terms of siege warfare. I wish we had more on HoD that ran staff, especially now that I"m not playing my ele while I level my alts in wvw >.<
!
I would say this is a bit of a stretch. No matter what weapon one chooses to play, being effective as an ele is all about how one play’s the class. My main weapon set is D/D, but I also run Scepter, Focus, and Staff.
The key is knowing when on needs to switch. Hitting a wall with just daggers alone is ineffective and will more than likely get you killed, this would be the time ti switch to staff, when sieging enemy forts. This is still, however, situational. If the group has plenty of aoe, I find myself just as useful guarding the entrance to a keep, and preventing more enemy players from getting in.
When playing an elementalist, one must be able to think critically, accounting for the group you run with, the strength of the enemy, and what role one needs to do play.
OP:
1. Does it get better at higher levels in regards to not dying as much.
Yes
2. It seems to me that Elementalists are in greater demand for groups in Dungeons at 80. Is this true?
Yes and no, however, the aoe always helps
3. I don’t WvW much but how does this class do in WvW? My ranger gets owned usually.
This class is great, but takes quite a bit of skill to master

Yarrrr mateys, it be a fun week.
Thank ye all for da many battles n’ plunder!

stop saying “grinding” kitten … -.-
this game does not require grind.. the thing you are referring to is CASUAL PLAY.
grinding is commonly used in korean mmo’s that actually require a person to grind several months to acquire a certain type of equipment that differs from the normal one.
so you won’t have to “grind” to get the equipment, but you will have to PLAY the game to get it.p.s.: believe me when i say these things… i’ve been a korean mmo game player for 5 years.
Some people consider GW2 as a grindfest while I have a legendary weapon (Bolt) and Anomaly to complement it 2 months in release (no RMT or gems) with a 60 hour/week job. Tststs
I have the same type of environent, high hour work week, but while I flip things on the AH, I have never been able to make too much, especially enough to make a legendary.
Show me your ways oh wise one.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Would anybody know the recipe for the mystic cudgel?
I know it takes
1 Eldritch scroll
30 mystic coins
and thats all i know. Could someone help me out with the rest? thank you.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Aye mate.
It all depends on one’s build, gear, etc.
With the right build, ele’s are tough as nails.
It’s all in the build.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Anyone else noticed that the OP’s post…disappeared?
Tarnished Coast [TC]
They are situational, but in those situations, it would be overpowered if it had infinite use in a 60s time limit
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Focus is very situational. It’s probably only useful in WvW when you run with a Zerg.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Who is this guy?
Tarnished Coast [TC]
I fight up to 5 mobs all the time with s/d. It’s not hard at all.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
I only WvW on my ele, but I go 20 air, 20 water, 30 arcane D/D. Great damage and survivability
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Currently there aren’t that many known out there. I am currently trying to find more. Message me in game and I may have a skin or two that you may like.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
I feel you bro, I’ve tried swapping ori dagger blades, eco, mystic coins, various lodestones, and nada.
It makes me think there might be a gift or a vial of something involved.
…making it very, very expensive.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
The light WvW helm also covers the shoulders as well.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Does a pile mean a full stack?
Tarnished Coast [TC]
So currently I’m using a build for D/D and S/D that is 30 in air, 10 earth, 30 arcane.
I’m semi glass cannon, with some Tough and Vit.
My current build provides a lot of chase down, while still being able to do a lot of damage.
Please post what works for you.
P.S. I am NOT looking for a bunker build, I get bored too easily going bunker.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
A. What level are you?
B. Do you prefer defending keeps or being down in the brawl?
Staffs are good if you like being on the defensive or have a zerg to hide behind.
Daggers are great if you like to chase people down and do a lot of damage up close. the problem is, you have to have a decent amount of Vitality and Toughness to help you survive. If you don’t have either Vit or Tough, I would suggest starting out with a staff.
Also, scepter/dagger allows you to maintain distance, do a lot of damage, and still be able to get up close if you want.
I usually switch between D/D and S/D
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Fight to survive isn’t the problem.
However, you should not be able to stake someone while they are being healed.
If someone is being healed they should be able to be damaged (like normal), but you should essentially have to fight off their healer.
