The OP is not telling you how to play, he’s telling you how you should play for a better community. You’re still free to agree or not. Learn the difference !
I understand the message behind OP – but it all boils down to one thing: OP’s trying to dictate players what to do.
And yes, we’re free to agree or not, just as we’re free to bring only level 80s. In short, it makes no sense to point this and campaign for it. Level 80s will be faster than lower levels if skills and experiences for the group are the same.
This is NOT JUST about me, this is for everyone.
Do NOT tell people to change the way they form their OWN group. If you want to have non-80s, fine. Form YOUR OWN group.
Their group, their rules.
I did not see the memo that I “need” to craft…. Can I see yours?
You might be better off asking in the ranger forum.
In PvE full bezerker stats (power, precision and critical damage) is definitely an option. You’d probably want to use axes or sword/warhorn to go with it. Alternatively you could add some condition damage and use a short bow or sword/dagger or sword/torch.
In dungeons you definitely don’t want to use a longbow because it’s very hard to get far enough back to get the full damage from it, and if you can’t do that then you’re better off using something else instead.
And using LB+Bear will get you hated by the entire group. lol
Yeah probably. I use a longbow in general PvE and I sometimes forget to switch before entering the dungeon (I always switch before we start, but sometimes inside the instance). I always worry that one day someone is going to see the longbow and kick me before I have time to switch it. (Although I probably wouldn’t want to be in a group with someone like that anyway.)
I don’t think there’s actually anything wrong with using a bear in dungeons, other than they don’t fit the ‘everything DPS’ meta. But longbow/bear rangers just have a bad reputation at this point.
(Luckily I prefer cats and moas anyway.)
Yeah because as you mentioned, bears has bad dps. Felines on the other hand have great dps.
Using LB tends to be bad (as with any other ranged weapon, regardless of class) because it sometimes pulls boss away from a wall/corner – reducing the entire group’s dps as they would have to chase boss away again. That and most range weapons have lower dps compared to melee… so…
If you don’t enjoy stacking, then don’t stack?
Try that in a pug in any dungeon. See what happens. Go do AC at the spider queen. Go do the weapon test fractal. Actually play the game to know what people are talking about.
Create your own group and state you don’t want to stack. The people saying lol yeah here would join you.
It does not work. Games are about overcoming challenges, and stacking overcomes challenges. For the same reason no one is going to play without any traits because they want content to be more challenging, they are going to stack even if they don’t like stacking. Threads like these are not about pressuring players out of strategies that work, but about reaching to the devs, because it is their design and the blame lies solely with them. Stacking is stupid and boring and it’s a shame that it’s so effective.
There are more than 5 people in the forum that is against stacking. Sure you can form your own group in-game…
If you see someone support this, their usernames are on the right side, add them, form a schedule, form a group.
If there’s a will, there’s a way.
How well does your build run the game, knives?
Max settings. Sometimes a bit laggy on full zerg WvWvW and Temples, but smooth most of the times.
This can run BF3/Crysis 3 at Ultra too.
Intel i5 quad core
Asus (forgot the model) motherboard.
Gskill Ares 16gb ddr3 RAM
Nvidia GTX560 1gb video card
650gb Western Digital Caviar Black HDD (I have other HDDs but this is where games are in…)
Windows 8 64bit
Razer Lycosa Mirror Keyboard
Razer Naga Epic mouse (broken key, doubleclicks most of the time)
Samsung 23.5" LED (non-touch)
Altec Lansing Octane 8 speakers
Samsung DVD Reader/Writer
Zumax 700w Modular PSU
Future planned upgrades:
2x 128mb SSD
Mouse. Probably Roccat.
Keyboard. Probably Roccat.
Motherboard. Must support SIi
2 new video cards. Always Nvidia. For sli.
Thermaltake/Coolermaster liquid cooling.

Ah. Found Brasil’s guide. This inspired me to use Ranger again…
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/84268-the-perfect-dps-ranger-guide-for-real/
Why “kill” the only fun and relaxing activity in this game? You think everyone wants hard mode content with brainstorming on strategies and attack plans? No sorry.
Fun?
Relaxing?
