The only fractal I’ll use it on is volcanic.
why not sw/sw + sw/f
In the ‘save the prisoners’ bit, it provides a ranged cripple and quite good distance knockback, and that’s very helpful. I’ll swap it off for the boss though.
or you can
temporal curtain
magic bullet
signet of domination
On the final boss, I use it because of 2 bugs: wardens and boss cam. If the boss cam bug was fixed (I haven’t done that fractal in ages), then it should be fine to melee. However, with that bug the boss ends up out of your actual FoV, making it simply too difficult to distinguish skill animations. That area is also one of the areas in the game where the warden bug rate approaches >75%, making the standard Mesmer melee defense against it very spotty.
boss cam is fixed. I did grawl 38 with like a 10AR guard and did pretty much fine as well, so there’s no excuse not to melee when you can dodge the love arrows (you don’t reflect those anyway) and dodge/frenzy some of the other skills.
“How do you melee Old Tom? By the way don’t give me any actual effective melee tactics”
off the top of my head:
ZERO
maybe we need to initiate stage two of greatsword purification.
i think you should stop mesmer recruitment

The community cries that ArenaNet ignore them, we get ArenaNet support for a dungeon tournament, and people just cry and drop out.
It’s actually ^^^^ing pathetic, GG guys, cry more about how ANet ignores you but then don’t make an effort when you’re given an opportunity.
I’m not talking about DPS. You wanna talk dps now? Okay, the DPS on guardian is way less either way you don’t see it because you’re not accounting the cooldowns, the number of moves meant for damage, and how the damage gets delivered. Those three are completely different on both classes, which is why warrior deals more damage, maybe you should look into that. I’m going to cease replying on this thread since everyone wants everyone to shut up.
You compared the damage of two skills and claimed one did 12,000 damage and the other did 7,000 damage. I informed you of the cast times of the skills, and asked you which one deals more damage. To save you the trouble, your whirling wrath on its own had a DPS of 9,333 and your hundred blades had a DPS of 3,428. When I compared the DPS of autoattack chains on guardian and warrior, I got 3,402 with guardian GS and 3,448 with warrior.
I can’t even remember if that was with unscathed contender on the guardian or not – but the point is this:
Scale up the damage to account for 25 might, 25 vuln, banners etc. and you’ll get pretty similar damage. Guardian pulls ahead if it has unscathed contender – the advantage with warrior is that if you are in a group incapable of buffing effectively, it can sustain 20+ might stacks with signet of rage, for great justice and forceful greatsword – when you allow the guardian to get the same buffs, the damage evens out. So basically – a guardian without unscathed contender does around 900 less DPS than a maximum DPS warrior, so it ’s not “way less” damage at all.
I bet warrior is the highest damage class too, and the best groups are either 4 warriors and a mesmer, or a guardian.
don’t h8, we did a 3-hour dungeon tour with 4w1g, you just roll your face over your keyboard and easy mode every fight :p
So let’s get this straight – you think 12,000 damage over 3.5 seconds is higher DPS than 7,000 damage over 0.75 seconds.
Mobs that use attacks designed to stop stacking. Do it, Arenanet.
Things like the Queen Spider in AC, with the poison field, just magnified many times.
Or how about we not have one-shotting area denial attacks (your implied suggestion, not the actual current spider queen) and ANet come up with something slightly more interesting. Risen Illusionist chaos storm are well designed in regards to its power, CC, condition and boon application, for example (though should have an actual .5s cast time so you can actually interrupt it).
Dodging enemies specifically could also break the stacking meta that exists in dungeons. That would be exciting!
1. Dodging enemies currently exist in dungeons in this game
2. We already stack on them
3. ????
Dungeons don’t need to be harder, they need to be more random!!! Random Bosses, trash mods, traps & loot all at random locations. Make players find loot don’t reward it, that will end the gold speed runs!!!! Heck just create some hallways with 50 doors, any dungeon run would have 20 random doors, each may contain a Boss, trash mob, traps or treasure, that would be better than what we have now.
That doesn’t sound like Guild Wars 2 to me. Maybe you should play something else. And maybe you should have a long think about how RNG dungeons are literally impossible to implement in this game.
The next paragraph had some examples.
this:
GS is still a great weapon, just not optimal for dungeons/fractals unless range is absolutely needed.
is what i was asking for examples of

