Wow @the new traits for Ele

in Elementalist

lorazcyk.8927

This is really worrying me, that instead of making the combat more interesting, they are making support even more passive than it is now, so all you have to worry about is damage. (Not just ele, but other professions too)

It’s already like that, they shouldn’t make it even worse. I was hoping they’d make combat more interesting but they’re going backwards.

Players should have to use their brains and decide the best time to use their skills. That’s what makes a good player. You shouldn’t just have traits that do the work for you.

Moving camera over npc: cursor jumps

You can also accidentally bring up the Hero panel if you click and drag the left mouse button over the daily achievements on the top right corner of the screen, though you were actually trying to drag the camera instead. It should only open it if you don’t drag the mouse.
This also makes the cursor jump positions, though if you use the right mouse button instead, it doesn’t jump.

See here (though that’s been fixed)

Moving camera over npc: cursor jumps

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

lorazcyk.8927

This is (sort of) similar to a bug I reported about a year ago which you fixed.

When dragging the camera, the cursor is supposed to stay in the same place it was when you first pressed the mouse button.
But sometimes, if you start with the mouse over a NPC/enemy hit-box, the cursor will move. Depending how fast you move the cursor with it over a NPC, the cursor position will jump.

Which leads to:
At an extreme, it can go all the way to the screen border, and…

  • In window mode, it will catch the border and re-size the window.
  • Also, I could swear this happens in full-screen mode, but can’t replicate it anymore: accidentally selects a target if an enemy is on the screen border where the cursor jumped to.
  • Like the old bug I linked to, it also happens if the mouse wasn’t on NPC when you pressed the button, but is on NPC when you release the button.
  • The cursor won’t be where the player expects it to be, and he loses track of it and has to move it around wildly to find it again.

Expected behavior:

  • It should behave the same as if you start with the cursor on blank space: the cursor will be in the same place when you release the button.

I didn’t notice the bug until now because I used to play full-screen
I only noticed it when I started playing in window mode and the mouse kept catching the window border and re-sizing the game.

This bug could be the reason why a lot of people complain they lose track of the cursor, even asking if there’s a mod that makes the cursor brighter so it’s easier to see. Generally you unconsciously remember where the cursor is even if you can’t see it, but since it jumps around if your mouse was over an NPC, the cursor is not where you expect it to be anymore.

FOV (Field of View) Changes Beta Test - Feedback Thread

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

lorazcyk.8927

(Images attached)

Please let us adjust the FOV how we want it. The camera is still claustrophobic when using the full screen. I want to set it to 100, that’s what I use in other games.

I have to play with the GW2 window shrunk vertically to half it’s normal size, instead of using the whole screen. If I don’t do that, then the FOV is so low, and when fighting, I can’t see what’s going on around me. I can’t see who’s friend or foe. I just auto-attack, look at the bar bellow my skills to see if it’s red (out of rage), and hope for the best. I can’t see where my downed friends are so I can revive them. I just run in circles until the blue resurrect pop ups appears, so I can press F.

I can’t become a better skilled player if I can’t have a higher FOV, because I can’t see what’s happening or what I’m doing.

The user interface also becomes much smaller the more I shrink the window. This lets me see more around me because the UI isn’t cluttering the screen. Note how I can shove the chat and map directly left and right of my skill bar, but if I go full screen, there’s no room and instead it goes above it.

On the images that show the UI, note how the NPCs are on my face and there’s no room to see anything else. How do you think a melee character feels, fighting that close? Let me tell you, sick, that’s how.
But when I shrink the window, they there’s a lot more room to see what’s going on around me, and I don’t get sick.

Each of us need different FOV settings, depending on our eyes, distance to computer, screen size, and personal preference. What provides enough field of view for one person is too zoomed in for another person and can make them sick.

