well then get the K model of 3770 should be 10-20bucks more and it will worth it
No Anet needs to fix their engine. In other games it should be fine both for your and your brother’s pc. In the mean time you can try overclocking cpus to increase your performance. But wouldnt bother much if the cpus arent K series tho might get hairy.
As the title suggests I am interested in finding out if I Should pick Intel or AMD.
To be more specific I am trying to figure out which one of these two i7 3770(I did not miss the “K” it’s just not there) or AMD Bulldozer FX-8320 would be better for gaming, and since the WvW aspect of GW2 is so heavily based on CPU I thought I would come here for some assistance. So far I assumed Intel was better for gaming because it has more power per core but I started to dig around a little and came across some people who claimed the AMD version would be better but they did not provide any proof to this so I am still not sure.I would appreciate any help with this dilemma, my PC is almost ready just need to figure out this last part.
Get Intel for MMOs and believe me I’m a genuine AMD user its just not providing the horse power you expect from it. And get the K series ones since you will most probably want to overclock it one day if not right away. And hey 4th series of intels were released like a month ago why bother with 3770? go for 4670k (i5) or 4770k i7.
In my experience with FX 8210 it tends to get very very hot when overclocked so it may be throttling down to prevent damage. Are you using an aftermaket cooler? If so check your temps anyways you may still be suffering from overheating due to a faulty installation or usage of incorrect amount of thermal compund. Also check your CPU’s behavior when you stutter does it change frequency and load? There were some tools to monitor it aside from windows resource monitor but i cant recall.
PS: Reread the OPs problem. If this has surfaced lately your thermal compound may be crying for a renewal as I said check if any overheating and thermal throttling going down in the system.

Running 32bit windows? got 3.2gigs of ram? Try increasing your page file amount. If doesnt work disable and retry. If still doesnt work get 64bit OS and try.
You are using ultra settings thats normal. lower settings get better fps. Start with Supersample, Fxaa, shadows.
I linked my brother’s PC because he uses the same settings and his GPU doesn’t load that much.
Bottlenecking 99% of gpu load is the way it should be yours is fine your brothers’ isnt. But still if you want to lower its load for I dont know why then you better start turning down the settings i told you earlier.
Probably your cooling pad doesnt do its job and you are experiencing over heating issues. Even desktops overheats running GW2. I’d start monitoring the temps get something like HW monitor or that sort of program to monitor Gpu and Cpu temps realtime. ?f you are going close to 100 on cpu its time to clean the laptop and re-apply thermal compound on both cpu and gpu.
1st world problems move to a lower populated server. We moved from Seafarer’s Rest to Ruins of Surmia no problems at all. Less skill lag, no queue, still fun.
You are using ultra settings thats normal. lower settings get better fps. Start with Supersample, Fxaa, shadows.
Mh…? I’ve been running my system over many months. Just after the contents patch everything got slower.
Id wipe the disk with the ocz linux tool and make a fresh instal right-away in a case like this since i dont mind spending time on refreshing my pc. If thats not too much trouble do it since you havent done a fresh install for like ages.
Are you on latest firmware? You hooked it up on Sata 6gpbs socket? Your mobo on latest bios? Installed windows without any disks attached to the system? My vertex 4 128 behaves normally when what I asked are done correctly tho.
Don’t use the hotfix for bulldozer or vishera processors. I used it and windows did not deactivate unneeded cores and the performance dropped very badly. I uninstalled it to let Windows manage which cores are used and it’s all fine. Lower frames are to be expected from the AMD counterparts unfortunately. I have the FX-8350 as well. Again, that hotfix for disabling the windows core parking is a bad idea.
I get like 30-40 FPS in lion’s arch central area and 60 FPS (v/sync is yes) in most other places and like 10 FPS in huge zerg battles in wvw but whatever that’s like one place.
also I use 7970s so we’re pretty even on this issue.
In fact, we have the same specs. Just different brands and I have a 7970 while you have a 7950 (high five for similar machines!)
The one thing that is holding back our processors is single threaded performance unfortunately.
the only way you’ll get performance like Intel users is by either switching to an intel processor like an i5 or i7, or overclocking the FX-8350 to like 4.5 GHz or something. But honestly? Don’t bother switching to an intel processor if it’s just for guild wars 2. This game’s great but no game is worth a 400-500 dollar upgrade for 20% better frame rates.
You realize that statement…it just isn’t true,At All ..right ?You will Not get a 20% performane boost from just switching to an i7,stop pulling numbers out of your kitten like that. The 8350 outperformance some i5 or even i7.Not even speaking about the price/perf ratio…
Well that statement is also not true… Single core performance of Amd Cput is like half of what Intel has so for MMOs Amd will not be as good as intel. Know the difference between CPU intensive games and GPU intensive games. For other games like Battlefield, Bioshock and similar kitten Amd can compete even get better performance than intel at certain resolutions but not on MMOs not with this single core performance.