Wall of reflection isn’t necessary for hunter/crusher yet it is a nice quality of life for the party. Do you use it?
Y/N
What do you mean isn’t necessary, the autoattack kittening immobilizes, I would rage with a force of a thousand blinding suns if something wasn’t blocking it.
People can cleanse, block or dodge it.
Like I said, wall there is a quality of life thing.
He doesn’t know what that encounter is though so i’ll explain it quickly:
It’s a pair of bosses in the third path of Arah – the crusher is a legendary boss with a slow two-piece slam attack which will hit a glass cannon character for I believe two ticks of 55,000 damage (this attack is extremely choreographed) – the hunter is a champion level boss who fires a poison cloud on to the crusher which deals DoT to players standing inside of it and has an auto-attack like the thief shortbow except it cripples its first target and then immobilises the next. Every now and then if people are in melee range of the hunter it will dodge back and drop a trap in its place which applies bleeds and more immobilise. The whole setup of the encounter is that the hunter locks players down and then the crusher one-shots everything in its cleave radius.
So I’ll ask again:
Do you take wall? To emphasise – it’s not necessary. It’s not necessary at all. But it’s quality of life.
Wall of reflection isn’t necessary for hunter/crusher yet it is a nice quality of life for the party. Do you use it?

“lack of damage” indeed
;)
ill add myself to the raffle

Wow, almost all of that Guanglai Kangyi, was a complete strawman. I think virtually none of what you just said actually represents the position of people in favor of a trinity. I guess that’s what makes it easy to beat up on./
Actually it does. People endlessly complain that “the game is just DPS”. They literally want to spam heals and not do damage. Their objection is with the fact that they are expected to do damage. They want to afk in the back line and spam heal skill off cooldown.
I’ve played GW1 for years, and I enjoyed the trinity in that game. It wasn’t perfect, because constantly needing monks was quite a chore, and I’m glad that’s gone. But it also had it’s positive sides, like roles, inter-class dependency, and depth to the combat. And I like that. I feel that the current game was stripped of a lot of depth, and it leaves me unfulfilled.
You see inter-class dependency as a plus, I don’t. I don’t want to have to rely on anyone. And for as “stripped of depth” as the GW2 combat supposedly is, ANet won’t even add a combo field finisher priority system because they think it would confuse people – so clearly “in-depth” combat isn’t an option if something so minor can’t even be added.
I think I play my class pretty well. But in PVE I quickly noticed just how little effect Toughness has at higher levels. I think this problem is known to many, which is why so many go full damage. While theoretically you can build a tank, the balance isn’t right, and you’re better off maximizing your damage instead of your defense. The pay off is higher towards the damage spectrum.
Do I need to dig up the no-dodge Arah path 2 defensive builds video again?
I had to reply to this and say that; in almost any case, if you’re getting kicked as a guardian, its one of four things:
2- You’re not being a guardian, which means supplying boons, offering protection, and healing.
supplying boons, offering protection, and healing.
offering protection, and healing.
healing
healing
why
do people
think guardians are meant to heal
From a quick look at my recordings I have a 7,637 damage reckless dodge against magecrusher with 24 stacks of might, 3 vuln, and 6 bleeds (attack of opportunity), banner of discipline, 100+ power/70+ prec food, slaying potion and the old 30/25 build.
So on a low armour target with max buffs I’m pretty sure it’s possible.
That was 30/25 though, phalanx builds are lacking like … 25% in damage modifiers so it seems a little more sketchy there.

