It’s kills, not badges, so it really won’t take long at all. If you can manage the queue, it’s good to go right when they reset on Friday.
GW2 is a wvw game because no other game can successfully offer that style of play (GW2 sold more than all of those other games combined, let’s see if it can keep it up).
But WvW still isn’t a big part of the game. It’s sPvP that might get eSport status to the game. And most players aren’t in WvW.
S’posedly 2 million accounts were sold for GW2. There’s 52 worlds. That’s about 40,000 accounts per world. You can only fit 1/80th of that into WvW. So less than 1% of accounts are engaged in WvW at any given time.
Having seen servers unable to get more than a dozen or so onto their maps, the actual amount can be substantially less than 1%.
Bork the world for the 1%. Sounds like the US government.
S’posedly 2 million accounts were sold for GW2, more in EU than NA. There’s 52 worlds. That’s about 40,000 accounts per world. You can only fit 1/80th of that into WvW. I guess that less than 1% of accounts are engaged in WvW at any given time.

Just how many people have to scurry off your server before you can’t even manage 1% participation? It’s not transfers, it’s that people give up.
An example – one week Yak’s Bend had at best 2 dozen on the maps, and lost miserably. All because of server transfers, right. Clock ticks to 5 on Friday, suddenly this transfer-plagued server filled the maps and completely pwned the opposition for an equally horrible one-sided match, only this time the sides had changed.
I know people are screaming about transfers fouling the sport, but I’m afraid it’s still gonna get us dismal matches, even after transfers are once-per-week.
I’m afraid if you made it easy to control aggro (like other games), what we have in game would be unappealing. The AI and scripts for boss fights are quite simplistic, based on the principle that tank-n-spank with no tank brings some challenge.
I’m thinking for me, a stack of 250 tonics is the functional equivalent of “Endless Tonic”
I’d think they go in the mystic forge just as well as any other lvl 80 exotic piece.
As far as abundance goes, they’ll sell for more than you can salvage them.
Do you see need for exotics as something that will increase over time faster than the amount of exotics in the game? I don’t know, myself.
If it were me with too many of something, I’d sell now, because storing stuff is a drag and there’s a time-value to money as well.
My prediction is you’re still gonna find that on NA servers, you’ll be getting lop-sided contests. It’s not cuz people leave a server that suddenly a server can’t get more than a dozen players on a map. It’s cuz people look at the score and give up until next week.
Watch some of the match-ups. You see a server owning nothing, with basically zero combatants. The next week comes and suddenly that same server has full maps, and is taking objectives like they always could.
I don’t think I care for your idea of a game, teviko. It sounds a lot like Rift, where there are roles.
What I like about GW2 is I’m never doing only one role.
Again – my guardian gets survivability by defense and proactive self-healing. Not enough to eat big hits, but enough to go toe-to-toe with position, blinds, blocks, and dodges.
How do I heal myself? Well, I do it by giving boons to allies.
How do I give boons to allies? Every time I do critical damage, I give ’em a stack of might.
So right there in one swing, I’m absorbing or avoiding damage, supporting my group, healing myself, and doing damage. Not switching from role to role, but doing all 4 roles in one swing. If you’re ever in a dungeon group and only doing one role, you suck.
pistol pistol thief has the very satisfying #3 skill “Unload.” It’ll never do as much damage as, say, a warrior with a rifle, but looks cool and is fun to play.
Engineer with pistol/pistol, they never actually shoot them both, and the shots feel rather weird (the sticky splurt #5, what is this a super-soaker?).
I generally hate the way instead of fixing a bug they kludge in something to compensate.
This one, however, sorta like free server transfers til they can manage guesting, makes sense.
But, just like free server transfers, it’s sure to have unintended side-effects (such as softening the market for regular exotics).
It used to be a way to great wealth, back before they stopped any loot from dropping. Previously the mobs had a very high drop rate of the tiny loot bags that had the fine crafting mats (which sold for a silver or more for a while).
@mulch. Best source of karma is event jumping in Cursed Shore. Plinx chain, Abom, Tar, Arena, Jumping to Pent etc just to tag the event for the gold and back to Plinx.
