Wow it happened but it is BG that went down, feel sorry for FA and SOS
This shouldn’t even be possible. Take a look at this and then maybe someone will realise how broken T2 really is..
Interesting estimated population where does this come from?
He said Tempest was his least favorite elite spec…
Sorry for my bad English.
For me, Least and Worst are the same when you view it as a competition.
Don’t worry they’re just trying to rationalise it away.
Afaik they mentioned the “+60 range for bombs” trait will be baseline. Therefore:
bomb 1-3: 180 range -> 240 range
bomb 5: 240 range -> 300 range
bob: 300 -> 360 range
OK if thats the case they are bugged.
I think it reigned supreme for too long. Either nerf it or change it or level-up other alternatives.
They did change it, its still powerful but say if I’m running condi build I prefer FT to grenades.
Glue bomb and big old bomb are still missing 60 range.
Is it an actual bug? In one of the other threads mentioned that +60 range wasn’t the promise just that 240 radius would be the baseline.
The 240 range wasn’t properly applied – it’s there visually but not in actual gameplay. Anet fixed that finally – and forgot two of the bombs.
But glue bomb already has 240 range and BOB 300, maybe they never intended to increase them.
About option B , let’s be honest..they will never rework/fix ele, they will merely nerf/unnerf the same couple of sustain traits and healing skill over and over again; they will never give a proper elite spec because of obvious core problems and for fear of creating something even more problematic so…why keep playing ele?
They need to rotate designers, if we got someone like Robert Gee on ele I’m confident we would get that rework.
It’s hard to defend tempest after watching daredevil in action. In actually points to the fact that Karl is more than capable of designing fun elite spec.
I kind of disagree in that yes its fun and will be effective but it still shows Karl’s limitations as a designer. DD is simply a better version of acrobatics (just like tempest is another version of D/D) there’s no imagination in the design it doesn’t bring anything really new to the class like chronomancer, reaper or even dragonhunter have done. The thing with ele compared to thief is that ele has more complex mechanics thus it requires someone with creativety to get a handle on it.
TC and BG are small. They are significantly smaller than YB, we need to get past this notion that because they are in T1 they have lots of players. They are in T1 because glicko forces them to stay there, but both servers have shrunk to the point they no longer have queues.
JQ is really the only bloated server left and their excess is in off-hours period, they have virtually no one playing during NA. Honestly, every T1 server would be a better fit in T2 than YB.
Justify the statement that JQ is bloated cause it isn’t true. JQ has the smallest NA out of the 4 top servers, we are strong in other timezones but even in SEA BG has been doing very well lately. In fact the last few weeks appear to show BG still has a huge latent population that simply hadn’t been coming out.

It’s a matter of opinion. I think that the concept of Chronomancer and Reaper was awesome when I tried them during the first BWE (even if the Reaper needed a little bit more work and they absolutely did it). Bezerker and Daredevil look awesome too and I can’t wait to try them at the next BWE.
DH and Tempest don’t really excite me much even if Guardian is my main. But like I said, it’s more of a personnal opinion thing.
Very true, this whole post was just opinion based. I’m curious though if anyone else feels less than impressed by the Elite specs thus far though? If the whole point of the elite specs was to provide new ways to play a profession and offering new roles in party dynamics, then I feel they’ve missed the mark
I agree with you about daredevil and bezerker, and I would also lump tempest in the same bracket in fact at the head of it given tempest will be underpowered but dd and bez will still be powerful. DH expands guardian in good ways with bow but dropped the ball with traps and the whole stupid dragonhunter meme. Chronomancer and reaper are the only elites IMHO that actually fully expand their classes in interesting and synergistic ways.
Glue bomb and big old bomb are still missing 60 range.
Is it an actual bug? In one of the other threads mentioned that +60 range wasn’t the promise just that 240 radius would be the baseline.
You may not like or enjoy using the kit—lord knows I do not—
Isn’t that the over-arching point of it all? Considering this is a game, shouldn’t it be enjoyable/fun?
Grenade kit just isn’t fun anymore. It’s redundant.
How is it redundant when the leading engi PvP player uses it, and when it is part of the highest ranked engi meta build on meta battle? The fact that you might not personally like it doesn’t make it redundant or functionally poor.