Get used to it. People don’t do the dungeon cause they enjoy it. They do it just for the gold behind it.
You will run, skip and spam 1 on white globes full of colored light that hides 5 players and a boss in it.
I’m not even sure why people like you keep commenting. It’s obvious that you guys don’t understand that not everyone plays for the same reasons and not everyone takes the game as a “MUST STRUGGLE FOR GOLDZ!44!!” and actually play it because they enjoy it.
Because its not the experience you get in game. More than 50% of the times, as soon as ANYTHING goes wrong or is not in the right amount of speed, people starts leaving the party or suggesting kick to the guy who took the wrong way or is playing with a different weap/skill set. I really don’t get the feeling people enjoying the dungeon. Actually, its hard to see that when most champions inside dungeons are just ignored.
I really wish what you say is true, but it only applies to a minority, at least at the time I’m on.
50% of the time… wow those statisitics.
I just don’t know what game you’re pugging in. When I pug and things go wrong people don’t leave or get angry. They laugh the first time, try again, if fail, reevaluate tactics, try again, if fail, try again, if fail, THEN the anger and frustration happens
You really need statistics to be perfectly accurate? its just a way of saying it anyway. You knew what I meant so I take your reply was kind of childish to be honest.
I don’t know what kind of rainbow game you play in. Yesterday I had 3 people left the party just because one guy had to travel from Hoelbrak, to LA, to BC, to enter Ascalon map to join in AC story mode while playing one of my lowbies alt. Not 1, but 3 players left in that period of time because, waiting for someone running to the dungeon is such a waste of time… the community in this game has its ups and down, but the trend generated by the meta is moving players to the down side.
Strange, that’s never happened to me and I pug quite a lot.
Oh look, we’re both giving anecdotal evidence. So how about this:
“Some people are impatient and others aren’t” – let’s not making sweeping generalisations about the attitudes of the pug community if we have nothing to back them up – the only thing you could honestly say was fact in regard to pugging is that most players are bad, but that’s pretty much it.
I have 5 potions I send to 4 other party members. Support?
Yes. Next?
People want defensive support to be used more commonly. That means the game has to be much harder and less solo-able. It should require from your team to support you so the lone person is no longer able to complete the group content. Make mobs strong enough that you need defensive support and resilient enough that you can’t just burst them.
Fractals of the Mists. You can still solo/duo some of them despite the HP and damage being throttled up at higher levels.
Whenever a wipe occurs, I understand the temptation to pin the blame on one person to spare everyone else the anxiety of having their own performance looked at, as well as the trouble of analyzing what precisely went wrong, and that someone is almost always the guardian. More often than not, when the guardian’s blamed, he’s instantly kicked with no explanation offered. Usually if any qualifying information prefaces the kick, it’s ‘use wall’.
Now I know in some situations, e.g. the 3 champs before the final boss in Sorrow’s Embrace, a wall is near enough mandatory. There are others where the wall might be preferable for some players and their preferred strategy, but in my opinion it’s not appropriate to insist that another player accommodate that preference in their skill set, on pain of being booted from the group. One of the reasons I like this game so much more than WoW is the flexibility it allows in build selection and styles of play.
For my own part, I don’t like equipping WOR except in situations like the one above where it’s so useful as to be almost necessary. It jars against the rest of my build and the way I like to play. But way too often after a wipe someone says ‘guard, wall’, I begin thinking of a way to politely explain that I don’t like to use it before I’m kicked a few seconds later. No discussion. No alternatives considered. In many cases the player has failed to understand that the wall is only effective against projectiles and isn’t a general protective shield. Instead, the simplistic thinking is: A wipe occurred, there’s a guardian who could’ve used wall but didn’t, he must be the cause and therefore he’s out.
Don’t like this attitude. Am I alone??!!
You perform group content, and don’t fulfill the wishes of the group. They had every right to kick you. If you’d rather be selfish and run your own little build than help your group, you probably shouldn’t be doing content with parties.
I would honestly swap out rending strikes for furious speed if you’re practicing so that you never have a reason to eviscerate – and if you do use a burst skill, cast your signet of fury to regain your berserker’s power.
my opinion is:
don’t be afraid to hundred blades more (like, a lot more, hb/ww is the whole reason camping gs is a thing), and don’t use burst skills for endurance, deal with your situation as if lupicus is doing nothing (so canned, vacuum dps rotations) until he actually does something – then take evasive measures. that’ll cut your kill times by like half – speeding up your kill speed is literally all in your rotations – barring the force and night sigils, we are all playing with exactly the same gear and build, just some people do it better.
it depends on how many on-crit procs your build has. if on-crits aren’t a big part of it, you can honestly just go dire.
Passive modifiers are now support? You seem to jest. I guess food and potions are also support.
sigh.
passive, party-wide modifiers.
dont they have like 0 armour?
“every trick in the book” is not helpful advice when talking to someone who does not know every trick
thats because almost everyone in this game is completely ignorant on how the combat works and gets carried by the one competent player in the party while they sit there mashing keys hoping everything dies
and then when told that there’s more to combat than “just dps” they attribute support to “doing more dps” which is exactly what applies in trinity games (tank holds aggro so ppl can do more dps), or they say "well thats not depth its just uninteresting (a.k.a they dislike it)
this will go around in circles
and neither side will agree
my tip is
if you dislike the combat, stop playing the game
if you like it, carry on
They aren’t exactly ignorant. You can complete a large portion of the content with full warriors team that bring nothing except dps since fgj and banners are not support. Heck, you can solo “end-game” arah p2 with nothing except dps. So how’s that not “just dps”?
This game could really use some changes, like increasing pressure on players so they actually have to think about survivability and a teamwork that could come with it. Even condition pressure or increased cc from enemy side could be nice addition.
Conclusion: mobs need to be more diverse and less vulnerable to burst.
except might, fury and passive modifiers are support
just because it’s completely braindead how a phalanx warrior can literally press 2 to 25 might the party doesnt mean it isnt support
(edited by maha.7902)
Mind you, a well played condition warrior soloing arah will still dump on an average-ly played berserker warrior. It’s when both are played to a decent level that it goes zerkburger > condi
was wondering why the hands didnt do anything

