You guys are seriously still whining? The answer Jon Peters gave is a legitimate answer.

Its an answer, it demonstrates that their aims are legitimate. It doesn’t answer the issues that people have raised over the last couple of weeks however, namely:
1. the solution does nothing to stop botters despite it being their aim and does appear to affect legitimate farmers. It seems to be a brute force approach to an issue that actually requires more delicacy.
2. The complete lack of transparency from anet over this and other issues.
3. The lack of testing before releasing.

3 aggravates me to no end.

Ok for starters people have reason to be upset, there are no “bigger fish” to fry since this DR implemented as a means to combot the bot issue in the game, and as a result they screwed up the regular experience of the average player as well. As such they could easily disable the DR but they choose not to for fear of the effects of the economy. It wouldn’t take WEEKS or MONTHS, its a simple matter of adjusting the games code and completely deleted the DR system from the game or reseting it back to the pre-patch.

The recent patches have shown that Arenanet has no concept of getting their priorities straight. Look at the necromancer patch updates. With a class so broken with bugs and what not at the moment, part of their ‘fixes’ for the class involves questionable ‘balance’ updates, to skills that weren’t even close to groundbreaking or heavily affecting the PvP experience. Hey Jon, I’d take a working Plague Signet over a Blood is Power change any day of the week, even if you add 100 might to the skill.

“A few weeks” There isn’t much of an end game … “a few weeks” will be all it takes to drive players away for good. Lower server load = fewer servers = win for NcSoft?

“A safety net for when we cannot be there” … and why pray tell can you NOT be there? I have reported at least 100 unique bots in the process of leveling 3 toons to level 80 … most are still running their waypoints.

The bots are not even remotely difficult to spot and you KNOW IT. If so inclined and actually concerned you could pay a low level tech for a week to server bounce and ban them. They run in clusters for God’s sakes, this isn’t rocket science.

Bots aren’t the inspiration for the DR .. we the player base happen to be the target. DR on Karma and Exp says it all and only the most blinded fanboi doesn’t see that. No oops, no fine tuning issue … they are looking for the thresh hold for when server populations slow on decline over it. Then welcome to the in game store!!!

I have been supporting your products since your company came into being. This isn’t the first time you attacked your player-base to try to fix a perceived problem … original 55 monk ring any bells?

I feel like I found out a friend was ripping me off intentionally.

I’d gladly work for free as a bot zapper.

My opinions of Karma and Crafting.

in Crafting

Preface: this has nothing to do with DR

I feel like Karma in its current state has turned into a niche currency for a niche set of products; not useful for everyone, and definitely not the ‘reward for heroic deeds’ it was set out to be. Here are my opinions why. I also encourage others to dispute my points if need be.

- Not everyone is a chef
- Not everyone wants a legendary weapon, or armor of the six gods.
- Once you hit level 80, lower level karma equipment will have close to no use.

I think the services of master craftsmen should be split across the world to various Karma merchants. What happens is that you create a dichotomy where coin and karma can allow a player to obtain the same goods, but in varying levels of convenience.

Cost vs Convenience.

Coin allows players to purchase all their crafting needs conveniently next to their craft stations.

Karma should allow the same items to be purchased, however, these goods are split up across Tyria. e.g. A renown heart quest involving miners should allow players to obtain lumps of coal for karma from the NPC. This works very well in conjunction with the waypoint travel system. It will benefit players that are in the area, and players that constantly use the waypoints won’t save much money.

This system can be further enhanced by perhaps adding a limit for each player on the amount of items they can purchase at a karma merchant. e.g. 2 master salvage kits every 24 hrs. Karma merchants dwelling closer to major cities can sell the same item for higher karma to balance out the waypoint costs.

I think Arenanet has this in effect to some extent, with the gathering tools being spread out amongst different karma merchants, but I feel as though it doesn’t benefit a great deal of players.

Retaliation is very misleading. Wrong in fact. It is based on power and not condition damage.

I know that, but I still count it.

You’re misleading Noctis. If he was now going to stack condition damage gear, in hopes of making a retaliation guardian, he’d be very confused as to why it isn’t working.

