can do platform jump no problem but when come to motion + jump, there seems to be second or split second of lag .. can this be part of the issue making jumping more difficult here? :P i really want to get this done >.<
moving/running jumps do not increase your distance traveled. you only move as far as you hold the wasd keys while in the air
if you end up with the falling flat visual bug(making it difficult to time jumps), try dodging to reset the sprite back to standing. some particular jumps are visually impossible looking, but for all jumps, you can actually stand beyond the ‘edge’ of the surface you’re on for additional distance
some people also say dodging right after jumping will increase your distance, but I have been unable to reproduce this, though I’ve seen videos of people doing it
for a very generalized answer, our sustain is one of the best in pvp. we can keep pressure up for a very long time while waiting for the right moment to ‘burst.’ and by that, our ability to burst isn’t as great as say a thief or warrior, but it’s still respectable and sometimes unexpected from your opponent’s point of view since if you’re running pt guard and stalling at caps just doing sustained auto-attacks, when you decide to ‘burst,’ it will be to your advantage.
in wvw, it’s less about bursting unless you’re roaming, which is essentially pvp without gear/utility restrictions. but in zvz, especially if you’re judge bombing, you can do incredible burst damage and escape with relative ease if you’re traited correctly and picked the correct utilities
the 1h sword unfortunately deals less damage than the mace, and the skills it comes with suck atm. They deal less damage while making you more vulnerable to recieving damage by rooting you in place. The skill that teleports you deals less than normal damage, and even autoattack deals less damage than mace. But if you want to make your game harder, then go for it.
give this a read if you’re comparing apples to apples damage, skills excluded
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/72921-auto-attack-dps-of-guardian-weapons-at-base-stats/
in terms of solo utility and damage, sword > mace
@OP if you want to play in a party, mace might be better since you’re more suited to it as per your post
i prefer the sword over any 1h weapon for guardian. i use it for pve, wvw, pvp and all dungeons/group activities because of the overall versatility/speed compared to mace
haha good to see this is still being updated
recently i’ve been completing the fire elemental boss chain in metrica province and drew a pretty obvious comparison(don’t know how it escaped me first of all)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rooba
vs
the roomba 500 series(not sure if we can link to third party consumer sites)
anyway, rooba is the asuran in charge of cleaning up the mess in the thaumanova reactor and her cleaning golem is the 5000. not only that, but he walks in a circle in 2 pre events and a warning to all roomba owners: empty out that vacuum lest you want a spill in your home

I doubt it will get closed as an exploit unless Anet wants people to stop playing SAB. All the skins are account bound, except for the really rare drops from the chest.
It takes some time to make a character, go through intro, get to the box and do a zone.
Doing it on existing alts (a lot of us have 8 characters) is much faster since you don’t have to do the intro/character creation stuff. Honestly, I don’t understand why the account-bound skins are so tedious to get. It should be about fun, not grinding the same zones over and over.
really? truly lolworthy
the box has been out for 1/30 days and you complain about a grind because you can’t get them any faster?
please be reasonable
hey mal-
i’ve been having the same exact issues as you since the march 26th patch. my normal routine is about 3-5 hours a day, 20-22 hours a week of play. no crashes, no BSOD’s, no stalls or hard lockups.
come the march 26th patch, all of a sudden, i’m getting BSOD’s up the wazoo from TDR’s. there’s no real fix for these TDR’s as nvidia themselves stated that there are many factors that cause it. i can be idling in lion’s arch or sitting in a quiet area of the game or doing a dungeon or event; it doesn’t matter i get a hard lock requiring a manual reboot.
i’ve tried many many things to ‘fix’ it, to no avail. i’ve also been working with support and after 3 days, still no workable results.
-memtest81+ returned all normal, expected values for my ram
-all core temps@load are 55-75c
-gpu temp@load is 55-75c
-tried rolling back to stable driver builds
-tried rolling back using system restore to a stable point
-canned air to remove a small bit of dust
-disabled aero
-modified registry to extend the window of time to ignore TDR
not sure what to do, because playing SC2 produces no stalls or hard lockups.
next up is a thermal repaste and reseat of the HSF and my gpu…though i suspect this is not hardware related(my friend still thinks it is and his laptop running similar specs is not having any issues). other than that, it may take some fiddling with the voltage to my ram and possibly a new PSU, though the brick that came with my laptop should still be providing the necessary wattage. very strange.
when i have the gw2 client running the background, browsing via firefox or chrome will produce a screen redraw(stalling).
i take good care of my laptop, playing in ventilated areas, never dropping it, etc.
