I think all the GW2 servers are hosted in US-Texas. They are trying to make the most of their hardware squeezing every last bit out of them. Something you gotta do if your MMO isn’t subscription base I guess.

Map loading is mostly hardware. GW2 reads gw2.dat from HD, and the CPU uncompress the files from it. LA has a lot more stuff to load than most maps.

Any updates from Anet ?
I can only play IF and ONLY IF i downclock my GPU by 25-30 MHz.
Else i’ll suffer restarts and freezes.Anet, i know this is the Holiday Season for you guys, but please do something about this. I have faith in you guys

if you need anything else, let me know.
I see that as a hardware issue if you gotta downclock to be stable

Your CPU is bottlenecking. That is why you don’t see improvement even with increased GPU power. Read Q4-11 to understand why

GTX660 ti will run GW2 at max settings. Do you need anything higher in the next year or two? If not, stick with a the 660ti. By the time you need to upgrade a 680 equivalent would have dropped in price considerably or you could get another 660ti for cheaper and SLI.
Once you go SSD you can never go back. Its just too nice.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
560ti and 660 you won’t notice much difference in GW2

Read this to understand why it lags in WvW
Read this to see what other people are running
tl;dr version
WvW is very CPU intensive & you will need a overclocked 2nd/3rd Generation core i5/i7 to run it without lag. (e.g i5-2500k or i5-3570k)

But he already has the 560ti from the previous build. He could get a 660, but would cost more.

Looks good. You can save some money if you don’t plan on using hyperthread and get the i5-3570K instead or get a SSD along with it. You won’t see a difference between 3570K and 3770K with GW2.

Specs:
Windows 7 32-bit
4 gb ram
GTX 560 (310.70 drivers)
i7 930 2.8 ghzWhat I’ve tried:
Running the game on lowest gfx settings
Running the game in Windowed mode
Clean install of Nvidia drivers and resetting 3d settings
Verifying GW2 file archive
Increasing page file size
Decreasing sound quality (<some have claimed this temporarily worked for them or helped increase their play-time, tried it, didn’t work)
Quitting applications before launching GW2 (which didn’t help, because once the game reaches 1.33 GB in memory usage, it will crash. My system would also be using only 70-72 percent of total RAM when it happens)It is worth noting that the memory crash did not occur during the Krait invasion event, which also had hundreds of players. My game crashed during the event due to severe lag spikes and not being able to connect to the server. Issue seems to occur most often during WvWvW, and when it does happen on rare occasions on PvE, its when I zone.
your log shows “out of memory” crashes. Common problem on 32bit OS as it is a limitation of the architecture. Besides waiting Anet to tune their code to work with in the 32bit bounds, there are two workarounds you can do.
- Upgrade to 64bit OS
- Try using /3 GB switch. Which has it’s own downsides.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Before re-formatting just backup the GW2 folder containing gw2.dat & gw2.exe file, should be ~15GB. After installing windows again, copy the gw2 folder back.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
- Rename the GW2 folder to something else where ever your installed it. Default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2 (you can delete it later when you are done reinstalling, renaming incase you still need it)
- Clear your windows temp files of GW2 stuff. C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Local\Temp
- Download gw2setup.exe again and run it

Try lowering shadows settings.

Just for fun I installed Windows 7 64bit SP1 fresh into a Virtualbox machine.
- Downloaded Gw2Setup.exe directly from guildwar2.com
- Started it. It downloaded gw2.exe to % USERPROFILE %\AppData\Local\Temp & auto ran with -Allowinstall command
- Prompted me where to install GW2
- Download speed went at max speed for me from akamai CDN servers.
- Have you tried clearing your temp files?
- Ran as admin?
- Disabled UAC?
- /flushdns command after changing to alternate dns server?
- Windows updated?
If all else fails and you are too lazy to reinstall a fresh copy of windows, you can make virtual machine and download gw2 and copy/move over the gw2.dat

Large patch files isn’t handled by just one Anet server, its spread out through CDN and caches etc. Your ISP might have a local cache itself through their own DNS etc.

nVidia power management I would set to best performance instead of adaptive. Do you have any cards in the other PCI slots? Have you checked if the bios is the lastest firmware version?
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
4GB will help, but you won’t see all 4GB using 32bit OS; more like 3GB.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
- delete local.dat
- check CPU/GPU utilization & temp (see Q5 of this thread on how)

Slot2 should be x16 mode if its a single card. Are you running GW2 while looking at GPUz? Check windows power options & Nvidia control panel power management

32bit OS has issues with out of memory crashes, its the architecture limitation. Unless Anet fixes their code to prevent it, the two workaround is upgrade to 64bit or try /3gb switch method which has possible side effects. To fully utilize that new 4gb ram you are planning to buy, you will need a 64bit OS anyways.

Typically for notebook/laptops you can’t really upgrade the graphic card at a later point in time. At least for laptop designed for size, convenience and weight.
Look at >>this<< list for GPU. You can usually tell which GPU is for mobile with the “M” postfix.

3000+ = max setting
2000+ = high

@Amonet
Exception: c0000005 is a common error I’ve seen with numerous causes. Often because another 3rd party application is interfering. For me it was MSI-Afterbuner, enable Direct3D runtime comparability fixed it, Other people have problems with fraps, mumble, skype or programs with overlays etc. Try disabling your startup applications in msconfig and see if you still get the error. Some have found Disabling FXAA fixed their crashes and/or lowering other settings.

Tried every possible solution.. GW2 just refuses to stop crashing on WvWvW… I’ve sent so many reports to Anet it must look like a hacking attempt by now. My GFX are set to the lowest possible setting. But no matter what, my WvWvW session would crash in 15-30 mins tops.. This has been happening for the past 3 months for me. I REALLY hope a fix is rolled out soon, because WvWvW is becoming so hard to enjoy, especially when I keep expecting the dreaded crash to happen in the middle of a siege..!!!
- List exactly what you have done to troubleshoot
- List your complete system spec with driver versions
- Provide error codes or logs if possible.
That being said, are you using 32bit OS and getting out_of_memory errors?
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Out of memory errors is from the 32bit limitations of the OS. Upgrade to 64bit will resolve it, but if don’t want to or can’t then >>try this<< workaround.

None of the three you listed are gaming laptops. They all use integrated HD 4000 graphics, which is low end, but playable. You won’t get smooth or high game settings. Meaning GW2 will be on all low settings.
Laptop components are all similar from a small selection of manufacturer. What differentiate laptops are their battery/weight/form-factor design.

Get the best card you can afford on >>this list.<<
Usually, a rough guideline is to buy a GPU that is relatively close to the price of your CPU. Buying too high of a GPU will just go to waste since the CPU would be too slow to utilize it, unless you plan to upgrade later to a better CPU etc.
For you I recommend something in the range of ~100. I say get a Radeon 7770, if you get one with rebate its like $70. GTX 550 ti is about $70 after rebate too.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
If you have 3rd party software overlays like MSI Afterburner or mumble etc it could cause crashes. Depends what error code you get.
