WvW / PVP ONLY

anet removing good things
will this help the game??This will help WvW but will hurt all the PvE players who used WvW for quick crafting so we could return to PvE in the same place we left it.
Exactly……WVW is for WVW players, not a “quick crafting” stop for PVE players.
So basically, not having the 2 or 3 players we used to see around the crafting stations is gonna fix the queue issue? How exactly?
It is going to help solve the population balancing issues. This was not just about Queues, it was throwing off the numbers they used to determine which servers should be linked, and how much transfer costs to the server should be. The server that had the more players doing this, the more unbalanced their population would be. They do not determine population by the 3 you see there at a time, but over a longer period of time so all of the people who used them over that period of time. Even if it is 50 on a server doing it, that is 50 players offsetting the numbers.
Except there are in your example 50 players on every server. anet is not going to mass reduce the gem transfer costs – its too much of a money maker for them so if every server goes down by 50, then the limits as to what makes a “high” server gets reduced by 50 ie no change.
It wouldn’t be 50 players on every server, the more PvE players on that server, the more people that will be doing it. That was gauging the lower tier servers. There are FAR more on higher tiers and servers that are known for large PvE populations. It isn’t even close to even numbers per server. My example is for one server. It would be more like : 50, 357, 32. 679…. 9789 <~~~ BG Hahaha!
The point is it isn’t even numbers, never will be even numbers and tbh I think removing dailies, farming nodes and Gift of battle from WvW would be an excellent idea as well to really get a much more accurate balance. They need to find better ways to bring in WvW players than treating them like mules chasing a carrot stick. If they don’t want to play WvW, forcing them to just to get what they need to do something else isn’t going to help them or anyone else. WvW players need more WvW players, not people who hate to be there at all.
WvW should be treated like a large scale PvP Mode.. like players asked for in the first place. Anet once told us they were going to give us that.. Many are still waiting.
They can add this junk to the PvP lobby, where it doesn’t affect WvW populations at all and PvE players who don’t want to lose their place on map can pop in there just as easy and get their stuff done.

How would a mixed bls setup of 2 ABLS and 1 DBL affect the population?
Because to have a good competitive environment, all sides need to have an equal playing field, literally. Football fields are equal on both sides of the 50 yard line are they not? I can’t think of a single sport that has unequal courts, fields, or lanes. As such, people that play WvW as a competitive game mode will leave.
It’s funny to sad how much WvW is becoming EotM. In EotM there’s two types of play, K-Training or Bag Farming. Now in WvW it’s basically coming down to people wanting to full blown either K-Training or Bag Farming too. Long live EotM 2.0
Football fields aren’t equal say in the middle of winter when one is covered by snow and others aren’t. The mode is very unequal in other ways. If the DBL and a new future home BL conformed to norms established by the ABL, eg northern towers able to treb garri then having different BLs would be fine IMO.
That is why more and more stadiums are going indoors to solve that problem and building domes…
Think of it like a basketball court.
Prove this “more and more stadiums are going indoors to solve that problem and building domes.” There have been or will be a total of three new domed stadiums in pro football, and all three are replacing existing or recently demolished domes in Atlanta, Minnesota and Los Angeles (the stadium in LA replacing the Rams’ previous domes stadium in St. Louis.). And open air baseball parks have been preferred in most recent stadiums that hadn’t had domes in the past and even these are mostly being replaced with retractable roof stadiums to avoid rain delays and improve attendance – I don’t know of a single instance where the purpose was to standardize the field of play, especially since none of the changes included standardizing the dimensions of the field. And in some cases, the domes themselves make fielding fly balls more difficult or easier because of differences in coloring and lighting.
I am in Dallas, everything gets domed here. DOMES EVERYWHERE!
It is the largest domed stadium in the world and has the world’s largest column-free interior
http://twistedsifter.com/2009/09/new-dallas-cowboys-stadium/
How can you leave out the largest domed stadium?
Then of course there is the Astrodome and Alamodome in Texas and then all of these elsewhere:

A better system should be in place for voters. Only people that actually play wvw should be able to vote. Sitting here watching the chances of rotations going up and up…
There are too many people with the attitude of “Oh I might play wvw this year, when I do I want to see new map.”.. Some of us play wvw full time and getting it ruined by people like this is really disgusting.
The way they email the other surveys to past and present players would do the trick. They do not email those surveys to all players. For WvW surveys, they can make sure they only email WvW players with a minimum number dolyak kills would do it, since there are no dolyaks in EotM to bump up ranks. XD
Dolyaks will save WvW! lol
(edited by lil devils x.6071)
This is laughable. Queue times aren’t going to get any better, there still going to be terrible those few hours after reset, and basically only then. And the down times on WvW are gonna get worse because less people are going to be randomly on to hear calls for help to stop roamers from slowly taking everything down. Have fun logging on and finding your entire map was taken over last night, yet again because of a pack of roamers. This is just sticking another nail in the coffin for WvW.
The only reason I gave WvW a try initially was because I spent so much time jumping there to unload my inventory etc. Have fun trying to recruit new players now that there’s no reason for them to even visit it. All the while Anet gets to high five themselves for getting people to burn more silver WP everywhere.
HotM lobby area has a bank to unload, if they add crafting tables there, would work the same as WvW without altering the WvW population numbers that are used to determine server transfer costs and which servers are linked.
Players can conveniently go to lions arch or home city for all their crafting needs…
Not if they want to remain in their current location, going to WvW was the only way to craft and stay where you were.
The logical solution would be to put crafting stations in guild halls, but god forbid guild halls actually be useful for anything apparently.
Putting them in the HotM lobby area would give access to all guilds no matter how big or small and have the same affect without altering WvW server population.

Pls give us the stations back. We have and had never problems with ppl crafting at these stations and queue times on our server. Why not start a new survey for that? I think its just a small amount of ppl complaining about 2 ppl staying there. The big problem are ppl afking at the spawn when we really have a queue.
It isn’t just about Queues though. It adds to the numbers that determine which servers are linked and how much it costs to transfer to your server.

Yea they want somewhere more convenient. Most don’t go to LA anymore since they made it a pain to access everything. It was actually better while it was blown up. haha!

They already stated that it was adding to the WvW population. This causes map queues, increased server transfer costs and offsets which servers are linked together.

The sheer number of players complaining about removing them already only goes to show how badly this was needed.
- Crafters add to the actual WvW population that is used to determine transfer costs to that sever as well as who they are merged with.
Can even imagine for a minute that a lot of people who are complaining are WvW players and will be counted anyway in the actual WvW population ?
Those are already counted, however, we have already had repeated players come on this very thread and say that was the only reason they came to WvW.. This solves the problem.
Why not just have a system where if you don’t participate in an event for … 10 minutes you get kicked? Rather than it be based on “are you moving”, then the people only using the crafting stations for more than 10 minutes will just get booted and queues will keep moving?
90%+ of the time there are not queues on most servers (I am not T1) so I don’t see why you have to try to patch in a pathetic fix for only T1 servers during peak hours that makes fewer people enter WvW in all other Tiers.
You know how many times I have been in WvW (with no queue) crafting and I see callouts for defends and go help? It happens a lot and now it’s gone.
Are you suggesting they kick scouts in towers? YIKES.
I would rather keep our scouts and kick inactive players from the WvW count all together. They just Disconnect WvW from PvE and players lose WvW server and not counted as part of population if they dont play in WvW enough and have to rejoin a WvW server when they want to play WvW again If it is full then, at least it will be full of WvW players.
They also need to add server wide chat and have cities server based to be able to receive recruitment and call outs.

Good God no thanks you can keep them. We prefer to maintain a high KDR pls thanks.
LOL Bubba! You guys have to be able to take a day off now and then.. XD
Could we get a permanent bank NPC in the starting area for each side, then?
It is already there. Drop down menu the guild registrar to vault..
The sheer number of players complaining about removing them already only goes to show how badly this was needed.
Add crafting tables to HotM so they can get there just as easily without interfering with server populations.
I hope PvE players that were only coming to WvW to bank know they can do so just as easily by entering heart of the mists without interrupting the PvP matches in progress. :p
As far was I was aware the guild registrar already had a drop down bank access option.
The guild registrar allows access to guild banks, not account banks which is what the craft tables were also useful for aside from crafting. The only other way to get access to the bank was to get a t3 keep. But luckily now we will have an always accessible bank vendor.
I wonder if it would be acceptable to put crafting tables in the HoTM lobby as a compromise.
I have been using the guild registrar to access MY bank for a LOOONG time now. Did they change it? You just select the drop down menu to vault and there it is. Doh! Ninja’d over and over and over again. XD
I agree adding crafting to HotM would help solve the problem.

