Thanks. It’s good to know pets don’t mess up this achievement… I guess i’ll try my luck and pray not getting hit by the invisible beams
I can also attest to the existence of the invisible “beam” attacks the hologram seems to be applying at random occasions. Really frustrating because I don;t know if those are the reason I keep failing the achievement
Two side questions: 1) does ranger’s pet getting hit by the lasers causes the achievement to fail? and 2) do attacks from 3 smaller holograms, and later the ultraviolet hologram count as being hit?
I’ve been following the statements put out by KDB Daewoo Securities for some time now, and they’re generally informative and accurate regarding the South Korea-based NCSoft’s plans. I say “generally” because one from early 2013 said that there would be a Guild Wars 2 expansion in the second half of 2013, and we can see how that prediction turned out.
I really wanted to like dungeons. I still do. My most memorable times in dungeons were the time where stacking behind a pillar was not the meta against spider queen in AC. I think Fractals were suppose to be “Dungeons 2.0”, but the gear grind on agony infusion really put me off… and I heard there’s other problems, which prompt the CDI thread.
We need more diversity in dungeons. Instant death is just as unfun as melee stacking and speed runs being the meta.
It’s pretty funny that people are still not getting use to this.
4 letters: HTFU. People who refuse to get better are part of the intended demographics of this game, like you and I and a wide range of players.
A modern museum of insanity.
I dare ArenaNet make a poll for every player to rate the first “season” of Living Story, the anticipation of the next season, and publish the result.
The Knights event was left in a very sorry state over a weekend where one would expect more players to log in and play. I think ANet owes us an explanation on what went wrong and how they can improve so kittens like this doesn’t happen again.

As someone already said. The issue with not able to complete this achievement isn’t about zerging, it’s about the achievement itself was badly designed.
To me, Escape from LA was a better LS chapter. It was zergy, but not a lot of insanity-inducing bugs and patches-that-fix-one-thing-and-breaks-two-more.
I apologize for not reading through the entire thing… but I am curious, is there any direct or indirect reference to the White Mantle other than “they’ve been in the jungle” and the fact that we are getting a jungle Elder Dragon?
I’m sorry, but I’ve read most of the threads, but I haven’t seen any worthy of a Dev response. Wanting something isn’t the same as deserving something. Just because you post a thread doesn’t warrant the time or energy necessary to write a response. Considering that every Overflow I’ve been on continues to do the event every hour and completes it without incident, I’d say the handful of Event bashing threads don’t amount to much.
Can they do things better in the future? Yes. Would it be nice if they took notes on the problems people had and worked to alleviate some of those issues in the future? Yes. Does any of that require a Dev to actually post something to confirm it? No, not even slightly.
Your ignorance on how lower population server is faring on the Knights event is not helping your argument. I’m not sure why you devalue actual, constructive, and popular feedback while worship the devs’ “time and resource” as something sacred. Yes, there are a lot of threads basically just reiterating the same topic. Not all of them need a developer response. But do consider that so many threads exist partly because of the lack of dev response. You know why the CDI threads look so much more constructive than this forum? Because at least people were guaranteed that their feedback is at least being listened to, and actual developers are there to help guide the discussion.
Anyway, if your idea is to design a LS chapter that has a component only half of the total servers can get through, then I very much hope you aren’t being hired by ANet.
It doesn’t look like ANet takes suggestions seriously from topics that they hasn’t specifically ask (like the CDI). Sometimes some devs will post meaningless phrases like “yes we looking at threads, just not responding.” But don’t let that stop you from complaining making constructive feedback, because the game will not improve if the devs think people are happy with it.
I will point this out about the Knights, a mechanic which I don’t believe anyone has made note of before. Knights do not reflect conditions 1:1 to the players. That is to say, if you “apply” 5s of Poison to a buffed Knight, you don’t receive 5s of Poison yourself. I’ve been trying to figure out exactly what does happen, and it’s possible that the conditions just get reflected around randomly (like your Poison goes to some other player while you get someone else’ Weakness), but I actually think what happens is that you get several seconds of a random condition each time you apply a condition. So like if you apply three stacks of Bleed, you might instead end up with one stack of Poison, one of Cripple, and one of Chill or something.
I just know that my character tends to apply various conditions regardless of which attacks I use, so I just have to put up with that if I want to deal any damage at all, but I tend to pick up conditions that I don’t actually generate.
If you hover on the condition you’ll be able to see the source player name, so it shouldn’t be random. It looks like if your attack causes a condition, the boss randomly transfer a condition from the pool of conditions that all players are currently applying (but not seeing).
I noticed this since I’m getting confusion status… bleed/burn/poison I can understand… but confusion… really? I am suspecting that people are feeling trolly.
Servers that can get to fight Hologram?