There is nothing technically illegal about gold sellers/botters.
Not sure about murica, but in most EU nations it’s illegal to sell virtual items that belong to someone else.
Gold is classified as a virtual property and cannot be sold, even ideas are covered by intellectual property laws.
Legally, you own nothing in GW2, including your account and all items related to it.the actual issue is not selling virtual property, because it is clear that is illegal. how they get around that is in the fine print: they are charging a premium for a service…basically a ‘transportation’ cost- the cost of shipping that item to you(in game mail).
this is nothing new as this existed back in the diablo 2 days(possibly even earlier?) when items were sold in a less sophisticated fashion on ebay and to avoid legal persecution by blizzard, sellers put up disclaimers in the form of ‘you are paying for the cost of shipment of this item to your account. the item remains the sole property of blizzard inc.’ or something along those lines.
That was to get around Ebay’s EULA, not to prevent law men kicking down their doors.
C’mon peeps – keep up.
i didn’t mention the third party sites selling directly either, but they had the same disclaimer.
it has less to do with ebay’s eula than you’re giving credit

I must add that I pug 100% of all content including dungeons and fractals(30+) and I welcome any and all classes simply because I enjoy the content and often do not play for efficiency’s sake
having played 2 guardians to 80 and a warrior to 80, I can say that there is a pseudo trinity working as the current meta. I have abandoned the warrior after 300 hours of play because I find the way I play as a warrior to be static and one-dimensional(my fault).
however, on both my guardians, I can achieve drastically different styles of play. aside from the fact that I always seem to draw aggro, my main guardian performs as control primarily, but very often I’m also dpsing(second to warrior usually) because I traited properly to allow 15-20 stacks of might to propagate within seconds, often out-dpsing a warrior who has expired all stacks of might.
my second guardian runs pure support with moderate to high dps depending on the party comp(boon dispensers). I can’t ‘tank’ as well as my main but I offer up much more support than my ‘selfish’ main guardian.
I love both and participate in pve and wvw regularly. I don’t see a( lack of a better term) WoW trinity, but something more fluid in which roles change dynamically mid-combat(downed state comes to mind- genius, really), which I think was anet’s intent. it works for me as a hard trinity is quite boring to play within.
new custom armor set. settled with the dyes, but i want a different scheme.
fooOOoo000o0oO
guild pk opened up balth again for the 3rd time in a row on ET!!!
=]
well, after spending 20m on jormag, i got the weird sound error and dc’d. when i tried to relog and use my guild mates as anchors, i got a message that that ‘world was full.’ when i finally got back in, there was no chest. super lovely use of my time!
Credit cards help a lot.
For example, right now on my server there is an Eternity, two Twilight and six Sunrise available through the TP. Buy enough gems, convert them to gold, and you can buy several Legendary weapons outright, no grinding required.
The real question is, at this point, why does anyone want to waste their time with these things?
the tp is global, so those legendaries are what’s on sale across all NA/EU servers
i didn’t notice a change in difficulty since i completed it twice earlier on other characters. no consumables, no downed state, no deaths, no kiting, no jumping nor terrain tricks
it was over in 20 minutes…
this happened in the last patch too. it took about 20min before i was able to log in. about 10min of waiting and you will get a timeout error
since i have a preference for heavies, i would love another soldier profession, specifically one that can use spears on land. call it whatever name you want it: legionnaire, dragoon(hur dur, no mounts = no mounted infantry) etc. i would like to see some more condition damage dealing heavies(if condition damage is ever given a much needed facelift)
weapons:
spears, tridents, rifles, greatswords, swords, shields, daggers
skill types:
rallies(support)- applying, removing and transferring boons
maneuvers(control)- knockdowns, stuns, dazes, flanking synergies
armament(damage)- don’t know how to implement this to make it unique from other professions. passive boosts are boring. temporary ones could work, but i feel like sigils and runes already fill that role. condition damage enhancement?
profession mechanic- STOMP. leap(1200 range teleport[leaps up into the air, disappears, 2 seconds later, lands on target] that inflicts all conditions[think opposite of guardian’s save yourselves]). conditions last 5 seconds, STOMP on 90 second cool down(can be traited for 20% reduction).