You must be playing a different game than me. xD Champ farming is:
- mindless
- boring
- frustrating
- stressfulHeadache hits from thinking too long of champ farming
We must be playing a different game because we don’t share the same feelings. Dat logic.
lol
Sarcasm aside, different players, different mindset. If I’m on the mood, I find the champ trains fun. Gives me stuff/money. Usually, 1 hour later, I am bored to death. I get off the train.
I crash very rarely, even though I lag. I don’t have a top notch PC, infact I am using a laptop.
There got to be a problem somewhere, but if it is really from Anet, why does it only affect some? If it is not the PC of the individual, what is it?
I am asking cause I am absolutely blank here.
I’m also playing on a laptop of average quality at best, and the game is stable.
There are so many different configurations – Mac or PC (running Windows/Linux) with different amounts of memory, different video cards, etc. Are the drivers up to date? Has the hard drive been defragged lately? Are there any corrupted files? What programs run in the background?
There are many things that can affect the performance of a program, it’s easy to point the finger at the devs and say “fix it!” but when they can’t duplicate the problem they can’t find a solution. It’s possible there could be an obscure bug that affects a particular video card or something, but most of the time the problem lies with the player’s computer, particularly when it’s something that is not happening to other people.
The devs’ jobs depend on people being able to play the game – no players, no job. So of course they take game-breaking bugs seriously, but when it’s an individual problem instead of a system-wide crash there’s not much they can do.
This is true.
I’m a programmer by profession and it’s really hard to fix something you can’t replicate. Skimming through the entire block of code may or may not work but it consumes tons of time.
Most of the times, the problem lies with the client, especially if the majority doesn’t experience it. Again, “most of the times” – not “always”.
I’m all for diversity builds as I’m getting tired of all zerk toons. lol

My Ranger wears Zerk all the way from top to bottom…
I use Sword/Dagger and Longbow for weapons
People…

As a fellow working individual, I’d say, “you can’t have the best of both worlds”.
I want ascended, but I realize it will take longer than usual players – and I have come to deal with that situation, since, I have other priorities..
low-levelled, mostly alone. Once I get it to 80, back to socialize..
Cool, but I’m dying more than I should
I dunno how to mesmer :|
I must have been asleep/afk when the rest of my race is complaining. :|
ah here we go again.
I’ll get popcorn and hit F5 every few minutes…
Weekdays:
→ Do dailies (takes more or less 30mins)
→ Gain atleast 1 level on alt (optional)
→ Farm FG (using whatever 80’s parked there)/Queensdale (using alt) champs for 30mins-1hr
Weekends:
→ Do WvWvW if there are people/good commander/s (optional)
→ Dailies
→ Farm champ on FG
→ Run 1-2 dungeons
→ Join guild on guild missions/rush/bounty
As someone who doesn’t main both classes, I’ll choose Ranger – simply because it’s underdog.
I leveled an alt in cooking from 0-400 a few days ago (using the guide Lexy linked). I already had a lot of the low level materials, but had to buy all the higher level stuff. It cost me about 3-4 gold.
what level did you start and how many levels gained on 1-400 of cooking?
Cooking + Jewelry = cheapest, right?
Hi!
I’ve been working on my mesmer, but since it’s my 5th toon, I’m becoming reeeaal bored. I haven’t tried getting to 80 via crafting, just wondering how much will it cost to do so?
My mesmer is already level 38 atm, planning to stop at 40 and craft all the way..
Any ideas? And guide/s?
Champ farm. Boring but effective.
Ori farm for extra $$$ or when you’re lazy to do champ farm.
Dungeon run for another extra $$$
And you cheated, congrats, you must be really proud -_-
Next time you wanna brag or compare the “Legendary Defender of Ascalon” with your cheap “Shameful Defender of Shaemoor”, try to doing without cheating.
Not that it really matters -your time, not mine- but still…
What part of it the OP cheated?
But yeah maybe I didn’t read everything you said aswell so it’s on both of us…
Sorry.
I’ll just go ahead and play the game because this is evidently the way to find out for myself… As for In-Game naming… I’ll just do something like… Tomer(my name) ’Class’s name’ . That way I don’t need to re-think unique stuff if I wanna play something else. Thanks for the comment. I guess this is better then chewing on the subject. I’ll go ahead and pull an all-nighter today playing a Warrior.
