How much gold for lvl80

if you do ac exp runs, 1 set of all paths will earn you enough gold to lvl a craft completely(maybe not weapon/armor/jeweler, but very close to covering all the costs) not to mention you’ll get 2+ lvls just completing the dungeon

Compare a 6 silver drop in ecto (unintended by Anet) with a 13 silver drop in Powerful Bloods (intentional). 6 silver drop in ecto price isn’t all that much to write home about.

that part made me laugh. 6s drop in ECTO. are you kidding me? compare the uses for ecto vs powerful blood. a 2s drop in ecto is worth writing home about.

i’ve got a relatively small sample size, but for what it’s worth, i’ve been farming southsun every day the past 10 days with my 3 lvl 80’s. i harvest every node and have come up with 11 flowers. i use mithril picks and don’t use any banners.

you don’t need to do the jp’s(i completed them again anyway for the memories and the loot). this is probably the easiest monthly to date in terms of time invested for completion.

Question about infusing backpack and ring?

I suggest you wait for future “infusion crystals” to be implemented.
Save you golds for it instead of infusing it with just +5 +5 stats now.

not sure what you mean with infusion crystals. may i ask for a link?

otherwise, 75 fractal relics for 5 infusion is a pittance. running 10+20 daily is more than enough to get your infusion slots filled

i have almost 3k relics sitting in my bank….and i don’t run fotm every day either.

gz man, i wish i had two legendaries… the only thing that is wrong on this picture is your class… guardian with shield and sword is kinda kitten and lame in pve…. unless you play WvW i guess it could work.

P.S please don’t take it personally i’ve been playing guardian since beta and got two lvl 80 guardians on my account none using shield and sword…

i have 2 lvl 80 guardians as well. gs//staff on my first and then i tried hammer//sword/shield on my second. i scrapped hammer in favor of sword/shield//scepter/shield. the utility combined with conditions is amazing in wvw and i do exceptionally well in dungeons. my belief is that in open world pve(not wvw, not dungeons), any weapon is viable in pretty much any place.

my only gripe is that sword 2 often gets me stuck in terrain/pillars. other than that i can bring great dps and decent cc/support with shouts and crits

passiflora nodes vanishing

kiba.2768

unless i’m unaware, passiflora nodes shouldn’t be on a 24 hour timer, like orichalcum, right?

this morning, at 5:15am pst, i went to southsun cove to do a little harvesting before work and i managed to gather 2 passion fruits from 1 node before all the nodes on my minimap vanished. i wandered around to make sure i didn’t toggle something off on my minimap, but the mithril nodes were still visible. at the time, i had 5 of the green bush icons and they literally disappeared and going to their location proved the same.

i logged onto another character and was able to harvest them normally, the same exact ones.

the strangest thing was that i was able to harvest once, then they all disappeared.

first off, i want to say i don’t powertrade…i’m not good enough.

so with that aside, when i get rares/exotics i want to tp, i sell them with a certain scaling % from the highest sell order in order to get my coin back to me faster. i figure the faster i get my coin, the faster i can get it to make more money for me(niche crafting markets- i buy raw mats and craft for 100-200% roi while i dungeon)

I wish I could get that sort of ROI from the items I craft, but I guess I’’ll just have to be happy with getting 25-30% (after fees).

What I try to do when I undercut is to find a value that has some “appeal” to potential buyers. I figure that if someone is on the fence about whether to buy a particular piece or not, then using the old retail trick of ending the price in 95 or 99 may help swing them towards making the purchase.

95, 97, 99 totally get me to buy haha.

here’s a hint to my roi…don’t make max lvl gear. people who are 80 are less likely to buy anything BUT rares/exotics. people who lvl(not yet hit the ‘dead zone’ where they want to craft to lvl to 80) in open world pve need blues/greens and don’t think twice about making 1-5s purchases every 10 levels. that’s all i’m gonna give you..hope it helps. also, a diversified portfolio is helpful as well as being patient with buy orders.

thing with communication is….anet has to be careful with the wording and the exact meaning behind each statement they make, because they are considered OFFICIAL posts.

if something was said that wasn’t completely true and someone(probably a ton) of players found out(which has happened) imagine the amount of flak the devs come under.

alot of my ex-hardcore friends from various other MMos refuse to even touch GW2 because of the insane grind for any legendary.