Can get over 25k an hour. Give or Take
ok, farm it. The O.P. spent 40 levels in wvw. S/he already has a huge pile of karma ready to spend. My guard hit 80 and had enough k for 4 pieces that same day (if only the vendors were up).
I you’re thinking exotic gear, you can buy exotic armor with karma from select vendors in those 3 zones (Straits of Dev, Malchor’s, and Cursed Shores).
Most of the time the vendors aren’t there. It takes completion of a meta-event-chain for them to appear. But given the mention of “exotic” in the top post, those are what you’re looking for. I would reckon you get as good or better karma in wvw.
I don’t think a new trinity helps understand. At this point, people who run dungeons have done dozens of them. And they know what their characters can and must do to handle that content. At no point am I ever strictly a drawer or a flanker or an A-thing.
Consider my guardian.
My best source of self-healing is — buffing others.
A great source of damage is — putting up retaliation.
I am almost constantly putting up blind — is that drawing flanking or the A-thinging? Doesn’t really matter — it’s one of the things that makes the big attacks miss and is one of the things that approaches the “not just swinging a sword” idea from the manifesto.
I was astounded not to have the title “Champion of Orr” after it being declared in my story-line.
On the other hand, people don’t really see your title, not hardly ever, cuz we don’t even have assist-targetting or targetted heals like in other games.
So it doesn’t really matter, eh.
So the ruining of pve by moaning pvpers has started just 2 months after the games release. HOW VERY SAD
This actually isn’t the first of it, won’t be the last…
What’s worse is it’s not actual pvp but wvw which s’posedly wasn’t going to be actively balanced…
I really don’t think the problems we’ve seen with unbalanced wvw matches will be solved by limiting transfers to 1/week.
That’s a terrible design flaw.
BTW-The only way you can kick a party member requires a vote (and frequently that option is bugged anyway).
It’s sooo easy compared to GW2 dungeons, good light-hearted fun. No, you don’t get tokens. Prob’ly the loot is no different from other things you could do. Certainly not as good as the 3hr dragons. But, the event illustrated to me that I’m already kind of tired of the other stuff. So it’s a great break.
You certainly don’t miss out on anything if you don’t do it. But if you’re playing GW2, the only group-related thing that’s “for a limited time only” is this little dungeon.
I still just have 2 80s, and it’s been nice to play an alt or two for this stuff.
Actually, I went off to Orr last night, and realized I just hate it too much. The holiday stuff is at least a good break from “the rest of the game.”
The “play with your friends anywhere” was such a big part of the game’s promotion.
It’s also a justifying argument for why you can only have one server (with just 5 slots), which is so restrictive compared to other games.
I know they’re still struggling to get /party functionality to work properly. It’s unfortunate it’s taking so long after launch to get this basic bit.
But… really should get guesting up before restricting server transfers.
Cultural armor? I wish we could buy for karma.
I looked at the karma weapons and felt like it was too much k for what you get.
In terms of trying things out, you can take a brand new character, go to the mists, and have full 80 gear all skills and traits to try out. There’s the golems to hit, and also characters of each profession to spar (and you could jump in a game if you like, too).
Mesmer start really slow til you get a full utility bar and some traits.
Guardian is great but their range isn’t. Kill speed isn’t too bad, depending how you set it up.
30 days
/15characters…
Just bug-fixes alone could be massively huge.
I’m hoping they’ll get some social functionality improvements, such as guild alliances +/or private chat channels, better guild and party functions. With this if they just copied mmos from 10 years ago, that’d be fine.

I’m confident that everything wrong with the WvW game will still be wrong, even after server transfers are restricted.

Curiously, people who are addicts and people with compulsions tend not to derive much pleasure from engaging in their addictive/compulsive behavior.
I watched my son beat the tower. Of course he’s young, and teenagers are weird about most things. But he enjoyed it, figuring out each step along the way, except for having to wait between attempts.
Thread is more about grammar than guild wars.
I don’t see how different graphics would do anything except give another thing for ANet to have bugs with.
I ran a dungeon with a player with the greatsaw and someone with the scythe. Both very truly cool, regardless if crafted, dropped, or whatever.
I agree that the quick patches are great.
I wish there was a bit more advanced notice.