"no cleave", in dungeons

in Warrior

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

lorazcyk.8927

I’ve been doing dungeons since Lv 30 on my warrior. Yesterday in CM someone said ‘no cleave’, though I wasn’t sure who s/he was saying that to. I looked all over my skills to see if there was one called “cleave”, but there wasn’t any, so I assumed s/he wasn’t talking to me (we had 3 warriors in the team).

Purely by accident I stumbled on this page today and figured that’s what he must have meant.

  • Is “cleave” an official term, or player-made?
  • If we shouldn’t use skills that cleave, then what do you bring instead? Longbow? I like playing melee, though. (I was using axe/mace and switching to longbow once in a while)
  • Why shouldn’t we cleave?

Best profession for a terrible player?

I recently remade my Warrior as Asuran to play how I want, and playing how I want meant comboing off of RADIATION FIELD!

Great idea! For some reason I thought the radiation field was a ethereal field, not poison.
I like playing hammer + axe/mace, so all the knockdowns/weakness kept me safe and vulnerability made monsters quick to kill. With the radiation field it would be even better.

I call nonsense on this one, since you can’t even damage mobs that are more than 9 levels higher than you, no, doing one-digit damage doesn’t count.

Areas, not level. Each area has a diverse range of level mobs. Though once again I’m victim of not being able to do simple math.

My character’s story has been parked in “A light in the darkness” for a long time now since I’ve been doing dungeons instead.

And maybe you are the kind of player to AFK (boo! shame on you!), but not all of us are. Some of us buy games because we want to play them, not AFK them. But I realize that’s a really difficult concept to grasp for a lot of people, given that even the devs seem to be catering to those kind of players.

If I were AFKing the knights/holograms then even a necro or thief would have been easy. But when I was playing those, I kept dying . On the warrior I didn’t, even though I went melee, swapping to ranged once in a while.

I really do recommend the warrior for a bad player (or as I’d rather say, players with a low skill ceiling). Atleast based on my experience so far.

But then again a lot of people recommend guardian, and I kept dying on it, even playing maps the same level as me. Guardian has all sort of protective buffs but I couldn’t kill quickly enough. On a warrior, even though I feel naked and unprotected, I kill quickly so it’s no big deal.

If you want a ranger, just make a warrior instead. If you really want a pet, make a sylvari warrior, then buy the elite skill that lets you have a sylvari hound (dog). You can buy it at level 30 for 10 skill points. The dog stays with you for 60 seconds and the skill has a 180 second cooldown.

Like many here said, warrior is very easy to play. You mash buttons and you win. I’m level 45 and I’ve been playing in areas that are 15 levels above mine since level 12 or so, and I do fine. My personal story now is level 53 even though I’m level 45. With the other professions I struggled even though I was above the recommended level. I did the scarlet knights/holograms and I was level 24. I didn’t die, but on the other professions (who were level 20 something) I kept dying.

Warrior is a lot more fun than I thought. You have a lot of fun weapons and can make all sorts of fun builds. The sylvari skills are good too, so I really recommend it.

Make sure to upgrade your armor and weapons every 5 levels. I buy green gear when I’m level x5 (35, 45, etc), and yellow gear when I’m x0 (40, 50, etc).

I think this will work in PvE too.

Do you say thank you for killing an enemy? Do you say thank you every time someone gives you swiftness or might? Resurrection is like that, you just do it, it’s part of game play. There’s no need to say thank you. When I resurrect you I’m just doing my job.

lorazcyk.8927

Do I miss dedicated trinity? Not necessarily. I enjoy it, but the GW2 soft trinity is fun too. Or it would be, if you actually needed it.
What I do miss is party coordination.
Mobs are either too easy they die if you just look at them, or so strong you sit there for minutes on end spamming attacks. They have a very weak AI so there’s not much thinking needed. Anet takes a lot of lazy shortcuts in enemy design, like making them dps sponges, defiant, OHKO attacks (or lately, making them immune to damage without any way to counter it). I think if Anet improved enemy AI, the soft trinity would come into play.