And finally, the average player of GW2 will just never get a legendary weapon, pure and simple because of the stupid requirements, the non-hacker players will just more or less give up and go quit, which hurts the game in general. Lets face it, the average player, heck even totally LEGIT players probably have less than 200g even if they played from launch, especially considering an unfavorable RNG.

a few problems with your post.

legendaries are not meant for everyone to have. with a few exceptions, i think(though i hate to say it) they are catered to the hardcore/nolifer player base. if someone who plays casually wants one, then it will take time. i believe anet didn’t think the first legendaries would hit less than a month after launch. 6mo-1yr is acceptable as a timeframe.

secondly, having a legendary is not essential to gameplay. having a maybach is not essential to living. see the analogy there?

as of today in 1h of play time, i made 7g WITHOUT using the tp. this is all i can do with the obligation i have irl, which is 1h more than the usual ZERO i get to play on the weekends. consider how much i can make in a normal 3-4h session. 200g since launch is kinda…well..laughable.

i don’t see your reasoning as effective and the threat of posting until an official answer is probably not going to go in your favor. perhaps making a suggestion in the suggestion forum is better? my 2copper for ya

I can’t tell if that’s a jab at me or not. in any case I made myself a goal and I went after it. that’s my m.o. for life in general. if you set yourself a goal. work towards it every day(or not if you want a day off) in time you will complete your goal.

I lurked the forums for a long time before posting and I’ve noticed no difference in people’s attitudes pre and post legendary. people will complain just to be heard. I’ve set myself another goal of getting a beta fractal back piece and bolt in that order. in the time I’ve completed my legendary until now, I’ve already amassed 77g. I can buy bolt in 15-20 days at the rate I’m playing. is there a secret? no. I just don’t give up and flood the forums with negative posts about how out of reach ‘x’ and ‘y’ are.

i am a casual.

i spent 2 months earning the 125g i needed for the chosen.

No. No you are not a casual.

yes I am. I play 3-4 hours a day. I am efficient with my time. by comparison I now make 400g a month with the same time played per day. it’s called streamlining my play time. you should try it sometime

3-4 hours a day is not casual. A casual player is more like 8-10 hours a week or less.

mm then a hardcore player is 8-16 hrs a day?
so where am i then? i’ve heard tell that people with 9-5 jobs who play from 6-10 or 10-2 are casuals. i count myself among them. 2 days a week i don’t play at all. that brings my grand total to 15-20 hours a week.

[edit]
not saying i’m skilled, but if i can earn my legendary in 4 months with that little play time with zero magic find…well it means something. i don’t grind either. if i get bored of doing one thing i change it up. rarely do i follow the same routine every day.

This part – is around 65-70G each time , it cost 250 globs of ecto for beta capacitor and the next one 250 ectos
- Please always use the TP to buy stuff, sighz so sad.

while this is correct, the OP was referring to a fully statted backpiece, which does not require it to be infused, as agony resistance does nothing for you in open world pve.

the 250 ecto only infuses the backpiece, which is not necessary unless you are going for fotm 30+

the OP is still correct in not having to spend a single copper.

just wearing one, you can tell who’s an above average player. Only the 1% would have one though, and it would quickly turn into gearscore.

you said it yourself. if this were the case, then a legendary becomes another gated mechanism.

there is no solution to the legendary issue we see in game. either someone has it and they are a ‘gold buyer/nolifer/noskiller’ or they are ‘above average’ and soon parties will only want people with legendaries to ‘prove’ their worth. even worse, if someone with a legendary is not of above average skill, would that be false advertisement to the party?

there seems to be a new problem when we solve another. the way i see it, it is fine the way it is. there is no way to appease everyone. if people are jealous of other people’s achievements, that is their issue entirely. resorting to namecalling and umbrella statements only shows the immaturity of said person. it should be taken on an individual basis AS THIS IS A SOCIAL GAME. or supposed to be anyway. that’s another argument that can go on forever…

i spent 2 months earning the 125g i needed for the chosen. then the day of the karka event, i went to work at 5am, set my buy order for 125g(next lowest buy order was 110g and the lowest listing was 140g).

came home from work overjoyed i got it, only to realize that they were going for 60g. a loss, but i didn’t really care as i was happy to get what i wanted and paid what i expected to pay.

after that event, anet increased the dungeon rewards, added in fractals and i learned a bit about the tp. i don’t flip items. contrary, i buy raw mats, craft and resell for 100%+ ROI. i do this in a matter of 2-5minutes while forming a party for a dungeon and by the time i’m out, all my items have sold and my new buy orders are filled ready to go again.

i make my money work for me while i enjoy the game. it’s not uncommon for me now to earn close to 400g per month playing casually. and this is not done in a way to exploit anyone out of their money. no market cornering, no exploits, no grinding, no nothing but pure enjoyment.

Your outlook on the situation is completely correct. Legendaries should be difficult to attain; not through means of farming, no-lifing, and spending real life money on gems. It should be difficult through the means of content required to clear in order to attain the items.

