“It’s already there…can’t get more skimpier than that Boots Armor."

Oh, you’re talking about charr and asura… I thought you were talking about male humans/sylvari/norn as I wrote my suggestions for them.
Where is it in PvP armory? I just played with armors in PvP and didn’t see it. Does that armor work for male humans too? I don’t recognize the armor icon, what’s it called?

“You’re just assuming it’s to simply sexualize women when that may not be the sole or only goal. For some women, after all, expressing themselves through their clothing is a form of empowerment."

Assuming? Nope!
Men like to express themselves with fashion/style too (I see this more in europe and asia than USA, in USA most guys don’t seem to care about their appearance besides showering and shaving every morning).

Why would a woman feel empowered if she’s dressed like a victorias secret model or a samba dancer? I hope she has more self worth than that! Not that those clothes are bad, they can be fun to wear, but empowering? Honestly, seek therapy if you need it to feel self worth and empowerment! Women aren’t objects!

And indeed, I AM a woman who likes expressing herself through clothing. Because it’s fun to play with clothes, just like it’s fun to paint, draw, rollerblade, or play guitar.

But anyway, just a little problem… I like to play male characters! But their armors are so boring compared to females’ armor! Now what!? No nice armors for me. So I can’t express myself through my clothing

My husband and my friend also like working towards new armors, playing with armors, getting it to look just right, etc. And they’re both male players who play male characters. They complain of plain clothes, or goofy overdone armors like COF. They want sexy stuff.

“Yeah, I’m going to say women in GW2 are portrayed as pretty darn good. Having a set of armor that shows a bit of underboob or adding some more than shows more midrif or leg isn’t going to somehow undo all the above I just typed."

According to you? Because YOU don’t have a complaint, you completely dismiss those of us who do. How nice of you. Won’t be voting you for president, that’ for sure.
Also, way to miss the point for the millionth time. Again.
You’re talking about NPCs, not our characters. This thread is about adding more skimpy armors to our characters, not he NPCs.

Why does Anet think females need to be sexualized to have worth? You say women like to express themselves through their clothes, but why does that mean that for females, they get sexualizied clothes, and more males, they get boring clothes?

What a nice message to teach to the young girls and women who play Guild wars. That men’s worth is not tied to their appearance, but women need to wear demeaning clothes.

If you have two lieutenants, one male and one female, both great at their job, why should the male be respected by others, while the female is not unless she chooses to wears heels, make up, a push up bra, and a buttoned shirt with the buttons nearly popping off? That’s not her job description.
Why does her worth have to include her appearance? Are we back in old china where we bind little girls feet? Geez!

As for me?
I want a male character to look good/attractive, because I’m a straight woman and I’d rather stare at a sexy guy when I play. Just like guys would rather stare at a cute women’s butt instead of a male character.

  • Mad Queen has said everything you need to understand. Go over her posts. Before and after you read each post think of this question:

“Why must female characters be portrayed in a completely sexualized manner, as if they were Victoria’s Secret models or Samba dancers instead of just fighters, and in that case, why is it enough for male characters to be portrayed as just fighters? Why aren’t female characters portrayed as “just fighters” too?
Why aren’t male characters also sexualized to look GREAT like a underwear model or a male samba dancer? After all, straight women and gay men are physically attracted to men too!"

Then go from there. If you do that you will understand. If you don’t, you won’t.

Our characters are fighters, not lingerie models or carnival dancers. Male characters don’t model lingerie nor do they wear male samba dancing attire… Would be nice if they did, to be on par with women. I might actually get a good looking male character for once. YAY!

Ideas for males (I think it might also work for charr and asura). Would appreciate any comments.

  • a tank top that’s cut off just above his chest, exposing his nipples and lower body. would go great with those pants that show all of his happy trail and hip bones. Why not? Female human cultural does it.
  • men’s pants that show his happy trail (hair line under the belly button) and hip bones until you can’t go down anymore without showing his genitals
  • a male character wearing no pants, only hot pants (shorter than boxers) that show off his firm buns flexing when he runs around
  • female duelist armor on a male, just like hers perhaps having the pants tied on the front of the leg instead of the side, so that as it comes up it exposes his hip bones
  • a small bolero that exposes most of his upper body
  • his upper body completely exposed except for a few bracelets on his wrists (gloves), a cowl on his neck made of jewelry (shirt), and shoulders also just jewelry (shoulders).
  • a long tunic that goes down to just below his knees, open at both sides up to his elbows, with no pants or underwear (it’s ok, you’ll only see the side of his torso, hip, and legs, you won’t even see anywhere near his genitals. Worn with gladiator sandals or jewelry on his ankles.
  • pants where the “waist” seam is diagonal, not horizontal, so it exposes one side of his legs until his knee, and part of his butt (could be tied together… or not)
  • a shirt that’s a single strip of fabric, leather, or metal running down from his neck, between his breasts, until it reaches his pants. (like what this man has under his suit coat )

What happened to the young male charr face?

in Charr

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

Didn’t there used to be a young male charr face? All the male faces look like “great great grampa charr”, but I recall there being a younger face (teenager, I’d say).

There are some male NPCs with this face, though I can’t remember any right now. These NPCs also have a teenager voice instead of the rough, older male voice.

(I want a male charr, don’t like the female, but I want to look younger)

An option to disable right click targeting

+1
Please let us disable right-click targeting.
.

When people were complaining about low FOV in game causing drowsiness/vomiting/headaches, Anet was in a huuuuge hurry to fix camera smoothing which wasn’t the problem. To quote/paraphrase what a dev said (John Peters?), “People with FOV sickness have no clue what they’re talking about, once we fix the camera smoothing they won’t have a problem anymore”.

Laughable. Just laughable.

The camera smoothing wasn’t an issue with those of us complaining about the low FOV, but they “fixed it” and made the smoothing worse, so bad that it actually started making me sick after the change, when it didn’t before! (camera started trembling heavily while turning).

They were in suuuuch a hurry to “fix” that perfectly fine camera smoothing, but they can’t be bothered to give us a toggle to disable right clicking.
.

I don’t get ANet.

Do they not realize how often you need to turn the camera? Every time I fight or explore, I’m turning the camera with the right mouse button! 90% of the time? 95%? Right-click targeting is a huge issue, as I have to stop fighting to reset my target so often it nearly gives me a heart attack out of frustration.
.

As for the “on mouse click; on mouse release” argument, so what? Do you expect me to hold down the right mouse button the entire fight, until everything is dead?

Holding down the right mouse button is uncomfortable and will lead to carpal tunnel syndrome if you’re not careful.

I’ll never risk having disabling pain and stiffness on my hands again, and neither should you. I used to have arthritis, it makes life awful not being able to turn a doorknob, type, write, or cook myself a meal. If you experienced this, you wouldn’t tell others to “just hold down the right mouse button the entire time”. You would come to this thread and ask for ANet to disable right click targeting so you don’t end up losing the ability to use your hands, wrists, and/or fingers.