It’s interesting to learn that they made the change based on some data, but I can’t help but wonder if the data was granular enough. McKenna states that queue times are longer, and their data shows that there are people spending a (presumably) significant time crafting. But are those people crafting during queued times?
I realize it’s anecdotal, but having played WvW pretty much daily since launch I have some frame of reference. People don’t sit in a queue, long or short, to go craft. You go there for convenience, and it’s not convenient if you have to wait 15 minutes to get in. And if it’s not queued, why do you care what other people are doing on the map? They’re not preventing anyone from doing anything and may rally to help when they otherwise would never know.
The only potentially affected situation is when you have a zerg on another map AND something on your home is attacked that requires a response AND the full zerg can’t get in AND the other team has a map queue that results in a numbers situation in their favor and STILL that means the opponent outplayed you past your defenses. I really can’t see that these crafting squatters (who, again, I rarely see more than 1 or 2, and often none, in T1) really have as much of an impact on the matches as some people think.
Players coming in to WvW affect the total WvW population cap, throwing the WvW population off balance. That data is what is used to determine:

Players should be in WvW to play WvW and not for crafting, farming or afking. Players coming to do other things than play WvW are adding to servers population preventing them from actually obtaining WvW players to compete. I not only think they should have removed crafting stations, but also farming nodes, Gift of Battle reward track, Mystic forge, and anything else that brings players in to do things other than play WvW.
Instead, they should make a server wide chat and make some cities server based, especially lions arch so players have some place to recruit and bring players into WvW to play WvW for the right reasons. WvW needs players coming in to actually play WvW not farm and craft.
Only players who know that WvW is srs bizniz may play WvW! :P
If there wasn’t a map cap and WvW server population cap I could care less. The problem is the number of players going in to WvW is actually used against the server to determine whether or not they are full, how high their transfer fees are and who they are paired up with. When there are Queues, players who will actually benefit the team are prevented from playing by those that are just there to farm or craft. The only reason many WvW players play GW2 is just to play WvW so they are not doing anything in game besides sitting there waiting to get in. If they are unable get in to play WvW with their friends, family and guildies, they go play something else instead running them off from the game all together. For every person taking up a place on the map not playing WvW and helping their team, you have a player who wants to who will leave the game getting bored of waiting to play.

dont want them at all, i came back to the game when u removed them and now your adding this crap again
.
just dont do it…
vote was last week – that ship has sailed (deleting dbl)
No ship has sailed. If massive amounts of players leave the game over it again, they will have to rethink that idea or let the game die. The end goal should be to increase population, player satisfaction and game longevity. If an update deceases population, player satisfaction and game longevity, they have to rethink it or let the game mode die.
Not sure what posts/threads have been hijacked by higher tier players, or that insults are useful at all in any post, but you do realize that most = most players in the game and that would mean the most players in the game are in fact on the most populated servers, and the most populated servers are in the higher tiers so the higher tier servers players are actually the most people here. You will see most players here as being from more populated servers due to that being where most of the players in the game actually are.
I just find it hilarious Anet opened the T1 servers… its like they want to encourage people to stack those servers…
Last time I faced TC they already blobed everything to death, but hey.. I guess T2/3 servers actually have more ppl huh. Who knew…..They actually might, because of server linking.
Which is the whole point of server linking.
it is. linked servers have a cap 1/2 of un-linked servers….
But this is exactly the problem… this way T1 servers will only pull further ahead in terms of population from all the other servers…
not arguing it is the way it should be, it is just the way it seems to be.
Yea.. they really need to fix that. It isn’t fair to any of the servers to make is so none of them are able to compete. At this age of the game, there are already enough obstacles to make it hard on servers to rebuild to be competitive.
By making that more difficult, all they are doing is ensuring there are no balanced matchups at all. Never having a chance to improve your situation and forcing unbalanced matchups reduce player satisfaction and make players leave the game much faster.
By jacked up transfer costs they are telling players that "if they want to win, don’t bother trying to improve your own server to make it able to compete, because they won’t allow that to happen. Instead find a way to get on an already stacked server by any means necessary. "It is THIS message due to server transfer costs being too high to try and bring enough groups to your server to be able to compete with the larger servers that make people transfer off their servers or just give up and leave the game all together.
( B4 someone says " transfer to a lower pop server" that defeats the purpose of wanting to try and move up, not down. If you want to actually be able to compete in their higher tiers, you need MANY more people to do that.)
* I don’t even think the low pop servers should be open anymore unless they want to remove them from WvW all together and make them goof off zones where they don’t keep score for those players who dont want people on their maps.
How about something crazier, lose some of your SEA so you won’t be full?
It’s always something negative with you isn’kitten Break this community, break that World, all you want to do is break everything other than your own. How very non awesome of you friend.
Negative? Nah, I’m being extremely objective. If you lose one map queue of casual SEA, you can fill up your NA with 1 additional map queue. It is completely logical.
So what you expect JQ to force a sea guild to move off it then wait for at least a month and try to recruit more NA? Do you not see how unreasonable that is? We love our sea guilds on JQ.
You can send FOO over to Mag anytime. We love them LONG time. XD
I accidentally got one the other day. I don’t get it? Whats the big deal? PvE nerds (I swear i mean nerds in a good way) super spoiled ? Don’t like doing part of the game you hate to excel at another? Bababababalance
I am a PvP nerd that doesn’t want to go to PvE, that is how it SHOULD be. In GW1, the thing that set it apart from most games at the time was you could go to PvP without ever having to step foot in PvE. You could start out with a max level Toon and earn everything you needed for PvP just by playing PvP. PvE players could earn everything they needed for PvE in PvE.
That was one of the things players liked about GW1, and Anet received tons of praise in the gaming community for that very thing. Why screw over that base now instead of let players play how they enjoy playing? But Oh yea.. those guys from Anet that started it all are gone and now we have these other guys that do not seem to understand that was Guild wars thing that made them stand out from the rest at the time. I would have never continued to play GW1 if they had made me PvE grind. I would rather there be no NPC’s in the game at all.