I even said in my first post that it’s technically not a condition, but by my own personal definition, I myself consider it a condition. If that’s misleading, I don’t know the definition.

If your definition is different to the actual definition that is accepted by everyone, and in matters of such technicality, one would hope you don’t include it. Its like saying ‘I think apples are animals, I know they aren’t but I consider them animals anyways’.

It serves no purpose to his understanding of what deals condition damage. Yes, I can agree that the outcome can be similar, but gameplay wise, it is likely to mislead someone.

From your post, he may think that: “Retaliation is a boon, yet it deals damage based on condition damage”. Which would be wrong. YOU of course, know that it doesn’t but it is likely he would not.

Does heavy armor look lazy to you?

I quite medium armor actually. Maybe not so the helms, but the armor sets themselves are detailed and varied. They might not be completely aesthetically pleasing, but that doesn’t subtract from the detail put into them.

Heavy armor on the other hand, looks pretty much the same for several sets. Squint a little and they’ll definitely look the same lol.

I actually think the Heavy armor is the best-looking armor class in the game. As far as the worn armors go, they do in fact have slightly different meshes than their regular counterparts as well as the color differences. On top of that, the dye areas are different as well if I remember correctly.

My main’s currently rocking a mix of Arah legs/boots/gloves, Cursed Shore chest/helm, and Vigil shoulderpads skin-wise, in midnight fuschia and blood. I look like a humanoid GW1 Jade Armor.

hmm, I haven’t actually considered the dye areas been different. Will give it another look I guess, but you won’t find me dead in scale/chain/chainmail.

So... Karma... what to do with it?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: kKagari.6804

kKagari.6804

There are many uses for karma

*Cooking materials
*Legendary crafting materials (Estimated you may need around 2.1 million Karma)
*Weapons
*Armor

Some of the armors are very nifty looking and good for transmuting. Players who are struggling in making gold to buy salvage kits and etc. There are some starter guides out there for making gold. They aren’t phenomenal but they will definitely make sure you don’t have to worry about buying salvage kits again.

Cooking materials: Contextually useless. You only get 2 crafts remember, not everyone wants to change to cooking every now and then.
Legendary materials: Only useful for a select group who want Legendary Items. The requirements for getting a Legendary is monstrous, and not everyone wants to do it.

Weapons and Armor: Only useful once really. You won’t be going back to Queensdale to pick up a karma item from someone there will you? Even if you get the 42k karma ones, you’ll likely only get it once.

Arenanet removed the one TRUE good reason to have karma. Karma is an infinite resource, it only makes sense they let us spend it on a product with non-infinite usage.

Here is an example. Necromancers at release had a trait that didn’t work. Greater Marks. The staff for the necromancer has 4 mark abilities. Yet only 2 of them were properly affected by Greater Marks. Why? This goes beyond ‘encountering a bug that is unforseen’. It feels more like the development team designed an ability and made no attempt to follow up to ensure it worked at its most basic level.

As a necro I’m not going to thank them for this reason.

As a software engineer I’m not going to thank them for having 100+ bugs at launch for a single class and them not being aware of it. I’d be fired for that gross oversight.

Incompetence shouldn’t be thanked.

Huge thanks to the people at Trion. I didn’t give you any feedback at Rift’s launch and this thread has spurned me into doing so belatedly. Also thanks to the guy who made my lunch today. It was well made and reasonably tasty.

I’d be less annoyed if the bugs were hidden under a few layers of circumstances:
i.e. Putrid Explosion
(NB0024) If used to activate the Ethereal combo field (gain Chaos Armor), there is a consistent 2-3 second delay before you get the buffs.

But issues like Plague Signet, Greater Marks, feels like they didn’t even test if the BASIC functionality of the ability is working. How can you tell us that you’ll release a game, when its ready, when there are things like this that just look unfinished.

For those who don’t know, Plague Signet removes conditions from allies and transfers it to the player. Since launch, this has not functioned as stated, it in fact only copies the conditions from allies and applies it on the player.

