well your system is not bad at all. You can stand to overclock that 2700K though, do your research on that bit before you actually do.

What performance are you getting right now? depending on what you want to fix, there are varying options/suggestions.

Can someone please help me identify where my problem is? With the ISP or connection to ANet? I’ve added my details as well. I live in Sri Lanka

Call your ISP and show them the screenshot you linked here. Your 3rd Hop is having 300+ms latency and probably the start of your issues, only they can fix it.

And for the rest of you guys, if you are having issues with SPI and your routers manufacture does not want to supply a fix, take a look over at dd-wrt.com

http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

Enter your router’s Model number and revision number and see if they have a supported firmware version, then use their wiki for upgrade directions. I have never had the black screen issue using their firmware. And they have the option to disable the SPI engine.

-UDP Endpoint Filtering set to Endpoint Independent
-TCP Endpoint Filtering set to Endpoint Independent
-Uncheck the box labeled “Enable SPI”

Did you try each one independently before getting a good result? I can see SPI getting in the way (Due to TCP/UDP timeout settings in their SPI Engine), but the endpoint filtering that should only affect bad known sites. If D-Link isn’t white listing then they need to be made aware of this and supply a firmware update to fix this.

Don’t cry just because you dont know how to PvE on your mesmer. There are encounters that require ‘out of the box’ thinking, which means you need to swap up your play style to over come programmed AI response.

The Bosses in Glints Layer is a perfect example of this. Phantasm/Clone Mesmers fail here due to the Void bugs. To over come this, become a mantra Mesmer and go Direct Damage instead using Traits and such. I did this encounter using Mantras and while it took longer then I would have liked I did not have any survival/killing issues with the bosses here.

You cant stay static in your builds 100% of the time, become more dynamic and get MORE out of your character by changing your play style to match the encounter types. Its not THAT hard to over come.

wow, are you kittening serious? I pretty much have the fastest mesmer kill on that boss if you take the rng part out. Does it cancel out the problem? No.

Pro tip for all the kittens in this thread : doable =/= enjoyable.
Funny enough, I have every latest achievement done in one go on my channel. It was frustrating and unenjoyable and THIS is what I am trying to say since the start.

@ Coulter, thanks that’s off topic so why even bring this up. The fights are doable, they aren’t fun because they cancel out 40% of my abilities. 40%. >>>>40<<<<

yes I am serious. Just cause you don’t like how an encounter is setup (just happens to break certain builds) you whine and moan about it. Its doable, that’s all that matters. just cause its not clean to YOUR build doesn’t mean its not fine the way it is.

And I dont care if you can/can’t kill XYZ mob in ABC seconds, that is not what makes an encounter enjoyable. Its all about the mechanics, and YOU fail horribly at the mechanics since you can’t over come changes from Boss A to Boss B. Static play is what makes games boring and stagnant. I welcome a change up like this.

Yes the boss was not ‘ez mode’, but it wasn’t hard either. Just takes time.

Not everything has to be a rush from start to finish. Get over yourself.

Now, I am having ISP issues at the moment and have posted a tracert to their forum so that they can look into the issue for me. I haven’t a clue what it all means though and I ‘think’ it means that my connection issues are down to my isp. One of the guys in the guild suggested I run pingplotter which I will look into but I will run it in the evening which is when my connection goes to hell. Would anyone have any tips or advice they could add so that I can get back to playing my game a bit quicker, please? I’m hoping that by being a bit more proactive with my isp and not just ranting at them that I can get this fixed a bit quicker.

The issue with Tech Previews are generally driver issues. We wont see proper GPU/System drivers until windows 10 hits RC1. So while its in preview you are getting what is expected, a preview of what Windows10 is bringing to the market, not optimizations and performance enhancements.

If its unacceptable for ya, i suggest rolling back to win8/8.1 or 7 until 10 hits RC.