Plus I can’t hold down the right mouse button the entire fight, as left clicking at the same time would cause my character to run forward. Try it.

And as an Engineer, I need to do a lot of ground targeting, so moving my mouse to do that while the right mouse button is held down would make the camera spin around when I don’t need/want it to.

Poll: Engineers with hammers

in Engineer

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

lorazcyk.8927

Nah, I’d prefer the engine to gain a power glove or chainsaw kit before getting a close range weapon. Kits fit the theme of engineers more than giving them hammers and torches.

But if you read my post, you’d see that neither maces/hammers nor torches need to be close range weapons. Mesmers use greatswords at long range, and some professions can wield a sword, axe, or dagger on their off-hand (which would normally be wielded with your main-hand). So we could have a long range main-hand torch or mace.

And while I agree that kits fit the engineer better than extra weapons, right now if you don’t want to use a rifle you’re stuck with a main-hand pistol. A main-hand torch would give you an alternative.

In my post I also gave ideas that make a torch suitable for the engineer theme, go and read my post and you’ll see.

Plus, if you don’t feel like using kits, being able to swap weapons would be a godsend, since while you have “extra” skills through your toolbelt, you don’t get a choice which toolbelt skills you get since they come with the utility slots. (You’d have to sacrifice utility slots to get a particular toolbelt).

I woudln’t mind if our kit backpacks would reflect the back item you have equipped, like a stuffed quaggan/charr plush toy sneaking out from inside the backpack, or a quaggan/charr charm hanging from the backpack.

Poll: Engineers with hammers

in Engineer

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

lorazcyk.8927

I clicked +1 on your post to show my interest to ANet, though I’d prefer a mainhand torch instead of a mace or hammer.
Why? Because…

  • I know a lot of people want a mace or hammer, but unlike others I don’t think that really fits the engineer, though I do understand why others think that. But repairing things with a hammer isn’t exclusive to engineers, other professions do it too, and you wouldn’t repair machinery with a hammer anyway, LOL. So to me, it doesn’t make sense.
  • Heat and flame is used to create or repair hardware/machinery. Metal working. Soldering irons and butane torches come to mind. Therefore I think the torch would be more fitting to an engineer than a hammer or mace.
  • We only have one mainhand weapon that we can use with our offhand weapons. With a mainhand torch, you’re not stuck with the pistol mainhand anymore.
  • The Mesmer has a greatsword that behaves like a ranged staff — so why couldn’t we have a mainhand torch?

I want a weapon with an auto-attack chain; none of this pistol and rifle auto-attack nonsense without chain attacks!

Here’s an example on how they could create the engineer’s mainhand torch, in this case, a weapon with an auto-attack of 900 (?) range.

Skill 1 in autoattack chain, inspired by Molotov Caulktail
(the word and the link got kittened, so I caulked it)

  • light a napalm flask/elixir with your torch, then toss it at your target to damage & burn enemies in the area
  • AoE has 120 radius, improves to 180 with Juggernaut trait
  • 20% chance of creating a Blast finisher
(yeah, I know elixirs are supposed to be beneficial, but, but… molotov caulktail!)

Skill 2 in autoattack chain could be:
- AoE, no burning, no blast finisher
or…
- single-target with burning or blind, no blast finisher
… whichever ANet thinks is best.

Skill 3 in autoattack chain inspired by a butane torch

  • slightly longer activation time than the other skills in the chain
  • burn a flask/elixir of metal powder and toss it at your target, creating a sickening vapor that damages & poisons enemies in the area
  • AoE has 120 radius, improves to 180 with Juggernaut
  • 20% chance of creating a Poison combo field, in addition to the poison created by the skill

Then we have…

Skill 2: Throw your torch at your enemy, damaging & blinding them, and leaving a trail of smoke on the way

  • ranged attack (as ranged as the “smoke screen” … is it 900? or 1200? I don’t remember)
  • 100% chance of smoke screen combo field (starting where you’re standing when using the skill)
  • the smoke screen goes in a line parallel to you, from you to the enemy, not perpendicular as it normally is.

Skill 3: Slam your torch on the ground at your location, creating a ring of napalm

  • similar to the ranger’s bonfire torch skill
  • … but remove combo field since the other skills already have some
  • reduce pulses (ticks) to every 2 seconds instead of every second
  • cause 1 second of burning with each pulse
  • cause 2 or 3 seconds of cripple and bleed when you use the skill (the first pulse), because of the torch splinters
  • AoE has 120 radius, improves to 180 with Juggernaut trait

I think this weapon fits the Engineer theme, and provides good synergy with the pistol and shield off-hands available to us, as well as the flamethrower kit.

Maybe you’re thinking, “that’s awesome, make it a kit!”.
But I don’t want more kits, I want another main-hand weapon to use with my offhand shield and pistol!
.

Feedback, please.

Feeling really weak, this normal?

in Engineer

lorazcyk.8927

Do you swap your pistol and flamethrower a lot, or do you just use the flamethrower all the time?

I do feel weak too, damage wise. But engineer has a lot of defense:

Stun enemies with your shield then put down Napalm on them. (Or use the Glue shot on pistol offhand instead of the shield’s stun). If you rotate the camera when you’re ground targeting, it’s easier to get the Napalm how you want it (so it covers all the monsters).

Reserve the shield Knockback to defend yourself if you’re almost dying. But you could also use it on the fire napalm to get some Might.

Maybe get Elixir B for some retaliation.

Try to put enemies together into a tight ball so #1 and #2 pistol skills hit everyone.

I know you feel squishy, but try to shoot almost in melee range, the skills will hit better IMO.

The enemies are completely disabled (can’t use skills) when you stun them with the shield, so you have that for defense, then you can switch to FT and blind with 5 once the stun runs out. And you still have Static Shot (pistol 3) for another blind, and FT 3 and shield 1 to push back ;-) And it’s AoE blinds too… rotate them and that itself is plenty of defense.

If you pick a backpack when you make your character, it will get damaged before your armor does.

Look on trading post for green weapons and armor, you can sort them by level, rarity, etc, so it’s easy to buy every few levels.

I’ve leveled two engineers and Lv 11-20 feels the worst, specially 15-20, since you only get your third utility slot at 20. I don’t understand why we can’t have it at 15.

Seems like something they’d do, except give it four ways to jump instead of two.

  • I wish this dungeon could have been open world content, there’s a lot of empty zones where this could have taken place, bringing more people to empty zones.

All in all, what I wanted from living world is for each zone’s story to change, bringing different quests, and making people come back and play it as fresh content.

What we got instead, was fix sign posts and loot dead bodies, then 12 XBox acheivements. WOOHOO, JOY!!! I’m sick and tired of silly Xbox achievements being the main gameplay, I’m not a toddler who needs to be given a list of chores.