Note that 3 minutes is generally less time than a D.E. or champion fight. Some of the personal story instances take closer to a half-hour. If they have the build ready to go at 5:15 pm, would it hurt to push it at 5:45 instead of 5:18?
I’ve gotten the message when all I’ve said is ‘ty’ in /say for getting revived.
I’ve gotten the message when as far back as I can scroll, I didn’t say anything.
I’ve also talked and talked and talked without getting suppressed.
I think it’s ok for ANet to have a system that enables them to save a lot of labor $$ from policing chat-channel abusers. But they need to get this code to actually work as it should (like so many things in GW2).
Part of the trouble with going full defense on a guardian is we have the thing where we give allies might when we crit. We also (depending on build) get healed every time we give a boon to an ally. So especially in AoE, if you have a high crit rate, your passive self-healing is fantastic (on top of the protection/retaliation/aegis etc boons you’re giving). So you really do need a good bit of precision, too.
I dunno — one thing that’s always true in life is
“people freakin hate getting unsolicited advice”
I remember in sPvP, a guy said to me “ur build sucks u dont deserf to be a thief”
which prob’ly is true. But it po’ed me.
So even tho we were ahead, when it gave me the chance to switch teams, I did, killed the punk, and pulled out a win for my new team.
That was THE absolute best moment in GW2 for me. Again, not because he wasn’t right, or possibly god’s favorite kitty. But cuz he talked about my playstyle when I didn’t ask for his feedback.
So the O.P. —- prob’ly was correct that the other guy needs to L2P. And squeezing someone out of their tokens is low. Twice I’ve had dungeon runs where we got to the end and didn’t get anything from bugs, and that’s just infuriating (cuz ANet won’t do anything about it). But we can’t see the whole conversation, and whatever one sows, that will he also reap.
I’ve tested it in the mists. It’s true, even tho the tooltip will show the wrong thing, the breather only contributes when you’re underwater and the regular helm only contributes when you’re above water.
You can watch in map chat for people who’re looking for group, or have a group looking for more. Good bets are to be in Lion’s Arch, or the zone the dungeon is in (e.g., Queensdale for Caudecus Manor). You can also “/m LFG for ____” Fill in the blank with the dungeon you want to run.
A better, more permanent solution is to join a guild. I think there’s a forum here for guilds to recruit. Again, watch map chat for people who’re recruiting for guilds.
Also, when you party someone whom you feel like you like, tell them so, put them on your friends list, and ask about their guild.
You can quickly make friends in a game like GW2. Just take the first step…
Approx 2 million accounts for GW2 were sold. There’s almost certainly a group of people that’d be compatible with you for dungeon runs.
Join a guild, ideally one that’s social and does dungeons.
type /g I’m looking to run AC, who’d like to join up?
Good things will happen.
People do them all the time. You just need to connect with them.
I found a lot of events happening in the Mad King’s labrynth area. You’ll be bolstered to 80, so level isn’t an issue, and the xp was really good, too.
Up to your ears in Trick or Treat bags and candy corn. Be sure to bring a lot of salvage kits, too.
The mid-levels, it can be hard to find many events because the zones your level seem so very empty. I think you’d do better, if it’s just events you want, to go either lowbie zone or the 80 zone. 50 in 3 days is a lot, but I’d not say “impossible” 50 in 6 hours of gameplay, however, does seem unlikely.
I think should keep the Orbs buff the way it is.
Perhaps change outmanned to work roughly the same as the Orb buff.
The wiki doesn’t say how outmanned is calculated, tho. How many more do the other two teams need to outnumber you for it to count. If team A outnumbers team B, does team B get the outmanned buff when facing team C, too?
If you’ve played a real pvp game, you’ve seen real spawn-camping.
This ain’t it.
You can rez, get your health up, repair, and everything. And then choose one of 3 exits. OR make your own exit by dodge-roll off very jump-off-friendly cliffs.
I won’t do the supposed “spawn camping” myself, but I very much empathize with people who say “this is NOT spawn camping.” Cuz it ain’t even possible in GW2 wvw to actually camp a respawn spot (and not even in half the pvp maps, either).
I think some of yall talking about something different.
Here’s a for example.
