I’m planning to convert my ascended light armor to marauders.
Unranked arena is not blocked by rank. The conquest game mode is. You cannot queue with someone in your party who does not meet the rank requirements.
Yes we know that but why? Why is stronghold available at rank 2?
The guild mission system is just stupid. Only 10 for the PvP team and the 5 who are in the team that gets the mission done first get the commendations (hence the farming). No-one else in the guild has the opportunity to get commendations. Just a poorly thought out system.
I’ve been having fun playing tempest in PVP. I didn’t really participate in any betas, but I heard a lot of negative comments about tempest. My question is, how much has tempest improved since BWE3? Were the changes quite drastic? Because it seems quite fun to play.
Not good in any game mode, doesn’t do enough damage and isn’t as survivable as other specs.

Just saying, in the new maps, people are getting crushed. I see Tempest doing far better and surviving way better than most every other class not named Reaper tbh.
Not for me, I tried it and normal staff build or D/D was far more effective IMHO.
So my guild was doing the PvP dailies last night and one of our team of 5 only had a rank of 8 so he could do stronghold daily but not the conquest daily. We had to do that with 4 in our guild team. This is simply ridiculous.
Wow I thought the veteran creature could be passed off as a bug but not now. They clearly haven’t updated the dailies at all. Thats extremely poor and unprofessional.

Yep I had this problem on JQ as well when ONS were attacking the JQ garri yesterday. Huge skill lag (but not game lag)
This is a terrible system. You have to effectively level up THEN use mastery points. It should just be based on mastery points.
Anet you need to get more disciplined with your patches, your ability to deploy patches quickly means you think you can do it any time. You don’t take into account the load on your download servers, I missed my guild opening the guild hall because of this, which should be a great part of the xpac.

Come on Grouch, you know just as well as we do that 90% of the population do not want to play Sky Hammer or Spirit Watch. There’s a reason those maps aren’t in any competitive setting.
Its kittening unranked, I want more variety , heck Capricorn should be added back. Have some patience until the league comes.

Reduced Edge of the Mists rewards.
Reduced event karma, gold, experience, and world experience by 25%.
The number of Badges of Honor awarded for capturing an objective has been reduced to be consistent with other WvW maps.
The chests that spawned on objective capture containing badges and ascended materials have been removed.
The Badges of Honor and ascended materials are now dropped by the objective’s boss instead.
Fantastic this is at least a year overdue.
Don’t know if its a bug exactly but I’m trying to download the latest patch and it says the download speed is 200-300KB/sec which isn;t that fast but should be fast enough to download a patch in reasonable time. Well for 10 mins its been sitting at 0%, 7570 files remaining and the amount downloaded is barely climbing. It says I can start playing but when I try to get into the HOT area it hangs without any message. You need to improve your streaming technology and possibly make sure the download info is being reported correctly.
And now I miss opening the guild hall with my guild because of your downloader.

Solo players are a huge part of the mmo landscape and have been for years since wlel before GW2. MMOs are not just for people to do grouped content with.
Can already see that more people will flock to EB leaving the new BLs deserted.
Pretty ridiculous when mat costs are going to skyrocket anyway. Its at the stage where they should be looking to make ascended easier to make.
The daily rewards aren’t too bad actually since you could just decide to not open the chest until you want the boost. It’s slightly annoying.
Those proofs of heroics being soulbound though… I understand why but that could be troublesome.
Is that actually correct? So not only do we have to do some huge amount of levels, but we have to do them on that character only?
I do wonder who think these things up…obviously not someone who enjoys playing more than one class in wvw!

Being in meta exactly means thief is viable and clearly better than any other class in some important areas of this game mode. People are not like stupid and take thief to kitten their team.
So you’re agreeing that mesmer isn’t OP.
No one is forcing you into a server, like many other online games, some servers are designated as being full, and so no new players can join that server.
It’s called balancing out populations between servers so no one server becomes the server to win them all!
Which is what exactly has happened in GW2 in regards to WvW population distribution.
Most people bandwagoned to the top 3 servers, leaving the lower servers unable to compete on equal footing.
Map caps provide balance. If queues get too long players and guilds go to another server.
If you want to play with your friends in T1, well tough, you should have joined them earlier. If you really are such awesome gaming buddies, why were you on a different server?! If you only just bought the game, tough, you should have bought it sooner.
Join a different server, make new gaming buddies. You did it once, you can do it again. hell why not join a server where you can fight against your friends, add some friendly rivalry into it.
He could do that or he could leave the game, guess which is more likely. Do we and anet really want that?
We had to find out about the total Hero Point count required and acquisition method from Colin on the 6th page of a player created post, why wasn’t this mentioned with the revenant+elite specs blog post earlier is beyond my comprehension.

I’m glad people didn’t actually read what the post was. It’s 400 points to unlock everything for the specialization including skins. That means to get all of you skills it will be less, and they have stated it would take a lot of extra hero points for the skins so it still could be just 170 or so for the specialization and all abilities. Also it only takes a few to get started on the specialization you just won’t have all of your utilities and elite yet. Stop blowing things out of proportion.
Depends how they structure it ie where are skins? At the beginning, end or in the middle?
So, it’s confirmed you need ~400 hero points to fully unlock an elite specialization.
The new ability in the blog post to get one hero point for an RNG WvW item that is rewarded on level-up is nice, but 400?
I believe that this figure is completely unreasonable for your average WvW player. I am a WvW exclusive player, and as I prefer small-scale fighting to zerging, I am only WvW rank 900, despite having 4500 hours of playtime logged.
I thought Anet said, “We don’t make grindy games”. 400 hero points, one at a time in WvW sounds pretty kitten grindy to me, does anyone else feel the same way?