What’s so hard to understand about “WE ALREADY DID ALL THAT ALREADY”? WE EARNED IT ALREADY"?
If I want more Gifts of Battle, then I will play MORE WvW without problem. If you earned it already, why don’t you have it? I am not sure if you’re angry or agreeing that the change they made is fine… Very confusing post lol.
Seriously, if you are collecting components to make a Legendary Weapon, are you going to fill your storage with Gifts of Battle when you can buy them anytime? No.
They never even said when WvW was going to leave Beta, even if you did somehow catch the initial comment in the massive patch note’s walls of text.
If you think about it, nobody should support the elimination of WvW rewards hidden in selective communication.
No, players should not be expected to read patch notes for a game. Most games do not go around taking things away all the time for no reason, so most players would not think they have to. This is Anets fault for taking things away unnecessarily to begin with. Again back to the basics of any update. If it does not :
1) Increase game population
2)increase player satisfaction
3)Increase game longevity
it does not need to be added to the game. That is the problem with the updates they are doing. Whoever at Anet is going " why don’t we take this out and do this with it instead" IS the problem here. ANET DEV DOING THAT YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. YES WE ARE TALKING TO YOU. They are not using the guidelines above and are decreasing payer satisfaction, thus game longevity by their actions.
No one is going to buy Guild Wars2 just because they changed the gift of battle vendor, but players becoming dissatisfied with GW2 due to it and downgrading their view of the game over time decreasing their longevity to keep playing will increase by making them reearn what they already had will increase instead .
This is all on Anet, if they want people to keep playing their game instead of just adding on more and more negative until it gets to the point of being that one thing, that last straw that makes them say ," Never mind I would rather play something I am having fun playing instead." They will stop doing this nonsense and start making sure they ask themselves the questions above before doing anything.
They were not even “a dding a new reward track” they took something players already earned and were forcing them to earn it again. They didn’t actually give them new content. Wouldn’t if have been nicer if they had given us new WvW skins/ weapons in a reward track instead, ACTUAL new content instead of just giving us what we already had , but making it worse?
(edited by lil devils x.6071)
If you went to earn the badges specifically to get the gift of battle, why not get it WHEN you finished getting them? It sounds to me like you weren’t done getting them and were partially there. Or didn’t check the NPC before farming the badges then realized you failed at life.
Either way, not ANETs fault. Read patch notes more often, there is always important stuff there.
Most people I know didn’t bother getting them at the time because that would take up another bank space and just get it when they need it. EVEN players who have made multiple Legendaries already and play WvW every day..
THIS is the problem when devs take things away unnecessarily. IF they focused on adding more content instead of punishing players by taking away what they already earned, they would improve the game rather than make people angry and reduce player satisfaction. There was no reason what so ever for them to do that. They took away everything guilds earned and made it impossible for many small guilds to earn them back when they changed the guild upgrade system as well.
Many players have a ton of badges just sitting there and hold on to them until they manage to ever get to the point of making a legendary, not that they haven’t earned enough.
They already have earned all the badges it takes to get the gift of battle… but then they changed it before they could actually get it from the vendor. If they had gotten it before the change they would not be having to be there are all to earn it again.
They are making those who already earned all the badges to get the gift of battle and were working on the other things needed for their legendary because they knew they could just go pick that up when they needed it, have to earn it all over again. Those who already went to the vendor before the change don’t have to worry about that now.
The biggest problem with wvw right now is the return to the Alpine BLs. They’re too small and make blobbing almost a must.
From the release of HoT, until the return of ABLs, YB won almost every matchup. Not because of siege humping or all of the other things people are whining about, but because it took a heck of a lot longer for those 50 to 60 person blobs to respond and one-spam everything in their path.
If you want to make wvw more competitive, go back to DBLs, or put some more space in ABLs.
People want 15 to 30 person fights, not having their group of 20 constantly mowed down by 40 or 50 person blobs.
Hell, add in a diminished returns setup so that you get less rewards if there are more than 30 allies in a 2500 range, or something.
Kill the blobs and you’ll save WvW.
Sure, kill the fun of the largest group of players in the game and that will save it, right? How about how being dead wrong on the subject? WvW populations tanked after DBL was released. So that’s certainly not saying much for the DBL. Also, who are “these people” that want the 15-20 man fights? Many of us are in WvW for LARGE SCALE COMBAT. 15-20 is not large scale at all.
I think people tend to forget that the blobs are in fact the majority of the players in the game all having fun together in the way they enjoy and that removing them from the game means to run off the majority of the players in the game. So what they are actually saying is " run off the majority of the players from the game and this will somehow make it better?" LOL
In order to have a blob you have to have A LOT of players. Removing that means removing A LOT of players. DOH! they don’t think about it like that..
The biggest problem with wvw right now is the return to the Alpine BLs.
Kill the blobs and you’ll save WvW.
Blobs = the majority of the players in the game having fun the way they enjoy. That is what you are proposing they kill. Players returned to the ABL because they enjoyed playing on it. The DBl was empty because players did not enjoy playing on it. You are actually suggesting they kill the game mode.
(edited by lil devils x.6071)
You should be given an option to reset. A reset button would be very helpful to new players. That way players who do not wish to reset , do not have to, yet keeping the game new player friendly and allowing new guys that don’t have their abilities maxed and are not sure where to place them can actually put them where they need and if they make a newbie mistake can start over once they understand what they actually do. A reset button for each character would be really nice.
Often the vets who already have everything maxed take for granted if they want their beloved game mode to grow, you need to keep it a welcoming environment for new players so they can be able to enjoy, learn and help in the game too.
If you could reset it any time you wanted players would basically be more than maxed out at 100ish points. They need to use a ram, do a quick reset and max out ram mastery, need to use a ac, reset and max that out, etc.
They should just reset the points every 2 months when they reset pairings, but this should only be implemented once they have included a “fill all” option.
I am so tired of having to manually fill every line for all of my characters
I don’t see the problem with them being able to do that this age of the game. Vets already have a hand up on them for everything else, nothing is going to be harmed by a new guy having to change his points around all the time for something vets do not even think about anymore. Who cares if they can use a ram? An AC? Many already do, letting them do it just makes it a bit more balanced for new players. At least the ones who figured out that they have to set those at all since so many new players run around not even knowing how to set those points hahaha!
I say give everyone a reset button on each character that just resets that character they can use at will. I could care less if they have to fidget with it and do pain in the butt every time they want to use a piece of siege when vets don’t have to mess with it at all anymore. I just think that makes the game a bit more new player friendly than it currently is. Considering the state of WvW anything to help new players get caught up, the better as far as I am concerned. WvW desperately needs new blood coming in.