You did give us two instances and a dungeon, but those only take people away from the world. You need to bring people back to the world, specifically mid-level areas (30-60 or so). It makes the world feel static when the content is in instances. You should have made all of this content open world IMO.

I’m worried you’ll keep making lots of instanced content, making the world even more empty and static than it is now.

I liked:

  • cutscenes (I wish all the world bosses had nice cutscenes like that, and other dungeon bosses too)
  • voice acting and dialog. Voice acting is much better, tone of voice is appropriate to each situation.
  • Really like the Rox character (personality and dialog). I hope she and braham can show up in our stories again, maybe even like mercenaries/henchmen. I’m tired of my character making so many friends but never seeing them again.
  • Rox and Braham were very useful NPCs, I wanted to high-five them
  • gathering nodes
  • arrows on the mini map to guide you (though this dungeon is pretty linear so it wasn’t 100% necessary, I hope you do that from now on)

Disliked:

  • Like the australian player said (though I’m in northeast USA), I can’t dodge the weapon testing/bosses at the right time. No matter how I try to do it, it’s always too early or too late. So you can guess who spent the dungeon dead on the floor I now realize I could have used Toss Elixir S, but at the time things were too hectic and didn’t give you time to breathe and think.
  • I’m worried Gw2 will keep becoming more and more like a platform game.
But just like I don’t go to McDonalds to eat a Tofu veggie burger or the McBroccoli nuggets, I don’t log on to Gw2 to to jump and dance like I’m on a sugar high.
When I login to Gw2 I want to use my skills and cooperate (strategy?) with other players, not play Sonic Adventure or Crash Bandicoot.
  • Plant the explosives… where? I always have this problem in dungeons. I still don’t get where’s the rock and where’s the platform in A.C. I know what I’m supposed to do, but I have to look at a guide online with very explicit screenshots to see where and how? I should be able to figure that out from inside the game.
But even so, I’m not that fond of this sort of thing, it adds no challenge and no fun, just prolongs the dungeon. Why not just have an NPC do it?
  • Maybe I’m just too old for this, but on the weapon testing room I can’t do everything at once: jump, turn the camera, use my heal, my toolbelt skills, use a skill to protect an teammate, swap my engineer kits for the skill I need, attack the enemy… I only have so many fingers and so much concentration, and I seriously got cramps on my left wrist and fingers from playing that dungeon (and it’s still hurting a day after).
I now realize I could have used Toss Elixir S for stability or stealth (4s on 60s cooldown), but at the time you didn’t get a second to breathe and think what to do.
It’s just I didn’t realize I was buying a platform game when I bought Gw2. I mean, I even played beta. I don’t get why you’re so intent on making this a “platformer + achievements” xbox game.
  • As usual, I want to improve my skill and become a better player, but I don’t see how I can do that when I don’t recognize the skills used by enemies (more on that later)
You could make their skills show as a tool tip like Gw1 so I can atleast read the tooltip and associate the skill animation with what the skill does.
Or you could give a list of skills that killed you like in sPvP (but it still doesn’t show the skill description, does it?) But this isn’t the best choice, because the player still won’t be able to associate the skill animation with the skill itself.
  • All the glowy skill animations means I can’t see what I’m doing, who I’m fighting, where my teammates are, even when downed it takes people atleast 10 seconds to notice the downed icon on the screen (because all the glowy animations blur it).
Can’t see what the enemies or my teammates are doing since all I see on the screen are fireworks (trash mobs only, bosses were much more clear visually).
The cramped spaces only intensified the problem. I kept nagging at my team not to fight on the bridges, but oh well. Going past the bridges wouldn’t really fix the problem. It was still cramped with your back against the wall. This is a problem all over the world, but it’s saddening that it still happens in small fights like sPvP and 5 person dungeons.
  • If I have unchecked “show other players” in my options, why do my party’s nameplates still show? Visual clutter hell!
  • Tired of dumb passive effects (Unshakable & Defiant) instead of interesting combat mechanics. I hope you get rid of that ASAP… everywhere. We spend 80 levels leveling up and learning how to use our characters and our skills, and then you make it so nearly everything we learned is useless and the only thing left is plain damage. “I swung my sword, I swung my sword again. Oh, I swung it again!”
  • Enemies and art overly cartoonish (as are all male Norns ;p). It’s like everyone at ANet grew up playing nintendo (hey, I play nintendo games too, I just like something more realistic like Gw1)

how to get rid of screen notification?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

lorazcyk.8927

It’s not possible to disable it.

ANet have said that they don’t want to let us hide parts of the interface, because then a non-technically inclined player might not understand how to get it back if he disabled it (Really?!?! Gee, all he has to do is ask in chat!)
So because of this imaginary player, we must all have a lot of clutter on our screen :P

I wish I could atleast move all that junk to the bottom of the screen.

If you divide your screen into:

  • top left – top center – top right
  • middle left – middle center – middle right
  • bottom left – bottom center – bottom right

… all I can see of the battlefield when I fight is the top left and top center. Everything else is blocked with UI junk, or my character (smallest charr/norn females). And I play with Small size interface already.

(Edit… wait… the top center has the huge enemy health bar and picture with the status effects, so actually I can only see the battlefield on the top left…! :P )

Thankfully I don’t need my CapsLock key so I disabled it and turned it into a Delete button. Then in keybinds I set Delete to Hide Interface. So when I fight, I tap the CapsLock and then tap it again when I’m done fighting, but I shouldn’t have to do that. It’s not a perfect solution because I can’t see enemy health, my skill recharge, and status effects, not to mention my own health.

If I could move the events to the lower right, and keep the mini map on the lower right… then I could disable the chat box and party members to reduce clutter. That would mean I could atleast see everything on the top and middle.

Actually, because of the way my eyes are (one eye is much weaker than the other), I would prefer the mini map on the lower left, the events on the lower right, and chat box in the upper right. This would make the interface much easier to use for me, and reduce eye strain. But ANet doesn’t want to let us change things.

It seems like all the anet employees and testers play on a computer with 2560×1600 resolution. Don’t they realize most players have basic hardware? I would bet the vast majority of us don’t play on a resolution anywhere that high.

What ANEt could do is set transparency of all interface elements to 0% or 10% when fighting (except skill bar and status effects, maybe party members too). They could give us a slider to choose UI transparency when in combat, and an option to pick which UI elements should be given transparency.

This way you would have a clear view of the battlefield.

They could also have you use the Hero/Story window to list living world and personal story stuff, instead of having it clutter the screen. To know where to go, you would click the [Show me] button, like when you receive a mail from an NPC to tell you about a dungeon.

Eir: my opinion of her has changed - disappointed

in Living World

Posted by: lorazcyk.8927

lorazcyk.8927

The final straw was that the story ended with Eir admitting that Braham is indeed her son and that he went to live with his father because they both thought it would be best for him. This flat out admitted that Eir was a negligent parent.

