I really don’t understand why I can’t be my own party and in a squad. I don’t want to rely on a commander to decide that. Taking away options is not something I can really agree with.
I don’t know, personally. Sometimes I just like to chat with just party members.
A squad is essentially a larger group, unless they make it so that you can be in more than 1 group (and no mmo that I’ve played has allowed this) it won’t happen and the new squad is by far the most preferable solution for the large scale WvW combat.
The answer is simply stay in your own group and don’t join the squad.

Well, I’m at wolf rank, and I just went up against a dragon. I’m sorry, but if that happens, then some part of your matching is clearly busted. Even if my win rate is a little over 50%, I should not be going up against people with 40 ranks on me. Horrible match.
Matchmaking doesn’t work like that and dragon rank isn’t related to mmr anyway. Look for the dev post in this thread it explains it.

Which would be exactly the type of elitist behaviour some of us fear squads could cause.
Technically you are also saying that all current commanders arent fit to command. No one is managing squads it at the moment. How nice.

Im curious if being in a squad will nix the option to see other commander tags on the map.
Many times I coordinate between multiple commanders who are pinned ont he same maps, and I’d like to see all of them if I choose to, not be only able to see the commander’s tag of the squad I am in.

What the hell has happened with this patch? From Australia I am getting ping of 4,500 in large group fights consistently tonight and I’m not the only one in my guild.

It wasn’t great then, it certainly isn’t great now that it’s still doing less damage.
I don’t understand why the FLAMETHROWER is among the worst damage. It’s a flamethrower. It throws flames.
I can tell you why … because it’s a crit proc machine that stacks might (from itself AND other sources) to ridiculous levels, makes you semi-immune to blinds and CC and traited properly, gives you silly amounts of boons sitting you at around 30-40% damage reduction. I actually can’t believe they gave FT MORE damage based on what I’ve been able to do with it.
Right now, my biggest problems are:
1. Trying to decide how to balance my offensive stats because I have it all
3. People in vicinity giving me buffs I don’t need because it exceeds my limits for crit and might stacks.Those are problems that EVERYONE wants to have. People complaining about FT … just aren’t doing it right.

yep magnet pull isn’t working properly. i was already a bit worried when they said on the stream that it was only a problem when the enemy was at around 1200 range. We should help the devs in figuring out when exactly the pull fails. pre patch i had to agro the enemy first before i could use the pull and sometimes in mid combat the pull would not display a animation and fail also. (need to play more to see what is different post patch).
can confirm that the bug they fixed was indeed a bug (but it was a sneaky one that is hard to notice) and is not the same (much complained about and highly visible) bug as whatever is going on when magnet fails to actually pull someone because that bug happens at all ranges.
Thats what I thought when I heard about the bug fix. Seems to relate to terrain, something definitely changed with the last big balance patch in relation to this.
I’m hearing arguments for not showing badges during a match, but what about just standing around in the lobby?
I want to see it displayed definitely in lobby definitely, in matches probably as well.
In the current meta, definitely herald, maybe druid.
If the meta moves away from ranged back towards more of a ball type meta you can probably add tempest to that.

Traits are fantastic arguably the best set of new traits for any of the classes.
The best? The traits are on two things:
-> Getting power under stability (we can already get power with alchemy and easily stacks to 25 with Hoelbrak runes which will stay our runes after the expansion for sure with the scrapper)
-> Getting super speed in lightning fields but super speed does not stack (LOL)I am sorry I do not see a new relevant mechanic, yes it should be nice, but new? Not at all.
Traits are not a mechanic, the new mechanic of the function gyro is sub par, that doesn’t mean the traits are however.
Can we actually talk about what would make people want to play a Tempest over vanilla Elementalist?
As suggested by someone else what if it had some sort of stacking mechanic on your stats for the duration of the channel and for a few seconds afterward? ie. air overload increases your crit chance and damage.
50% nerf to ice bow HAD to happen? Its rendered it entirely useless. This is anets big problem stupid large changes rather than iteraitve smaller changes.
And they nerf ele burning but not guard! Why not?
Do you see the staff water skills doing that much damage? No? Why not? Because they’re support skill just like the ice bow, just like all water skills. It was never supposed to deal that much damage, it was a mistake they babied the ele community about for far too long.
What? Icebow is all damage and cc, barely any support. they would have to completely revamp it to make it a support weapon.
As for Roy appreciation as per the thread title change, why after the gloating on twitter? Very poor choice of wording from him.
Do you not know what support means? Control IS support.
An auto attack that AoE heals
The heal is not even worth mentioning in comparison to the alternatives, and yes like others have suggested in the GW2 lexicon cc is control, support is primarily healing and buffing.
Ok, so I’ve run about at least 20 Stronghold matches this weekend, & the problem I’m seeing is that there is essentially NO REASON TO FIGHT ANYONE.
All in all, this game mode has a great ebb and flow to it and will make for a very interesting match, provided shoutcasters figure it out too. Realistically, it is terrible for solo queue because, unlike conquest, people have roles they really should be fulfilling, and if they aren’t, then you get bad experiences and complain about the game type. So, I would recommend making it a game mode that can only be queued up for with 5 queues, just my thought.
I can see how this would be the case, its going to be good with fully co-ordinated teams. But for solo players it ends up being as the previous poster suggested, just a race for the lord with no pvp whatsoever which is why I haven’t played it for the last 2-3 beta events. I also think for soloq players it would be better with a bigger group, maybe 8-10 players.
Will there be builds in pvp, where you have descent ranged dmg output on top of your melee hammer stuff as Scrapper?