I haven’t been able to get supply from either home-borderland citadel (my server was a “guest” server in both linkages). Because I only picked up this gamemode in the past week, I just assumed this was normal somehow and that the supply depot in the citadel was some kind of placeholder. So that’s NOT how it’s supposed to be…?
Look on your map and make sure the supply depot in Citadel is the same color as your team color that week. If it is , you should be able to get supply. If it is not, that supply is the color of the team it belongs to, telling you who is winning in EotM.
I still say ‘bull’ on this. I am in BP… when we were linked with FA I couldn’t get sups from Citadel. I actually switched servers to FA and was able to get supplies from Citadel then. When I switched back to BP I was once again unable to get supplies. We were the SAME colour. This doesn’t quite mesh with what some of you are saying.
I am not saying you don’t have a bug, you very well could have a bug caused from the world linking they need to fix. If this is happening to you, I would submit a support ticket and hopefully they will be able to correct it. I was just wanting to make sure you were the same color as the supply, as I could not get supply when it looked full once because we were green and it was red just in case that helps you.
World vs world and structured player vs player are player vs player modes… You may have missed the memo, but world vs world is modeled after realm vs realm, not arena player vs player or guild vs guild.
Last I played, WvW also did not count towards PvP achievements. According to what you are saying, we can now at least get the PvP achievements in WvW since it is a PvP mode, correct?
Yes and no.. PvP achievements are still PvP achievements and you rank up in PvP and get PvP finishers in PvP.. WvW has it’s own achievements and things you unlock with WvW ranks. Both PvP and WvW offer dungeon reward tracks though.
Ahhh ok, makes sense. Thanks for the response!
Anytime
You can still get good fights in WvW and avoid the PvE stuff and get loot and level up on the reward tracks. Many now just avoid the PvE aspects to the mode and just fight it out anyhow these days. Some servers are better than others for good fights.
I think people that didn’t play Gw1 don’t understand the difference in what is meant by “PvP” from there vs what they did with WvW so it causes confusion.