About the “waiting hours for a monk” comment (I assume in GW1), you didn’t have to wait hours for a monk or warrior. Instead of monk you could have invited a elementalist, ritualist, and necromancer healer/protector. Instead of warrior you could have used MM, spirit spammer, assassin, dervish, ele tank, and so on. That’s solely the players’ fault for being close minded.

~ Quoting Funset: “ARENANET ADVERTISEMENT HIS GAME FOR YEARS SAYING GW2 WOULD NOT HAVE A TRINITY?”
That’s not true. They said it wouldn’t have a dedicated trinity. They did say there would be a soft trinity. But they have deleted their blog to hide their lies… so you’ll have to take my word for it

  • Immerse Combat Mode: hide all the user interface while in combat except your skillbar and enemy nameplate.
If not that, atleast the ability to move the enemy bar to the bottom of the screen. Right now my character fights sideways like a crab (I move the camera so the enemy is always left of me instead of ahead of me), because the enemy bar blocks the view otherwise.
  • Ability to play/guest internationally
I wouldn’t have bought the game if I’d known they wouldn’t let us play with friends overseas. They didn’t even bother giving a refund for lying to us.
  • Improved enemy AI / more challenging and exciting enemies
Give enemy smarter AI like GW1 had, so instead of being boring DPS sponges, they’ll require strategy and coordination to fight. Remove Defiant, it’s just a lazy excuse not to work on AI. There is so much potential, fighting in large groups could be so much fun if enemies were smart.
  • Let us hide hobosacks. I made an engineer with eye patch instead of backpack, precisely because I didn’t want a backpack.
  • More pvp modes (relic/flag run, priest, king of the hill, death penalty, kill count, etc)

Masculine effects for a male Mesmer?

in Mesmer

So Anet will check what’s under your underwear and give you skill effects depending on your sex? Well, that would be incredibly insulting. I’m a woman but I prefer masculine effects on female characters, and feminine effects on male characters. I prefer to play a male character because the females are already too insultingly girly (I can’t take them seriously as the adults/professionals they should be). Not every woman is girly and not every man is macho.

Personally I would prefer to play male spellcasters, but Anet made them ugly in Gw2 :-( The females look too girly and I can’t stand to play them because I don’t identify with them at all. So I just don’t play any spellcasters at all.

My husband didn’t like how male spellcasters looked like in Gw1, and he didn’t like playing female. So he didn’t play any except male ritualists, who looked masculine (sexy too!)

I don’t know how Anet could do what you want without being even more insulting than they are now. Unless they let us choose the style we want, a lot of people would not be happy.

Guild Wars Armor Skins

Actually, I wish they would make the default town clothes become the beginner gear. It’s really insulting to make a new Charr, and immediately see (on character creation screen) that the tail and horns clip. If they made the beginner town clothes the first armor (for all professions), we’d start with race-appropriate gear, and we could transmute it into higher level armor later if we can’t find something that doesn’t clip.

Guild Wars Armor Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

lorazcyk.8927

Right now it looks like this is how much time they spend making armor:

  • Female humanoids: 90% of their time.
  • Male humanoid: 8% (generous estimate)
  • Charr: 1%
  • Asura: 1%

If they made unisex racial armor instead, they would be able to spend 20% of their time evenly for each race.

This would let them make each race’s armor more unique, let them have the time to make charr armor that actually fits them, and who knows, they could make sylvari armor that has/shows glow.

Plus if they wanted to make sexy armor for females, they’d have to do it in a way that is sexy for guys too, since it would be unisex. Win win.

It would be silly to go back and re-do all the armors, buy why aren’t new armors done this way? Since release, the new armors are plagued with the same issues as always. I shouldn’t have to play a female humanoid to look good.

FPS got much better once I switched my screen resolution to the lowest possible, try it out. 1024×768, hello 2005! >_<

Like you, I wish the event was instanced. But then a lot of people would complain that they need to find a group, so it’s difficult to make everyone happy. I wish there was a middle ground.

