That’s all very well and good, but that’s still based on the assumption that it’s the fault of a third party. It could still very easily be something on Arena Net’s end. Either way the lack of any commentary or feedback is disheartening.

In away when every I start to think about to highest level of game play I always start to think about competitive play be it WvW, sPvP or PvE. And is seems to come through in my ideas for high end play.
Back on non offensive focused play, PvE high end game play and looking at mechanic designs?
One thought I’ve resonantly be thinking about was the build locking in dungeons like sPvP matches. Groups would require builds to complete the whole dungeon not just a build for each encounter. With this and dungeon design I could see non offensive focused play being desired as although not optimal for each individual encounter/mechanic there could help group performance over the whole dungeon. This could increase the challenge and as I believe would make dungeon take longer and as the time investment has increase so should the rewards.
This build locking could carry over into open world as well. Although as a build experimenter I love the ability to change whenever I feel I started to notice that instead of just playing I’m respecing for each & every encounter. A case of too much freedom.
So in away I would like build locking back as I’ve been thinking this constant respecing flavours the offensive focused player as you can always adjust before each encounter. Only bring the bare minimum of defence & support. As you can bring everything you need there’s no need for you non offensive friend that has it always on.
So maybe something in between just out of combat and only at a trainer. Something to make it close and easy to do but you need to go out of your way. So you might think about it in a camp or town but once out in the field you can just play.
- Instance content could be easy giving players the option to do unlock or lock giving the incentive to play lock with better rewards.
- Open world builds could be locked unless in a friendly camp or town or there could be items or builds when near lock your build and you need to leave the area or destroy them before you can respec.
On a whole I find open world play the hardest with build locking And don’t really think it could work or really like it with the way the GW2 build system works I only really would look at build locking for competitive play so it’s about player skill and not how fast players can respec before each encounter.
We had builds locked for almost two years and still ran full offensive or offensive support builds.
Have you forgotten this already?
What is this exclusive armour set enlighten me quick Lilith.
New pvp all stars tournament. Basically first prize through third get all or pieces of an exclusive pvp armor set that will only be rewarded in future tournaments. So it is armor basically reserved for the top pvp players and no one else.
pvp is true skill sick of carrying skrubs in my daily fractal 1 l2p haha bads get rekt
But what if you just dodge the big hits? You don’t need vitality.
And why would you need healing when everyone has their own heal?
I’m just confused here, it’s like you want to invest in a selfish HP stat and then a healing stat you’ll never use.
How does vitality support your party when it gives you more health?
Mob positioning, reflect, condition cleanse, stability, daze, stun and quickness all fall under support and control and don’t require healing or vitality in any way.

bonus – didn’t kill any of the bosses with FGS
What?
Players have 100% control over when their interrupts will work, people just misuse their CC all the time by just spamming all of their skills off cooldown.
Defiant is fine the way it is – we just need there to be attacks worth interrupting (and which can not be dealt with any other way) for it to be worthwhile. Take for example Mai Trin and the undodgeable pistol shot or the unblockable fields from Horrik, apply something like that to a boss with a clear choreograph (so you have enough time to react) and which can’t be blocked or dodged. Interrupting it sets the skill on say, a 40 second cooldown or something – and in order to make it appropriate risk/reward, maybe it one-shots most glass cannons to downed state (make it an amount of damage rather than percentage) but tankier characters can survive it if they mess up.
But if you play dungeon there’s nothing worse for a guardian than the support/bunker build.
That’s why no one want a ‘support’ guardian in team for medium/high rated dungeons (arah, fotm, etc).
This would be more accurate.
A guardian that is focussed on DPS still provides large amounts of support through traits and utilities while at the same time actually contributing to killing things quickly and efficiently.
The current meta for dungeons is 4/5/0/0/5 (Max Utility) with some people opting for moderations for more damage, eg. (4/6/2/0/2). This includes full berserker gear with scholar runes and GS + Sword/focus setup. The link I posted earlier will explain in full how this all works.