Your build is viable, literally any build is viable in PvE – it just isn’t optimal. If you’re in a decent group you’ll have 25 stacks of might too which is 875 condition damage which allows your phantasms to do nice direct damage with some decent condition on the side,
anet make it happen
the only time you should ever get upset in pug runs is if people do things just so inexplicably stupid or are just outright sabotaging the group – minor errors, I say just get over it, pugs aren’t going to ever be perfect.
but its actually ez pz
Do a non fgs berserker ele solo with offensive utilities, equipment and traits please.
cry more
Just showing you how kittened the idea of removing fgs without giving elementalists something as refund is, at least seen from a balance point of view.
except this game is balanced around group content, not solo content, and in group content, it trivialises encounters. this has nothing to do with the thread anyway, so let’s move on.

i have a solo i did like yesterday which i need to upload
but its actually ez pz, you LoS him around where lyssa is in p4 and just pre-emptively dodge the gunk
go krytan chestpiece
hella gud
this guy actually thinks heavy armour makes a difference of any relevance
Conditions ignore armor – so it doesn’t matter light or heavy the damage from conditions is the same.
The Trinity would make this game dull and boring like all other games with the trinity. If you want the trinity, go play a game with the trinity.
i dont think you realise i am agreeing with you
“if they left then their opinion no longer matters because they’re not really part of GW2 any-more are they? ” Yes they very much are because they are possible GW2 players. If this is the thing that pushed them away it is also what can get them back
And it will push others like me away if they introduce moronic forced “roles” in to the game.
They have to think of both sides, and personally I think it makes more sense to cater to your happy/content population than catering to whiners who will be satisfied with a “fix” and then carry on whining about the next new thing.
you should be able to reach ~4.8k dmg bleeds with that build too
needs more human female
it should be moved to trash can, where mesmers belong with necros
<3
or just disable fgs from the dungeon
or just remove it from the game
i like the second one
Arah pugs are horrible today. Had pugs for p2 which managed to get up to 7 stacks empowered on him every time…
solo it