Per (hopefully) bolded section: Surely you jest, sir.

Elaborate.

Well, aside from the verification issue, the driver issue, and the fact that the updater wouldn’t patch?

My burned up graphics card would like a word with your ‘perfect’ SC2.

I never said SC2 was perfect. The graphics card issue was bad, but at least we could fix it by changing a txt file. GW2 has had various graphics related bugs also, the latest of which; the nude glitch. Originally many players reported flashing blue artefacts on screen too; they SEEM to have disappeared (for me anyways) but its something that was there at release. Theres still some strange chipmunk sound issue. This forum is currently plagued with people with account verification issues, so we have that too here. I don’t recall the 3 races in SC2 at launch having 100+ bugs and glitches. We have possibly over 200 for the 8 classes combined. These aren’t even BALANCE issues, they are BUGS.

Off the top of my head, I can think of banelings unborrowing to cloaked banshees. I can think of a lot more for GW2 though.

Well kitten Controlling a way a player plays is a no-no. If a player wants to slow down, he/she can by himself.

I hope you actually watched the video, because I think the name of it is very misleading. Its less about slowing down and more about events that you trigger, and can follow through with.

what i don’t understand is why if they were hurting for life force why not just use spectral grasp and pick up the extra trait for more life force gain on use…it shares the same cd as blood is power. they buffed both moves. you can call it a nerf if you want, but by that logic you could also say all horses are alien beings from mars. Doesn’t mean you would be right about that either. If you needed the 20% life force gain for more survival it probably fell down to poor choice on utility skills…spectral armor covers that problem completly

Gluttony isn’t working properly at the moment, Spectral Grasp is absurdly unreliable.

How is Gluttony meant to work? 5% more of your whole Life Force bar per Life Force gaining attack? So 3% gained becomes 8%? That seems very overpowered, especially for a 5 pt trait. I always assumed it was 5% more of what you already do, but ofcourse that value is too low to do anything.

There’s also Plague Signet I just remembered. The whole support element of it means nothing when it doesn’t actually remove anything from allies. Very poor.

You know, the thing is Plague Signet is slightly more excusable than Greater Marks. It seems there are more parameters the programmers have to account for in regards to Plague Signet. Greater Marks on the other hand, the fact that this skill is broken just shows they did not even do the most rudimentary levels of testing; or worse, they did test it and didn’t fix it.

What innovation does Guild Wars 2 bring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kKagari.6804

kKagari.6804

Dynamic (regular) Events were done in Rift on Day 1 – well before GW2.

Actually, when I think about it, even WoW had dynamic events. I remember right before Cataclysm, elementals would invade the city and everyone would work together to defeat them (although it was really the level 80s doing the work, since the elementals were to difficult for anyone below to actually contribute anything).

I also remember people being especially annoyed by the fact that the Auction House, Vendors, etc., would be unavailable until all the elementals were destroyed, but that’s besides the point.

Elemental invasions and rifts are NOT dynamic events. Dynamic events are something that actually chain. They start in one area and chain to a completely different one while sometimes telling a story about an item or area. If people actually paid attention and followed an event chain then they would know that that is what Dynamic events are not just activities that pop up every once in a while.

This shows what I’m talking about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTF9T4oQ480&feature=plcp

I really like this video. I ‘noticed’ these event chains in its entirety about a week ago. Now maybe I am just slow, but some part of me thinks that in a world busy with so much activity that Arenanet has designed, they could have made these events feel more cohesive, and compel the player to stay and see them through instead of heading away to do the next thing on the map.

Some part of me just wishes we don’t have minimaps at all.

Add a system that’s good at detecting continuous identical patterns in character behavior or warping locations. The offending player could be frozen to the floor until a GM took a look at them because they were alerted to the offending players activity based off of continuous co ordinate based paths impossible to replicate by a human hand.

Not sure this will work. Bots could easily add a RNG based key-press at every interval of key-presses.

i can’t find anything in the patch notes telling us how the DR system is currently working. I wish there was more transparency. Once again we’re left to fumble about in the dark.