WOW, how rude of you! Are you trolling, or just rude? I hope you’re trolling, because I can’t imagine anyone would say something so ignorant.

If you’re a slave mother and the father is a noble, clearly it’s better to have the father raise him so the child will have a better quality of live and more opportunities.

If you’re a mother with a condition that prevents you from working, isn’t it better to give the child to his father to raise? Or would you make your young child sit on the street begging for money, and making him work so much to provide for both of you?

I don’t know what Eir’s situation was. But even if it was that she “just couldn’t be bothered to raise a child” (as I imagine you picture it), atleast she was honest with herself. So HIS FATHER raised him, not a complete stranger on the street. Nothing wrong with that!

In essence, without knowing the whole situation, it’s the same as if she’d given her child up for adoption. Nothing wrong with that.

If Eir had raised the child without his father, would you say the father is negligent?
So what’s wrong with Braham having his own father raise him? He’s his father too, why does the burden and shame have to fall on Eir?

Don’t forget that you’re looking at this from your perspective. Not all of the world thinks the way you do, specially in a video game or book where you can create an entirely different culture.

Eir was my favorite member of Destiny’s Edge, despite her not having a unique voice actor. She came off as a deep introvert, who was starting to break out of her shell with her guild.

She’s my favorite too… not that I think she’s really cool, it’s just that compared to the other DE losers, she’s actually a little cool ;-) (I still have to do sylvari story, though, I’ll see about Caithe)

Please; restore her to her former glory, she deserves better than this.

She didn’t lose any of her glory.

Don’t forget that different peoples/tribes have different cultures. What might be wrong to you, might be good to another person.

Most people, if they saw a severely wounded animal (obvious that it’s in a lot of pain and is going to die), would grab him and rush him to the vet.

Me? I would end the animals life right there and then.

You might think I’m cruel for doing this, but I’m doing it to spare the animal from more pain. If you take it to the vet, even IF you save his life, it’s likely that he’ll still be in pain and with less quality of life forever.

It’s the same reason why I think if a person’s condition is so bad that even though they’re alive, they’re not living and they’re not themselves anymore (severe dementia for example), they should have the right to humanely terminate their own life (euthanasia).
But most people think it’s cruel when I say that… to me, it’s cruel to prolong life when you’re not really living.

TL;DR:
It’s all relative.

The FPS limiter in graphic options only limits fps inside the actual game world, so instead of that, I’ve always used:

D:\Gw2\Gw2.exe -fps 20

Which made it work not only inside the game world, but also on the login screen, character creation screen, and loading screens.

(And also because the graphic options FPS limiter only lets you limit to 30, and I want 20)

As of the April 30th patch, it seems that -fps 20 only works inside the game world.
It would be good to have it apply to the other parts of the game as it used to.

Need to go “copy” the beginner engineer headpiece and I’ll be all set.

Even if they just reskinned and reworded things… like in Wayfarer foothills where sons of svanir attack the sacred bears. Change the quest wording, names, and art so it looks like molten (svanir) are attacking refugees (bears). Do that for only a few of the quests, so the beginner areas still feel like their respective beginner areas. Or alternate the quests so that for the most part it triggers the normal one, and 25% of the time it triggers the Flame and Frost modified one.

It’s not much, but it would atleast feel like new content, and that the world changed.

It didn’t feel like it really changed the world.
I don’t want instances, I want those things I did in instances to happen to the world.

Maybe this could be accomplished by turning the instances into “world events” like the frozen maw or claw of jormag, so it actually feels like it affects the world, you can do it with or people (party) or do it solo around other people.
You could get a mail when the event is going to happen soon (10 then 5 minute notice?), or the event could be broadcast in chat (like beta weekend yellow text in chat)

Fixing signposts, collecting mementos… that stuff is just plain boring, I don’t consider it a game! That sort of content needs to change into something more meaningful.

Very, very underwhelming.

I thought maybe some Frost and Flame events would temporarily replace some of the current hearts or dynamic events, then when it’s over, the old events go back to normal.
That way when I’m leveling up my character the content would feel new.

To me that’s a living world…

No UI crap when in combat!

These popups are annoying, even those “Do you want to exit to Wayfarer Foothills?” when you get too close to the green starburst in instances. Off with their heads!

Would be great if you could customize what you want to see too.
We could have, in options:

  • [ x ] No Pop-ups.
  • Hide the interface during combat:
    (option 1) [all interface]
(option 2) [minimal interface] (skill bar, status effects, enemy bar)
I think the above would be enough, but if Anet is feeling generous they could also do:
(option 3) individual elements: [event log] [mini map] [skill bar] [etc, etc]

But they said before they don’t want to let us disable interface elements because some players might get confused if they play with the options and then forget they did it.
Honestly, if you know how to get to options, then I don’t see how you could forget. I mean, it’s on the red menu when you hit ESC!

If I’m walking around gathering or w/e it’s about 30 fps, fighting with others about 15 fps.

Yuck. I mean, if it works for you, that’s your call, but I’m not going to accept anything below 60.

Your tone of voice sounds like “well that’s your choice, but you should play on windows because it will have a better framerate”.

It doesn’t.
The framerates are the same for me both on windows and linux. I verified this many times.

And what choice do I have, when I play on a 2009 laptop with just a dual core and a gtx 260M? I mean, it’s not some amazing gaming rig.
You know, I actually first bought this laptop so I could play Gw 1. I’m pretty happy how it runs Gw2, since I wouldn’t be able to afford a new computer to play it. I just didn’t expect it would run the game SO beautifully and smoothly.

I run Linux and the Gem store or Trade Post don’t work. If I could have the gem store in Linux, who knows, I might actually be able to give some money to ANet by buying gems.

https://github.com/PlayOnLinux/wine-patches/blob/master/GuildWars2/Awesomium.patch

This should fix the trading post for you (if I understood the problem correctly). It’s an easy fix on Arch thanks to the ABS.

Hope it helps!

I’ve been keeping an eye on that but never got around to trying it. But I should give it a try… once I figure out how to have multiple versions of wine installed at the same time.

Nice find. If you go up the git repo folder you can see there’s other gw2 patches too. Now I’m tempted to try!

Females have these two options under “Chin & Jaw”.
Can you give us these two options for males too? AFAIK human, sylvari, norn males are missing these options whereas their female counterparts have them.

It makes all males look alike each other, unlike females where two characters using the same face can actually look like completely different people thanks to all the improved options they have compared to males.

It makes me not get attached to my male character as much as I could, because he looks just like a copy cat of other males… and very stiff too!

Can you give us customization options on par with females?

It would also be nice to give men a more pleasant posture — and animations. Right now when standing they look very surprised as if someone had suddenly stuck a broomstick up their butt. OUCH! It’s very comical. (Not….)