Hello! I had a quick question, and can’t seem to find much info online about this.
I have been gone for a while and am currently updating my client to join back into the fray! When I last played the game, WvW was not considered “PvP” by Arenanet. The PvP class tweaks did not affect it, the gear was not normalized so PvE gear disparities were present, and whatever gear/stats you brought with you from the PvE side of the game was all you had for WvW.
Is this still the case, or did it ever get upgraded to PvP status? I always thought this was a bit… strange, and then I heard that some WvW patches were in the works, so I wanted to see what the news was on this front.
Thanks!

It’s really super easy to gear up, so get out there champ and get your gear!
Unfortunately, the devs do not put out separate balance patches for world vs world, structured player vs player and player vs environment.
Seems like structured player vs player would be best for you, so go try that out and good luck!
I even found some nice write ups for you…

We know that is what they did, HOWEVER, that was NOT what Anet told the players who filled out the surveys at the time they were going to do. They chose to do that later, so of course players keep checking back in to see if they ever kept their word. All you are doing is saying “hey look Anet did this instead of what they originally said they were going to do.” ( Players already know that , considering that is why they left). They already know about small scale PVP, we had that already on GW1, what they said they were going to give us was large scale PvP, like we asked for. They just haven’t come through yet.
No, both you and tol don’t know.
/looks at wvw…
/looks at your post saying you didn’t get a large scale player vs player mode…
/looks back at wvw which was modeled after rvr in DAoC…
I’m sorry that large scale pvp in gw2 doesn’t meet your expectations of large scale pvp.
When Gw1 players were surveyed about Large scale PvP, we wanted Gw1 PvP on a large scale, specifically asked for massive battles in a more open world PvP setting. They chose to model it after DAoC instead later instead and then decided to add a whole crap ton of PvE to it that Gw 1 players never asked for. They used DAoC as an influence, but if you have every played DAoC, you would know there is a HUGE difference between that and GW2 WvW as well. GW2 WvW is way more PvE focused and gimmicky. GW1 combat relied more on player skill and less on PvE gimmicks.
Did you play GW 1 or fill out the surveys to understand the difference?