Last thing:
I chose a server which has Medium popularity becasue I assume this means no lag for me.
Will it it be better to make my characters in one that are more populated?
I really just want the best experience.
Go to a populated one, like Tarnished Coast. Depending on when you play (timezone-wise) and where you are in-game, some servers display “High” and yet you feel alone. cough Borlis Pass cough
Tarnished Coast.
Seems like the champ train runs 24/7 here…
While I get the point that most b-e-a-utiful things are hard to get….
…I personally don’t see the “need” for grind. People grind for what they “want”, not what they “need”.
Which is the whole game. We don’t “need” to play it after all, only “want” it.
I don’t think you understand the point. You’re comparing it on a different context.
I’m talking about the content of the game and you’re talking about what we do iRL.
No, it’s you that don’t understand that the “want, not need” argument is absurd. If you can argue, for example, that BiS gear is “not needed”, then you can make the same argument against everything else in this game. There are people that do dungeons naked after all, so it is possible!
There’s nothing in this game we need to grind, because there’s nothing in this game that we need. Only things we want.
O’rly?
Please show me how 90% players faceroll 90% of the content using whites/naked…
Doing content is one thing, facerolling content is another. Gears help in faceroll, ugly gears are enough provided they have good stats.
There are certainly things you “need”. Skins, on the other hand, you “want”.
PS:
For the BiS, I already stated my disapprovement on Ascended, also said that stat-wise, there’s not much advantage.
And I’m exaggerating when I say facerolling, but you get the point (I hope)
While I get the point that most b-e-a-utiful things are hard to get….
…I personally don’t see the “need” for grind. People grind for what they “want”, not what they “need”.

I’m talking about the content of the game and you’re talking about what we do iRL.
The biggest problem with that quote is that it’s usually repeated out of context.
This.
When people hear “no grind” – they tend to ignore the rest, then QQ about it later. People tend to hear what they want to hear.
And yes, compared to other MMO, GW2 is easymode.
While I get the point that most b-e-a-utiful things are hard to get….
For example? 90% of the beautiful things you just need to buy in game store. Things from the dungeons just require yout to pass this dungeon ~25 times (“you do not have to grind the same dungeon over and over again to get something from there” © 3). Legendary weapon? Simple requires a huge infusion of money and time. I crafted and sold 17 legendarys at the time). I do not see any particular difficulty. Just… grind.
…I personally don’t see the “need” for grind. People grind for what they “want”, not what they “need”.
People can be competitive without spending too much time farming. Your toon will be ugly as hell (which is still subjective), sure, but you’re competitive – your stat isn’t as far as the one on ascended.Part of the truth, but the whole thought of my post just about it. Just a change of priorities. Instead grind something that improves your character, you just grind cosmetics. The bottom line is that this is not enough. Everything should be “decorated” differently. Give players the feeling that they grind for improve of account and not the skins that they do not need.
So unless there is a required fashion show in-game, I believe nothing is “requiring” us to grind.
The point is this. However, it does not work. Most mmo players tend to get everything possible in game. So they feel the game progress. The argument “it’s just a decoration, you do not need it in fact” does not work here. Permanent wild gem price increase proves it. Players do not like it when they haven’t got something that other player have. They kept the whole economy of the game. They must be considered. People who really believe in the uselessness of grind in this game – just tens of the thousands.
Hence, I said “wants” not “needs”.
Technically, you do not need those shiny, flashy gears. You can live with the basic exotic. Heck, you can do almost all content using rares.
But people “want” those – whatever their reasons are. I believe ANet said grinding is not required because we will have equal power base(or close to, incase of Ascended, yeah, ANet messed with these). They did not mention anything about skins (Please, correct me if I’m wrong and put a reliable link which says so otherwise).
To sum it up, point is, those grindy things are “wants” not “needs”. We (yes, including me) are the ones creating our own dilemma.
PS:
I am against ascended because it’s a form of vertical progression, but it’s there, so I’ll just deal with it. Stat-wise, it’s not that huge increase for me.
While I get the point that most b-e-a-utiful things are hard to get….
…I personally don’t see the “need” for grind. People grind for what they “want”, not what they “need”.
