I am assuming you are on a notebook? Typically, you can’t really upgrade graphic cards on a notebook/laptop. There is a semi-hack to use a desktop graphic card as an external unit via the express port. If you going that route look at this link pick something within your budget that scores above 2500.

Seems like hardware issues. You claim its not overheating, but how are you measuring?Have you been using HwINFO or similar tool to monitor CPU/GPU/chipset temps during FOTM run?

3gb download, whens the last time you actually played? The last big winter patch was about 600mb

try a -repair or -image command before re-installing.

might be your internet connection, or maybe networkcard driver issues within win8. Using wifi?

Ran around LA on the same account, on both my system with best performance setting.
3570K@4.2: 55-90fps
Q6600@3.2: 20-30fps

Phenom II X6 ranks slightly higher than Q6600, so that 20fps you are getting is reasonable. Having dual GPU in xfire won’t help much in LA where its mostly CPU-bound. Gw2 can use optimization since its built on a modified dx9 gw1 engine, but probably bottles down to cost since its not a subscription model like WoW.

What is your system spec and where did you update from?

Enabled SLI. run OCCT & Prime95 or something to stress the system as much as possible. If itreboots, then its hardware issue like insufficient power or something.

Since you wiped your computer. Got all your drivers and OS updated?

Seems about right for LA, that city is just load with stuff and strains the CPU alot.
I got 3570K with GTX 660 (non-ti). Best appearance and getting 40-60fps.

Yes, just copy the whole installed GW2 folder to the 2nd computer. Should be about 15GB

Does your system meet the requirements of GW2?

Try moving GW2 folder or -repair command?

So you claim this happens to other games which means this is an issue not isolated to GW2. Also, before you upgraded you didn’t have this issue.

Since windows 8 is new, and you just upgraded, you might want to look if there are updated drivers for your wifi card. Maybe look into the manufacturer’s forum of the wifi card you have instead of here. In the mean time use a Ethernet cable to get stable connection.

i5-3570K & GTX660 (306.97) here with best appearance setting, getting 40-60fps running around LA with all the snow effects etc.

GTX600 series run fine.

‘out of memory’ errors caused by 32bit OS limitations of which upgrading to 64bit would solve. If you can’t upgrade try the /3gb switch method

Let GW2 auto detect or set it to best appearance then notch down the settings until you get the FPS you like.

But given your setup likely medium-ish settings.

not a fix, but a workaround that will benefit more down the road is to upgrade to win7 or win8 (MSFT has $40 upgrade promotion ends January 31, 2013)

What fps are you getting and where are you measuring it at? What is the CPU/GPU load and temp. Is your GPU bus speed correct. Drivers/setting correct & up to date?

Your AMD CPU scores 1,224 which is okay, but definitely not the best and behind the curve of the latest CPUs. You have a very powerful GPU, but likely GW2 wont be utilizing it fully because the CPU will be the bottleneck

Its playable for with low settings for PVE questing etc, dungeons/cities will be laggy, and forget about WvW.

AMD is certainly playable, its not bad, just it not great or the best for gaming.

Since most games rely heavily on single thread performance this list is a good approximation of gaming performance and AMD 8350, the best they offers, rank no where near the top. Its comparable to intel’s last generation performance which isn’t bad and still decent. People who don’t WvW would be perfectly fine and happy with AMD in GW2.

you can just get the parts and build it yourself, its like assembling IKEA furniture. IF that is too intimidating you can have someone else to do it or a company like pugetsystems.com. They get the parts like you normally would, build it, and burn-in test it. You get all the manuals etcs from the individual parts.

There are no in-game benchmarking tools available for GW2 so getting consistent performance comparison is hard. Ideally, I want something to simulate heavy WvWvW scenarios, but that isn’t possible in a consistent manner. So… I thought of using Vista Point camera scenes as a baseline. Some vista points are more demanding and taxing on hardware than others.

Now the question is which one; so many out there.

looks like you are using HD3000 integrated GPU. Known issues with blue streaks and objects. Where did you get the driver updates from? Manufacturer? or directly from intel?

Change your password in case you have been compromised. Try using 2factor authentication.

Get a new account and/or ask Anet to change the name etc.

However, the stalker with enough determination will find you again since this is a social game just like other MMO.

Don’t always see patch notes for small updates. Usually, only the large ones.

Windows control panel > power option > set to high performance

Nvidia control panel > Power management mode > set to prefer maximum performance.

Try those, but i5 M480 is on the weaker side and will bottleneck. You listed core i5 in the original post we all thought it was a desktop cpu lol.

You didn’t post what FPS you were getting and where. However, your laptop is leaning on the weak/low-end side. Since it is a laptop you can’t really upgrade anything. Best advice is to play on lower settings.

Typically should only be 5 things in there. Gw2.dat (~15gb) contain the game files all compressed.