I think the answer about moving reset away from when critical patches might be required was exactly why they have done it.
If we aren’t going to get dire we definitely need another condi combo with a more rounded set of stats.
So why should a person who’s done 214 Hero Challenges on every character be able to get 214/250 (85.6%) of their Elite Specialization line done on day one, when a person who’s leveled up 1900 times in WvW have 0/250 (0%) towards their Elite Spec on day one? There needs to be parity.
Parity is impossible because hero challenges are a finite resource and WXP is effectively infinite. Like I said in another thread what we’re getting is a good compromise and more than what I or probably anybody was expecting (which was to actually do the hero challenges). I normally hate entitlement being bandied around but this seems a clear cut example of it.
If anything in gw2 is grind I’d hate to see the people with that opinion play any other MMORPG. XD
SWTOR and WOW are less grindy than GW2.
I won’t comment on the current state of WoW as I quit that game at the very end of WotLK.
However explain how SWTOR is less grindy than GW2? Do we want to talk about the Gear Treadmill? Weeklies and Dailies? Perhaps PvP commedations? Even some of the reputation cosmetics? Even with KotFE coming out, I don’t expect any sort of changes in this design.
You must have missed the change to PvP gear, the cost has been drastically reduced and there are effectively no commendation caps. And yes obtaining BIS PvE gear is less of a grind than in GW2 even less so with kotfe and all raids being available and giving top level rewards. Dailies are irrelevant.

And I don’t think you can have 398 spare hero points. According to the wiki you get 398 from levelling and there are 214 available in tyria:

So you should only have ~214 spare. Reportedly we will require ~250 to unlock everything.
Sorry but anybody who thinks that they should get retroactive scrolls from their prior rank ups is just fooling themselves. Its instant full elite specs which is clearly unreasonable.
But its not unreasonable for the average veteran PVE player to be able to do instant unlocks because chances are he already has tons of Hero Points stockpiled just from playing the way he wants ?

Given how many WvW ranks most WvW players would have stockpiled they would be able to unlock everything immediately. Its not perfect but its entirely understandable and its more than most would have expected.
I’m not sure what the exact numbers that the elite specs are going to need are, but it seems 210 is what people are saying is for everything. Now if I make a new ranger, tome it to 80, unlock only what I need to use the spec I am going to use in HoT minus the elite spec stuff, I have 270 skill points left over. I think most PvE players will have enough stocked up, and this gives WvW players a way to get them too. I like their solution, but I still think people are going to be able to instantly unlock stuff.

You get sinister from Silverwastes recipes. But yeah testing from leading pve guilds has shown sinister to be the highest condi dmg combo.

The PvE requirement to unlock stuff was bad enough.
No PvE requirement now.
Show me one instance of Anet delivering something the WvW community has asked for. And no, fixing achievements so they don’t take a minimum 12 years to complete (3 years after launch) doesn’t count.
- They removed culling, which was a major change.
Culling still occurs depending on your settings its just on friendlies not on enemies. Its the reason why people always completely discount how many are in their own zerg compared to the enemy zerg.

At what time roughly would the servers be taken down on Thursday besides “morning” as middnight Thursday is 6pm in most east coast cities in Australia and would like to have a last fun rally. Also it seems from the post, WvW will be down until reset is meant to happen on Saturday to prepare the new maps?
Game will come down for HOT at 6pm AEDST. AFAIK WvW will be available again with the new maps once you download HOT but reset will occur on Sunday AEDST.
Do we still get normal rewards from ranking up ie a chest with items in it, chance of ascended or exotic and badges?
So for elite specs are the scrolls of maguuma heroics needed or can the tyrian scrolls be used?
OP’s post fails as soon as he said Courtyard was good.
People hate Courtyard because 5v5 deathmatch is a mess. Stronghold is disliked because it feels a little too much like PvE (or at least did initially) and lacks a strong comeback mechanic.
That dislike has nothing to do with the lack of build templates.
To be fair the real issue with courtyard is less of the “mess” part and more of the a problem with the fact that the entire combt system in GW2 isn’t favorable to TDM. Specifically TDM just tends to promote mass AoE spam, and the AoE spam tends to lead to the exclusion of melee builds. This is further made worse by the narrowness of the courtyard.
Thats a good point so what about another DM map with substantially more room?

The glicko system is a failure, not the server system. How matchups are determined is a failure, not the server system. As far as rewards WvW would be just as fast if not faster if all sides agreed not to attack one another and just play musical keeps. There are plenty of ways to make the server system work while avoiding that garbage EotM system.
No the server system is a failure for exactly the reasons we can see now with the overall decline in population. It is inflexible, vulnerable to changes in population and population imbalances across timezones.
Ascended is such an insignificant boost to your stats (About 5%) that I actually wonder if it would really cripple your team to use exotic armor. If we were talking about FoTM then I’d understand, since they have infusions, but I don’t see how it will be much better unless they plan on making ascended better in some way.
I thin k so long as you have asc trinkets and weapons you should be OK. I doubt they’ll add agony to raids, thats a fractal mechanic only.
I just don’t understand why we don’t make more maps like Foefire. honest to god, that formula just works the best with gw2. we all like that map the most. if you just changed up the environment to a different theme, and varied the bosses (i.e. so theyre not soloable), it would make a lot of people happy.
I think I would like foefire better if the boss wasn’t soloable, make it so that there is more risk for going for the lord. As it stands though its not my favourite map. I like Temple and Nifhel best, and their mechanics are quite similar.