So we went to the FA Host at the beginning of this all. Immediately people were recognizing the ‘new’ people and welcoming us big time. I met new people, made new friends and fighting buddies and so on. Cool right? Now we’re off to another Host… but now it’s 4 servers in one. So far I see groups running separately, (calling for help when needed etc of course, but separate). So far as I’ve tried to communicate with these new people I have heard mostly… …. … So it should be interesting to see how the next while plays out. At this point it looks like most of my WvW runs, when I do them, will be mainly with my guild group since I see so many smaller factions staying mostly to themselves. Yes it’s very early in the new link-up so I hope something changes.
The problem with linking lower tier servers together vs being linked with a higher tier server is often the players that wanted a higher level of communication and organization already left the lower tier servers in search of that a long time ago and are consolidated at higher tiers. So even if you get sheer " numbers" from linking, you will not have the unity and enhanced game play that comes with the higher level organization.
Yea, because we all know that the higher tiers have much more skilled and organized wvw players.
“Unity and enhanced game play”???? I think you’re actually serious…….
/facepalm
Higher tier servers use voice CComs and have scouts on ccoms so that all maps and players can communicate with one another easily. Even if a guild is not in WvW, their leaders and commanders with CComs on can get shout outs for WvW calls if they are needed and respond accordingly. On lower servers less people use voice coms, the havoc, roamers , scouts and zergs do not communicate as much and you have more players doing their own thing without letting the other groups know what they are doing on coms.
On higher tiers the roamers, scouts, havoc, and zerglings are working together and coordinating targets and objectives from all maps, not just running around doing “whatever”. On higher tier servers, there are " blobs" that are all in the right parties, proper builds and classes to buff one another and work together as one unit rather than a group of players doing whatever they want all blobbed up together being one push wonders. The players actually switch classes and builds to what is needed, not just " i do what I wanna" attitude you get from lower tiers. They actually play as a team.
When players have tried to organize these things on lower servers, they often fail miserably and leave. So many on low servers think typemanding is actually playing the game..
Best part I read was that even if they are not in wvw they get shout outs to come help.. Reminds me of the days of pagers and important messages used to be paged with 911 at the end. Do you guys still use pagers and get pages with codes when your garri is under attack?
We use line chat and phones now, but to alert for great fights, not for Gari being under attack because people don’t care much about winning anymore :p
I go in for a bit of fun now. With this most recent re-linking there really is ZERO ownership for me in the borderlands. Since I am on a “slave” server I can’t even get supplies from Citadel!
So I will just go in with my friends and have what fun I can have when I do… that’s really all that’s left now that I have no home server to fight for. :P
Are you sure you cannot get supply? The only time you should not be able to get supply from CiItadel is if it is a different team color, meaning that it isn’t actually your supply. If your EotM team is winning you should be able to get it. Make sure the supply is the same color as your team.
Unless ANet changed something, the supply in Citadel is owned by the owner of the BL. All of us linked servers don’t own any Borderland, and hence no Citadel. The colour doesn’t matter, it’s the ownership of Citadel that matters. Even though it’s my “home” base in the BL it doesn’t mean my server owns the supplies, because it doesn’t… (like I said, unless ANet changed it in the last couple of days.)
As for team colours… of course we are the same colour as the server we are linked to… we couldn’t get into the Citadel otherwise.. :P
Yea, it was changed at some point I think, as I have seen it a different color than your team and when it is, it doesn’t belong to you. IDK why they did that.

This has to be the laziest excuse for a posting I’ve seen in a while. You are speaking ur mind for the sake of speaking ur mind. You already know the answer to ur question, and if you don’t you know nothing about the mode so why don’t you actually play it and then start making threads.
Um no, you see when Anet gave out the surveys for GW2 to GW1 players, Gw1 players overwhelmingly voted for " large scale PvP" Anet told us that is what we were actually getting. They said they heard us and were going to make it! Well then we got it and it wasn’t what they said they were going to do in the first place and players were disappointed. I am still asked by former friends from Gw1 if Anet ever came through with large scale PvP. That is actually a legitimate question by many who were promised this long ago, who come and check periodically still in hopes it finally happened. No reason to jump on their case about it. They just get their hope up when they get news.
I’m a member of the old GW1-player crowd who was left a little confused and gets their hopes up about WvW. I was rather disappointed when it came out and was considered a PvE mode, so I keep an ear out for any news about WvW I can hear. Folks in another game started talking about “a major WvW patch”, and I thought this was the one I was waiting for. Poked around online and couldn’t find any info, soooo I figured I’d ask here.
Anyhow, thanks for the replies all! Not quite the answer I was hoping for, but glad to know for sure!
I keep telling them they need to add more PvP and less PvE, I am hopeful they started to listen somewhat. We did finally get PPK, and some class changes, but still much work is needed to be what either you or I are hoping it will be. I am not giving up yet, though. There is still hope they could move in that direction.

