I’d like a buff to my thief. But I’m quite certain that guardians would happily trade their scepter skills for thief shortbow 1-3. #1 is fast and bounces. It’s great. If you need 1200 range, the 2 blast is wicked.
Even a Dolyak can move out of the way before a scepter blast arrives.
I can’t imagine adding another weapon set for a profession. Cuz they’d have to add another set for every other profession, and then what do you do for engi and el, and so on.
How about if they made it you could have the look of a rifle with P/P? Just take the animations from engi/war…
Really at the heart it’s an empirical question and one for which the answer may differ for another player.
Here’s the way I see it. You can change your traits for a pittance. Changing your runes/sigils is fairly costly. Changing your gear is really expensive.
So really this takes a bit of experimenting, and I’m afraid time spent with free gear respecs in the Mists isn’t gonna help much, since it’s dungeons where the kitten hits the kitty box.
I guess another cheaper solution would be to try it out with green or yellow gear before jumping in feet first to exotics that may not pan out.
What people don’t know is that the legendaries ARE more powerful that the other exotics of their level. They’re level 81 exotics! You get that tiny tiny tiny little boost. like 15 damage boost. It’s kinda funny.

Guildwars2 wiki seems to contradict this assertion at least for some of the weapons. In particular, Sunrise is listed as a 995-1100 weapon, incinerator is the same damage as its predecessor, quip same as lvl 80 exotic…
I thought it capped at 4.
As to why you’d be in more than one — maybe you have a RP guild, a WvW guild, and an sPvP guild.
IME if you DC and attempt to re-enter on the actual same character, there’s a good chance it’ll end up breaking, too.
As noted tho, there’s not any good reason not to just play the character you want, cuz tokens are account bound.
If the alt needs the xp, just play the alt, yeah?
My SO and I went back to a low-level zone (Harathi) cuz she needed some cooking ingredients, and we did some playing around/map completion. No, there’s not a lot of challenge to it, but there wasn’t much challenge to it when played at level vs auto-scaled, regardless. PvE in GW2 is just that way.
Here’s the trouble — the loot is lowbie stuff which sells for lowbie prices. But, it costs a couple silver to waypoint there, 1.6 silver for a repair, and so on. You’re at at least the same risk as in a 70-80 zone, but you don’t get the payoff, yet suffer lvl 80 costs.
It ends up that just like any other MMO, you’re much better off if you make a lowbie alt to do low-level content. Which would be fine, except ANet gave all this BS talk about it not being like every other MMO.
Over-promised, under-delivered, again.
I just can’t see any use for the portal that isn’t to move people from one place to another that they couldn’t just easily walk there themself.
If not to scale walls, what’s it for? Helping non-jumpers get vistas?
Why create this tool, if not for this?
I’m afraid that ANet’s response to fixing bugs and bad design is instead of fixing the actual problem, put in some other thing to block it.

I’m guessing it was too hard to figure out how to parse character names. Some have 1 name. Some have a whole sentence. It did feel awkward having my supposed best friend act like he doesn’t know my name yet.
Bugged for me. Got it thru on the 4th attempt. Made me wish there was a save-progress option.
I think this one, maybe you have to follow exactly the steps the developers imagined you should take. Ironically, the quest after this one will bug unless you break off and leave your NPCs behind.
Pray for robustness.
The problem is not the dynamic events. The bots go there for the same reason crooks choose to rob a bank. That’s where the money is.
The problem is the lack of integrity with the game that enables so many botters (and hackers) to do it so well with impunity.
Cultural sets are way expensive. Seemingly priced just to keep the bot-army fed and cover their netcafe fees.
DE means dynamic events, those repeating scripted events in Orr, in particular, if you’re wantin to make gold.
Seriously, no one plays GW2 anymore. The servers are way too crowded, and don’t get me started on the WvW queues.

Suggestion: a character expansion slot is pretty cheap with the exchange rates lately.
If you think you might want armorsmithing 400 but don’t want to play the character, just keep it as a dedicated crafter/banker, and play in a new slot.
I think everything has too much HP at 80. Mobs and every profession. Even gates and walls could do with a diet.