ANet really screwed their wonderful game with the implementation of Legendaries. A huge grind, with 0 emphasis on skill.

And this is why in WvW, when I completely stomp over a guy with a Legendary weapon 1v1, I wonder.. did he really deserve it?

In my eyes, no. A legendary should require few select materials – All attained through the hardest dungeon or world fights in the game. I don’t even know if any of the Arah paths qualify for a degree of difficulty that I am looking for. These fights should be:

-Incredibly difficult
-Require preparation, planning, and teamwork
-100% drop chance on the item if the final boss is dispatched
-Take into account food buffs, conditions, precise dodge timing, and mechanics that not only stress teamplay but individual prowess

I mean come on, they’re legendaries. And as of right now, what I think when I see someone with a legendary is – Wow, he spent $1000 real life money OR kitten that person loves to no-life farm.

EDIT/ADDITION: I’m looking for something on par with Naxxramas 40-man in WoW. Naxxramas took two and a half months for the first guild to clear. That’s called difficulty. Why can’t we see fights designed so well?? That was in 2006… it’s almost 2013 ANet.

funny that you should think that way. i can only guess you’re not interested in a legendary yourself?

Absolutely correct. I’d rather devote my time in-game to something enjoyable, not grinding. I play for fun.

But what’s so funny about my thought process?

If you were to face me in WvW 1v1, you would realize my non-legendary hammer feels quite legendary when I’m putting you to the ground.

your thought process isn’t funny..it’s what you think of legendaries and their owners that i find amusing.

not a place for wvw discussion, but a couple of points:

i am a casual.
i just made my legendary.
i am extremely competent in all areas of the game, wvw included. my skill level does not diminish nor is it nonexistent in any area of the game. i blame this on my taking 4 months to earn my legendary. there was no rush, but i can’t speak for all everyone who has a legendary. i will say that people who lump all legendary owners together into a goldbuyer/nolifer/noskiller niche are equally wrong as they are right.

I got world completion(solo)on the way to 80 and I ended up with near 70g by the time I finished. only bought greens every 6-10 levels and stayed out of wvw(enjoyed it with my guard). the whole process took me 2 weeks and I spent almost nothing. afterward I spent 15g buying mats to craft all my exotics.

it was very liberating knowing there was never a moment when I had to worry about how much coin I had.

i have also considered using a scepter with the legendary shield and making a whisperblade to go along with the fractal shield.

hey rms, i just finished my legendary and i have a similar window of playtime as you. in fact, today i might not even get to play other than my daily achievement.

i do not flip items on the tp, but i make a modest amount of gold there in addition to the gold i make per day.

the short answer is to try out fractals or ascalonian catacombs. i can make 4-5g in 1 hr in ac exp and usually 3-6 rares per run of fractals. the rares usually include 1 charged core for 1.5g

i learned how to make gold MUCH faster near the end of my journey. after spending months not knowing what i wanted to do, i decided to focus on a legendary and here is the result. the first month of playing i saved every copper until i had 150g. in comparison, i could earn 375g in a month in present time.

if i could have changed the order of gift acquisition, i would have. the gift of fortune, specifically the clovers should be done first. the reason is that you never know when the temple of balthazar will open and overspending karma on shards is not efficient. the fact is, once you get the 77 clovers, any leftover shards will contribute to the 250 you need for the gift of mastery. with the introduction of jugs of karma from daily and monthly achievements, getting the 1 million+ karma was inevitable.

as far as earning gold is concerned, from getting my gift of ascalon, i learned how fast the gold can stack up from doing the 3 daily runs that takes less than an hour if you have a good group. i usually earned 4-5g per set of 3 runs. i also gained much coin from doing fractals from selling every rare i could. i did not salvage anything because again, i don’t gamble. i know for a fact that i would sell my rares and in return, buy the materials i would need from the tp. i’ve heard the argument that if you must buy mats from the tp, the legendary is worth LESS. let me dispel that right now. the fact that you played the game and sold your rewards in order to get the items you needed doesn’t make the achievement any less. if you earned it, you earned it. never once did i dabble in any exploits nor try to corner a market in the tp. if you are efficient, you can make your money work for you. using gw2spidy, i was able to find which markets were more liquid than others and after some research, markets with a good return on investment. that way, i could make my money work for me, while i was out in the open world doing other things. it was not uncommon for me to end a 3 hour session with 10-15g banked. using my intuition from previous events, i knew it would be profitable to monitor the market a bit more on the days when an event was scheduled. but i never babysat the tp. whenever i wasn’t doing anything or waiting for a group to form for a dungeon, i would be roaming the 80 zones mining mithril and ori. from southsun alone i can get 1.4-6g daily from the ori nodes. i have 3 80’s, so those of you with more can get even more gold. it takes me about 10 minutes per southsun run.

