Yes, and still a very good theif player is better than an average another class imo.

Actually ive seem some very good thief players that carry games viciously from time to time… problem is, they are less than 10% of the thiefs, so if you ask some thief to reroll, you have likely more than 90% chance of beeing right.

That frustrates thiefs that are good enough to pull off, and imo ANY person that has very good awareness and decent thief skills can carry low rank games.

Imo below ruby division no one loses because of a thief… they lose because someone, maybe the thief, and others on the team, are bad (not unskilled but don’t know how to make their team win, just don’t know what to do or how to do it)

They often get 2 points, attempt to capture far, lose a fight there by overcommiting and snowball that losing mid, than they start to suicide on mid and far splitting forces until the enemy team gets 500. After that they blame the thief.

Typical game.
Also, you forgot the usual slow kitten necro (or whatever but in the case of a necro it’s even more laughable) who for some reason decided it’d be in his team’s best interest to spent 75% of his time crawling to far, 15% of his time dying there, and 10% respawning, while stealing one of the thief’s main job which is to rotate and decap far soon as the pressure allows him to.

I’m so freaking tired of having to explain such basic things, 90% of my games as a thief, to people who then complain useless teef because they basically destroyed my role in the team comp and have absolutely 0 idea of how they’re supposed to synergise with a thief in their team. Ok that’s probably too much to ask, since to begin with they can’t understand respawn snowball.

I queue as a thief. If the enemy team comp seems weak to fast decap / rotations and +1 i keep it.
If there’s another thief in my team i reroll, and most of the time it’s a huge disappointement because most thieves have absolutely 0 knowledge of rotation, quick decap and +1.
If the enemy team comp doesn’t seem to work in my thief’s favor, i reroll.
If there’s more than 1 DH/scrapper, i reroll.

Profession MMR is disabled.

Correct class is not used for MMR but they still look at which classes are played most, which builds/traits used most to determine popularity etc.

They then throw the data away and just nerf war and thief more and keep buffing Ele.

Well i’m under the impression everyone complains about any class except the engineer and they always end up being the stealthy top dog.

“50/50” is not a actual mechanic, it’s not like you’re set to win and then set to lose.
“50/50” is not the issue, the quantity of utterly horribly bad players is the issue, and mmr hell is still a thing.
Anet can’t fix horribly bad players.

Oh no, you don’t know ?
DH was pushed out of the entire game because you know, it’s so useless and bad, and easy to beat, and by the way nobody plays DH anymore.

It’s certainly not just out of the very very TOP meta games while still running rampant in 90% of the lower pvp’s meta with a ratio of 2-3 DH per team in any given game.
It doesn’t contribute to entirely shutting down thieves either, since there’s absolutely no one playing DH.
Oh and, listen to all those twitch professionnal (spectators) telling you how trash it is, all of them are obviously top end meta players, everybody knows how huge the top end pvp community is, they’re certainly not acting like pros because they read metabattle and look at a few abjured games and repeat what they heard like zombie parrots to look tough.
They farmin’ DHs all day long, even though nobody plays that horribad spec anyways.
Anyone in their right mind only plays rev/scrapper/mes/drood and the occasionnal tempest anyways, right ? DH certainly doesn’t contribute to how poor the build diversity has become.

15 losing streak

I was on a 20+ win streak, and then suddenly i started to be teamed up with full signet rifle warriors, 22222 longbow rangers, condi teevz (not even venom share), insta die bunker guards, and a general very low skilled type of player who obviously prefer to gank svanir and spend the entire game chase off point rather than contributing in anyway to the victory.
Usually there’s one other player who tries to actually play the kitten game but that’s all.
Couldn’t believe my eyes, had to check if i didn’t accidentally keep on pressing hotjoin, but no.
Went from mid ruby to 0 ruby. I’m so happy right now.