1. is there a penalty for speed runs, and how long is the penalty
2. how is DR shared across characters
3. is the daily reset still at 8pm est or 5pm server time.

amongst all the ncsoft games i’ve played, this game has the least transparency about how things are suppose to work.

There’s a certain amount off contradiction in Mr Peter’s words. If this systemit’s really a safety net for exploiters, why can’t they tell us how it works?Even if the exploiters found out, being a time system they have no way circumvent the system short of rewriting the timer. Which brings me to the conclusion that Mr Peter’s himself had no confidence in the system working as intended.

If DR was for stopping boots why curb the karma at all? It’s not like the boots can ruin the economy with surplus of karma.

There is one simple solution to boting – open world PvP.
Give it, and i gather my whole guild to terminate them…

Some gamer has discovered a trick where you drop Fireworks in front of them, and their script will cause them to pick it up, and die whilst firing fireworks continuously.

Sounds like we’ve already reached the last phase of your story. Forum morale doesn’t seem very high at the moment.

At launch I’d give it an 8 (amongst the better games of my collection). With recent events I’d give it a 6 (subpar and lacks polish).

=/ So repeated runs are penalized into the 15→8→2 too? Even if they are slow?

Does this sound fun to you Mr. Peters?

(venting)but again nothing to help minionmancers.. Even though mesmers got their illusions a upgrade. (/venting)

You got the shadow fiend blind change. Turned a useless ability into a marginal one

Not really. Still a 2 sec cast to make your minion use an instant. Still can’t be used as a blind.

I want to see a passive life force generation while out of combat. That would fix the problem.

Haha, I’d love to see a ‘charging up’ button. Funnily enough it’d add some depth in a very soul calibur kind of way.

I thought it was (not speedrunning):

Character A Runs Path 1 of Dungeon X = 60 Tokens
Character A Runs Path 2 of Dungeon X = 60 Tokens
Character B Runs Path 1 of Dungeon X = 20 Tokens
Character C Runs Path 1 of Dungeon X = 20 Tokens
Character C Runs Path 1 of Dungeon X = 20 Tokens

DE Gameplay Issues Compilation Topic

in Dynamic Events

kKagari.6804

Compiling a list of DE’s with gameplay (not technical) issues, hopefully with the help of the community, so that they might get aided in future. I’d like to be as concise as possible; listing out the exact issue with the event. This might serve the developers more of a purpose rather than general sweeping statements. Hopefully this topic can be expanded to be of ‘sticky’ importance.

Queensdale
Drive the bandits from Curtis’s ranch
Bandits approaching from the north appear to be pathed to head straight to the ranch before attacking any player. This causes them to run for at least 10 seconds or so under player attack before posing any threat at all. Event becomes extremely challenge-free.

Diessa Plateau
Retrieve the stolen mining equipment
Iron Legion NPCs will also take part in this event however they do not contribute to the actual progress bar. The problem is that; if an NPC aids you in defeating an enemy that drops a sledgehammer, they are scripted to take the sledgehammer, before a player can pick up said sledgehammer to turn in. Feels as though the NPCs are hindering the player’s progress.

Well I think 20 SR is mandatory for any PvP build as Last Gasp is too good to pass up, you might as well grab Soul Marks or Mark of Revival since you’re already 15 pts in.

And how effective both Armor and Walk are at collecting LF IS related to the damage you take. Armor gives you a bit more leeway with protection, but walk does not. Both cancel should you change forms for balance reasons should you come under focus fire. I’ve killed Necros by forcing them into Shroud right away after SA popped just by using Ambush trap(the thief pulls) + spreading venoms. Instead of using fast small hits, go for larger ones and suddenly they aren’t getting much LF out of it and need to switch forms fast or die.

Yes, I’m aware contextually that may happen. Which also means, it may not. Its not reliable to discuss that ‘spectral’ effects only ever seem to happen at the worst of times.

AFAIK (and tested) you CANT skip jumping puzzles. I tried it in the WvW jumping puzzle platforms. Seems like you can’t teleport over a gap that you must physically jump over.