On overflow, i heard getting in an overflow while guesting in a high traffic server can still be a better choice than host server’s LA instance. Anyway thank you everyone for the input.
because of the excessive whining they decided to change them. there’s no real point in trying to take down/help take down another knight if there are no extra loot involved so the majority of people stick to one and let the event fail. there are those few servers that do indeed try to succeed and fail/win so they can try to beat scarlet’s holo and get the rng chest, though that’s all.
This is ridiculous. Please point out which dev post states that to back up your claim. Yes there was one thread titled “Knights drop too much loot” and some people complain about it. But it’s only a minority even on this forum, and there are many more popular threads that demand more reasonable changes that if “excessive whining” compels devs to make hotfix patches then there is no way it got us into the current crappy situation (read: can’t get to hologram).

I have been refusing to believe that guesting is required to get the most enjoyment out of Living Story events. I was wrong, and I’m asking players from servers that have a constant, good rate of winning the Knights event to drop a hint on which server I should guest to.
Thank you very much ArenaNet for the Living Bugs updates, and finally gating us more fun (ie, fighting the Hologram) behind the terrible Knights fight.

Why are you keep reading and responding to all the “negative feedback”? Clearly people people are not going to stop posting such threads as long as there are people left caring about the game.

What’s wrong with having achievements that can only be completed with a large number of coordinated players? As long as such achievements are kept as a minority, I don’t see how it’s negatively affecting the game.
maybe you want to put an label 18 plus on this game also.
If that means I will no longer feel odd about characters never utter any curse words even in appropriate situations, then I am all for it

Thank you for your continued reports, I’d like to update that we are currently working on issues with:
- The ‘In Tune’ achievement
- The map wide Health Display for the three Assault Knights
- The ‘Six Minutes to Knightfall’ achievement
- Assault Knight rewards
The first 3 are expected and overdue… I hope fixing the rewards means that the players committed to a Knight that doesn’t get taken down before time’s up will no longer be kittened out of their effort.

I am aware that the backdoor was there since the start. I used it when “the current bug of the day” was attunement not spawning correctly after defeating all 3 knights. Let’s take a look at the list of following iterations of kittens that prevent people from experiencing the whole LS.
- The bug where Prime Hologram becomes invulnerable and refuse to split.
- The bug where Knights stopped dropping loots altogether, and people loses incentive to kill the Knights, in turn causes less chance of fighting the hologram.
- The design flaw where people on Breachmaker may not wanting to contribute to the hologram fight for achievement.
- The current situation with Knights being significantly harder to defeat, in turn causes less chance of fighting the hologram.
- The bug(?) where blue Knight can be healed to full health by Mender mobs, in turn causes less chance of fighting the hologram.
… all which makes me wonder if the backdoor’s existence has become an excuse from ArenaNet properly tuning their content. I’m all good for giving people choice on different things, include the choice of skipping bugged/badly design content such as in this case. But it looks like ANet is not doing enough for those who wants to experience their LS in full glory, “as intended”.