Ok pretty simple, under Eyefinity (5040×900) If the char quality is set to Low/lowest I get texture glitches, as soon as I set it to Medium they go away. This is on my R9 280x running 14.4v2 drivers.

Running Non-Eyefinity (1600×900) this does not happen. Tested with LOTRO, WoW, and FireFall and the issue does not occur there. Have repaired the gw2.dat file and the issue persists. Not sure if the issue is really on my end at this point.

Installing on 64bit XP

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: ikereid.4637

ikereid.4637

I guess other people running Guild Wars 2 on a 64bit system have a more up-to-date version of Windows.

From a general standpoint, you really should upgrade your system to Windows 7 or newer. Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, meaning you don’t get any new security patches, meaning your computer is (or will be) vulnerable to at least some (automated) exploits. Besides, it might fix your installation problem.

Wish I could. Right now that means buying a new computer, as Win8 won’t run on this one. I could probably get Win7, as that will run on this computer, but that would just be a stopgap measure, one that would just postpone buying a new computer even longer.

the issue is that XP uses C:\docs and settings\username and vista+ uses c:\users\username

and thats why its failing. Do not expect a fix for this as XP is End of life/support and most application suppliers have also pulled support on XP Installs. Its really time to upgrade to 7.

Microsoft dropped support, yes. But unless you have seen an official announcement from NCSoft and ArenaNet that I missed, they haven’t. Besides they list it as a requirement. Most of the companies you see that are pulling support are not listing it even as a requirement. As long as its listed, they really are obligated. Otherwise its false advertising and they could be sued.

Its really time to upgrade to 7.

Sad but true for you, OP. Microsoft discontinued support for XP in early April. An upgrade is certainly in order.

Read my first response on why that is not happening atm.

Ok here is the work around, and thats what it is a work around.

Create the folder C:\users

and inside that create a folder, % username % <- no spaces(Stupid Forum), so that your currently installed username gets populated for the folder name.

now go and find “\??\C:\User\Docume~1\Locals~1\Temp\bin\CoherentUI.exe” under your docs and settings profile, and move it to the correct folder location under the new c:\users\%username%\appdata\localdata\temp\bin\

restart the game and see if that helps. If not, then you are stuck needing a new OS.

Ideally, GW2 should create the Bin folder if its not there (you created it already) and then place coherentUI.exe in there and run it. And since GW2 is looking for c:\users to run CoherentIU.exe from it SHOULD find it.

Also there is a possibility that GW2 sees your OS as simply Windows XP and not Windows XP x64. In which case the CoherentUI.exe file might be the wrong version being installed/copied from the gw2.dat during the games launch. I do not know a way to fix this if this is the case though. Maybe see if a friend has gw2.exe running on a win7 x64 install and grab his temp/bin folder?

Also where did you get your information that MSE is bad, if it’s one of those pay for sertification .Org sites that have popped up lately naturally they are going to say that MSE is the wurst. How long do you think they will stay in business if they gave MSE a good rating.

How about from Microsoft’s Mouth Directly? They recommended 3rd party over MSE starting back in 2013, then recanted and said they stand by their malware products (they didnt mention MSE by name!!). So yea, thats why.

MSE is junk, you should uninstall that and download Avast! Free Instead.

But follow Healix’s directions on restoring the game, either via the MSE UI, or downloading the launcher and placing the very large .dat file in the same folder as the gw2.exe file.

Crash / Screen flicker / Eyefinity

The game has been frequently crashing for me and it seems like it started with the Halloween update. My monitors will go black then they start rapidly flickering between my desktop and a black screen. If I press Ctrl + Alt + Delete I can bring up task manager and see that Gw2.exe is not responding. At this point I can move the mouse but cannot click on anything. My only option is to Ctrl + Alt + Delete and sign out which forces Gw2.exe to end.

I have an eyefinity setup with three monitors in portrait mode 3×1. I think the issue is with eyefinity because I can play the game fine with a single monitor. Eyefinity had previously worked fine and I could play for hours with no crashes.