Their legs and arms are very far from their bodies, making it seem as if they’re struggling to carry two buckets of water.

It’s …. weird. Even something simple like crossing their arms would look much better.

The combat animations (at-least for Scholars) are very flat. Go back to Gw1 and play male ritualists, necromancers, mesmers, and elementalists. You’ll see what I mean. In Gw1 mesmers, necromancers and elementalists had a lot more “oomph” to their animations.

While you’re there notice their standing animation. While it’s very simple, it’s also not so flat and stiff/tense like Gw2. It’s more relaxed. His arms are bent a little, and while their legs are also spread apart, they’re not as wide open and also not 100% straightened like Gw2.

I included some screenshots… each profession had different standing and fighting animations.

Since in Gw2 you use the same animations regardless of profession, it’s even easier, you could take all the animations from males in Gw1 and play them in a sequence… the ritualist pose for the first 10 seconds, then change into mesmer pose for the next 13 seconds, necromancer pose for next 8 seconds… and so on.

Take the ritualist fighting animation and use it for spells that take 1 second to cast, give the necromancer animation to spells that take 2 seconds to cast… and so on…

Just an idea.

PS; since all professions could cast spells, even warriors and assassins, you could look at their animations too.

But why should I care to give Anet my money if they don’t care about me, a player using Linux?
If they don’t want my money, that’s too bad.

Have you tried it? Right now, even if you tweak the hell out of your GW2 installation via PoL you won’t get decent frame rates, unless you have a extremely good processor.

I don’t have a “extremely good processor or graphics card” and I get good framerates on Best Appearance (minus anti-aliasin and with post processing set to low, because it makes things too blurry and glowy for my taste). If I’m walking around gathering or w/e it’s about 30 fps, fighting with others about 15 fps. (On character creation it’s 68+, but I prefer to limit my FPS to 30 on my Gw2 shortcut to prevent overheating.)

It’s the same on windows.

Not bad for a modest laptop (bought in 2009).

I do run a very minimal Linux window manager, though. I don’t like bloated desktop environments like KDE or Gnome, all I use is Xmonad or Openbox, with Trayer. (Archlinux installed from scratch so I install what I want, nothing more)

Maybe that helps?
I run wine-1.5.26 (not PlayOnLinux).
The only things I changed from default are “emulate virtual desktop” as big as my screen resolution, and I run Gw2.exe with:

WINEDEBUG=-all (note the minus sign) and -fps 30 -nomusic
But that’s not necessary, the game worked for me without making any changes, those are just personal preference.

So:
WINEDEBUG=—all wine Gw2.exe -fps 30 -nomusic
(I don’t like to play with the background music as it makes me drowsy, so I thought that disabling it would save some resources. All other sounds still play)

GW2 Shutting My CPU Down

I limit FPS to 20 by adding this to the Gw2 shortcut:

-fps 20

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments#Using_command_line_arguments

Depending how powerful your Asus is you might want to adjust that number. Generally I could get away with 30 but 20 is safer for me.

It’s important to do this from the Gw2 shortcut instead of the graphic options. If you do it from graphic options it doesn’t apply everywhere, meaning that in some places the fps will spike too high and your computer will shut down. (I reported this bug during beta including locations where it happens; nothing was done about it)

It’s not that we need more events, there are a lot of them. Most events only happen when a player talks with a certain NPC or Some events “just happen” but most of the events need you to trigger them.

By giving some events a Heart icon, the game made it seem like events are just there, and that the player doesn’t cause events to happen.
That’s wrong, the player can and should cause events to happen.

Pay attention to NPCs, even if they don’t try to catch your attention sometimes they give you an event.

Not all of them have an orange ball over their head.

I haven’t played the game in quite a few months, so I’ll let someone else give some tips on how to trigger events.

lorazcyk.8927

(Continued from above)

What then is the issue with having gear progression?

- If it prevents you from doing what you enjoy because you need to spend your time getting that gear

- If your friends had to take time off from the game for personal reasons (baby, sickness, uprooting your family, taking care of your elderly parents, school, etc) and now they can’t play with you anymore because their gear isn’t good enough for the content where you’re at.

I wonder if you’re assuming only teenagers and young adults play online games. There’s a lot of players who are much older or have many more responsibilities in life.

But with Gw1, it didn’t matter, you just came back later and kept playing with your friends as usual. With gear grinding, that wouldn’t be possible.

The answer is there is No issue – other than a group of people who feel slighted because someone is able to do something they are not.

As I said, it makes a huge difference, which is why there’s so many of us who are so loyal to Gw1.
It’s not something you would understand no matter how many times we explain it, from the looks of it.

I never felt slighted because some people in Gw1 got obsidian armor and I didn’t. I chose not to even though I could.

My husband has never felt slighted because I had vabbian armor and he didn’t. I mean, it’s not like he’s going to call in sick at work so he can stay home and farm materials. I don’t think the army would be too fond of that.
Maybe other players do that? LOL

We both played depending on how much time and dedication we chose to spare to the game, but because the gear has a ceiling, we can play together any time we want and have FUN.

My friends and I wouldn’t be able to have FUN together if obsidian armor had bigger numbers than vabbian armor, or if vabbian armor had better numbers than regular armor. We wouldn’t have time to stay up to date, so we wouldn’t be able to play with each other and have as much fun as we did.

I am not willing or able to have it so by the alimighty neither shall you…that’s what you are saying.

I tried to explain where we’re coming from, and you’re not seeing it. You keep twisting our words to how you want to see them.

You’re on the side that doesn’t get it. So why not just go and play a game that caters to what you want? There are many of those games. That way both you and I and Gw1 fans can have what we want. But if Gw2 caters to your type, Gw1 fans are left with nothing, absolutely nothing. Why not be generous and let us have some fun too?

We Gw1 fans (atleast those who feel the same way I do) want the Gw1 philosophy in Gw2, because there are no other games like it. That’s the difference: you have a choice to go play a game that offers what you like, because there are many games like it, but we don’t have a choice, because there are no other games like it available.

Our only hope is Gw2 ;-)

lorazcyk.8927

I think the “I hate gear progression because I equate it to griding” or “I want my skill to be the only measure of worth” crowd is missing something entirely in htis argument.

It’s nothing to do with “measure of worth”. That’s something I’ve noticed about people who are crazy about gear progression: they think having better armor means they are worth more, while I never said that being more skilled makes me worth more.

To me it’s not about who’s worth more or who’s better, it’s about having fun with friends. I actually played with many friends who aren’t that skilled, and guess what, I don’t think less of them, we just team up and have fun together. That’s all.

Those of us asking for something more -something harder, something that takes longer, more comittment, yes even More skill, are NOT infringing upon your enjoyment of the game.

Ah, but that’s where you’re mistaken.
By creating content that requires grinding gear, they’re not working on the things that I care about. It is infringing upon my enjoyment of the game.