I had a problem with it on Wednesday where I was able to lead the group down to the green star at the end of the (blocked) south exit, and it just stalled there.
Most people started the game a month ago.
I recently went back to newbie area (Black Citadel/Charr starting grounds), and there were plenty of people. It wasn’t packed, but it was ok. Unfortunately the first 2 events were bugged, but that’s another thread.
The troubles are in the middle zones. When playing alts, I’m not seeing people, events aren’t going on.
For most of us, it’s ok. We have our crowded top level zones. We’re no longer looking for jute, but ectos instead.
I don’t think we, as a community, can really do much to help new players, cuz there’s just not many of them. For the slower-to-level players (for example my son, they’ll need some help to keep a sense of vibrance about the game.
Unfortunately, story-mode dungeons are not worth repeating, and we’ve discovered the myth that even if you’re 80 it’s s’posedly still rewarding to revisit lower-level content. So, hope the lower-level folks are into joining the zerg in wvw.
When I go back on alts, things really seem empty in mid-level zones.
Kinda wish they’d do something innovative and get zones that aren’t specifically server/world based, to better manage population.
But I think population has nothing to do with the boxes (not) being on store shelves. And the supposed stopping of digital sales was a sham – they kept right on selling digital downloads thru the more common sellers (amazon bestbuy.com etc)
Well, you’d think using the built in interface as it’s designed would be safe, but they’ve said they’ll ban you if you use autoshoot. And they’ve said they’ll ban you if you multibox.
I really only tolerate underwater fights as they’re needed.
It’s sooo sluggish and slow and can’t see and too many “invulnerable” mobs and not fun.

Kinda like how Blizzard promised they’d never ban a gold-buyer, and sure enough, plenty of unabashed gold buyers keep playing the game.
It’d be nice. I’d like to get the items back, paid for as necessary, and get access to the graphics I didn’t choose. I didn’t find out about the unique looks until too late for some of mine.
For a RPG, it’s not all that good.
But for a MMO, the only better I’ve seen was in Age of Conan.
IF you can get it to load, bringing a friend or two is a good idea for any content in a MMO that feels too hard.
I re-ran it. This time I left the convoy behind and went around to the 3rd tower area and cleared all the mobs before bringing the group in. They joined up for tower 1. The scary part was, of course tower 1 isn’t actually there until after the bomb goes off, and I and a bunch of mobs were fighting where it ended up appearing. I was so afraid we’d get glitched, cuz those were the last few mobs in the whole zone….
Fortunately it didn’t glitch, things worked out and I’m on to the next stage.
It’s a MMORPG. In other games, you were “forced” to group/raid to complete your epic quest lines. So too here, but only the last step.
I’m actually rather disappointed at the LACK of reasons to interact or behave like a community in GW2. This tiny bit of social engineering, I think you can deal with it.
“personal story” is better labeled “The Saga of Trahearne,” so yeah, you really are a replaceable cog in his war machine…
Not loving the Trahearne part. You know, the Caithe character and voice actor… I could have gotten into following her.
Trahearne’s whiney “I’m a scholar, not a soldier” to which I’m “then step aside and let a real man do the job!”
I got stuck on this today. (Which after having to do the previous one 4 times before got unbugged version, zomg what a bother!)
I did get the check mark for killing all the beach mobs. I did have one undead that was almost completely immune, like it was stuck in geometry or something, except every 20th or so autoattack would cause damage, so I just stood and 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 til it died.
I double-checked everything, every room, even underwater, and nothing was alive in the zone. I didn’t get downed during the quest at all, neither did my pet, all friendly NPCs were fine except I revived the ones that were already on the hill by tower 3…
Also, not one of the towers was visible until after the bomb went off.
Edit: in case it’s relevant — the mob that was invulnerable, the NPCs ignored except for one of the Charr guys. My pet would have nothing to do with it. But we DID kill it eventually, about 5% of attacks eventually started to hit. But it didn’t fix the bug.