Other games work fine so I don’t think it’s a hardware issue. I removed and reinstalled my display driver as a troubleshooting step but it made no difference.

Is there anyone else with eyefinity that is experiencing the same thing?

Hey,

I recently got a new desktop.

Intel S1150 Core i7 4790 3.60Ghz Quad Core CPU
ASUS S1150 ATX Z87-EXPERT Motherboard
NVIDIA GTX760 4gb
16gb RAM
Windows 8.1
Running of SSD

Settings:
- All on low apart from Animations, Model Limit and Model Quality which are on high.
- No Shadows.
- No reflections.

My friends comp
Intel S1155 i7 3770 3.4Ghz Quad Core
S1155 AicroATX Motherboard
GTX550 1gb
4g RAM
Windows 7
Running off HDD

Settings:
- ALL ON HIGH.
- Shadows ON..
- Reflections ON..

He gets 30+ FPS more everywhere in game. In zergs, WvW, big PvE events and Spvp.

I am running nothing in the back ground. I literally have only gw2 on the computer at the moment. He normally has LoL, music, TS and so on.

Could someone please enlighten me as to what may be the problem.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

OH I just noticed that you are running windows 8.1 and your buddy is running windows 7.

Yea I saw the EXACT same thing when I was running 8.1, when I moved back to 7 i regained my lost FPS. (and a few other performance gains too. Win8.1 is horrible, just horrible )

This is an OS level issue (could be as simple as transparency issues with the MetroUI, or something else that is held in GPU memory)

CPU hyperthreading optimization in GW2

I’m just curious to see the fps difference between i5 and i7.

There is a decent difference. On my i5-4670K I was getting 80-110FPS when I upgraded to my i7-4790K I was getting 130-160FPS.

This was with performance settings (low CPU settings in game, high GPU settings, non crowded areas).

Both CPUs clocked at 4.2Ghz.

The thing with HT is you will spawn an additional worker thread per physical Core. GW2 primarily uses 1 core for the GPU engine, and will spawn 50+ smaller threads on the other cores. These smaller threads do not hit nearly as hard as the GPU worker thread, so thats where HT comes in. it will load the additional worker threads more evenly across the less used physical cores as the GPU thread starts to hit harder.

You can see this happen in Taskmanager by looking at the performance tab and watching your CPU graphs, per core. I constantly have 1 Core/Thread at 80-90% while the rest float between 12%-40%. If i disable HT, then those 12%-40% cores jump to 40%-60%.

But there is a draw back, GW2’s GPU thread is soo poorly coded, even an i7 will not help above an i5 for crowded areas. Its nice for general play areas, but if you are doing world boss trains, WvW, and the like for 60%+ of your game time, its not worth upgrading from an i5 to an i7.

Well GW2 has had an erratic behavior with settings since ever.

But first, you’re running a z97 cpu in a z87 motherboard. Look for the latest bios from MB for the best compatibility. I also recommend to buy a new h97.

About the game, try turning Model limit and quality to medium or low. These two are the most critical settings and they put a lot of unnecessary stress into the cpu, making it bottlenecking the game.

Beyond that there’s not much more:
- Monitor everything of your pc, hwinfo is a nice tool, to see if everything work properly (temps, ghz, % usage…).
- Try older drivers. I’ve experienced lower fps with newer nvidia drivers. 344.11 is the exception.
- Play with setting one by one, and see which ones affect the most and reduce them as much as you desire. But I thing Model limit and quality will solve most of your problems.

Your wrong about the chipsets. 4*90K cpus are fully supported on the Z87 platforms. Some BIOS’s may need to be updated to reflect the newer CPU micro code, but they are supported and the OP does not need to buy a new motherboard.

I suggest updating your Intel GPU drivers from Intel.com for the HD3000 before playing GW2 on the laptop.

Then once you run GW2, set Reflections and Shadows to Off, Shaders to Low, Post Processing to Off, and Char limit/quality to Low. I would suggest setting Textures and LOD distance to medium, but the rest of the settings shouldn’t really matter.

