I would suggest to only nerf AoE skills based on how many targets it hits. An AoE skill hitting 1 target should still have the same damage as it have today, but when your AoE skills are hitting big zergs up to 10 people it should lower on damage and MAYBE have a cap on how many people it can hit.

Aoe skills only hit five people currently.

Actually, I play a pve mesmer.

I play PvE mesmer as well using staff and scepter/focus as my weapons. It is true that the AoEs in the weapons itself are not highly prevalent but all shatters are AoEs as well. They have about same radius as untraited lava font has.

I’ve focused on clone generation which means I can push out both mind wrack and cry of frustration with three clones both pretty much the moment I open battle. This means that in events I hit most of the enemies in a group since they like to hug. Additionally I can drop chaos storm and phantasmal warden for extra AoE damage.

I understand that is it POSSIBLE to aoe on a mesmer. The problem is the amount of time / set up. Especially since other classes can hit 1 spell and do equal or more dmg.

So should classes be brought to a middle ground? Should ele’s then have clones? Should Warriors have stealth? Should engies then have portals? Mesmers can do things that other classes can not do. It’s the nature of having distinct professions that certain classes should excel in certain areas that other do not, and vice versa. I would not give up my main ele’s ability to lay down effective aoe to do single target damage in line with a thief. That’s what the thief profession excels at, as it should be.

Guardian will not be nerfed. This nerf will benefit them.

I’m curious as to your logic. How will a nerf to other classes benefit Guardians?

That which does not get weaker becomes stronger in relation. Guardians already being actively demanded by groups will appear even more desirable.

That’s pretty much how it sounded to me as well.

Aren’t these bells temporary items? The ones I have are. Just turn your sound off and go somewhere to XP (then turn your speaker on again) I say, I don’t like making an issue out of everything. This bell thing was a stupid feature. They should have made a bell playing a song instead.

Also, what is spam? Imo it is advertisement involving something illegal like RMT. Otherwise LFG would also be spam & guild advertising themselves is also spam.

There is a rare version of the bell that is permanent. Also, if you repeat LFG and guild advertisements too fast, the game DOES consider them to be spam, and starts to limit your ability to speak.

That’s to stop gold spammers. They should just allow the ignore feature to remove any sound the ignored character can make. Someone could also grief by using emotes.

Look as in game a warrior alone can do more damage than 2 other players while facetanking a boss……

What Game are you playing? In most Dungeons and Fractals, Warriors use the rifle most of the time. Show me some Videos of Warriors at Fractal lvl 30+, who are “facetanking” Bosses besides exploited Mossman.

There are actually more dungeons than just fractals. There have been a few vids of warriors soloing various explorable modes.

Yeah and the guy who did the soloing of those explorable modes is an EXTREMELY skilled player, one of the best. Same with the guy who soloed some explorable modes on an Ele.

Skill =/= OP class

Was hoping someone would quote that. I have no doubt that the player in the vid was an extremely skilled individual. My question to you then is this, Do you believe that there are other skilled individuals who play other classes? The class that he played allowed him to use his skill at it to do the job of a normally five man team. I believe that there are plenty of skilled players using other professions besides warrior. The skill isn’t in question, but what that class allowed him to do with his skill should be. You don’t see too many other classes out there soloing dungeons.

They play quite a bit. I usually see a dev (marked as a dev) every couple weeks. And they often play unmarked as well. I think the company overall just has a mission statement that doesn’t mesh well with what the pve communitythinks. It seems their focus is on “esports” and spvp. If the players want that to change, then maybe instead of the 50 “My legendary is toooo hard” posts, they should post other things?