finally, i want to say that earning my legendary has truly helped me to understand the game(not yet mastered, but i’m on my way) on a whole different level and appreciate the things i never would have tried nor attempted to do. as i’ve said, i don’t grind. if i didn’t feel like doing my daily southsun run, i would skip it. if i didn’t feel like wvw, i would do something else. the open world has so much to do that i was never at a loss to find something worthwhile. i’m now working on my next goal, which is finding an appropriate skin for a sword/scepter to match the shield.

thanks, anet for making a wonderful game and continuing to develop it. i also want to thank my 1 other guildmate(guild of 2 members) for constantly encouraging me. he was 99g from his zap as of last night, so it’s my turn to cheer him on.

good luck to all legendary chasers! if a casual like me can get 1, so can anyone else!

thank you, all, for the well-wishes.

first off, i’m going to posit that i play on average 24 hours a week. i don’t know if this technically falls into the time spent for a casual, but irl, i have many obligations that do not allow me to play for a whole day(with 1 exception). my understanding is that a hardcore player is closer to 10-16 hours a day.

there are two things that kept me on my path. those are gambling and grinding. i do not like gambling and i do not like grinding. i didn’t gamble outside of the clover recipe and i did not grind for anything. i’ve heard that gw2 as a whole is a grind. well, so is life. an umbrella statement isn’t enough proof. there was no grinding, i repeat. as far as gold is concerned, i will explain what i did at the end of the post.

that aside, here was the process i followed:
• precursor
o the chosen- bought outright with gold from over a month of playing. i spent 125g on it the day the karka event happened…realizing too late that my buy order for 125g was about double what it was selling for after the precursor dump. i was at work and unaware anything had happened. was i upset? maybe. did i get over it? certainly.

• gift of the flameseeker prophecies
o gift of metal- harvested all myself. took about 2 weeks.

o gift of history- harvested all myself with exception to the lodestones. i bought the cores with buy orders and combined them myself into lodestones to save on gold. did this in 1 sitting while running dungeons.

o 100 icy runestones- clearing out jormag once a day and spending the coin i generated during the day to buy as many as i could. the corrupted champs dropped many rares and very infrequently exotics. i also have ZERO magic find.

o super sigil of battle- needs no explanation.

• gift of mastery
o gift of exploration- needs no explanation. 2 zones in 3 hours was my average time. as for wvw, i was fortunate to be on devona’s rest, where we have control of most of the borderlands and the eb. i was able to 100% wvw in 1 sitting.

o gift of battle- running the jumping puzzles in wvw as well as contributing to my server’s success helped me gain the 500 badges. about 60% came from puzzles and the rest from looting. this took me about 15 days.

o bloodstone shard- getting to 80 and world completion will net you more than the 200 skill points necessary.

o 250 obsidian shards- karma gained from wvw objectives and the daily jugs. it was only painful waiting for the temple of balthazar to not bug.

• gift of fortune
o 250 ecto- this one was a little more difficult. i salvaged every exotic i gained and the rest were bought from the tp. remember, i don’t gamble. this took 7 days.

o 77 clovers- this one was the kicker. i don’t like to gamble unless i have to. i know this has been a source of frustration for many legendary chasers, but it has to be done. there were a couple steps i took to ensure maximum efficiency. first off, the rate of getting a clover is 1/3, that is well-known. whether you’re using the 1 or 10 recipe it doesn’t matter. i did many 1 recipes until i failed about 18 in a row. after that i decided to save myself from carpal tunnel and used the 10 recipe until i hit 70+. when i finally landed at 74, in order to NOT overspend karma on shards that would not be used for awhile(ever?), i bought sets of 3 shards with fractal relics and finally inched my way to 77. i actually ended up at 78 since i had 1 shard left over. this took me 7 days as well.

o gift of might- about half of these came from clover fails. the other half came from fractal runs and bought from the tp.

o gift of magic- see above.
as far as generic gifts, that’s it. from there, i specialized in tailoring and armorsmith for the gifts of metal and history.

can’t figure out the last bit, right where you are on the last mint and the boulder is rolling.

avoid the boulders by running on the candy circles on the side, then when you reach flying presents jump on them to the end

oh i fail

i tried to get to the top of the snowball spawn

must say, the music is fitting. slightly nostalgic with a mysterious/mischievous twist to it.

the use of the glockenspiel and the chimes..perfect!