I would love for this to happen but I believe the chances are very slim.
Here’s why I think so:
1.) No dungeon team. Rest in Peace lord Robert Hrouda, our one and only saviour. May he be blessed and revered by his venus fly trap collection.
2.) What’s there to gain from this? Atm Anet’s determined to put most resources into Living story. Why? Because it drives cash shop sales. So much so that they don’t even feel the need to make an expansion. What they are running right now is a very profitable business.
3.) We who care/want this are the minority.
If anything, I think we’re more likely to get some crappy spin off dungeon that’s attached to the living story, is filled with kitten NPC dialogue, unskippable cutscenes and NPC reliant fights and ending with a reward so abysmal it doesn’t warrant repeating ever again. if anything

Luckily I haven’t had the joy of playing that game, though Dragon Age had a variation of it as like a easter egg :p
Then they’re going to have to get over it.
ANet have finally realised they can’t cater to everyone, so they’re not doing it anymore – they’ve been making more content in the previous months which requires organisation and not going brain afk, so classes being excluded from content requiring good performance is no big loss.
Sword/focus is what you’ll be wanting for your second weapon set. It pairs very will with GS and offers 2 blind skills + a blast finisher/3 personal blocks.
Full guide on what weapons to use where and etc here: http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/12501056-dnt-guardian-build-5914

Why does it need perfect pve balance? Certain things are always excluded when playing at a high level, whether it be video games, card games or whatever.
If say, mesmer isn’t cut out for it – then well if you want to get more tokens for better performance you better play a different class. Not everything can be equal.
fixing thread
DPS means either GS/LB or GS/Axe+something. Anything else on a warrior is not only sub-par, but so bad you will be kicked out of most parties in dungeons for not carrying your own weight. Condi damage means NOTHING in PvE. Also Rifle is nigh useless, unfortunately.
You can of course try it out and play the hell out of it if you like it, but just do it solo and do not burden others with it: there are enough staff guards that need to be carried through dungeons already…
as point of comparison versus berserker:
In what situation is bearbow great? When/how can it be used correctly?
Ok here’s insight for you:
Bear:
1. Bear is the only pet that can do aoe condi clense. Your party just got poisoned/bleeded, chilled etc and healing spring on c/d?. Well they can now go commit suicide cause obviously pro players are too proud to accept help from a bearbow:)
2. oh did i mention he’s tanky? That means you can use signet of reneval active pulling condition from your party to him and he’s most likely to live. Or how about that protection on dodge roll trait? You can have your 18k glass warrior facetanking stuff, or leave it to bear while you get some heat off you.
Longbow:
1. Shortest cc skill (point blank shot) in ranger’s kitten ntal along with path of scars. Good for taking down defiant stacks, or pushing a boss/mob away, given you know when it’s time to push, and when it’s time to not use it when defiant’s down.Today at tequatl i abused it defending eastern battery from bloated creepers. Just pushed the sucker away, then followed up with crippling aoe #5 so it wouldn’t advance before it dies. It worked.
2. Barrage – good damage, 10 vulni. Nuff said.
3. It can be traited for 1500 range. Gargoyle heads in Ac for example need that.
4. Only auto suffers damage reduction from close range. Who says it has to be main weapon. There’s another weapon set you can have for melee and longbow for long range/support.
Few of top of my head, no pardon me, teq time.
Bear Pet (somewhat understandable):
1.) If your party is full of bads, go for it. It’s considered a ‘niche’ pet for a reason.
2.) You shouldn’t need this outside of some fights in fractals where you lack a decent guardian.
Longbow:
1.) aaand you’re either stuck on LB till cd wears off, or you are duping yourself out of having another actually good weapon on your second set. You’re better off using GS and you still have Hilt Bash.
2.) Way better ways to get vauln.
3.) If you’re trying to kill gargoyle heads with longbow and eagle eye trait, you’re gonna have a bad time.
4.) ‘Support’ and longbow in same sentence.
Aaaand
Teq? But this is the dungeon forums, such blasphemy! >:(

Both frost/spotter and bearbows are great if used correctly and nothing to scream about if used incorrectly.
In what situation is bearbow great? When/how can it be used correctly?