An alternative would be to limit the maximum amount of people allowed in these temporary maps. A maximum of 30 players at the Battle for Lion’s Arch map would let you…

  • have 2 parties of 5 at each champion if you choose to take them out all at the same time.
  • zerg champions one by one, in which case you’d have 30 players per champion.
  • choose to join a party and coordinate your efforts.
  • not join a party at all.

[ 30 or so people fighting champs, but maximum 60 in map to account for other events ]

I also wish we had numbered overflows and we could switch between them. Then the players could say “odd overflows are zerg, even overflows are small teams”. And if you want to go with your guild/squad, you could say “we’re meeting in overflow 12”.

I suggested playing with eyes (or one eye) closed: it was a real suggestion. One I hate to suggest, but one that has served me well.

I wish Anet would do something about flashing lights, I’ve been mentioning some issues since beta but they don’t change them. Things such as an enemy flashing each time you hit them, or skill effects that take the whole screen.
It was also an issue in Gw1 (for me). In Gw1 I really wanted to play PvP, but since I had to play with my eyes (or one eye) closed, I didn’t want my team to lose because of me. So it was 3 or 4 years before I started playing PvP!

Well, when I say eyes closed, what I really do is turn my head to the left until I don’t see the screen anymore. Yeah, my neck hurts sometimes!

I really do wish Anet would be more careful with flashing lights, but until they do, all we can do is offer suggestions on how to deal.

Didn’t find it hard at all. Just time consuming, and with platformer game elements instead of RPG. To me it wasn’t a real dungeon.

I did hate the artificial difficulty though: my screen was too foggy so it blurred red circles, the camera was cramped and moved back and forth so I got nauseous and hardly had any field of view to the left and right, there were other things but I haven’t been in game since then, don’t remember.

Not only that, but expecting players to play the game engine instead of playing their character (!) Anet ate you insane? Do you consider your own game so horrible that you gave up on it?

Anyway, I wish we got more real RPG dungeons instead of a crash bandicoot game. I still own that game, and as a platformer is a lot better than guild wars, and I’m shocked I’m expected to play that as main content. Shocked would be putting it lightly. More like wanting to put a complaint on BBB, but instead I just go play another game or go goof-off outdoors because Anet doesn’t care anyway.

Not a bad dungeon overall, just not what I wanted a dungeon to be like in gw2. Won’t play it again, even with the 1 gold reward. If I want a platformer there are lots of better games.

I want an actual challenging dungeon.

difficulty dilemma

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

An example of an “hard mode” alternative to defiant:

  1. Boss starts with 30 seconds of stability.
  2. If players remove the boon, the enemy tries to cause blind, daze, interrupt, etc, when it detects an incoming CC.
  3. If he gets CC’d, he removes the condition or breaks stun. If he ran out of stun breaks and condition removal, he gets stability again and the cycle repeats.

Since some professions don’t have boon removal (warrior and ranger don’t right?), the boss could start on #2, then #3, then #1.

That could actually happen in different order on different bosses, but since it’s a cycle, the boss would always have a defense to CC, but counterable with skill.

(Offtopic: really wish we had combos that do boon removal or give stability)

Very simple.
Have separate worlds for hardcore only…..don’t even advertise what cool gear they get to everybody else

I absolutely would ;-)

Me too, I don’t even need the cool gear. Easy servers can keep it.
I just hope the challenging content would actually be challenging, not just inflated HP pools, insta KO, etc Oh, and I’m not skilled… far from it, I’m still learning, I make so many rookie mistakes. But even if I’m not skilled I don’t want my game to be a waste of time to play because it’s not challenging. Even tic tac toe is more challenging sometimes. I want to learn and get better, but I need a reason to. The game needs to be challenging.