Was on a 14 win streak, one win away from ruby, and then some numbskull ele decided he wouldn’t play because he had a teef (me) in his team.
Worst, most people in my team and the other decided he was right and i was the actual liability. (FYI the match wasn’t even started)

So funny when i’m doing my best every game to create +1s and some kitten necro shouts on map chat i’m bad and useless because i don’t stay and fight a 1v1 far i was actually winning but becoming a 1v2, to go create a +1 mid (which ended up badly because the pro ele almost instadied there.)

Welp, regular soloQ kittenbags, it’s a bit saddening but hey, got to ruby the very next game.
Point is, you know you’re a better player than they are, and they’re just that bad they won’t realize it in any case, so don’t waste your time arguing, the best you can hope is to fight them some other time and humiliate them (although they’d still find an excuse).

I dunno you, but EU is utterly filled with DH braindeads to the point where there’s at least 2/3 DH per team at anytime now.

So, yea, it’s a really, really bad time to be thief main since there’s litteraly nothing you can do against that 0 neurone kitten of a spec unless you build especially to counter those kittens and become useless anywhere else.

FYI i’m running a S/D variation which gives pretty good results against most fotm specs, even those broken viper revs. But what’s the point since where i stand, it’s like 1 viper rev for 10 DH zombies.

If anything, thieves need a reliable access to stability and not that pathetic attempt they gave us in the acro line pre HoT.

I don’t understand what’s the problem, granted it’s no fun being farmed by premades when all you have is soloQ, but still, gw2 pvp is ultimately team designed.

We finally have a system that makes sense and rewards being good vs non sense grinding (meaningless ranks, anybody can have it reward tracks) to show off where we actually stand skill wise.
I thought the pvp player base was dying for a system like that.

Of course it doesn’t prevent fotm farming and the overall balance leaves somewhat to be desired but hey, i see many of you recalling the good old GW1 HA days and it wasn’t so different, even worst imo.

About the 50% ratio, yes, and i think it’s fair, i personnaly know i won’t get past ruby and i’m fine with it, people who go past that 1/ team queue 2/ are better than me.

Every time Anet manages to come (again ! dont you freaking leanr ?) with a massive abomination such as turret engi, perma bunk aoe spam ele, trap ranger, and now this utmost stupidity DH brings to the table, you’ll find some fish brains defending the concept saying it’s easy to beat.

Yea, it’s easy to beat, with certain specs.
It still ruins the whole combat mechanics, is stupid easy to play, brings way too much unpredictable punishment, and easily ruins any teamplay that isn’t voice chat synced.

Just stop thinking with your e-balls and admit it : it’s plain stupid, uninteresting, and does way too much for what it actually is.

I just feel i need to point at that, if you are able to stand your ground 1v2 somewhere doesn’t mean your team will necessarily gain an advantage 4v3.
Because chances are, the enemy team also has at least one person who is able to endure a 1v2.
Then it should all come down to who is able to outsmart the other team’s rotation. Which is a term that eludes most players.

I don’t understand the point of unranked alone either.
I still queue there because there’s much less chance to fight against premades.
But then again, that was the whole point of SoloQ so, i really don’t get it.

If the goal is to give players the opportunity to train before actual tpvp, then by all means keep unranked, but give us back SoloQ.

I miss RA. Without syncers and with how the current matchmaking sets team comps it’d be pretty fun.
Although the mmr balance within teams often leads to some very disappointing games.

It’s also stun break. And you can trait for 2 of it, one on 36s on flank (hardly stunbreak but still), one 48s on demand + 1 condi cleanse.
On top of that, improvisation.
It’s does wonders on a s/d DA – acro – trick build. Same goes for s/p but pistolwhip spam is the most cheesy teef playstyle, so i personnaly don’t care.

Thrill of the crime + bountiful theft are overrated habits, very good but no longer mendatory.
Flanking strikes + trickster + improvisation + swindler’s equilibrium (sleight of hand still) is a wonderful yet underrated trait combo (withdraw – haste – RFI).