“Break up the zerg! It’s ruining the game!!!”
“Gah! Let us zerg! What happened to ‘play how we want???’”
I don’t understand why Arena.net “doesn’t listen to their fans.” It’s not like the player base wants different things or anything.
Does the fact that different people have different and opposite opinions surprise you?
No one was calling ANet to break up the zerg on the knights. The incentive to not zerg was for an optional achievement, which is something reasonable. What isn’t reasonable and is currently ruining the game is to prevent a large portion of players from entering the hologram fight.
Personally, the hologram is the most fun part of this week’s LS update. I am not taking this kindly when the most important factor of winning the encounter is to be on the right server/overflow where the entire map of players must be present on fighting the knights when they spawn (not going to happen), and they are lv80 in zerk gear and have decent build (also not realistic to expect).
I fail to see how a simple mechanism of “get in the circle and get a buff before you can damage the boss” is a worthwhile cause to post a qq thread. The mechanism is not confusing, but the dps/coordination required to succeed can legitimately be frustrating.
Lol. Not going to pay anet for gems just to hold all those blades…

The portal is literally and figuratively a backdoor that is designed to skip a portion of the event that has been proven to be buggy. Of course its existence is better than nonexistence, but it’s quite unfortunate such mechanism is necessary. The flawed (and shifting) paradigm of the Knights and the Hologram fight compromises what would otherwise be a truly epic and satisfying final installment of Scarlet’s madness. I hope in the future ANet can design and implement content without the necessity of such backdoor for us players to experience what they want us to experience.
Well, if you go insane by trying and failing and are forced to watch the cutscene 34628736 times, Scarlet wins. Hence I’m not gonna make an attempt until the stupid cutscene is made skippable.
I keep saying LS events are crappy and discouraging for new players entering the game because 1. it’s easy to get lost and confused in the lore and what’s actually going on and 2. they don’t have the equipment to handle the events effectively.
don’t forget 3. They have missed all the “content” happened before they joined in and have no way to experience the past story in game.
ANet must be blind for not seeing Living Story hinders further influx of newer player—something that all MMO should strive for all the time. I’ve suggested that they should recreate the living story chain into personal story style missions. Of course, massive zerg and zone-wide events cannot be recreated, but they can make some changes and add friendly NPC, etc.

I think “In Tune” is basically and practically requiring players to land a few hits on the few hologram at the start and then stop contributing damage for the rest of the fight.

For the time being, I encourage you to encourage your fellow players to wait to kill the first Knight until a time where the other two Knights are closer to death. If you can get the Prime attunement in under 5 minutes from the first Assault Knight’s death, you will portal up to a grace period and you will have some time to load in and prepare yourself before the Prime Hologram begins her onslaught. Again, it is an issue we are aware of and should improve with the Assault Knight fixes.
But then again, players joining mid-fight shouldn’t be punished by loading into a danger zone. The player spawn location on Breachmaker should be a safe location.
Also, there is no excuse in such a late reply to a critical problem in the ongoing Living Story event. As someone already pointed out, it doesn’t take long to type a short post to let the players know that 1) This is most certainly a bug (instead of a feature) and it is under investigation, and 2) when will there be a patch that fixes the issue.
It is not reasonable that the most effective attempt at the achievement is to purposefully avoid the boss, hence not contributing to the boss fight.
Silly threads like these really dilute the perceived reasonableness of the players from the eyes of ANet I bet.
Overall I think putting good skins behind a gacha-style gamble is a bad design, but the OP decided to bring forward the issue by raising an irrational entitlement. You got your Tormented weapons in GW1. They are still rare over there… and if you really feel like idolizing your past glory, nobody is stopping you by opening up GW1 and play that game.