I would expect 24-28FPS at 1366×768 (as thats what I get on my i7-2630QM when I was testing GW2 on its HD3000) but thats in a low population areas. You’ll get single digit FPS in Zergs/WvW/…ect.

To FPS or not to FPS that is the Question!

ikereid.4637

Ok to start, Please if you have nothing technical to say then dont say it, I don’t want to hear about “Upgrade Your CPU, Its Your CPU, Change Your CPU” OR its your Machine etc etc ITS NOT!

My PC is 3 months old I have a AMD FX-8320 Piledriver, 3.50GHz, 8x Cores and Sapphire Overclocked R9 270X 4GB DDR5, OS and GW2 are on separate Gaming SSD’s.

This PC can run most games on ultra at 70-90 FPS and runs WOW on Ultra at 105 FPS if I let it.

I purchased GW2 two days ago and noticed that not matter what I did i always get 35-40 FPS.

I can set the game graphics to everything LOW or everything HIGH and its always 30-40 FPS.

I have spent up 5 hours over the last few days researching this and it comes down to GW2 being CPU reliant and I have noticed that my CPU is only at 10-20% active when GW2 is running thus the low FPS.

I followed numerous video’s and forums, I have Unparked CPU’s ( only 2 were parked of 8 ) etc etc and I have been setting gw2.exe to Realtime CPU priority (even though nothing is running as CPU is at 90% idel) and turned off a few graphical settings and managed to get FPS 35-42 BUT come on . . . NOW here is a twist….

After All this and this has only happened once and was last night I had a good run for 30 minutes, I was in the same area, no where new, the same place i was getting 30-40 FPS but I noticed that the game had started running smoothly and noticed it was now using 40%+ CPU and I started to get 60-85 FPS… So i decided to restart the game to test to make sure this wasn’t an anomaly… Sadly it was and I cannot replicate it.

BUT there is your proof that My PC can handle High to Ultra settings in GW2 with Shadows on high and reflections on max and get 60+ FPS

BUT because of the game design it has issues with my CPU, this is Age of Conan all over again but that was with ATI cards.

SO anyone have any ideas? When will this be fixed? What can I do?

We shouldn’t be expected to fork-out another $4-600 for a i7 and new motherboard as this PC is well capable of running all games on ultra. I am starting to think i should demand a refund as its not playable at the moment and according to all forums I read this has been ongoing since release in 2012. SO clearly no fix coming soon?

All this Hype and recommendations form people to play put GW2 at 5 Stars with me but now that I am in…… clouds are covering these starts fast,

And for the grumpy readers defending this game I am not QQ or what ever this is, all the forum posts i read are 2012 or 2013 or very early 2014 so I am hoping someone out there as had luck with optimization with AMD CPU’s or some sort of background fix. Or perhaps I have missed a post from the GW team.

The biggest issue IS going to be your CPU. AMD CPU’s are rather weak in the single threading department, and you should not be expecting more then 60FPS in this game with pretty much any AMD cpu unless you start to sacrifice on ingame options.

That being said, getting 35-40FPS with ANY setting tells me that its probably a Link issue with your GPU. I suggest downloading GPU-Z and verify that your GPU is linked at 16x and not 1×.

your laptop should be in the low 70’s to mid 80’s for the temps.

You need to clean the machine out with a nice can of air, if that doesnt fix the issue then you need to take the laptop apart and replace the thermal paste under your heatsinks.

i7 4790s is also going to be a problem, get a i7-4790 (NON-S) or i7-4790K (Over clockable), as the Clock rate on both are higher then the S variant.

I already tried that, but the performance is still the same. One thing I noticed is that in GPU-Z it is barely using any of the memory on the card.

This is a screenshot of GPU-Z while I was standing in Lion’s Arch. Shouldn’t the GPU be using more than 200MB of its 2GB of memory?

And shouldn’t the Core Clock be much higher?