Your problem is your expectations Turn your settings down already. This game is complete kitten when it comes to performance.

US player lagging on Desolation (EU server)

Here is my solution make your sister move to US servers and let her suffer the pain and problem solved.
for the loading times SSDs need some free space on them so they dont dump things around on the disk. As gurus in OCZ forums said these dump thing starts after the SSD load exceeds 50ish percent and you must not really exceed 75 percent space if you dont wanna see these at all. As the space shrinks frequency of dumping increases. So this might be your problem with the loading screens. Also you should make sure that both your and your husband’s SSDs are on the same Firmware its crucial for the SSDs that you use the latest firmware(Atleast its what their tech guys say).
As for the graphical issues are you sure that both pcs running at same CPU frequency? I mean both are at stock or both are overclocked to the same levels? If not check them when they are at equal speeds(because cpu power is everything in this game). And a while back people were talking about how 6xx series cards were crippled while running GW2 this may also be the source of the problem, if this hasnt been fixed yet I’m not sure.
Ps: Also make sure that your gpu is installed on the correct Pci-e slot and running at 16x and check your power settings just to eliminate the possibility of underclocking components
PS2: As for SSD make sure its hooked up in Sata 6gpbs port on your motherboard.

Well I fed my 6950@6970 and 4.6ghz Fx 8120 with a 20a(600w peak) psu he should be able to use 650ti with an apu if thats what you are suggesting kinda didnt read the whole posts ^^ at least he should try first imo I dont think would cause damage in anyway except it would power off in the worst case scenario.
Im saying its unfair to loosing servers dude and we dont like this either because as it’s we playing PVE pretty much…
Are you kittening serious? Match-up failure akittens best for the love of god? How are we supposed to enjoy the rest of the week Anet? How or the loosing servers even supposed to wanna put up a fight?
Well I used to use fx8120 @4,7ghz was dipping 10s with medium settings now Im running 3570k at 4.5ghz with Radeon 6950 modded to 6970shaders and speed I get 50-60any (locked frame) anywhere without too much action 45ish with moderate action(shatterer and that sort of things) and 20ish with zerg vs zerg these with Full settings without supersampling and Fxaa, with them I still dip to low 10s, However, with some culling and some lower settings I get low 30s high 20s with zerg vs zerg battles.
Ps: I still believe that Anet can optimize the engine so it can run zerg vs zerg ~40ish fps without hiccups but they have to put some efforts on it. Because the hardware we run the game on is more than enough to pull that off the coding isnt.
(edited by muslumgurseks.4951)
Well if you havent changed anything in your system, hardware or software wise, it’s not in your end. Check the forums regularly there is always some people who complains about frame drops after each patch… This is fixed with the next patch for some while it screws others’ experience. So you will have to wait for Anet to fix it in the next patch which will be 25th of June (major patch) if not fixed before. Therefore you posting your specs or temps etc will not change anything as long as system is working fine with other applications & games and not with Gw2. (These all assume that you have changed absolutely nothing in your system.)
Well for Gw2 I’d go with intel anyday saying this as former user of 8core FX user. Doesnt matter how much improvements 8350brings over bulldozer, they are basically the same architecture with same bottlenecks.
Just putting my two cents in it. 770 should suffice for that resolution for MMORPGs and should still be quite competitive for the other gpu hog game such as Crysis 3 BF3 and even BF4 which is around the corner. People have been using a single 680 for surround setups which means 50% more pixels than 2560×1600 with acceptable frame rates, which again might depend from person to person. I’d check reviews before I make a decision tho because its a significant amount of money to invest