-or-
barrage(ranged attacks)- 900 range, 4 ‘spears’ or ‘pila’ form behind legionnaire(think spirit weapon skin) and fly forward, piercing all enemies in 900 range, inflicting bleed, vulnerability and poison. roots player for the duration(1-2 seconds, not sure yet) with a 60 second cooldown(traited for 20% reduction)
haven’t thought up weapon skills or traits yet, but you get the idea.
[edit]
i realize i stole the leap idea from the final fantasy series, but a mechanic that uses mobility is something we don’t have in game yet.
(edited by kiba.2768)
guardian flash-bang. only it affects team members. onoes!!!!
You can’t really allow the effect to be turned off as enemies often rely on the the visual cue so they can avoid wasting their high damage skills on you ( which is a fair mechanic ).
I think it would be nice if they changed the effect when the shield is equipped so it emanates around the shield edge. But I’m fairly certain this would require tweaking every single shield model to accommodate the effect – Anet has (hopefully) bigger fish to fry.
that’s why I said client-side, not server-side
same issue here. look at the difference
i wish there was a toggle for applied effects like the helmet and shoulders, but client-side only instead of server-side
since the new patch i’ve been sitting for 10m watching a yellow circle
well, i’ve never EVER had a non positive thing to say about gw2, so this is a first for me.
i’ve been playing with my 1 guildie in our guild of 2 since launch and this news just…idunno. i’m sad/disappointed?
it’s either 3-4 months of dailies or 3 weeks of guild missions for the 3 new ascended trinkets my build requires. i know we have options, but the disparity in time investment is enormous.
hey all. been playing since launch and i hate to say it, but with the way the guild missions are set up, my guildmate and myself in our guild of 2(since launch) cannot earn nor complete guild missions on our own.
so i’m seeking out a pve/wvw guild for myself and possibly my guild mate if he wants to tag along. we are both pretty accomplished players…he just crafted his first legendary and i crafted my second legendary a few nights after. we run dungeons, fractals, some light wvw, he does pvp(i do not) and we both spend a fair amount of time farming for mats/gold.
if there’s room for us and you’d like to have us, feel free to send me a pm here, or in game: sabishii kiba
looking forward to making new friends =]
your prayers have been answered
[edit]
laurel vendor has the new cleric earring and amulet. unfortunately, i bought the celestial amulet and a mighty infusion, so unless anet retroactively awards laurels or i bandwagon a large guild, it’s gonna be another 3 months until i can get enough dailies in for new earrings and an amulet.
(edited by kiba.2768)
what dyes are you using on your armor Kiba, the blue gloss looks nice.
graphite, white and redemption. i’m done with my custom armor skin setup so it’s off to find new dyes =]
bolt suffers from the double hilt/pommel graphical bug like vision of the mists when in use…weird
as for sword/board in pve, i’ve been using it since a month after launch and i find that it works well in wvw and somehow found its way over into my pve for soloing champs or tougher 1v1 pve encounters.
please excuse my new armor setup as i’m not done yet(need to find new leggings from hotw)
[edit]
i am a guardian =]
this is a /me thread so if you don’t care for those, read no further and press the back button on your browser.
a couple months ago, when i finished fsp, i saw that riaky had made a bolt to pair up with his fsp and i knew that i had to do the same. there’s nothing quite like equipping 2 legends at the same time.
anyhow, even after 2, i’m sure i made a few mistakes along the way in terms of the order of things, but the result is the same: i had a ton of fun doing this and met some really nice people in the process. my guildie in our guild of 2 just finished his bolt 2 nights ago as well, so we’re ready to dual bolt any instance we come across =]
in retrospect, getting the non purchasable gifts first, followed by the precursor next would have been the smartest move, though i opted to get the 2000 t6 mats when anet balanced the drop rate with the latest patch out of excitement.
anyway /gloat
have a good night in tyria…
finished my bolt today. supremely joyous!
right, but the chance of getting the precursor you need, let alone ANY precursor to drop while farming mats is so infinitesimally small.
like I said, I don’t rely on RNG. whatever I can control, I do. and I can control with 100% certainty that I will obtain my precursor using the method I choose.
if you closed your account for a refund, I don’t think they can link your old account to your new one. but like someone said already, send in a support ticket and see what anet can do
i agree with everyone here that says precursors should be equipped as a MANDATORY aspect of acquiring a legendary. if i were a dev, i would require players to earn 100,000 kills on the precursor that’s going to turn into a legendary, with a limit of 100 kills a day maximum. that time gated content will ensure that even casuals can reach 100 kills a day and prevent nolifers from reaching a legendary faster than anyone else just because they can play 8+ hours a day.