Stability doesn’t prevent from being blown away… wth is this?
Braham is a Norn. He has all kinds of animal forms…
…now this is veering off to a uncomfortable direction, so I’ll stop here.
Bravo. I think this direction deserves more discovery!
Honestly though. I would like to see all the coupling/relationship be kept to a minimum in the main story, unless the writer can come up with something truly inspirational, emotional, and relevant plot. For example, I really dislike the incessant flirting between one of these couples during Escape from LA. It felt out of place and doesn’t relate to the story much.
After the most recenter build update the hologram worked for me. are there still issues observed?
How the hell did internal QA not catch this? Assuming of course, ANet indeed has internal QA and actually testing kitten before release.
This happened after the 2nd patch today, not the main patch. Cant do much QA within an hour.
I see. At least it’s good to know that some people were consistently able to finish the boss fight. Still, this is an extremely disappointing and anticlimax development.
Condition users do 0 damage for 75% of the fight
I’m sorry, but can you tell me which profession that has all its ranged weapon’s auto attack to have no direct damage component and purely bleed/poison/whatever? I didn’t know something like that existed.
Apart from things like bleeding cap, which is not isolated on the Knights, there is no design flaw on condition reflect, since the boss have periods where conditions do more damage.
Remember you aren’t soloing the boss, so get out your Power weapon and start hitting the boss, and when the condition shield is down switch back to your old weapon. I honestly don’t see what’s wrong with this mechanism that warrants this much crying.
How the hell did internal QA not catch this? Assuming of course, ANet indeed has internal QA and actually testing kitten before release.
Because the dev team that was balancing dungeons was allegedly dissolved and no one is handling improvement of dungeons.

actually I too thought it should never have happened… since if you are downed you are forced out of transformation, right?
Your farming is hurting others from completing the objective of the event.
This is your problem. There is no singular objective of the event. Just because people aren’t completing the objective you have in mind doesn’t mean they are playing the game wrong.
The fact that ANet designed this event with a conflict of player interest is a bad move. The problem is compounded by a bad scaling on Miasmas. I don’t understand all the holier-than-thou attitude some people seem to entitle themselves with and dish it out at other players… blame ANet, not at the zerg.
You seem to play games to be important and the center of attention. If you can’t tolerate following a story without taking all the glory, then this game is simply not for you.
I guess I am amazed that still at this day, some players complain that the game world of an MMORPG (GW2 is an MMORPG) does not revolve around them, even from a lore’s standpoint.
GW1 is indeed a better game. But it’s also old (as I played it for quite a while and eventually got bored of, like all games), and also took many years to be full of content for players to do.
GW2 on the other hand has a lot of unusual features that you don’t see in other MMORPG. Unfortunately not all of these “fresh ideas” are better than the tried-and-true formulas and can feel like “gimmick innovations”, which are basically doing things differently just for the sake of being different.
Also there’s the issue with Living Story and temporary content. From the look of it ANet is dead set with their strategy… it would be sad to see GW2 in a year or two has very little additional permanent content apart from the current LS chapter.
i think sexual relationships are overrated. I vote for asexual relationship for asexual organisms.
Currently there are two conflicting facts that prevents me (and probably many like minded players) from spending more in the cash shop:
1) The game mandates multiple characters for better enjoyment.
2) Skins cost a lot of gems, and are single use.
I am proposing the following:
1) Make cash shop skins account-wide unlockable, and infinite use
The rationale is simple. They are expensive, especially considering there’s light/medium/heavy variations.
2) Add an item that converts an equipment into an account-wide, unlockable skin
Let’s face the fact of fashion. People want to change their look from time to time, and currently it is prohibitively expensive to do so: Once player is committed transmuting a particular (likely expensive) skin to their “everyday” equipment (ie. Lv80 Exotics at least), there is no going back. I think locking players into a specific look contradicts the whole “horizontal progression with aesthetics endgame” philosophy of GW2.
Also consider the progress of leveling a new character from lv1 to lv80 as an alt character. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to spend all those transmutation stones on armor sets that changes every five levels.
Obviously some equipment (such as Legendaries) may not allowed to proliferate per ANet’s discretion for their rarity… (although personally speaking, I feel the grind associated with getting a Legendary warrants an account-wide skin unlock.)
Yes, the transmutation stones would be fallen out of use if something like this is to be implemented… and if that happens, I won’t say I miss them much. Lastly, please excuse me if someone posted similar suggestions before.
