I don’t understand why people are upset about this. Most people won’t see a difference. They’ll only be losing a slight advantage they had over newer players. Oh no, guys! You’re going to be on par with an enemy instead of having a slight advantage! Time to whine about it like its some sort of huge nerf!
Applied fortitude adds what 2500 health, a bit more than a slight advantage for low health classes.
Grinding for advantage is the epitome of pve, or did you not see all the other rage posts about ascended gear and food still existing in this topic?
By that logic levelling is grinding.
I complained when world ranks were added and now the only complaint I will ever have about changes to that system is that they didn’t remove it entirely. Get your pve trash out of wvw.
Progression isn’t PvE, the grand daddy of WvW, DAOC, had Realm v Realm ranks and progression.

do tell.

- The Hero Points System isn’t part of the expansion per se, they’re fixing a broken system. (and yes, the Skill Point/Trait system is broken how it currently stands)
So change it back to the original system. Having said that they aren’t just fixing the system, they are redoing the system so they can put elite specs in.

Unfortunately this is something that seems to be relatively common in MMOs and other online games. Systems change for a multitude of reasons. Sometimes it borks your build. Sometimes it borks your progress. Sometimes it obliterates a skill for no apparent reason. Anet did this in GW1 with skills; plenty of horror stories out there about their skill balancing. They’ve shown that the can and will do it as they feel its necessary in GW2.
Except Mike O’Brien explicitly stated that they wouldn’t invalidate players progress with HOT.

Good riddance. As a guardian/thief player those are a huge buff and close to mandatory and the obvious first choice.
That alone indicates that they are to strong.
Or it indicates the others are too weak.
The cause of the “NPC coup” bug (enemy guards at some objectives) has been identified. We’re working on testing and moving the fix towards the Live game.
Finally, 4 days after patch.
There is no power creep, the abilities stopped at these 2 and most players have them.

You’re complaint isn’t that you don’t want to do them. Your complaint is that they are boring. That’s entirely different than most of the others’ complaints, which simply boils down to they just don’t want to do them at all….period.
Thats a mischaracterization of those who are objecting which is that we don’t want to have progress we earned via a different system lost merely because they are changing the system and have to spend hours re-earning them when we could be doing an activity in game that we actually want to do.
For new toons going forward I think its fine.
he was talking about that specific poster, which was bringing up a different point, not “you” meaning everyone he was talking to.
I was talking about her comment about “most others”
Well if there was a good place to mention new abilities being added, you would think it would be in the same article where they discussed removing a few and removing half the cost of current abilities.
Assuming that they were done.
It would however be a rather bad place to mention them if they are not done and and up not working by the time HoT is released, considering how people here take every single word as set in stone promises.
Well don’t mention the changes to guard killer and guard defence stacks yet then. Its poor PR being seen to take away without any compensation.

I do agree with you, but some people want to unlock everything available to them, even if they’ll never use it. However, the people who do want to unlock everything should expect to have to work a little more for it.
I have everything unlocked now I don’t expect to lose that progress and work again for it. For new character going forward its fine not for characters already at 80 with everything unlocked via scrolls and gold.
Mind boggling really, no-one has a problem with these any more because every WvW player has them now. Perhaps they should consider making the other lines more desirable instead of nerfing. The only thing I can think is that once again they are reducing the game to the lowest common denominator and focussing on casuals.
How about working on stuff the CDis (remember them) revealed that people wanted: larger groups, realistic WvW achievements for example.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
Have they said they might possibly get rid of them?
Over 36 hours later and still not fixed, unbelievable.
and how is that different than a 3v5 on any map? This is not specific to courtyard.
because everyone hates courtyard….
No they don’t. I want more DM maps.

I’m sorry, but it’s NOT 11 hours on one character. I have 15 characters currently and I’m working through challenges on them presently. The vast majority of them have very little world completion done, a lot of them have nothing open beyond the first few waypoints in their starter zone. Yet, you don’t see me kittening about this.
Edit: And I only get to play an hour an night if I’m lucky!
Even at 5 mins its around 5 hours for 1 character let alone if you have multiples. It may not bother you personally but how about having some understanding that others may not like having the progress that THEY EARNED reset.
A longer-term fix has been applied to the “World peace” problem. Players should now always be on their proper teams, asura gates and waypoints in WvW maps will be working again, etc.
The fix was applied at about 9:15am PDT/12:15am EDT/4:15pm GMT (May 20th, 2015). If you see any other problems, especially things like NPC guards or dolyaks misbehaving, spawning too often or not enough, etc. please post here with the map (Red Borderlands, Eternal Battlegrounds, etc.) and objective (Garrison, Bluelake, Godslost, etc.).
Problems with enemy guards spawning on every friendly keep and inaccurate supply have already been documented in addition to the worlds peace problem, you will easily see it if you go in game. Fix it.
Is there any way to fix the supply in the keeps WITHOUT having to lose it first? I noticed that after we lost Bay and Hills, the supply fixed itself.. But i’d rather not lose a fully upgraded Garri just to fix the supply stuff..
God forbid anet release a patch to fix it…………..
Can’t believe this kitten isn’t fixed yet, and the devs have the gall to ask for specific instances of it happening when enemy guards are spawning on every friendly tower and keep.