I was talking about pugs. Not your super cool story speed running. GS has a blind?. sword is the only other weapon that has a blind. And i hardly see sword run in pugs. its always greatsword or staff. And just because you CAN swap to make the fight slightly easier does not mean its a must or will cause you to fail.
I wasnt talking about guardians in entirety as in traits etc. I only mentioned weapon and utilities. Which they dont have blind spam utilities. that comes from traits. I know full well you use your virtures to spam blinds. That has nothing to do with the utilities you take. You could leave out those last two utilities and clear every dungeon with the utilities I listed in a fine time. Could you make runs more smooth? sure. But is it 100% neccassary with what guardian can already provide with the above listed utilities, all you miss out on is a condition clear, something Feedback from a mesmer/healing turret from an engi can suffice for. Hallowed ground is great for long fights where you need buttloads of stability, but my point is to illustrate even a BAD guardian not swapping his utilities will provide a crapload to a party, just like a warrior. Why do you think pugs look for heavy classes so much? they dont have much give when they get things. what do I lose by taking stand your ground over hallowed ground? I get an INSTANT stuck break 5 second stability instead of the longer cd longer duation hallowed ground. I lose stability for longer fights, im using something worse, and still not being 100% discredit to team.
ill admit guardian is way harder to play then warrior. it alteast requires timing. But both classes have extremely easy time making a dungeon a breeze. Everyone who swaps to warrior/guardian after playing something else can tell you this. I find both heavy classes entirely boring myself. Ive cleared dungeons in pugs with staff guardians faster then with no guards. I had a party, 1 ranger, 2 guardians, me an engi, and both guardians camping staff, and I cleared it way faster and smoother then when we had zero guardians. Cause thats how good the heavy classes are honestly. or maybe they are just godly players?
Yes, the idea is to run Sword/Focus and Greatsword. The Focus is the third weapon with a blind called Ray Of Judgement. The focus also includes a blast finisher which applies might when used in a fire field.
Even if your run is just a simple pug and not some ‘uber cool speed run’, as a Guardian it is important to take the correct utilities for each fight, and it’s really not hard to swap them, even for a mindless pug. There’s also another benefit to the preference of hallowed ground and purging flames. They are fire fields.
I can’t disagree with you about these classes being easy to play, they most certainly are. I believe that more content should be designed and added to really challenge players of all classes. I also believe that there needs to be changes to get some classes up the pecking order, for example the necromancer.
I am finding it hard to pinpoint what you are trying to convey but if it is that even a guardian running a staff, who doesnt swap up utilities and is doing jack all is better than something like a necro or ranger doing the same thing, I agree with you there as well. There is certainly some imbalance there.

Here’s an example from last night. Whatever the change was I hope that there’s a fix for it soon, it hasn’t improved since then.
-GMB
You’re honestly over thinking things. Thieves honestly just stick on three passive signets that they never activate, elite of their choice and then utility skill of their choice for the last slot which might be haste or smoke screen. But beyond that it’s just repeating a rotation over and over again.
The thing with say, a warrior is that the thinking is more centred around weapon choice than utility choice and you then have to think through how you would deal with an encounter’s mechanics with your weapons rather than through utilities (you can mostly just run standard dps utilities). For guardians, switching utilities around is crucial and if a guardian doesn’t they literally might as well not even be in the group. They’re also extremely squishy so it’s not like you can brute force fights.
lol? are you serious?
Almost all warriors and guardians in pve camp GS, without a weapon on swap that fills the gap that weapon fills. Guardians generally have GS/staff, for might. Warriors in my pugs NEVER leave GS, and if the good ones carry LB for fire fields/pulling.
WoR/Retreat/Stand your ground, iwth these three skills a guardian is 100% a great party mate already, skipping is easier, they have a button to give aegis in retreat, and they can make knockdown fights easier with stability. and WoR will have a use in numerous dungeons/places.
I’ll respond on behalf of a friend here since I just noticed this conversation. I main a guardian and this bothers me-
Ok firstly, that weapon setup for guardian in PvE is a disgrace. Staff should never be used outside of clearing TA blossoms or speed-buffing between fights.
Secondly, if you take those same 3 utilities into every fight, then you indeed are being less productive for many encounters. The fact that you have yet to mention either purging flames or hallowed ground or the use of blind spam via weapon and trait choices indicates to me that you may not be aware of the meta for pve guardian at all.
What’s my opinion on warriors in regard to this thread? I think they’re fine as is when it comes to a PvE setting.