I have a guardian and would like it if my gap closer were on the same key for sword as it is for greatsword. In other games, I would drag the 3 on greatsword and swap its position with 2. So that way sword, greatsword and hammer would all match for the gap-closer.
It’s not an issue of rebinding keys. It’s not an issue of is the existing skill system forcing me to consider what weapon goes with which utility skills.
It’s about UI functionality that was present in ancient primitive games like Everquest 1 and Guild Wars 1. Call me spoiled, but I think poorly of a company that can’t manage a UI that’s this useful.
The way the sigils work, that +5% only applies to abilities based on that weapon (so 1-3 for main hand, 4-5 for off-hand). That’s why the +crit doesn’t show up on your character sheet.
I don’t know what it does for #3 on a dual-wielding thief. The same principle applies for the +5% damage.
Incidentally, going to the mists and trying this stuff out on the combat golems there is a handy (FREE!!) way to test before you buy.
I’d encourage anyone who’s having trouble finding people to play with to keep looking for a guild that’s compatible.
I’m in one that I like a lot and find people to do group content with all the time, and even for doing “soloable” content, too. Makes the game more fun if you have more options.
I’ve learned that all the exotic karma armor sets (that you get in Orr) share the same skin.
Are there any other armor sets that share that same skin?
I just got my 2nd alt to 80, and got the chest, legs, and boots for him. I’m looking for gloves, shoulders, and helm (altho could hide the shoulders and/or helm).
If there’s not a set that matches exactly, is there any you’d suggest that would go well?
Here’s link to pic

He wears heavy, if that matters.
You really can’t call playing the game how it is to be exploiting.
I spent a few hours in the labrynth. I got 2 exotics. I admit that’s 2 more than I’d get if I were running in a Cursed Shore zerg. It didn’t feel like an exploit. And furthermore, if I left after my first chest, those same exotics would have dropped for someone else.
I love them big jugs!
I have to admit, they do seem extra generous. And whereas at first you think maybe it’s ArenaNet’s attempt to improve its standing with disgruntled players, the rapid nerfing of the Labrynth yesterday makes me suspicious.
I agree it feels like ANet is deviating from the flexibility that’s granted in every other major mmo game on the market, with no apparent reason.
It is a bother, and hampers my gameplay experience.
Yes I can muck about with keybinds, but as illustrated above we can’t do even simple things like move skills so our gap closer is always on the same key as we swap weapons, for example.
In general is the worst UI I’ve suffered, I think since forever.
It’s like a lot of other things you can do in life.
Some like to hurry and be done with it asap.
Others like to take their time and enjoy it.
Ask your playmates which way they like it best.
2) There’s always patch note. they are there:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news
They are usually posted between 1 to 10 minutes after a patch.
Well that’s just it, isn’t it?
Check the link and there’s soooo much that’s missing. How many new builds came out yesterday, including a bunch of content, yet the newest link there is from 24/10.
I don’t get what you mean.
Im a thief, this is a profession that’s supposed to be PVP yes?Yet when I PVE, I provide massive protection to my allies by blinding everything each time I go stealth, I also do quite a decent amount of DPS vs a single target or multiple targets depending on when I use daggers or a bow.
I don’t get how im not contributing to my team :|
You are contributing to a team, no matter which team you’re on. Thief is awesome in both areas.
An elementalist or necro, for example, does fine in pve, but doesn’t contribute nearly as much as a mesmer in pvp.
I really wouldn’t call pvp end-game in GW2 because you can start it just minutes after character creation.
Absolutely, with no doubt at all, there are some professions that are very weak in pvp (elementalist comes to mind as the worst, but basically anyone who’s not a mesmer warrior guardian or thief).
It’s got nothing to do with end game, cuz GW2 the endgame is the start-game, especially in pvp. You could play 1000 hours and your character will be no different from its first hour.
That system is sooo buggy. Generally I can go my whole play session blabbing away, but then the suppression kicks in at really weird times. I was chat-suppressed yesterday and had not said a single thing as far back as I could scroll. I was chat-suppressed the other day and the only thing I had said was “/say ty” for receiving revives (the rest was on voip).
Yet other times you can /say or /map or /team long conversations with no suppression.
The system is important, I suppose, for the health of our community. However, the system as implemented is rubbish.