Here is your problem, your 635 is only running at 230Mhz, as opposed to the normal 590Mhz.

Download MSI Afterburner and adjust the power setting to +5 and see if that helps. If it does, then your GPU is stuck in a low power state and needs to be taken out of it. Not sure how to do that with Nvidia GPUs, though.

It kinda sounds like you have the GPU’s ID’s backwards.

19-24FPS sounds normal for a HD4000
40-45FPS sounds normal for a GT 635M

So I would make sure you are actually choosing the correct GPUs, you can use GPU-Z and its sensor tab to verify which GPU is being used when you select them.

3. Client side to Server side timing settings. I see my game client get out of sync ALL the time. And when it does it lags horrendously. It takes about 60 seconds to auto correct and my client goes from 7 FPS up to 32FPS. I think this comes down to the number of players and their actions being calculated in my game client and causing lag.

Thanks for the reply.

Can you describe “I see my game client get out of sync”? And what do you mean by “lag”? Do you see your playing snapping around or are other players not getting updated appropriately? Or does the game just run slower?

My Example will be when you are fighting the Champ at Maw. He becomes attackable and the FPS drops down to 7FPS, and characters start to dissapear/appear randomly, poping in and out of basic character modles and the normal ones. (Mind you I run on Medium for Char limit and quality, else I crash with OOM).

As all the players merge in on the Champ, FPS remain between 7-9FPS. And after 60seconds, Boom 32FP, and it remains between 24-32FPS for the remainder of the battle (I would say the Boss is at 80% HP around this time). But the FPS jump ONLY happens after the players around me stop moving for 1-3 seconds and completely disappear and come back.

This happens during the Elemental phase during Modniir, and for the first few seconds that FE pops up (I think its when the little fire storms pop).

Seems to me the common deliminator are the Fog effects, or something around there, as with Modniir when the ele hands go away the FPS goes back to 32FPS almost instantly. MAW, the FOG is still there but it doesn’t seem as ‘full’ as before the ‘pause’.

I should also add that my FPS stayed just about the same the entire time I used 4K yesterday. When I turned down my R9 290Xs into a lower running speed because the game didn’t need it, that’s when I noticed very slight frame loss. Other than I think I actually got a bit more frames per second because the game was being focused on one entire monitor instead of three. Just more pixel density. That’s what I experienced anyway, I didn’t do a comparison but it felt much smoother.

Makes sense, since Eyefinity forces the GPU to rendor 1 resolution over many outputs. Puts extra work on the GPU to break the display up and send it out to the correct head on the GPU.

But i wonder if its really a break even at 4k vs a res at eyefinity. I run 5040×900 right now, I wonder if dropping from 5k down to 4k and the 900 up to 2.5k would yield close to the same FPS with needing to buy a new GPU.

The GPU doesnt care how the resolution is being setup, but it might care about how it outputs the images to the different displays.

However, I am waiting for the 120hz 4k panels to come out. Even if I can only link at 60hz right now, I need to be able to move up to 120hz when the GPU’s are available with support for it.

We’ve been taking this performance issue very seriously and have spent the last few weeks trying to isolate the various causes you guys are experiencing.

Performance is very tricky because there are so many variables as to why the game could be running poorly, especially if it used to run fine. It hasn’t been affecting everybody and some of the folks experiencing issues have found them to be due to outside forces such as poor hardware cooling. We know this is a real issue from the things you guys have posted here and have been trying to find the root of the problem. Simply put, it’s been taking time to identify what the issues could be and trying to reproduce them in-house has proven quite elusive.

We’ve identified a number of serious issues some of which were introduced into the 9/9 build and have code changes on the way to address them. We don’t expect it to fix everyone’s performance problems but we certainly hope it will help the majority of you on this thread. I will follow up when the code changes go live and hope that you guys will report back as to whether they are making a difference or not.

I want to give props to you guys for helping each other out and providing helpful insight into this problem. I know it can be really frustrating, it is for us too so please bear with us. We sincerely want to make your playing experience the best we can.

