After that get the best mobile GPU you can afford on >>this list<<.
CPU is more important in GW2 than the GPU. $1000 laptop won’t allow you to play GW2 at max settings (more like medium), but a desktop 2/3 the price would easily be able to. Go desktop if portability is not a “must have” thing.
Browse >>through this<< to get an feel of what FPS to expect on various hardware ranging from desktop to notebook

I just tried it, spamming enter at char selection. Didn’t see a different in FPS in LA. I’m using nvidia gtx660 (310.70 drivers)

Don’t know what system spec you have, but that type of colour is a known issue of intel integrated GPU.
update drivers.

Thats fps results with a i7-3930K which is much better CPU than core 2 e6400 too.

Move your mouse pointer very slowly down the right side menu of the minimap where the buttons are at. Small area where the pointer changes into a HAND. That, or you can delete your local.dat and reset all your settings.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
That is because LA is load with tons of stuff and your CPU has to work harder.

Obviously, you didn’t read the issue on culling, and what it means.

Thread should probably be here:

But, database password hash could have been stolen, rare, but it has happen to high profile companies. If it was wide spread, Anet would have (should have) notified their users or their public image would be shattered.
I’m leaning towards user error. Phishing links/emails, malware, keylogger, re-using passwords, weak or dictionary password, sharing account etc.

If you adjust your graphic settings and FPS changes alot then its the GPU. If the FPS doesnt change much then its the CPU. That or you can look at your GPU % utilization. (Read Q5 for tools on doing so)
tl;dr
Yes, your GPU is holding your FPS back.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Yes, GW2 could use some optimization, but Omino’s problem is more due to his unwillingness to troubleshoot, and rather whine about it in multiple threads. He has a high end i5-3570, but get 14fps in LA? Most people with that cpu would pull 30-60fps. Even my older Q6600 can pull off 20-30fps.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
How are those scores unrelated?
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
You have a i5-3570, but get 14fps when other people can get much higher. Obviously something is wrong with your setup whether it be settings, driver profiles or software config or whatnot.
Every game is different, just because another game works fine doesn’t mean something isn’t wrong. That kind of deductive reasoning is flawed.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
I’ve had to stop playing the game because of the awful fps eg, 14fps in LA and that ascalon fractal ‘slideshow’ 8fps to 15 fps and the others i’m always around less than 20 fps playing makes me feel ill and get headaches. Such a shame as i waited 5 years for this game I don’t get it I’ve tried everything on that stickied checklist and get the same poor performance, I’d blame my pc but i can run skyrim and other modern games on max settings 60fps np whatsoever : / No expansion for me until there’s some miracle optimization patch (here’s hoping).
Just a quick edit that above performance is settings all on low and lod on low it’s just silly.
Omino .. what cpu do you have?
Intel Core I5-3570 Processor
You have a good CPU, but claim bad fps. Should be getting 50-60fps with dips to 30s occasionally in LA. I have a 3570k and it works well. Something is wrong with your setup.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
30G as in 30GB?
GW2 is only ~15GB total. The last big patch was only 600Mb
Make a backup copy of your gw2.dat incase. Run as admin. Try deleting your gw2.tmp local.dat it will regenerate.

Crossfire will work, but I would rather go for single gpu that performs better. If you are hoping going cross fire will increase FPS dramatically, it won’t, since gw2 is cpu-bound. It will however, let you up the graphic settings, but fps will probably stay about the same in heavy areas like LA & WvW etc.

You can move the mini-map back down to the lower right corner.
Move your mouse pointer to the right side menu of the mini-map until the mouse pointer changes to a hand (e.g: somewhere in between the + and – button works). Click and drag it.

306.97 driver, the previous stable release.

GW2 is rather demanding on the CPU. BSOD typically points to driver or hardware issues. Both 124 and 9c leads to hardware stability issues. Time to look into the bios settings.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Yes, 2GB is very low. Likely the game is running partially on paged ram off the HD.
However, 9400 GT is very low end. Scores only 204. While a HD3000 scores 323. Being the bare min spec requirement, it still plays gw2 pretty laggy at low settings.
SwiftWrath’s 9800 GTX scores 1,134 vast difference there.
Yup CPU is slightly above min spec.
So All three things combined will result in horrible performance in GW2.

What exactly did you do in your hardware test?
Seems very likely its related to hardware issue, like heat or insufficient power etc.