It is still not being treated like a proper PvP mode as it should be, though the good news is at least there is more PPK being included in the score.
How is it determined?
Seeing that YB is now “High” and other servers obviously has lesser population than YB is now “Very High”
MAG can Just blame Kalkz for spawn camping those Anet devs that daringly stuck their heads out of red keep last match and provoked him to take their entire side of the map and spawn camp them…
Maybe the devs that were spawn camped said " SPAWN CAMP MEH EH?!! TAKE THAT MAG! MWAHAHA! 560 gold to get the rest of ya guild on yer server now SUCKERS!!"
Yes, I am seeing no way for this " high/ med/ very high/ full list to be accurate.
linked servers have a cap 1/2 of the non-linked is the answer I believe….
So then they should reduce the costs to reflect the actual population rather than punish lower populated servers. Raising costs on servers that are not really high just means they will never be able to get enough players to compete fairly, the whole point of balance is to try and make it more competitive.
HOWEVER, there is no way JQ should be considered full even when linked with AR lol. Have you seen them? I am not sure what they are counting for JQ, but I don’t think it is players. Dewolfe is right, they may be using node farmers against them. I really think the nodes, dailies and gift of battle farming in WVW is a really bad idea… Some servers will be all farmers b4 it is said and done as the WvW players abandon those servers in search of a real team.

Guess i’m late to the party, haven’t played wvw since shortly after the DBL were introduced so had no idea about the existence of this poll nor about the reintroduction of alpine borders.
And i suppose this also exposes a flaw in the poll they did.
Most people still following GW2 wvw were going to be people that are more favourable towards the DBLs, the people that absolutely hate those borders are long gone.So while this poll may be fair to those still playing, keeping the DBLs around is not going to help WvW regain former players.
If the borders are going to be used for weekly rotations, then in my case i might play when it’s Alpine, and i’ll sit out the weeks when it’s DBL.
If they had just emailed Past and present WvW players as they have done their other surveys that I received, you would have been notified. Many were not notified due to this. Many players are on holiday right now due to it being vacation season and will come back to find this happened without them. I am not sure who or why they decided to do this different than the surveys that have been doing since before this game was created, but in the end, player satisfaction levels and interest in the game mode are going to be the price that is paid.
How is it determined?

So wait…. JQ received the second to last place world prior to Beta. Now we’ve been paired with the actual last placed world prior to Beta. How exactly does that work out? That we have less players again after linking. Meanwhile, a couple minutes before midnight EST, and BG has 61 players in queue total across the 4 maps.
So the problem is, how is this a competitive game mode any longer? We can’t build our team up, to move up, because we’re locked. The dev’s take away numbers when they please. This is pretty much hitting “why bother” levels of care now.
btw… JQ is absolutely NOT full. That’s utter bunk! You’d have to be counting players coming in to gather nodes, spy accounts, or something. They are not in Squad, in TS, or on JQ.com. Need far more strict rule sets for what is a “WvW player”. Also need it based on hours played and not just weekend warriors that play reset and nothing else.
Yea.. there is definitely something not right here.. and No way YB has less coverage than MAG, yet it costs less to transfer to YB than Mag. IDK what they are doing, but no way JQ is full or YB should cost less to move than T3 servers. The way this is being done prevents servers from being able to compete at the same level. Every server should have equal chance of competing with BG is what would actually be fair, and they are preventing that from happening via locks and increased costs and unusual methods to determine coverage.
Can you finally completely remove ALL pve creatures from wvw. There in zero reason are them to be there I can understand the vet events like wurm, however everything else needs to be removed. They simply just get in the way, give stealth classes more of an advantage during fights they just give the other player the mobs aggro and use it to their advantage. You no longer can rally off them and they dont drop much loot.
WvW is not PvE so can we finally remove pve content. I know you cut the pve creatures number down a bit but I think most of us want to see them completely gone unless they are a event. Just distracting and pointless to have them still here in wvw maps.
I wish. TBH I would be happy if I never had to look at an NPC again. XD
I know I am in the minority on this, but I like the games where everything is done by the players.