Hey guys, I would appreciate it if you read the thread before commenting.

Unfortunately, my original post(above) was through my user account and not my work account so it doesn’t have the visibility it should. Please read it if you haven’t.

We are actively looking into performance issues and I have been providing updates on this thread regularly over the past couple weeks.

There seems to be some confusion about what our “fix” was. Disabling “High-Res Character Textures” was NOT it but did come in the same patch. The “fix” is not something expected to actually fix every bodies issues but rather address what many posters have been experiencing. That said, some of you have already reported back saying that it has helped and some of you have said it hasn’t made a difference.

We’ve continued looking into this issue beyond the latest changes and in doing so have found an audio issue that can affect the global performance of the game under certain conditions. This is where I asked that you try “-nosound” to see if it makes a difference and report back if it did. This was never a suggestion to actually fix your issue. Some players did this and reported a huge performance improvement and we can now justify shipping the code changes we’ve made in response. This is GOOD! This you all helping us help you.

3 large performance issues that need player side tweaking settings.

1. Mini-Pet display options (All, Party, Self)
2. Fog Element changes (High, Medium, Low) – Maw, modniir, Fire-ele all suffer from this, Ice storms and certain weather causes this too. Even affects my 4790K and 280x system by 20-25FPS of the top.
3. Client side to Server side timing settings. I see my game client get out of sync ALL the time. And when it does it lags horrendously. Just wanted to add that it is normal for gpu-z to show the card(s) at 1x link when there is no gpu load. To check link speed correctly you have to load the gpu a bit. You can do this within gpu-z by hitting the (?) button and running the 3d window

Thats incorrect, its normal for GPU-Z to show 8x/16x at version 1.1 specs when there is no load.

When the card is under load, it will show 8x/16x at version 2.0 or version 3.0.

I’ve been running on 3840×2160 about a year, and have had no problems @4K. That being said, 4K performance is wildly dependant on your rig. The difference between standard 1920×1080 and 3840×2160 is significant, and even with the beastly right I am currently running, I rarely hold 60 FPS during large WvW fights. My suggestion, don’t go 4K unless your rig can handle it, you aren’t going to be able to appreciate the difference in resolution if your framerate drops.

As far as the game supporting 4K, it does and looks fantastic (however the interface could probably use some scaling work on higher resolutions). I’ll look into it, but I wouldn’t expect anything soon as 4K isn’t exactly mainstream.

I am interested in what FPS you are getting when you are doing WvW at 4k :-)

I can tell you what the community gets, but who knows…maybe you are on some beta client that has a lot performance tweaks (CLI params we dont have access to)

I connected my 4K monitor a couple hours ago and put my 4770K to 4.1 GHz and left my graphics cards running at optimal settings and aside from the absolutely gorgeous image quality, I think the game could use a larger option for UI beyond Large.

What GPU setup are you running now and what performance are you getting at 4k, also 60hz with vsync or 30hz with out vsync?

4k is my next upgrade :-)

The G3258 is better than whatever i3 due to it’s unlock clock nature. In practical terms, all that HT gets you can be achieved with a slight overclock. And since that’s the difference between the G3258 and an i3-4xxx CPU, when discussing gaming, the G3258 is more than adequate. That said a true quad core i5 “is leagues higher” but so is the price as we are talking about going from $70 USD for a G3258 to $188 for a i5-4460 (same 3.2GHz clock speed).

An $55 G3258 :-)

For $55 bucks you cannot spend your money better, when compared to ANY AMD cpu right now (as of 10/24/2014), that G3258 is going to get 2x’s to 2.5x’s the performance for GW2 over ANY AMD cpu, Period.

Download GPU-Z and make sure your GPU is running at PCIE16x and not 1×.

its the configuration .dat file under your user directory. Delete that and it will let you select the high texture settings again (it happened to me last night and I’m on win8.1 x64 ATM.)