Took me 4 (yes kittens times kittenly 4) attempts to get thru that one. What really sucks is it’s soooooo long, and each time you have to start at the very beginning. I got all the way to the end by the green star, didn’t die, none of my NPCs are dead, and nothing.
Another time, was getting attacked by invisible mobs. Another time, just plain old dumped out of the game. By the fourth time, believe me, you’re tired of that voice acting.
I don’t think I ever rezzed Trahearne, but I did notice that he wouldn’t heal between combat. Acts like a typical MMO tank and wants you to top him off. I swear I’m spiking his drink with Round-Up next time.

Since it’s soooo kiten long, how about a save point so we don’t have to go all the way back. At least separate the stupid talky talky stuff from the fighty stuff.
PvP game, all behavior is part of the war. Oh wait, it’s not…
As pointed out, WvW run with the zerg, you’ll get there eventually. Or you can organize a group and grind the dungeons for ’em.
They didn’t say everything you might want to get will be quick and easy. What they said is that it’ll be grind-free to get 80 and decent gear.

The barrier type skills can either be used to gather or separate, depending how they’re used.
Go ahead and blame guardians for controlling mobs the way you don’t want them to. Don’t see you in the middle gathering them up (and takin the hits). :p
It is really ‘streamlined’ with not as much choice for customizing as other games. But there is some.
It really feels like a port of a console game, oftentimes to me.

You don’t have to be a glass cannon, not by any means. It seems to be number of hits, not the amount of damage. So go ahead and put some vitality in your gear, it’s good for you.
The thing not to do is waste your time as, say, a staff guardian who can do no damage, unless you put a spirit weapon out first. Boons and heals and condition-removing will win you friends, just not loot.

Not so much, no. It’s a game that’s going to have bugs and lag, and you shouldn’t really punish someone for lagging out.
What I do miss, however, is proper risk vs reward balancing. Right now some of the best items come from crafting, which is 0 risk, while uniting Tyria and taking out an elder dragon gets you a few lv 78 greens.

ya, after EQ I played Lineage-2, where on death you could drop items, and non-consensual pvp was included. You’re really on the edge of your seat when you see an enemy clan bringing a train of mobs your way.
I do look back fondly. I think somewhat it’s like when you think back to your summer outings, you tend not to remember the mosquitos.
Another aspect of Lineage 2 and real pvp games is that your pvp happened in the actual world, not off on a different map like it is in GW2, and when my clan owned a castle it gave us access to things other people couldn’t get unless they paid us. Oh, and we collected taxes from everyone else, too.
This consequence-free style of pvp (what do they call it, an e-sport now?), people call it carebear or whatever. But fact is, the US market really can’t tolerate real pvp in mmos.
Consider what we have is 80+ skill points. If you want to call each new level a level, more power to ya.

Since you’re grouping with thief and engineer, it’d make sense to go either light or heavy, so you can trade drops with them.
I think you should follow the crowd and go warrior.
Engineer is best for support. Boons and heals and CC
I don’t know why people say elementalist cuz they don’t have a lot to give. Is it the combo fields?
On my guardian the only time I use staff is in wvw swapped with scepter for range. Staff gives you basically no offensive skills.
Guardians give good boons and have effective ways to remove conditions.

That achieve is just plain bugged. I dinged mine this month shortly after dying off a cliff. So at least for me that death doesn’t count. But as noted, if you zone, the counter seems to reset.
I don’t feel bad that I got it when I shouldn’t have, because I went several levels (and each level is over 100k) without dying. It’s just kittenly code they wrote for that one.
I group with guildmates, for pve and wvw. It’s handy to see the blue-dots of them on the mini-map, even if you’re not doing a dungeon, say.
Get a good guild and you’ll find partymates for whatever you’re doing.
We even do ’em for gathering mats.
I think they have to solve the issue of rare resources being repeatedly farmable when you go to diff servers first.
I can never tell what thread moved, cuz it takes me to a page in a diff forum (usually suggestions) with only threads I’ve never seen.