100,000 kills on 100 kills a day would take 1,000 days—or 2.7 years—to achieve. That’s on par with the absurd WvW achievements. Time gated content is fine when its a matter of a month or two. Not years. I once joked that I’d rather get a college degree than a Legendary. I didn’t mean it literally.
haha i’m sorry, i meant 10,000. it’s been a long day(5am work day and kids from 4-9pm). i was aiming for a 3-4month killing period per precursor. thanks for catching that!
look at it this way:
if you think the 2000 t6 mats you need now are expensive, when the scavenger hunt starts to give out precursors, expect a HUGE inflation of the mats as they become scarce as people race to secure them. the total price of the legendary pre scav and post scav hunt COULD be virtually the same. pair that up with the fact that anet likes to do mass bot bans with patch releases and well…the results could be devastating, at least initially.

those that have all their gifts are stuck in a weird place as i believe in the time between now and the scavenger hunt release(which, btw if anet is smart, will be time-gated and won’t allow anyone to ‘finish’ it upon release…as in each monthly content update will ‘update’ the scav hunt), they could farm enough gold to buy a precursor, but instead have to sit around for another 3 months on their gifts in lieu of spending that gold.
when the scav hunt is released, i guess i have no choice but to chase that 3rd(and possibly 4th) legendary….
but you have to agree that the options of favorable paths towards acquiring them is more diverse.
i want to agree with you here, but precursors can drop from just about anything that can drop t6 mats. that includes all lvl 80 zones as straits does not drop t6 nor precursors afaik.
t6 and precursors can be bought from tp.
t6 and precursors can drop from the same mobs.
t6 and precursors can be gotten from the MF(t6 being a random amount, precursor being a random event)
this reminds me of the people who only played pre-searing in gw. yes, i was one of them just for shiggles
-snipped-
since you agree with me on the material progression, i will address your other points.
as an engineer and a numbers man, i do not like RNG. i try to keep all aspects of the legendary process under my control. the clovers fulfill the necessary RNG aspect and that’s enough for me.
as for all the other parts, it is 100% within my control. the only thing i have to do is expend time. if you feel like you want to get lucky or burn yourself using the MF, that is YOUR prerogative. anet has made multiple avenues to obtain a precursor. why people use the MF and get mad when they get nothing in return is beyond me. going into it, people should know the risk of gambling. the game has no memory when it comes to RNG, so ‘expected’ return values are a load of crock. i don’t care how much evidence people have for ‘expected’ returns. if you fall on the bad end of the ‘scale’ and waste all your gold/mats, that is your fault. it is in NO way anet’s fault. you don’t have to use it.
precursors have an abysmally low drop rate and the only reason i can think of is to chalk it up to the ‘exclusiveness’ of legendaries, if that even means anything to you.
just because you don’t agree with saving gold as a ‘gradual, reasonable grind’ doesn’t mean that it isn’t an effective way to obtain a precursor. is it because gold doesn’t physically take up an inventory slot?
if you agree that you can sell rares and buy ectos, what’s wrong with selling rares to buy a precursor? your whole logic is flawed.
while i still stand by my original statement of not using a precursor while gathering everything else as strange, buying one vs using the MF or hoping one drops shouldn’t matter as long as you get one(without exploits, ofc).
on the topic of gifts vs precursor cost, you are wrong again. there is no difference whether you farmed for t6 mats or farmed for a precursor or farmed gold to pay for both. some gifts cost more than precursors and that is an undeniable fact, whether you like it or not. you can either save every single t6 mat until you reach the 2000 you need, or you can sell every one and get your precursor first; the order is up to you but the end result is the same.
lastly, excessive cost is arbitrary. are you saying that the cost of the gift of bolt is not excessive, but the cost of zap is? again, i do not see the logic in your argument.
here’s another question that has been hinted at in every precursor thread:
if you could progress over time to obtain your precursor but still spend the exact same amount of gold on it(shifting market prices), would you?