Mesmer rune / rune of the pack, whichever.
I’m not the best teef out there so i can’t always make the best out of it but i assure you with so much dodge at your disposal you won’t regret that zerker amy.
Gotta have extremely fast reflexes though, which can be an issue against others teefs when they open from stealth but don’t immediately show up (is it just me or something broke regarding this ?).

I don’t know, it’s like a “hey, let’s promote and reward active play” in an environment plagued with passive, fire and forget, instant, aoe, spammable everlasting and uber forgiving things that two shot you (or two seconds melt you).

What’d be awesome though, would be to tweak a kitten load of skills and traits on every class to work with this type of active play in mind.

But it’s not the case.

So, yea, meaningless. And what’s the point of vigorous recovery on top of it, also.

Well, i don’t know about the others, but i left because of dumbfire, i came back to leave again because of the solo queue engi fest, and now i’m about to leave again thanks to PU / mantra shatter blind bots, cele ele burn + blind bots, rampage war bots (not so much this last one but it still ruins the day out of nowhere).

I guess it’s my own fault for not rolling one of the 4 so called meta /impulse101 builds.

I don’t understand Anet’s process, and the more i think about it, the more it figures they gave up on balance waaay back then and decided they’d rather play fot6m musical chairs instead, much easier to do.

You can immobilise him before he goes into mist form so he just stands still for a good portion of the duration, although it’s not so reliable.

It’s not exclusive to flanking strike, there are many times you would need that one skill to fire immediately but it won’t because you"re waiting for an animation to end.

While the majority of us probably agree, animation cancel in video games always lead to increase dps which is not healthy for balance.
For example, the old DoD:S kar98k was a lever rifle, but you could actually cancel the lever animation by fast switching weapons and back to the kar98k to gain a precious second before firing the next shot.
In GW1 you could cancel animation queue by fast strafing around your target and pressing escape while switching weapon sets.
This is how you ended up with hammer / axe warriors and hammer sins, for example.

While it can be a bit frustrating to watch your thief finishing that cool move instead of actually put efforts into surviving, you as a player should see it as a slight aesthetic annoyance instead.
Disable AA if you need more controle over your skill queue.

You’re asking for power creep.

Stop asking for more power creep.

Buffs to match buffs to match buffs.

Thieves are pretty strong as it is, nerfs like feline grace’s are a good thing demanding better skills.
Some other class builds need nerfs, cele ele, condi PU, stunlock shatter, rampage, etc.

Burning is a bit too strong but people seem to forget this is also related to how they made vulnerability affect condis too, which was a very poor decision imo.

I hope we won’t have to suffer this mesmer/cele ele nonsense for the next 6 monthes but otherwise the game feels way better than it has these past months, and as thieves i think most of us are glad the never ending reign of the hard counter engi lovechild ended. Though i can’t help but fear it’s just people who need adjustment and we may go back to it. Or maybe engi fotms are busy fotm’ing mesmers. Hope not.

Like Eodwen, as a S/D thief, I personnaly only really have an issue with condi bomb management.
There is trickster, and it’s pretty good, especially combined with improvisation (although sorta redundant, it’s a good way to have your tricks up at most times).
But if you roll trickster, you forfeit bountiful theft, and considering the food chain winners Cele eles and PU condi / stun shatter mesmers, without boon bane you might as well /sit.
And if you pick bountiful theft, then enjoy the everspam of non ending blind burn torment confusion.

I’d say the thief is actually in a very good position right now, steal buff is absolutely awesome and people are way too fast to forget about it, but those two ele/mes broken cheeseclass eventually overshadow it.

We don’t need a power creep style buff, we need, along with other classes, mesmers and cele eles (builds ofc) brought in line with the rest of the classes.

They need to draw a clearer bridge between pvp and other game modes.

What do we do with 50x stacks of account bound Empyreal Fragments and stuff, i’m willing to bet most of the pvper’s never bothered learning crafting professions.