I want them to improve the story. I want them to improve dungeons and general PvE to be more challenging and encourage coordination with other players. By constantly updating the game to provide bigger numbers in gear and the content that goes with it, they won’t be working on the things that matter to me.

It also affects my enjoyment of the game when my friends can’t play with me because they don’t have the armor needed to do the content I’m at.

Right now you can already grind gear and achievements, and crafting, and exploration, and fractals, and WvW rank, and PvP rank. There’s a lot to grind progress for your character, if that’s your thing.

By bringing more grinding-style content, it means that the things I care about won’t be in the game since developers won’t have time to make them.

You are also making a mistake by assuming “getting stronger and nicer looking gear” equals harder content or more skill. It doesn’t. In fact, harder content and more skilled gameplay is exactly what I want ANet to put in Gw2 like they did with Gw1. Grinding gear won’t provide that.

All I am asking for is something akin to dungeoning/raiding with tier gear that is associated with difficulty. The more difficult the dungeon the better the items and the better they look.

So let me get this right, you want to have fun and challenging dungeons. Well ain’t that great, me too! In fact I want it in all of PvE.

In addition to that, you also want item rewards. What kind of items would you like that don’t currently exist in Gw2? We have a lot of stuff right now. Don’t tell me you’ve already gotten all of them, I know you didn’t ;-)

But why do armor numbers have to keep increasing? Gw1 was so good about giving progression without inflation, I don’t see why Gw2 has to revert to how other games do it.

If whatever “requirements” there are to achieve these items are too steep of a price for you to pay so what, what skin is it off your back. Are you simply afraid that the folks that do achieve the better items will then have an UNFAIR advantage over you in PVP? I feel sorry for you, really I do.

It doesn’t matter if the requirements are too steep or if the items fall on my lap for free, either way I just don’t want to have stats that are always increasing!
I just don’t want items to keep increasing in power forever. To me it’s irrelevant if it’s easy or difficult to get, if it takes two years or 30 seconds.

Okay make all PVE dungeon/raid gear default to static stats when entering PVP.

Yes, Gw1 did that. Gw2 only does it for sPvP but not for WvW.

The game already auto levels anyhow.

You know, I would like it if you could get upscalled and downscalled, so your level and gear is irrelevant.

Reading your thread, it seems Path of Exile is the game your guild is looking for.
Endless progression, and endless content from map drops. You have to keep trying to get high level Map drops with good mods so you can keep progressing.

That’s not the kind of game I would normally play, but I’m glad I gave it a try. I’ve been having fun so far. I created a character similar to a Guardian, and actually like it a lot better.

Once I get to the point where grinding becomes necessary to progress, I’ll just either stop playing, or create a newbie character again. I’m not going to go cry on the forums asking them to stop gear progression just for my sake. I know the game was designed for people who like grinding (hell, even the company is called Grinding Gear Games)

I prefer “fair” games where there’s a level playing field and you win based on your own skill and ability, rather than how much free time you have to farm gear and level up.
I like it if progression eventually ends so I can start actually dedicating my time to becoming more skilled.
I want to win because I became a good fighter, not because I own better gear.

I like horizontal progression so that if I win, I know it’s because of my own skill, and if I lose, I try to figure out what I did wrong and practice to do better next time.

In Gw1 I’d say I spent about a couple months on character progression, but after that it was 5+ years of becoming a better player: learning how to use my skills, learning how to counter certain enemies, how to not crush under pressure, learning how to use terrain to my advantage, positioning relative to teammates and enemies, learning which enemy should be priority targets, learning how to work in a team taking into account all of our individual strengths and weaknesses, etc. And then, of course, each profession’s individual tricks.

This is why I loved Gw1.
If I had to spend all my gaming time farming gear and leveling up, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to learn so much and become a more skilled player.

I’d say the majority of loyal fans who came to Gw2 from Gw1 wanted a level playing field, horizontal progression, “player skill over time spent” and “player skill over gear” just like Gw1. After reading blog posts and watching interviews for years, we came to Gw2 with those expectations, so we react angrily when an “outsider” comes here and asks for even more gear progression that Gw2 already has.
In part because we know “outsiders” don’t understand that philosophy from Gw1, and in part because we feel that Gw2 has already stepped on our toes so much, to please the “outsiders” rather than the loyal fans.

But regardless, it seems like anet has one foot in midair, threading a fine line between not angering Gw1 fans, and trying to give gear progression fans what they want. Not just that, but all other aspects of these kind of games.

But of course, it’s a different, new game, it’s up to ANet to decide how they want their game to be. Though it makes me sad that they lost that philosophy, it’s their money, their business, their game to do as they wish. I just wish they hadn’t lied to us and used us to spread the word about Gw2, then do a complete back-flip on us and toss us aside once they got what they wanted.

But they’ve already gone too far, I there’s no turning back now.

If you didn’t play Gw1 I don’t think you would understand. It’s a very different philosophy. But I really do think you’ll like Path of Exile. Though the gear doesn’t look as pretty, maybe it will look better when the game’s released (right now it’s in open beta).

So stick around Gw2 and see if they give you what you want. I have a feeling they will. But it will take time, because they’re being really wishy washy about it.

Or, you could just go and play a game that has what you like.

The game is enjoyable enough if you have some minutes to spare and want to kill some bad guys, like an arcade shoot ‘em up.
But it’s not the type of game that would make me remember it fondly decades later.

I remember many arcade shooters fondly. But GW2’s dungeons is not comparable to arcade games of old because they are far too short.

Haha, I wasn’t trying to imply that games where you “just kill the bad guys” can’t be fun and memorable. Otherwise Mario Brothers wouldn’t have been a success :-)

I mean that in a game like Gw2, it can’t be just about killing the bad guys. There has to be something else to make you come back and keep playing.

To give you an example, there’s a lot of the Fire Emblem games that weren’t released in USA.
It’s a turn-based strategy game, the classes and combat work pretty much the same in all the games. They’d be easy to play if you’re already familiar with the game concepts, even if you don’t understand Japanese. So I offered to look online for those games that weren’t released in USA, and buy them for my husband (and I) to play.
But he was outraged that I would suggest that, because while it’s true that he’d be able to play and beat the games, what matters to him is the story, the struggle the characters go through, how the character’s personality develops, that sort of thing. But since he can’t understand Japanese he wouldn’t be able to enjoy those aspects of the game, so he said he’d rather not play the games at all.

That’s how I feel about Gw2. While the combat can be fun, that sort of game needs something else to keep you coming back.
For those who like to grind the best gear, they can grind it all they want in this game (I’m sure ANet will keep adding new, more powerful ones). For those who like scoring all the achievements, they can do that. ANet will surely add more and more achievements. But for those of us who need a good story and character development to keep us hooked… we’re out of luck :-) We bought the wrong game. And I bet the PvPers feel the same way about PvP :-P

The game is enjoyable enough if you have some minutes to spare and want to kill some bad guys, like an arcade shoot ‘em up.
But it’s not the type of game that would make me remember it fondly decades later.