I think the answer is yes because like I said above, people are more likely to spend the same amount of gold over time instead of 1 lump purchase
The biggest difference is how the gifts are obtained as compared to a precursor, not the price per se. I don’t think anybody has ever bought every single material they’ve used in the gifts and this makes a lot of difference. Making the gifts also gives a better sense of accomplishment than taking the same amount of time and getting 1 item that will only be sitting on your inventory until you’ve finished collecting several, smaller pieces. Is it better to keep on grinding 1 dungeon (CoF path 1 for example) to try to get the gold you need asap to buy a precursor or go around the world – either in PvE or WvW, farming for the mats you need?
Ideally, I’d rather get the gifts while wielding the precursor to at least get a sense of attachment to it. It comes with a very hefty price afterall, might as well use it. But at the moment, it’s not possible for everyone.
What I don’t understand is why it should be the hardest part of a legendary to acquire (limited to either grinding gold or luck).
if this is in reference to ‘physical progression’ then I will agree with you. otherwise farming vs buying mats with farmed gold makes little difference other than the mindset that you did not ‘buy’ the mat.
I guess what matters is how you feel about your playtime whether it be farming gold and indirectly obtaining what you need vs directly farming for what you need. a surprising number of players feel like their time is wasted indirectly buying mats, which i think is strange since the outcome is exactly the same.
let me bring up something that has already been discussed. the current price of legendary gifts are a bit more than the actual precursors themselves, yet people do not hesitate to go after them first.
is it that the gifts can be farmed directly so there is some semblance of progress? how is it different from farming for gold? is it because gold is liquid wealth vs mats as physical proof of progress? to me they are the same thing. I think that people hesitate to drop 500-700g in 1 purchase as opposed to dropping 500-700g over time, even if the time to acquire that much gold is equal. it is a strange thing, but people tend to think that way. I may be generalizing too much, but in both real life and gaming, this is what I’ve noticed.
so in that regard, getting the precursor first shouldn’t be an issue vs the purchasable gifts unless you want to feel the ‘physical progression.’
also keep in mind that usually the price of precursors is on the rise and in comparison to the inflation of individual t6 mats, it is greater, so purchasing the precursor first will actually save you gold in the end. it just takes dedication against spending the gold that you save up. I think that people who have liquid wealth cannot resist against spending it especially if there is a large sum just sitting in the bank or on your character.
[edit]
typos galore! ><
[edit2]
here is the post with gift prices I was referencing. for example, both the gifts of fortune and bolt cost more than zap itself. this won’t hold true for the precursors in the 700g range, but aside from dusk, colossus and the legend(expensive due to popularity ofc), the price of the gifts exceed the associated precursor.

yes. both of mine. IMO pres are the first thing any legendary chaser should get. just doesn’t seem ‘right’ to have this long journey only to get the weapon last, never use it and suddenly ‘imbue’ it with legendary properties.
to each his own, though. some pres are just…not attractive so that might be a reason as well as their costliness
yeah I see these regularly in Orr. never gotten anything less than masterwork from them. often times it’s a rare =]
back to back exotics from the same group of mobs
that makes 4 this week….
just waiting for a pre to drop haha..
skar-
I’m in the same exact place as you. just got my zap last night and I’m 70 runestones away from bolt!!!
ahhhhhhh as soon as I turn in my senior engineering project(tomorrow), I’m going to make gold as fast as I can. I estimate 4-5 days from tomorrow I’ll have it and then I’ll be able to pair it up with FSP for extra shiny-ness =]
[edit]
on a related note, my guildie got zap 2 nights ago so we’ll have dual bolts at about the same time. much happiness
(edited by kiba.2768)
non chest exotics- 14. just got reyna’s coat earlier today and hypnotic scepter earlier this week.
chest exotics- 50+. i don’t really count these as they aren’t affected by mf and i also don’t consider them ‘drops’ nor open world rewards.
my event buddy finds 1-3 exotics per day. i didn’t believe him until he started linking every one that dropped.
1- human female guardian
2- human female guardian
3- human female warrior
for the first 77, i used singles until i got so sick of clicking, i went with 10x when i hit 37 until i got 77.
for the second 77, i did it in 1 sitting, 10x until 70, singles until 77. it took me less than 2 minutes. much more satisfying.
my odds ranged between above 40% with the first attempt and better than the reported 33% on the second(not that it mattered since i would have just spent an extra 30 seconds getting to 77 no matter what in 1 sitting)