780is basically cut down Titan so results should be more or less the same. If you have the budget wth just go for it man its the best and relatively most affordable single gpu solution. (But what there isTitan it’s is the best!!! -Yeah, no it costs 350dollars more )
P.s:And yeah you will still be limited by the CPU…
Am I the only one missing OP’s processor brand and model?
For Gw2 I doubt overclocking 2×7970 will give you much performance increase if you are running @1080p you will still have issues due to the cpu limitations. For Eyefinity it’s another story.
Also the part that I didnt understand you are looking to o/c the gpus or the cpu?
For cpu I use 45multiplier with level 2 LLC and 1.3v core voltage in bios and I’m cooling it with corsair h80i temps are running around 60-65c on low fan settings. These parameters might not apply to you since every silicon chip is unique. Also not all mobos drive the LLC the same way but should give you an idea. Also dont go beyond 4.1 with a stock cooler for 7/24 usage.
To measure stability you should download prime 95 / Intel Burn Test both are solid programs.
For Gpu you should download Msi Afterburner or Evga precision to play with gpu & memory clocks you can also change these through Amd’s Catalyst interface however those programs I recommended, provide you pretty useful monitoring tools.
To check stability use Kombustor which comes in the same package as msi afterburner observe the temps and artifacts.
In either case you should do these at your own risk, overclock sometimes is just pure luck some can get incredible results and others just fry their components so you should be very determinant and patient if you wanna overclock your system since it may take a very significant time to get where you want. Also dont just set the clocks you wanna get in just one single time go slowly take your time and do stability tests before moving to higher clocks.
Note: Also the sites given above must have guides both for your cpu and gpu you should read as much as you can before you start.
Have you tried with the compatibility & administrator mode?
Have you checked temps? I know girls are having way too much issues with it since their fallen hairs clog every single fan in the case lol. You mentioned that you are using the same mobo except one is x3 the other is x4 are you both running the same bios? I’d recommend you to run the latest ones. Also update the graphics drivers with the latest beta from Amd website. keep us update with the results so we can help further.
I think Heat isn’t the issue here coz I got a good fan… yet I don’t think also it’s my PSU but yet what is the recommended PSU in GW?.. gonna try buying other battery buying that is suitable for playing GW.
Well for what it’s worth I also think that it’s an overheating issue… the games you talked about are are able to half strain on your pc that GW2 can. First of all provide us your system specs: Cpu, Gpu, Mobo, Psu and CPU cooler and your temps along with it so we might help you further. Temps must be in-game like lets say pc shuts down in 10mins? Check temps at like 7-9mins so that they would be around as high as shutting down point.
(edited by muslumgurseks.4951)
your not providing system information or logs really shows how eager you are to get it solved.
clean the exhaust and repaste… laptops usually have cheap thermal compound. aftre these steps are done dont ever use your laptop on carpet/bed thats basically main source of dust blocking your exhaust. Besides 70C on gpu isnt much since they are probably being cooled by only one exhaust in other words they share the same heat dissipator. So as cpu temp goes up gpu goes up even though game doesnt stress gpu as much.
remove your hdd make a fresh windows installation to your SSD then backup the data on your HDD format it and restore your backed up files.
key here SSD should be the only drive hooked up to your motherboard during the installation. Formatting HDD is to get rid of the former unnecessary data.
Note 1#
Like i said before, first note.
Im in wvwvw atm, so obvious its unplayable again! FUN FUN FUNMore info later
is it just you or your guild mates are having issues aswell?
Get the K series of 3770 dont be cheap you will not regret when its time you wanna overclock it.. My room mate runs gtx 460 (asus version) on an 1st gen i7 and gw2 does not seem to be running that well on WvW but should be better with the newer i7.