Mechanics wise, there’s the fact that I can’t change my build at will. (Grind)
I can only change my traits at Trainers. I have to waste time teleporting and walking around.
I also need to own a variety of armors to go with each build. It’s very expensive, so as a casual player I can’t afford to have more than one or two builds!
You can’t save templates, so it takes a lot of time to set up each build every time you change it.

I can deal with having less skills than Gw1. But not being able to change my setup as the mood strikes just makes things feel even more limited than they actually are.

Jack of all trades, master of none
ANet spread out the game too thin. They tried to do a lot at once, leaving a lot of things half-baked.

Lack of depth, and connection to the world
The player isn’t sucked into the world. While NPCs speak with you and you do things around the world, it’s always through a veil, as if you’re just some nobody who’ll be gone in a week and no one will remember you.

There’s a lot of good games that really immerse me in the world. Games I can’t play without grinning ear to ear, feeling happiness or sadness for the character’s situation as if they were my best friend, feeling crazy disappointment when our efforts are thwarted by the enemy, wanting to punch the screen as if it were the evil boss, feeling deep sorrow when something dreadful happens. Holding my breath in anticipation of fighting the end boss…

Basically, it makes me feel as if I were the character, not a person playing a character. I feel the game as if it were happening to me personally. That’s what a good game does.

If Gw2 became only 15% of the size it is now, but the world felt a lot more meaningful, I would want to play it for thousands of hours even if that meant repeating content over and over.

When playing Gw1, Elder Scrolls, or a lot of other games that have been through my hands, I really feel as if I’m that character on the screen. The more I play, the more real the character and the world seems.
In Gw2, the more I play, the less real the character and the world feel.

Nothing glues players together
When playing, even friends seem to be playing tug of war with each other. The game makes you wander from each other. But even if manage to stick together the whole time and do the quests together, it doesn’t feel as if you’re in it together.

Two students working on a project -> working with each other. Two students sitting next to each other but only doing their own homework -> just happen to be next to each other. Gw2 feels like players are just next to each other, not playing with each other.

It would be good if the quests made people naturally team up and coordinate with each other. Is it really fun to escort a caravan next to each other, and then killing enemies as they get close? No, not really.
But what if the quest asked some people to go ahead of the group and find a boat, so once the merchants get to the river they can cross it? And once you find a boat, it’s stuck in some rocks; some of the people need to try and grab the boat, and the others have to protect them from monsters? That’s organic coordination, and unlike the overly simple quests in Gw2, makes you feel excited when you’re done, whether you win or fail.

In Plains of Ashford, when you’re picking up misplaced tools and metal bars… it’s probably one of the most boring quests in Gw2. What if instead, some people pick those things up and bring them to the tool box, and some people get a quest to assign those weapons to soldiers?

The important thing is that those things are required at the same time, not one after the other.

Obviously these things require the game to check if there’s active players around you. If not, the quest would go as if they were for just 1 person (one after the other).

Can’t play with all my friends
I have friends both in EU and USA. ANet forced me to choose one side over the other, no matter what side I choose I lose half my gaming friends.

This last bit was the nail in the coffin :-P

Everything seems to be a checklist (Grind)
Hearts, events. Exploration, achievements. Dailies/Monthlies. Crafting, I have enough checklists in real life. I don’t want my game to be another job.

I know, “no one is forced to complete those things”. I agree. So I don’t. But it seems like that’s the goal of the game. Once you remove those checklists, what’s left in the game? What’s the core element that entices someone to login and play…?

One issue I can spot is that unlike Gw2, story missions aren’t repeatable. I could go back and do Borlis Pass or Divinity Coast, or whatever. My friends and I did it all the time, just for the kick of it. Could also help newer players and make friends, because we often had an empty spot or two in the party

With story missions not being repeatable, you just don’t have that “hey, maybe I should go back and repeat this fun mission!”. Since we have an open world now, going back for story missions would likely mean that players would stick around for a bit and do a couple of events here and there.

Though actually, to be completely honest, gw2 story missions are so awfully boring I doubt anyone would want to go back and repeat them

I don’t think the problem is loot. Do you really play a game for the loot? I mean, chess has no loot, unless you kill the enemy after you win and steal his wallet and iPod? I woud say the vast majority of players don’t care about loot, they just care about playing. So maybe ANet should give the question a look from that angle.

ANet counts logins to see how many active players there are.
So according to them I’m an active player.

I login, play with my armor’s dyes, stand around reading chat, then alt-tab to firefox and log out 2 hours later.

I may login every day but most of the time I just have the program running while I do the dishes or clean the toilet (more fun than gw2… just kidding, just kidding :P)

What kinds of things do you miss from GW 1?

Protection monks
Domination mesmers
Being able to repeat story missions
My sexy ritualist (and all the sexy builds I made for him!)
Interesting armors (mostly played light classes and some medium)
Challenging combat
Teamwork
Coordinating skills with friends, making goofy team builds for AB on the spur of the moment
Refundable attribute points so I don’t have to go to the trainer every time I want to try a new build. I like playing more than 5 builds per character everyday, maybe even more, but in gw2 I’m stuck with 1 build
My red crab pet
HA and GvG

Yeah, God forbid I can actually see what I’m doing in game! No, we must have useless stuff covering two thirds of the screen.

I gave a suggestion before that you could tick in Options which items you want hidden. For me, pesonally, I would want to hide Skill Bar, Event List, Experience Bar, all buttons on the top left corner, enemy health bar and their status effects at the top of the screen.

That means that the only thing I want to see are the mini map and the skill activation bar (the yellow bar that shows when you use a long activation skill).

The kicker is that ANet could implement this like “hidden unless ou hover with the mouse”. So you wouldn’t have to go to Options and tick each interface element everytime you want to see your quest. All you’d have to do is move your mouse to the top right, and it would pop up. If you had hidden the mini map, you’d move your mouse to the bottom right and it would pop up. Or the option buttons at the top left? You move your mouse the and it pops up.

This would give us what we want, while also being thoughtful towards those who aren’t so good at tweaking the settings. If they forget how to disable the option, it’s no big deal because they can just move the mouse to see the story (and other interface elements)

Right now what I do is I set my Caps Lock to permanent Off, and when I push it, it triggers the keys ctrl-shift-h and hides the interface. If I need the interface again, I just push Caps Lock again.

I still would like this option though, because when I do this I miss the mini-map and the Interact bubble.

I hate these threads. People are so driven by what items

I’m not.

If you don’t like PvP

I like Pvp just not this one. “cap point” is boring to me.