Accidental clicking still not fixed

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

lorazcyk.8927

I know I could just left click or double left click to interact, but left mouse button doesn’t properly select targets. Even when I’m not moving and the enemy isn’t moving and my cursor is red, left click causes me to lose my old target and NOT select the new target, because clicking blank space with left click makes you unselect a target. But if the cursor was red, how did I click blank space? It’s even worse when moving. And a lot of times the cursor actually disappears to trigger camera movement and it still clears my target…
So left click is useless for me ATM.

And I don’t want to double click to interact, I want single click. I wish I could have the right click style/behavior on the left click. I want a single click to interact. And it doesn’t clear target on blank space like left click, yay!

Targeting is so broken in this game >_> I have to resort to mouse targeting because Tab target is useless (doesn’t behave as expected). But mouse targeting is broken too :P

Accidental clicking still not fixed

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

lorazcyk.8927

The “moved zero pixels” targeting bug is not fixed as you say in your patch notes. Yes, you’ve fixed the behavior I demonstrated on the videos, but if holding the mouse a long time (and moving it zero pixels), it will still target if the cursor is on the enemy both on button press and release, even if your character moved so the cursor wasn’t on the enemy some of that time.

  • Problem:
    - Place cursor over enemy. The cursor becomes red. Press and hold it.
    - Move/dodge/whatever so the cursor isn’t on the enemy anymore, and the cursor becomes brown/normal.
    - Wait some time (5 seconds? 30 seconds? 1 minute? 5 minutes?)
    - Move back so the cursor goes on the enemy again and it becomes red
    - The enemy is targeted (if left or right button) and is auto attacked (if right button)
  • Solution:
You still need to add a time threshold. If the player doesn’t release the button in the time a click should happen (even if you have to be generous with this time), the cursor should disappear and go into camera mode instead of waiting.

I accidentally targeted something less than 20 seconds after logging in to my character ^^;

Getting sick of Lions Arch.

I could be mistaken but I heard the new dungeon would have the entrance in LA, and also meant the entrances to living story instance for example, and then having achiemengs in LA, it’s too much, too many, in such a cramped space. Why does it have to take only 1% of the world? Why can’t it spread out? The karka event is the only one I would have allowed to happen in LA if I had any say in it. And I would try to have most of it happen outside LA if st all possible.

Yesssssssss, I hate it for several reasons. Not only that, I hate it that dungeon entrances are in LA too! Crazy lag in that place, I can’t even walk around or preview a armor, it takes a few minutes and I get fed up waiting!

Cities shouldn’t be where the game happens. Cities are safe places to rest or use npc services. It’s OK to have the decorations, but playable content should be on playable areas. Main roads all over the world could be decorated with piñatas instead of cities, increasing in density around villages/settlements. Every city could have moa racing to spread the population. To minimize the work needed to decorate all cities, they could add just simple objects instead of full blown make over. Or moa racing could visit every explorable zone every x hours, like the circus coming to town. Maybe in the game-time mornings.

Karka attack should have been in south west blood tide coast (if I remember right it’s ocean there), going further north.

All the another events you mention could have been in playable zones (each zone depends on the story).

Kit Refinement

What would you think of elixir X elite becoming the old kit refinement, and the trait removed?
Either that or reverting it to how it was before and making it grandmaster.

But I’d love it as an elite!

Wish I could put a big fluffy dolyak in my home instance. I’d go there all the time and give him hugs and kisses. I’ll keep the fireplace going so he can stay warm. And I’ll bring him lots of ale.

You can see her buttcheeks with vigil pants
You can see almost her entire exposed boob with human cultural armor

Isn’t that revealing enough for you?

We have lots of armor that’s not coats. For WOMEN anyway. So count yourself lucky if you play female!

Remember you can split the pieces and mix them with other armors, you can get a lot of pretty and/or revealing stuff like that.

I was traveling for Father’s Day weekend, and seem to have missed the event entirely. I’m a little disappointed.

That’s your fault, you should have prioritized the game over father’s day.

(That’s what an elitist player would say)