I agree that adding another AI mechanic when they have such problems with all other AI mechanics in the game is bewildering. Would have made more sense to have the scrapper elite mechanic be function gyro AND change turrets to gyros, then have another suite of utilities.

I never get flamed for playing D/D ele in unranked, I sometimes get flamed when I’m not playing well though.
Sort of interesting and yet… so very, very pointless. This is all about improving something that we never, ever use. And we probably still wont use it if joining a raid means all other tags become hidden, because coordination over the battlefield is critical – you need to see those other tags. All people in the pug zerg need to see other tags, so that they can help their own commander.
But I suppose if it allow commanders to better organize their groups it isnt all bad.
It will allow better co-ordination by commanders so why wouldn’t they use it. Communicate in team chat or TS to know where other commanders are.

I would guess that it has to do with the devs being very busy with the elite specs. A proper rework would require quite a bit more than just changing some numbers or adding a very basic functionality.
Then do a small nerf so it doesn’t kitten on a whole ability.

Why the heck do you have on a scepter in WvW when staff is 100 times better….?? unless you are solo roaming around looking for duels/1v1s…

The only thing is can squad members see the UI or only the commander? Members really should be able to see the UI if they want especially with sub groups having particular roles.

In what universe is Druid ever a healer? This is so disappointing.
Erm lots of “universes” such as in Dungeons and Dragons which is where MMORPGs stem from.
Not solely, druids are nature wizards, a part of that can be healing but they are also offensive nature wizards and shapeshifters.
Holy crap, Druid just COMPLETELY blows Tempest away in the group support department…AND does it at range.
Staff ele does it at range and from what I gather glyphs on ranger will be pbaoe.
Well it could have been worse, ele elite could have been solely a heal class like Druid.

Druid is gonna be a new bunker probably viable in certain maps of tpvp as an alternative to Shout Guardian.
In teamfights it’s gonna be glorious.

Ground target on the F ability? That would not work well for any other part of the game.
The point is that targeting a team-mate is even harder. I am not sure what the best solution is if they can’t implement a “target nearest team-mate” option.
How do rangers do it? I don’t play ranger much so I’ve never used the pet revive.

Tournaments would be pointless right now, artificial increases to populations that are inactive right now, most of us are waiting and hoping HoT will be different.
Tournament were always pointless given the disparity in populations.
They upped server participation. WvW is very much constant demand on time. Tournament seasons gave it a sort of ebb and flow.
Upped participation during the season then resulted in more leaving the game afterward due to the toxicity of it.
I’m looking forward to this league system next expansion, it would be nice to include the data from GW2 efficiency INGAME. So we can see for ourselves our past game results without having to go to a website. How hard can it be? the data is there, just add a tab and format the information in the interface style. too easy.
We actually need to see more about the MMR itself. Other games do it why is GW2 so different that it shrouds it completely in secrecy?

This seems like poor resource management to me, like he should have been on 1 early profession and 1 late. At least say with Robert Gee his professions were all early and could go through a comprehensive testing process. I agree with the OP a dialogue has to start now.
I think you have that backward. The completion of the classes seems to drive the reveals, not the other way around.
OK but still an issue given the changes completed classes have gone through due to the BWEs. Scrapper and Druid are more likely to be bug ridden at HOT launch than other classes.
Except that leaves out pugs who are not part of wvw guilds or guilds at all…..

You think its poor in PvP you should WvW, its significantly less than PvP.

Healing isn’t rewarded in this game so why would it matter?
In ESO for example, you receive the kill experience from the people you healed. This should be the first step forward Anet takes if they ever want to create a healer role.
Yep this is another issue, players can’t be just healers because they would get no rewards.