The melee classes damage are fine, the 1vs1 damage is…well more than fine (just look at how much thieves brag in pvp, wvw). Why does the dev team need to nerf a combat mechanic that belongs to the other classes? All classes should have a role, please don’t homogenize the roles like other mmo’s do, where it just boils down to “Well, should just play a (insert class here) because they can do what all the other classes do AND has better survivability due to whatever reason” Right now I feel unique when I play my warrior, or ele, or ranger, or necro, or mesmer. They each have things that make them fun to play. The future that you are talking about (where you give mesmer portals to other classes, tone down aoe, god knows what else) is the future we have already seen in other mmo’s. There was a reason why people quit the other mmo’s and came here, and it wasn’t all because of a subscription.

They don’t do a lot of damage, you have to trade off damage for survivability. I play a d/d ele, takes me forever to kill stuff compared to a damage build, but, it’s hard to kill me too. The people who complain seem to say that it’s “no fun” to play against them, not that they are a threat to their lives. That eventually they will always lose a war of attrition against them. Of course these guys ideas of fun is to instagib people then call them names or insult their profession, so go figure.

Like any mob or area, Orr takes some getting used to. The area, and the mobs, help to fine tune your build and your ability to play. When I first arrived in Orr,I felt much the same way as you. The undead were fast, had a ton of control abilities, and there were a lot of them. The longer I played there, the more counters I found I had for them, the more ways I found to take them down quickly, it increased my spatial awareness (no longer pulled mobs I didn’t intend to) I’ve always thought of Orr as a crucible, more of a help than a hindrance in the long run. Stick with it and you also will overcome.

I’m not talking about Orr as I said I avoid any place that has undead but they are everywhere (personal story).

Well if you’re complaining about story missions or something, take a friend. If it’s Risen outside of Orr, they are pretty easy to deal with.

If bunker Ele’s are a problem in sPvP nerf them there only. They are not an issue in any other realm of the game. Bunker Guards are more of a problem in WvW and take less skill but neither are really a problem. If anything I think some classes need a buff and some need a tweak here or there but not a big red nerf bat.

They don’t “need” to be nerfed anywhere. They need to let the counter develop on it’s own. The other classes have plenty of skills, they just need to use them, or learn to use them. The bunker ele came from a need to make the ele viable in the first place (in pve, wvw, and spvp), and now that it is, they want to kill the build.

But Killcannon, what does that have to do with AoE damage? They’re nerfing AoE becase of AoE damage specifically. Bunker eles, need some kind of a nerf no doubt. But nerfing AoE to five targets won’t effect bunker elementalists.

Screw this, I’m just going to roll a thief like everybody else…

The nerf to aoe damage come from the fact that since the ele’s cannot be effectively controlled with current tactics, they have a constant dps output that is always in your face in tourneys. It upsets the current builds who are used to seeing an ele and just rolling over them. So now they can’t and the complaints commence. And with the seeming focus on spvp and “esports” for whatever reason the devs have, this becomes a priority for them. Seriously though…esports? That term makes me laugh.

It only has to do with Thieves now feeling like they can’t gank everything they see. Check the Thief subforums, and the SPVP subforums, then check the history of the posters. Just one class who is upset because they actually have to work for a kill.

Not all Thieves use stealth. My Thief uses AOE short bow. But if Anet Nerf’s AOE I will have to use stealth.

They aren’t talking about nerfing the less aoe classes really, such as bows on thieves or warriors. It’s the bunker ele that has the devs and spvp players in a twist. Two bunker eles can effectively dual stack healing and condition removal on one another. The current teams don’t know how to counter it, so hence all the boohoo over it. Why it’s necessary to even bring up aoe changes at all to satisfy one specific subset of a subset of a subset of a community is beyond me. But again, I encourage you to head over to those forums and check it out

Nerfing AoE, really, how many players want that? Like 0, zero, nought, no one…

I want it. Provided they’re talking about melee cleave AoE. What is there right now to punish warriors and guardians from walking into a crowd of mobs and autoattacking with greatsword? Nothing. Absoloutely zilch. And there’s no way other classes without melee cleave can get aoe melee damage.

Honestly you don’t even know how they’re nerfing AoE yet, you’re the one living in your own little bubble if you read two words and overreact like this without anet even detailing what “aoe” they’re talking about. You don’t even know a single thing yet.