hey guys I’m having a similar problem and It has been getting worse since January. I can’t even play the game for 5 mins without a crash and my systems is relatively new. Everything worked fine for the first two months (November and December) but now it’s just horrible. I also have windows 8. I’ve used recovery and restore and I’ve done a clean reinstall. I’ve checked my memory and everything. Windows update fails all the time and I usually get a BSOD and the errors include memory dmp but nothing is wrong with my memory.
currently running:
Windows 8
i5 3350P
EVGA GTX 680
2×4 GB
Corsair HX1050
500 GB HDD
Change the slots try that, also try if you have multiple dimms one by one. Dont test with mem test just run the game and stuff to see if that changes anything. Also mem crashes might be due to a faulty(as in out of box faulty not bad installation of it) bios make sure you are running the latest bios because some of the bios updates are for specifically for memories..
I’d do a diskcheck to make sure there arent any dislocated files that might cause this also tried repairing the game? might aswell help.
I also have the flickering portraits thingy but on a single GTX 690.
because thats also count as sli configuration ^^

Nuff said you don’t have a dedicated graphics card. And since you cannot ad a GPU to the laptop you will either will live with it or buy a new pc preferably a desktop.
Native to ubuntu or something stable in wine?

why not dual boot windows? Even if for a reason you need linux, its just not meant to run the games that are designed for windows. Yes they can run but come on be realistic they arent as half good as windows is able to run.
It is happening to thousands of people, Anet is still refusing to acknowledge the problem.
Pc crashing is one thing Game crashing is another… OP is having problems with his pc in general and his friend as far as I understand is suffering from game crash there is the confusion.
tried repairing?

My computer, which has a nividia gtx670 card, started to have these driver crashes recently. I stumbled upon this thread when looking for clues. It certainly sounds it could be related to the observations in this thread. That computer hasn’t been used to play any other games except GW2. And this started to happen around the time of the mentioned patch. The bad thing is, it seems that the card is now breaking down. There’s now artefacts appearing that shouldn’t be there and lowering settings will not stop drivers from crashing.
I’m going to RMA this card, and hopefully the same thing will not happen with a new one.
Rma takes time. I’d really make sure if the card is damaged for good before I RMA because if its not the card you will be sent exactly the same card but you will loose 1 week of your time. Try other games you can find them on the certain places if you dont wanna pay. Or try benchmarks.. Bios update might help. Also if you recently upgraded your GPU make sure its in the 16x slot in your motherboard. Try latest 3 drivers to see whether that makes any difference.
Also those artifacts might be due to overheating if the card is trying to boost itself on high temps for some odd reasons. Because it should only boost if there is a thermal headroom to prevent damage.
yeah you need to upgrade… thats the issue here. even high end machines are having hard time you wont be able to play with that machine decently. besides there should be a mac version why bootcamp windows? too many driver issues in my experience.
shame on you Dz eating our food in longview and kitten…
sounds like sneezy if it was early hours
since when sneezy is a charr guardian lol.. must have been stigolas
Well I’d really like to respond you but already got 2 warnings for pointing out how kittened GH’s actions are so imma stop and will say only this which will be deleted by mods in for like 5mins. Till Anet takes measures against blobing this is how it will go even though we are against it as guild we are being pushed to do so since its not fun to get constantly hit by train! But what are they doing pushing AC buffs and that kinda kittened things to make people wanna leave the game for good. nuff said I dont really care about what GH or any other world does they only get to taste their own medicine as long as we are concorned.

it’s the wrong pci-e slot on almost 7/10 of the new machines/upgrades
I’d suggest drop xsplit and try Open Broadcaster Software does everything xsplit does and its free on game capture also uses less resource
Are you even aware that we are loosing everything just because wvwvw has bugs everywhere atm and we crash everytime we get into Ruins of Surmia map garrison? We cant even move our forces to anywhere… Funny thing is enemy worlds are running around in golems without getting crashed.
This happens every one of our guild members so I’m pretty sure I’m not at fault my pc is fine and you guys better give an ETA for this piece of crap.