People can be competitive without spending too much time farming. Your toon will be ugly as hell (which is still subjective), sure, but you’re competitive – your stat isn’t as far as the one on ascended.

Hey guys!
Anyone knows an effective PvE/non-fractal dungeon build for Ranger?
I prefer melee if there’s any…
I am still waiting on a response on what I need to buy to win…
So, I thought Id post this just to gauge whether other people feel the same…
I struggle with my female ranger to find any tops which aren’t in coat form. I don’t want to look at a massive sheet of fabric when running about.
So I the same as a lot of others now wear “Aidens Coat”. And other than this the only other separate top I can think of is the “Krytan Jerkin” available from the gem store.
Personally I would like A-net to add more short tops to the Medium Armour selection. What do you think?
My only response would be: Yes, absolutely yes.
Someone said GW2 is becoming a “Pay to win” game, and their argument is that on PvE, you win by getting flashy skins. Since ANet is releasing new skins on TP, you must save gold to convert to gems (unless you wanna spend $$$) to buy those “winning” skins.
Therefore, gold = winning.
:)
Events… Hearts…
I hope they make a glassy Claw of Jormag… :|
Please tell me what should I buy to “win”…
I have ran into guild-majority party and has never been kicked so far (except Arah. I usually run with my guild on it). Lucky me, I guess.
I run Hammer/Staff 0/0/30/20/20 AH on my Guard, guess I’ll never see 90% of people posting in this thread in-game. lol
No one has ever kicked me so far.
They don’t know what you are. You must either be very sneaky, or run with some very…puggy PuGs :P
Seriously though, if I have another Guard in my party, I try to watch for a couple of things like:
-Are they refusing to use their virtues?…Ever…?
-Do they camp 1 weapon for the entire fractal/dungeon? Is it staff? (not that the staff doesn’t have its uses)
-Are they throwing up spirit weapons?
-Do they insist on scepter near 100% uptime?
-Do they pop shouts to heal themselves with AH instead of when most beneficial? Why do I notice this stuff? Well, I’m not someone who will kick out a player unless they’re a Class A goon but often these folks don’t know that they’re taking away from the team effort. Surprisingly, they usually listen and turn around to help out a lot more for the rest of the encounter.
tl;dr- keep an eye out on your team and offer advice politely on more effective play if they’re running some rubber duck builds
True. Either they don’t know what build I’m running or they just don’t care, but my point is, it didn’t delay the group by a big margin.
Sure, it’s not the worse build out there, but I think we should stop looking at the completion time and just enjoy. If someone is being sucky, well, like this person said, give advice. Most people I took to AC (waay before it was revamped) listened – and I believe most people will listen.
But that’s just me. I have yet to be kicked to any dungeon (I don’t run FoTM though – I don’t have the concentration required to continuously run 4 instances :| )
Or farm champs for gold.
Please tell me what should I buy to “win”…
I run Hammer/Staff 0/0/30/20/20 AH on my Guard, guess I’ll never see 90% of people posting in this thread in-game. lol

Yeah maybe but you just slow down the run
Still no one kicked me. No one complained, PUG or guild. “I” slowed them, what? 1 minute or less for CoF and HotW? A few minutes on Arah and AC? Oh wait, maybe they carried me? Oh yes! Me swinging that hammer does absolutely no damage. Me giving Virtue 1 adds 1 damage. I did NOTHING for the group.
Because everytime we run a dungeon, we have this mindset. Finish early – wait, no… It’s finish this dungeon on X time – if we can’t, it’s the doom of mankind.
Curse the one Necro who joined us. Kitten that warrior, who despite the last man standing if we wipe, uses the 5 signet. It’s always their fault, right? Oh we wiped because that Ranger would not pop the Healing Spring. We took 1 minute more on Lupi because that Warrior would not share buffs.
I am not forcing this “bad build” – I’m just saying a few minutes late than the average run time is negligible – unless you’re dying and only have few moments to live.. This is of course, in my point of view.
PS:
And yes, I know how to play DPS guardian. I just cycle through common builds to see people’s reaction. Was a bit disappointed in-game, here in the forums, I saw what I wanted to see. Cheers!