But ele’s don’t really play like mages, they are more of a jack of all trades kind of profession. They do well at tanking, kiting, have decent heal abilities. Best thing to do is try the ranged classes if you’re wanting to go that route and see which one you enjoy most. All classes do decent dps so it’s more of a question of finding something that suits you. Try a mesmer, totally different than anything from wow. Good dps and control abilities, with some really good range.

SWTOR launched without a dungeon finder and you see where that kind of failed thinking got them.

You don’t launch an MMO in 2012 without a LFG system. Especially when you know it’s going to be expected.

/boggle

SWtOR failed not because it didn’t have a lfg tool, but because it was WoW reskinned into SW. Zero innovation, besides the excellent story. People finished the story, found out it was just like WoW but worse, then left. They instituted a lfg tool…did it take back off? nope

dungeon finder LFG isn't in the works currently

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

killcannon.2576

GW2 remains a very busy game and from that perspective, an LFG tool is a luxury, not a necessity, at this point. Personally, I like them for efficiency and keeping map chat clean. But we must recognize that introducing one will be controversial rather than a no-brainer. Not that Anet seems to mind controversial.

It’s only controversial to WoW and EQ vets who have stockholm syndrome. The “community” argument is nothing but an excuse to introduce artificial barriers to entry to prevent people who can’t dedicate hours to finding groups (and then hoping they don’t fall apart) or those who aren’t in the biggest (or most dedicated) guilds.
It’s like saying “I had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to get to school, so you spoiled kids need to do it as well to build character.”

Let’s face it, this game is already built around cross-server functionality. There is nothing to stop “community” building for groups of strangers that are put together by a matching tool vs. groups of strangers put together by LFG spam. If you get into a good group, you can still friend those people and play with them.

The lack of dungeon finder is something that a vocal minority feel strong about because that’s the way it should be, because that’s the way it was.

Personally, I’m sick of being terrorized by shut ins. I like this game a lot, but I work insane hours and I hate-hate-hate how hard it is to find groups for story modes as I level. Why did anet go through all the trouble of creating story mode dungeons if they’re going to make the content inaccessible? After a hard day at work, maybe I just want to kick back and watch Rytlock and Logan slapflight like little girls without having to make it a second job to do so.

I don’t know how it’s inaccessible? I announced in map chat, joined a pug, and ran a dungeon in all of 10 minutes. If typing a few words in map chat and actually being part of the community is too much to ask, maybe you should hook up the ole xbox and play some single player games. LFG tools shut out the community, make the game insular, and promote bad manners. If you don’t like people there are other games out there for single player. Take some time, get to know the community, make some friends. It’s what MMO’s are really about. It’s about experiencing the content with other people. Look at what’s happened in other MMO’s that have a lfg tool, look at what’s happened to the community.

We don’t know the stats of infusions yet, but they might not have stats like +power, they only increase your damage defenses etc against those new mobs (which is a lame new mechanic IMO).

The things that make me angry is:

- I need a new set of gear for a new zone
- legendaries will be buffed above exotics

He didn’t forget the runes, the old gear had runes in it that he used as an example.

You’re right, let me change that:

That’s right you don’t have to…unless you want access to the content. So you’re saying that it’s gated then correct?

Yes, gated. But I think that was sarcasm in italics…

So what they have done is release gated content that is only available to people who wish to….run a gear treadmill. As stated in their blog post, and has since not been refuted, but rather reinforced by the developers in other posts, this kind of content is merely the beginning of many more releases of further gated content. It took three months for some players to burn through current content and demand progression because they were bored. The original content was quite huge (lots of dungeons, areas, pvp content) and now their fix for these people is to release one small set of upgraded gear which gates content in favor of these people. Questions : Why gate content? How long before this new set of Ascended gear becomes old hat and the same people want more? What solution do you think Anet will institute at that time? The solution becomes the problem.