Yep, same here. It’s gotten even worse since last night to the point where it’s almost unplayable.

it really doesnt make that much of a difference
One of the problems is probably the PUGs who melee Lupicus and kick others who don’t. Anyone wanting to learn on the spot is going to find melee really hard, with 3 stages, unless they watch a video first. Arah shouldn’t just be for those who learn from videos.
(I’ve not got a solution, but this could be a problem)
imagine if there was a mentoring guild where you could be taught arah with a teacher without there being any sort of pressure to learn immediately on the fly
oh wait
what makes you think a dueling class is meant to work in massive group settings
You’re not meant to have a character focused on CC’ing bosses, you’re meant to be doing damage, support and control at the same time.
So there being very little benefit to someone focusing on CC is a good thing, it means it punishes inefficient playstyles.
I make no requirement Arah pugs (so anyone from the casualiest casual and the most el33tist zerkburger can join) and they fill very quickly.
Where is the problem? No casuals are being gated, my parties fill very quickly.
In all seriousness though, if it is any indication, if I whack at a mob long enough in a group of people, it doesn’t take long before its chasing me around the room ignoring the others. So how much dps it that?
Okay, so…
How much damage do you see from your autoattack chains on no armour/light armour/medium armour/heavy armour targets?
For example:
Lupicus is a heavy armour target, Subject Alpha is a medium armour target, Risen Berserkers are basically zero armour targets and Wraithlord’s Hunter, Magecrusher and I think Zadorojny are light armour targets.
What kind of numbers do you get on these guys?
The best thing to do, is pick whatever you like the most.
I run sword/axe and Longbow.
sometimes I switch to rifle.
Sometimes I feel like running around with a greatsword. Its more how well you play your toon, and what kind of person you are, and less what build you go with.
Honesly who would you rather play with? some kitten elitist jerk from WoW with his own “omfgrofflestompyourface you don’t have the right build/gear!?!?!” attitude?
Or someone with 5 dps less, who is a joy to play with?
If it only were 5 dps no1 would be qqing about it
Sadly it’s more like doing 2-3 times more dmg when running the meta with the right armor and stuff compared to some pugs saying " I play what I want"Run whatever you want but get ready to get kicked from a party in dungeons when they want you to run the right builds/weapons etc.
I would also recommend Nike!’s guide which was already linked.
I’ve yet to see a build/guide/video of someone doing that much more dps than I do with my sword/axe build.
its usually just “i seem” or “it feels like” they are doing more dmg.I don’t run dungeons out side my own friends/guild for this reason though, to many disenfranchised wow left overs who rage if “feel” like they spend 10-20 minutes longer running a dungeon with ‘you’ than they did with the ‘last x class they had’ everyone on earth will de-evolve back to pond goo.
Typically they are the type of people that fill low elo in League of Legends, the kind that blame everyone else for everything that goes different than what they had in their own little minds. Its NEVER their own fault when they suck. The problem is this:
if you’re in it to be the best at something, do everything right to become the best at it, don’t pretend that you already are, no matter what the facts say.
If you’re in it to have fun, do whatever is fun to you, but don’t screw everyone else who expects you to perform in a specific role.its really simple.
How much DPS do you do with sword/axe?
OH LOOK CONTROL
OH LOOK CONTROL
Except encounters already require us to swap weapons. For example you’ll go greatsword/longbow for the arah p1 tar, you’ll go axe/sword + gs for lupicus, you can go gs + axe/axe for belka, axe/mace is more of a group weapon set, and so forth.
If you’re not swapping weapons around you’re not playing warrior efficiently.

guang pls
^listen to this guy, he knows how it is
The day you tone done reflect damage is the day mesmers go from their current status as necro tier to quite literally the trash tier.
Oh this is for PvE, I retract my statement.
Killing NPC’s is worse than watching paint dry
Pressing 1 in braindead zergs and going afk on points in bunker builds isn’t that interesting either.
Let’s try not to bring in the unsubtle jabs towards other game modes, shall we?
Did you also know that in trinity games, a tank holding aggro and a healer keeping everybody up are archetypes revolved around maximising group DPS through buffs and maintaining DPS uptime by keeping aggro off of them or healing them?
Every party setup in an MMO is designed around increasing group DPS either directly through damage modifiers or indirectly through damage mitigation like with aegis or reflects.
give me some sort of idea or theme for her please. ^^