Grenade kit needs some work. It was superior at one point in both condi and crit mode, but since that mega distance nerf on grenades I have found them to be just about useless.
Yet Chaith used them in the winning WTS team.
Medkit seems…. pretty lame. What is with that 1 skill?
Whoever thought of the idea of this new medkit was definitely not in favor of helping out the engi. .
The idea of it is fine, in fact it was well received when they did their initial class changes stream, its the implementation that has sucked.
The balance is not the main problem in this game. All games have balance issues.
Actually balance is the most important thing for an esport type game. IMHO anet underrates its importance.
At this point, all “Full” servers are going to be balanced.
Oh, really?
Yeah until the pop across tzs is even it will never be balanced.
given enough time, it will be “balanced”
mainly because these servers will be locked and thus no new players will enter, the old players will slowly quit one by one to point that the server will unlock itself when the population dropped. personally, i think it will take a year to fix itself.
And players will have been lost to the game.
I am pondering about this myself assuming f2p is true. I am hoping at the very least ANET considers putting an entry level into WvW. 20 would be to low if daily rewards get to stay.
There is already an entry level for new accounts, its 15 IIRC.
News flash
FA is now VERY HIGH
SoS is now HIGHI expect two weeks from now FA will be HIGH and SoS will be MEDIUM
Wonder if the gvg exodus is finally kicking in with the further exodus reflecting the status as you project……
So what that took about 2 weeks to take effect? Too long if thats the case.
TC is the smallest of the T1 servers, population-wise. In fact, even YB actually has a higher population than TC
What is this based on?
YB has queues. TC, other than reset, generally does not.
Yet neither does JQ any more. This website gives a pretty good indications of server strength by timezone:
http://coveragewars2.com/timezone/?tab=ppt
Best I understand it as a T1 player basically a bunch of T1 guilds moved off BlackGate and saved JQ from going down. That caused a lot of the stagnation rather than letting JQ drop. Over time that kinda cross competition got the better of people and there was a lot of drama about how those guilds “made” BlackGate. Other groups moved off BlackGate as well onto other servers like TC. Tempers flared, and a lot moved down to YB to prove that they could dislodge BlackGate because they weren’t able to do so from T1 which they’d have to blow out BlackGate each week (and it wasn’t working despite them staying up crazy hours) cause T2 just wasn’t able to push up past the gap.
Thanks for posting this explanation, it’s pretty much how I’ve heard it. Something bothers me with what’s happening in T1 now though. BG came in third a few weeks ago right after the moves. I figured that would be the new trend due to their loss of personnel. Losing so many would make it hard for them to win or compete like before. But then the oddest thing happened, BG won the following week. JQ’s blobby blob didn’t roll them off the map and somehow BG is winning again this week. How is that?
Pretty simple BG had a a lot of players who hadn’t been playing who were motivated to come back plus I think they pulled longer hours.
Working as intended but not as designed is contradictory. How was it designed to function?
It’s not contradictory. Fiery Rush is a good example of working as intended, but not functioning as designed. The skill works exactly the way it was supposed to, but players use it in a way that designers did not foresee. If you had a skill that was supposed to remove 3 conditions, but it only removed 1, this would be not working as intended; it would be bugged.
OK as I asked how was DT designed to function?
Its not bugged, the ability doesn’t require line of sight, it just requires you to be able to target a person or object.
I didn’t say it was bugged. Something working as intended (not bugged) doesn’t mean it’s functioning the way it was designed.
Working as intended but not as designed is contradictory. How was it designed to function?
YB runs blobs 24/7 so it may be in actuality two BG official guilds but in their wake they had to drag a lot of other people because the size of YB is unreal. And to see BG dip in points just a few weeks ago seemed natural since ones gain is anothers loss. YB surged and BG dipped but now BG in a locked situation is surging with less people, hard not to have a red flag go up on that one.
BG have had players come back to the game cause they had motivation thats all.
You don’t get it. It’s ok. Read other forums about the deals with JQ and BG and keeping T1 locked up. Please.
I’m on JQ, its bullkitten.
At this point, all “Full” servers are going to be balanced.

Right now the only reason JQ and BG have such a big presence is because it is summer vacation. In a week or so, this will all change.