- delete local.dat
- check cpu/gpu temp/load (read Q5 on how to)
- check GPU bus speed
- update drivers or maybe rollback

I was expecting the performance issues to be ironed out by now. I still get low FPS in certain areas (30-40) and major lag when loading into a new zone. At most I’ll see 60% CPU usage and 50-60% GPU usage.
You’ll never reach 100% utilization on the CPU for multicore. Read Q7/8 for details why
i’m using 3570k @4.2 & gtx660, best appearance setting, Usually get stable 60fps capped everywhere except heavy WvW(~30+) and large cities like LA (40-60fps)

GW2 is built from a heavily modified GW1 dx9 engine. Likely done due to cost/resources.
Every game is different.
(e.g: Comparing a first person shooter vs a MMO is entirely different on how it operates.)

do you have “Disable Area of Effect Rings” check marked?

Your CPU is bottlenecked. LA is a fps dip for everyone. Turn down cpu hogging effects like Shadows and reflections will help a bit. You can try overclocking the g620, not sure how well it can with your motherboard. My Q6600 OC to 3.2 gets 20-30fps in LA.
If you want to upgrade then get a core i5/i7 2500 CPU or higher, your motherboard should support it. Look at this cpu chart

If is trying to download like 200k+ files then its prob something wrong.

hmm interesting PassMark chart shows the gtx580m way better than 660m even the 670mx, hopefully its a typo
Higher model# does not always equate to better performance. Its a gotcha type thing that fools avg consumers.
xXx
First number designate the generation of the GPU. Changes in architecture design of the chip etc.
xXx
Second number shows the range or class within it’s generation. 7-9 high end , 4-6 mainstream, 1-3 budget low end
Then there are postfix and prefix tags like GT, GTX, GS, GSO. Gets confusing. Read this for more info
Usually each new generation bumps up the performance a little shifting the range/class up a notch. So a GTX480 would be about the same as GTX570.
So a GTX 480 is about the same as a GTX 660, since its two generation behind and two class behind which makes sense. The advantage a 660 would have over the 480 then would be heat&power consumption are less.
Now passmark is a single benchmark and a synthetic one. It gives a good rough approximation of performance, but there will be variations. Depending on manufacturer of the GPU, it could be overclocked or offer more memory etc. Each card would then perform differently depending on what application or game it runs.

Nope. probably only on all low settings =]

! thanks for the link this is pretty much what I’ve been look for. Btw, if I were aiming for 3k on the GPU where does this put the gw2 settings on?
probably mostly high settings

I was very wrong about my previous stats, that would be my laptop. My desktop is at a much lower point in it’s life. Throwing up some pictures of a CPU-Z scan now.
I have a Q6600 3.2OC system and it is very playable at 30-60fps for PVE content. Running around LA it gets 20-30fps. It just won’t be able to handle WvW smoothly. If you don’t want to build an entire new desktop, your Q8200 should do fine if you get a better video card. The 9400GT is very low end, actually its a bit below minimum requirement of HD 3000. Get a ~$70 card like radeon 7770 or something.

FX-8350 is a pretty good cpu, its priced close to the i5-3570K and performance is close too. Some games/apps the 8350 falls behind while other games its on par or better.
If someone already has a mobo that can support the 8350 then its the logical choice to upgrade. If someone is planning to build from scratch intel might be better overall. Only large difference I see is power consumption where intel does very well, for some it might not matter, but it can add up over time in places where electricity is expensive.

@Iokau, do you have turbo or overclock settings on your CPU?
Yes, I have it overclocked to 5.0. Turbo is off, though.
Try to run it at stock and not overclocked. c000001d seems to be related to overclocking stability.
btw: 5.0ghz for intel cpu? thats mighty high and hot isn’t it? what cpu would that be?

Try stress testing your system. Run prime95/OCCT/furmarks and whatever else you have all at once to put as much load on the system. Leave it for a bit and watch the temps. See if your computer shuts down.

Nvidia driver 310.70 just got released out of beta.
Updating to it will cause c0000005 RTSSHooks.dll crashes when MSI Afterburner v2.3.0 Overlay is enabled prior to loading gw2 map.
Work around is to disable overlay prior to entering gw2 (you can enable it back after loading in) or Enable “compatibility with modified Direct 3D runtime libraries” with the OSD server properties.

IMO, its bit of both yours and Anet. You built a system designed for another purpose which was 3d rendering and using it part time for gaming which most games don’t fully utilize 4+ cores.
Anet could have rebuilt a new engine that maybe utilized cores more efficiently but cost might be exponential.
But, you don’t have to downgrade to get better performance for both GW2 and 3d rendering. i7-3770k or i7-3970x for 6cores.