What do we do with the handfull silvers we get when the proper equipment costs hundreds/thousands of gold to get for proper WvW gear. I’m talking ascended gear and loads of consumables.
Plus the recent changes got the price of desired runes and such to skyrocket.

Bags overflowing with meaningless chests offering keys for places we’ll never visit, shower of trash loot to sell for a copper, a hundred thousand clicks to empty, even worst when it’s something asking for it’s exact name to be deleted.

~12000 games since launch, (and certainly not the most) 3 pieces of ascended gear, only one with the desired stats. I’m still poor and now have to spend a currency to change skin, the only benefit we had from camping the mists.
And that’s still very PVE, most of us very rarely step outside the mists.

There’s a good possibility they will come out broken though, in my experience it always starts like this when a new class is introduced.
Which leads to a very unpleasant experience in game since 90% of the player base will switch to the new class.

Remove the evade part, put a reflect damage, projectiles and active condi applications instead. Keep the short frame to make it a skillfull “counter attack”.

Doesn’t reflect AoEs.

% damage of reflection is based on base reflected skill modified by your own attributes, and spread through up to 3 targets in a 130 radius if reflecting melee damage, if ranged then back to the owner.

Does nothing if used while not under attack.

Infusion of shadow trait. Initiative return 2 —>3. I get it, you don’t want perma stealth d/p guys spamming it. but even with 3 initiative return it isn’t perma stealth-able.

Don’t you remember ? When they nerfed infusion of shadow a while back so it only applies when you enter stealth, they improved the initiative gained from 2 to 2 to compensate the loss.

My belief is ranged combat is impossible to balance in this game because of one thing – tab targeting => no skill needed to aim ranged attacks.

Yes I know it’s not a shooter but here lies the problem. Then we either have:
- ranged skills too weak as in the past with combat strongly favouring melee
- ranged skills too strong with no skill required compared to melee

Ranged combat DOES require skill. It’s incredibly biased to say otherwise.

A ranged damage dealer has to be capable of keeping away from the enemy, which requires well timed snares, knock downs, immobilizes, etc to limit the enemy’s advance while simultaneously desperately avoiding any of the opponent’s control effects and trying to continuously run away without turning your back on the enemy so you can keep doing damage.

Melee counters this strategy with gap closing skills to get in close and utilize their own slows and control effects trying to keep the ranged fighter in melee range.

It’s called kiting. It’s in just about every RPG ever invented, and it’s the single most important skill a ranged fighter can have.

but if the ranged damage is close to the melee damage, or the ranged class is just as survivable, what excatly is gained by getting close? thats the problem, IF ranged is too powerful.
the melee has to do the exact same things that you say make the ranged skilled, except they do no damage when they arent doing it well.

I agree with the poster, that ranged damage basically has to be balanced by complex mechanics/set ups or perhaps more mechanics to block ranged damage. If succesful closing the gap mattered, i think you might have a point, but it really doesnt.

and this is also why we have this AMAZING, and seemingly COMPLETELY UNKNOWN third form of damage called CONDITIONS.

Which means, HIT EM ONCE, JUST ONCE, and time will deal with the rest.

Amazing concept is it not? Whoever thought up such a great “middle ground” form of damage between hitting many times in melee or many times at range must be a genius.

If only people could apply those conditions against ranged classes. Oh wait, THEY CAN.

How?

Condition Gear + block skill + Rune of the Guardian.
Any multi hitting skill – rekt by perma fire.
Any other skill – still rekt by perma fire.
Stop attacking to avoid perma fire – dealing no damage.

Along with the completely unknown 4th form of damage that comes from node size spammable AoE’s whithout any form of CD penalty and deal the same damage no matter where you stand on it.

Also, rejoice, soon, even shortbow will cleave.

I tried almost exactly the same build a while ago, you end up seriously lacking stun and CC management while spending way too much time in stealth to be of any use in spvp environment.

Also p/d thief is very weak against kiters, if you add blind on top of it there’s not much left to do.