Yet people keep saying that pop goes down during summer holidays cause players are doing other things. And JQ doesn’t have a huge NA presence which is who the holidays pertain to.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
JQ has numbers and just won a few weeks ago.
Yes before the guilds went to YB or the first week after. After that BG got motivated.
And too often I see BG and JQ avoid one another with us being double teamed. Especially in our Keep (Red) where BG either stops us from going in or they clear the siege then run to take Veloka as JQ takes the keep. Again, odd behavior I’ve never witnessed on any other tier other than T1 between JQ and BG.
All 3 servers get double teamed at different stages , there’s no conspiracy.
glicko rating should have been reset once a year… OR make the match ups determined by WvW participation average, instead of glicko…
I think glicko needs more excitement. Also i think Anet needs to stop looking at their data sheets and look at what the community thinks by way of in-game poll
They know what we think from the CDi threads, nothings changed since then really.
So, did the overloads mechanics convince you to make a tempest? Are you going to roll one, and effectively use the elite while playing dungeons, fractals, spvp, wvw? How often do you see yourself playing with tempest? Do you feel useful when you spec into tempest trait line? How do you see yourself post-HoT?
No, no, never, no, same as now.
As for TC well its T1 which means JQ has control. YB gained a bunch of T1 guilds so they can push T1 but the way T1 fights is so odd. They seem to keep scores close even when you know if it were any other tier JQ would be winning by 150K. Glicko messing I think.
You’re obviously not playing in T1. JQ has not won for the last 3-4 weeks and is hardly ‘in control’ given our NA numbers are poor compared to BG, TC and YB.
The CDis weren’t AMAs?
It’s a player driven mode where we:
1. Stack servers and destroy matchup variety by locking ourselves in glicko hell
2. Just generally be unpleasant towards each other even if we’re just playing the same videogame.
3. Create divisions and cliques associated with player created gamemodes and other people’s “True” gamemode (In EU there was a massive kittenthrowing contest between players who prefer to PPT and those that prefer to kill each others for funsies (Raiding Guilds/GvG* guilds)).WvW has never been so dead as it is now. Dunno if lull between HoT overpopulation. Doubt it.
Is it us? Or have we put up with Anets blatant disregard for anything considered WvW for too long? Is our rage justified?
Yes, with regard to point 1 anets design should have taken probable human behaviour into account and didn’t. Servers were a terrible design to begin with for this mode and using glicko on a small sample just as bad. developments could have been done to alleviate some issues, glicko could have been abandoned.
On 2 this happens in all pvp games.
3. Given the different pvp modes in GW1 they should have created more pvp modes in GW2, and certainly once GvG became quite popular they could have thrown some more dev resources at it to make it a proper game mode.
Here is to hoping that they fix Dragons Tooth before the launch of the expansion after Heart of Thorns!
Its not bugged, the ability doesn’t require line of sight, it just requires you to be able to target a person or object.
Add in [CL] to confirmed leaving FA.
The thing is its not de-stacking the top…. WTF is the point of any of this.
Its not destacking any more at the top because the guilds and players left in T1 are playing the game the way they want to and the queues are not that bad now. T2 is destacking because the unholy alliance on YB have brought a T1 play style to T2 and are dominating it and the guilds and players leaving want a different style of play. With the guilds that are leaving and FA still at full its pretty clear the cap or calculation needs adjusting.
What about Dragon Bash?
This is indicative of a larger problem. In an attempt to let every class do everything and let you play what you want to play as any class, the game was created (and has become even more) homogenized.
Oh please, in most other games speed is generally the same across classes and there is some sort of sprint ability that all classes have access to, it doesn’t make them any more homogenized. Heck a lot of other games give you mounts to increase speed even further.
Sorry I don’t see it as an issue at all.
Good riddance to that overinflated market
Any transfer changes should be effected immediately. This isn’t like “blackouts” where people mass logoff for manipulating the algorithm.
Spot on, they must be taken out immediately and added to whatever server they transfer to.
Wanted to pop in and say that you did fight premades a handful of times, but there was an almost equal amount of 3+2’s you fought as well. You also had some 4-queues on your team. There are many ways matches can be made, and you can’t always trust the party check.