WvW

WvW is lots better thankfully. I do feel it’s too complex so I don’t always understand what’s going on. I try though No one ever wants to team up though. It’s weird going alone. Teaming up I could see what conditions and boons they have, their health, and so on.

exploration

exploration? why would I explore? I could just go outside my own door and explore. I generally like questing and boss hunting (in other games) and that sort of stuff, if that’s what you meant.

dungeons

I love dungeons but not the ones in gw2. Only high Hp enemies and no challenge only boredom.

They just added fractals and already you’re sick of them?

Sick of them? I’ve only done one level and only got to the place with 3 wasps or wisps or whatever. Not really interested in doing more if it’s just more of “guess the puzzle which has no logic to it” and fighting more high hp monsters. Heck there’s other dungeons I still haven’t done because frankly I don’t want to waste 4 hours fighting high HP enemies (or however long they take; it’s been a while) just to feel like I had no fun at all at the end

Everyone whines about “not enough endgame”

I don’t think that’s the issue, gw1 barely had any endgame until 2007 yet people played it all the time. There’s lots to do in this game, I have no complaint about lack of things to do. Actually I think it’s really silly they keep adding content, I wish they didn’t, since there’s so much they need to work on to make the rest of the game fun

but how many dungeons do you need before it’s “enough?”

how about they go for quality over quantity? right now we have so many more dungeons then we ever had in gw1 but they’re so boring.

There are plenty of things to do: go for 100% map completion, join a guild, make some in-game friends, try PvP, shoot for an achievement, level crafting, play the TP market, roll an alt or 2, etc.

Done and done, and it wasn’t that fun :S Probably won’t be here next year as I’ll be busy and probably without internet but I hope they fix this mess.

dungeons are challenging enough to keep things interesting, alot of other games have no learning curve a monkey can play them.

That’s how I think about this game, that any monkey can play it :P
Proof? I’m a monkey at video games. ^^

Love posts like these.

if you feel there’s nothing else to do in an mmo most likely it’s mmo burnout and not the current game you’re playing.

Go make some cookies, plant a vegetable garden, read a book would be my suggestion.

Love posts like these.
You should make less assumptions about people.

How can it be MMO burn out when this only the second MMO I’ve played in 10 years?

And yeah, I’ve cooked already, I cook 3 times per day and it’s all vegetables and meats from scratch. Did the dishes too. A laundry basket full of dishes after each meal, which I wash and dry by hand. Started fermenting my cabbage and carrots for next week and fed my sourdough culture so it’s ready for tomorrow’s pumpkin pancakes. Also hanged some fresh milk with cheesecloth to make cream cheese which we’ll eat with my sourdough bread this week.

There’s nothing to do in the garden this time of the year?! Hello, it’s december? I already harvested the vegetables and preserved them and put them in storage. I also already built the raised garden beds so they’re ready for february next year. I already made my garden plans too including To-do list for each month. Just waiting for the seed catalog to come out now.

I’ve already read so many books, I research a lot of topics so read atleast 5 books per week.

It’s saturday morning so I also Skyped my family who live overseas, spoke with friends online, and in the afternoon I went out with a friend.

Well, what else would you like to know about my life?

Anyway, so now here I am, wanting to play a game. But there’s really no point to anything and I do and it’s really difficult to play with friends in this game. I already have one Lv 80. I’m trying to play again, don’t get me wrong, for the gazillionth time I’m trying again, but it’s kinda… boring. If only there was challenge and playing with friends, this would be lots of fun. Lots! But alone? I’m in a guild, got on-and-offline friends who play, but no one actually plays together because there’s no point. So… alone, it’s just boring.

Oh, Nels, I’d probably like sPvP, I just don’t think my skill is up to it yet. I can’t recognize most skill animations, havê trouble dodging at the right time, and don’t have much practise countering other professions. So I’m going to hold off until I’m better.

Thanks for the invite :-). I’ll be logging in soon.

Name: Juun (pronounced “June”)

Main Character: Juun 26 / Slightly Mad Juun 10 / Monad Juun 80 (sorry, I don’t “do” main characters)

Current Server: Tarnished Coast (willing to move)

Interested Activities: General PvE and leveling (I don’t care where, I just love to play together), Dungeons, WvW. I’m not good enough for sPvP.
I don’t like farming and grinding.

Active:
Generally weekdays 18 GMT to 21 GMT

Additional Comments:
None of my 3 microphones work properly (it must be something with the computer). But if you don’t mind hearing annoying static sound or asking “say that again?” all the time, then I’ll use voice chat :-P

Are you willing to participate in Operation: UNION’S project, Y/N?: Yes

The New GW2 Flavor Rocks!

Mate, no one runs dungeons for cosmetic rewards. People want shinies with stats, not just shinies.

Mate, did you ever play GW1? You could get the best stat gear very cheaply when you were halfway through the game story-wise. Yet people went out of their way to farm the most expensive prestige armors which only had different looks, no better stats. Obsidian armor? Vabbian armor? Chaos gloves? Volatic spears? They gave no advantage, yet many people tried very hard to get those
People would grind for the looks, even farming so much so they could have Obsidian on all their characters.

(To give you an idea how expensive it is, I was playing for 7 years and still couldn’t afford it myself ^^ )

Zii I think your old girlfriend owes you sixty dollars!

Like you I’ve been considering card games too. Have a couple of friends who play Magic, I might give it a try :-) Never been much into collecting cards so I overlooked that game. Now I’m reading about how to play it!

Hey ANet, could you give me 60 dollars, or send me a bunch of Magic cards?

Ah, so you’re living in your parents basement while they pay for everything? That’s the life, no independence at all

Doubt it.
I identify with what he said and next year I’m building a $500 Alaska-weather-proof house with my own two hands (not in Alaska though, New England), raise chickens, goats for milk and meat, grow all of my vegetables and fruits, preserve all my food for the winter, and I will barter/trade with a neighboring farm for beef, maple syrup or honey, and hay for the winter. Entertainment will consist of chopping wood, playing music, dancing and singing with friends!

Trading my laptop for a heating/cooking woodstove and then I will say, “good bye cruel world!”.

Hopefully I will make it good enough that I can take care of my mother, my boyfriend’s parents, and give the extra food to the local community so my town can have healthy children.

I don’t want to live the same ugly and meaningless life treadmill every one else lives, I want something better for my health and my soul.

Bet you didn’t expect that, uh?! :P Some of us have been there and realized this “civilized treadmill” isn’t all there is to live. I had that lifestyle and my health suffered, now I’m healthier and learned what’s truly important. (The doctors and drug companies you put your faith on only made me more and more sick!)

On topic… I wouldn’t really bother taking time off to “enjoy” these events, better to give ANet time to work out the bugs. I don’t think it’s time well spent when it’s so buggy and confusing. I just search on YouTube for the cinematic and read the Wiki to understand what’s going on. ANet will never say “oh don’t bother taking time off work, it’s not going to be some huge deal” because that’s just anti-climatic

^^