Like 5 minutes QA on this patch in a WVW map would’ve revealed this stupid garbage. IMO this is pretty definitive proof ANet doesn’t give two craps about WVW, after Colin’s embarrassing explanation of WVW at PAX South.
What was his explanation?

plus, there is going to be a grind for elite specialisations, so its grind for new stuff + grind for the old stuff we just took from you.
my opinion is simple, all existing 80s should be grandfathered in with full unlocks. they have to unlock elite specialisations, and that’s enough. let people play the game instead of grinding to play the game.

I don’t particularly consider 65 skill challenges to be “a lot,” but that’s just difference of opinion.
65 skills challenges is probably around 11 hours to complete for 1 toon. Add in multiple toons and it is a lot of time to regain what we already have..
it is NOT 11 hours to do… you can pop from point to point and communing takes a few seconds. you can easily get 65 points in under 2 hours if you dedicate the time.
1 skill point every 1.8 seconds I dont think so.
We’ve identified causes of most of the issues, and are working on moving fixes towards the Live game. I’ll update again when things are a little more settled. Patch notes should also call these things out if I’m behind those.
Thanks for your patience.
12 hours later we have enemy guards still spawning in large number on friendly keeps and supply is still bugged when is this going to be fixed. Guards are spawning in such number as to eventually take down a gate on their own.
How can this happen on a patch that has nothing to do with WvW?
This is ludicrous we’re getting 4-5 enemy guards spawning on keep gates this is enough to take down a gate eventually, this kitten needs to be fixed
Guards are still bugged, supply is still bugged………………
Guards are still bugged over half a day after the patch, for god sake fix the bloody game anet.

Whether your intent in having two major forces on two competing servers is to manipulate the matchup or not it just looks bad. There’s appearance of impropriety at work. I was on BG when TW formed TWL and started propping up JQ. Did they manipulate matchups? Well… let’s be perfectly honest the matchup in t1 has been manipulated for a long time with all 3 servers working in agreement to keep them in that tier. Push weeks and all that. I don’t know maybe that’s not done anymore but I know a fair number of people thought it was a shabby thing to do.
Still done now ONS from BG is doing it on TC as well as BG with accounts on both servers.
Match manipulation is a no-no.
How is match manipulation defined? If I know someone on another server and tell them where our group is for fights is that match manipulation?
Wont be June 30 from what I understand

Necro confirmed as getting shouts.
CM by so far its not even worth asking the question.
Elite specs should be elite otherwise there’s no point, and anet need that to drive people to buy the xpac. Having said that the guardian elite is definitely not stronger, I doubt I will use it, but the chronomancer has the potential to be mandatory for some parts of the game.
What Blackbox said. The first thing I thought when reading about the elite spec was "It’s kind of ironic that this “backline spec” with a longbow is getting close-ranged virtues".
And non ground targeted traps.
Fellow guardians need to stop bickering in here. We got solid additions. You can’t(shouldn’t) have everything.
Guardians elite spec is clearly nowhere near chronomancer. CM almost looks mandatory, as an elite spec should be. DH is just an alternate trait line with nothing special, I will not be using it on my guard.
No…………. /15chars
@ OP, traps are ground targeted (for all classes that use them) once the new build goes live. It will be a base effect.
Did they say that for rangers in the previous ready up? I don’t remember it. Regardless if it was the case why were they not ground targeted in the demo? Just because rangers may get them ground targeted doesn’t mean guardians would, I am confident that at this stage they are not ground targeted, this could change of course.
Have map caps been lowered again? I swear maps are being queued far more easily than a week or 2 ago.
I get the point that the purpose of this profession specialization is in taking out the dragons, But it is Very poorly communicated. Traditionally the language to refer to such an opposite would be used with words like Bane., or Slayer, maybe even DragonKnight to get that offensive vibe. With the Hunt, verbs such as Tracking, and patience come to mind, which undermines the whole light magic theme.
You’re spot on about the communication. Whilst I take Jon’s point, the advertising then referred to them as big game hunters which does not fit the explanation at all. Dragonbane or Dragon knight would have been far better.
Chronomancer cooler than dragonhunter? Is the pope a catholic……………..
Of course it is. DH is underwhelming, CM looks like being an actual elite spec.
Look at what they’ve done to turrets. It’s way easier to make sure nobody ever use them again than do proper balancing. Seems that they have the same philosophy with the ele conjures.
Why not just leave them as is then? Its not like they needed a nerf. Not like turrets which did need some kind of a nerf.
Big game hunter completely does not fit the paladin archetype that guardian belongs to. Traps are an especially poor ability to base the ELITE spec on and the traits are underwhelming. In short, whats to like? Well maybe some of the longbow skills but thats it.
Without ground targeting traps will not be used. Heck even with them they barely get used by rangers.
Did you even read the post he linked?
Could you white-knight any harder if you tried?
When ANet themselves say “yes, we did this” and you still say “nope, no evidence”, who are you even arguing for any more?
White knight, what? Who the kitten cares if anet did this? If they did I applaud them, guys like DarkSide are scum.
I love the flavor of the tomes, so bringing them back into a developed elite spec sounds awesome!
I know they are certainly not best in slot as a utility, but I still used them in PVE because I just really enjoyed the concept and the feeling of unlocking extra power.
I realise its too late but why didn’t they have the idea to use it as the basis for THIS elite spec.
Yes! I just suggested exactly the same thing. And it would make much more sense as an elite spec rather than freakin traps that aren’t even ground targeted.