3+2 or 4+1 still puts 5 solo at a significant disadvantage. If I’m even just duo queueing with a guildie we’re both in TS.
As the TC representative of the powerful Dull Egotistical Raiding Party [DERP] guild, I’ll attend, and hopefully convince you to re-populate T1.
How given that all 3 are locked?
Actually the ANET program is doing exactly what was intended. It is pushing people to lower tiers. As people want to move, they have to go to T3 or lower since T1 and T2 are full. It hurts short term, but longer term, it is a good move for the game. The issue with Yak’s bend was created before ANET implemented the new system.
There is some movement down yes but it has also caused guilds and players to leave the game which can’t be a desirable result.
These are players who left completely, meaning they have absolutely no potential to add more hours to WvW activity and no one will replace their hours. IMHO their hours should be immediately averaged into the servers they transferred to and removed from the FA average.
Given that FA has gone from full to very high and back again I would say that is happening.
A more problematic result of the slow reaction of FA bleeding players and still retaining it’s FULL status is that there will also be a slow reaction of a server receiving players and could be VERY HIGH for longer than it should.
Hasn’t FA slipped to very high since the system was changed?

Still that’s not the point. What i’d like to have is a chance to have meaningful discussion and provide positive feedback like Revenant subforum…Rev has bugs and in many places is undertuned too, but i do not see harsh talk there. Instead there good discussion that will make class great…all i want is the same chancefor our amazing class!
Necro here. Would just like to point out that Engineers are by far not the only profession with bugs. As mentioned, the professions getting the dev attention right now are the ones that have had their elite specializations revealed. This is due to Anet focusing on getting these specs polished up and finished with help from player feedback. And like most professIons, Engineers are in a good spot and not in need of emergency fixing.
There are a large number of bugs that prevent whole kits from being used. If they have time to make the balance changes they have they should fix large bugs.
What kit are you declaring “cannot be used”?
I used the EG/Mortar/Bombs tonight and they worked well. Some tPvP teams were streaming with a FT build and that kit seemed fine. A recent PvP tourney was won with an engineer using TK, so that covers them all. I am curious how you define “cannot be used” when it comes to a kit? Extreme hyperbole?
Yeah OK its hyperbolic but the bomb radius bug is a pretty significant bug as is the magnet on TK being close to useless.
I ran cele for a while after patch, but have since moved to carrion. it just makes a more powerful FT rifle build. I’m enjoying the FT IP combo, burns burns burns so nice.
Interesting.
I still think FT is gimping yourself quite badly in PvP but what is your build setup?
For condi engi FT is the way to go, cause burning.

Population levels aren’t used to determine matchups – ratings are. Some randomization on the ratings is happening to introduce some variance in the matchups, but if there is a rather large gap in the ratings, that randomization might not be enough to create diverse matchups.
The goal of this change is to make the population spread out better, which will in turn make the ratings get closer, which will result in both more interesting matchups, and more variability as well. This will take some time to happen.
Taking FA as an example given it seems to be the only NA server on the cusp of very high and full can you justify why it should be full given it has quite low non NA and even its NA seems to be not much better than SOS.
The rare time I see staff ele in spvp they are almost always off the point on a vantage point where they can use their range safely.
Nope, cele staff stays on a point 95% of the time. This is the purpose of the build – point holder/support. Watch some weekly tournament vods or high ranked streamers to see how they use it.
OK I have, yes it can be done but its sub-optimal, has a high skill cap hence why its not seen very often and it still requires constant attunement switching, which again counts tempest out.
Why is the guesting system still functional over a year after we have megaservers?
For a minute I thought you guys had a WvW guesting system like in ESO. But sadly nope, it didn’t do anything.
Also why are completely empty servers labelled as “medium” population? You don’t want to let new users that these servers are empty?
Its pretty clearly because they don’t want free transfers.
Staff is not a close range weapon unless you’re playing it badly. Staff + Tempest makes no sense at all.
How is fighting on a point in spvp not close range? The spvp meta cele staff build (the only meta staff build) is used for holding/supporting points. And in dungeons/fractals staff is 95% a close range weapon (and 99%-100% in good groups).
The rare time I see staff ele in spvp they are almost always off the point on a vantage point where they can use their range safely.
There is another thread about it, they appear to have broken it.
