I personally use an overclocked 3570k @4,5-4,6 for gaming rig and im not quite satisfied /w gw2 performance even @ higher res(4k) where the strain on the cpu is a lot lesser. Tried my GFs non overclocked fx8320 rig it’s running fairly same as my 3570k @4ghz at 1080p. TL/DR the game’s engine is kitten just stop spending more money to get better performance out of this game since whatever you do those severe FPS dips will be there when something exciting starts to happen on the screen..

Well cpu is the limitin factor as said above but it’s the way game handles things, not because your cpu is bad or not enough. Coding is just plain bull crap. Try tuning the culling settings it might increase the lowest fps. Other than that there isnt really too much for you to do to increase its performance.

there is your problem. Pci express speed should be x16 v2. Check your power settings/bios settings

He probably checked it when he was on IDLE on the desktop which is when the gpu is at power saving mode and shows pcie speed as 1.1 or whatever. I believe if he checks it while the game is on the screen it will show correctly.

I wouldn’t expect much either. I changed 3 cpus 4 gpus (6970, gtx 580 gtx 680 r9 290) still nothing has changed unless you count avegerage minimum fps going up from 15 to 20 in medicore blobs. still dips to 17ish medium high quality settings. I reckon unless you are going up to higher resolutions like let’s say 1440 or 1600p dont bother because gtx 580is more than capable of maxing gw2 out.

I couldn’t even understand what you are experiencing. Gw2 graphics options doesn’t need client restard afaik only some of them need map change to take effect if this is what you are asking but still no clue what your problem is with the game.

Cpu is what’s holding your performance back. But I wouldn’t recommend upgrading just for gw2 unless you are playing it 5+hours/day or doing hardcore WvW. It will get better at some point but I really doubt it’s happening before the console port happens if it ever happens. Because Anet has to fix the kittening Skill lag which keeps getting worse every day.

Don't make a new map! Solve the skill lags!

in WvW

Posted by: muslumgurseks.4951

muslumgurseks.4951

Are there different causes for lag server side? Can there be lag derived from map population (WvW or PvE) as well as lag from server population?

Strictly speaking the lag isn’t due to population per se, it is due to concentrated groups of players using skills on each other. The server calculates things every time a skill fires off and the more people it hits the more calculations it does. So if you get enough people fighting against one another, or even fighting with one another, you start to see server CPU problems.

So you basically say you(as a company) released a game with a broken feature which you used to market the game in every occasion. Not even mentioning the graphics engine related lags..

Help a bro out. Up until couple days ago I have been using a 6950 unlocked to 6970 but I wasnt happy with the overall performance since I changed to 1080p. So now I sold it online… And I found an Asus gtx 580 Matrix Platinum and its quite cheap and not been pushed. So if anyone of you Used a Gtx 580 and upgraded to never series what are your experiences? I’ll probably get 770 Lightning or Amd’s new cards around Xmas so Should I take this sweet deal? Or pass it on? If I am to buy a newer card today I can only afford gtx 660 non ti version which quite frankly I dont want to because I see people have been facing problems with 6xx series cards since release. Gw2 isnt the only game I play. I play pretty much every kinda game like Battlefield 3, Bioshock, Tomb Raider, Batman, World of Warcraft (occasionally), League of Legends and will be playing BF4/GTA V/ Watch Dogs when they released.

TL;DR>>>>So what do you think Matrix or a regular 660?

-I’ll overclock either cards
-It’s power consumption is not an issue
-I have SLI matrix capable psu
-Matrix wont heat like a reference 580

Hey there MrTheBigBadMeIlithis Mithilander illustrates his point very nicely. World of Warcraft, SWTOR are vastly different games and aren’t really the best for comparison. They’re essentially an entirely different “beast.” The FPS that you’re reporting getting sound about right, but you could try tweaking some of your Nvidia Control Panel settings to see if this will give you a slight boost in performance:

1. Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
2. Once opened, left-click on “3D settings” and select “Adjust image settings with preview.”
3. Select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider to “Performance.”
4. Select “Use the advanced 3D image settings” and left click on “Take me there.”

This should take you to the “Manage 3D Settings” window. Once here:

5. Change “Power Management mode” to “Prefer maximum performance.”
6. Change “Multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration” to “Single display performance mode.”
7. Change “Vertical Sync” to “Use the 3D application settings.”

Once completed, click “Apply” and start up Guild Wars 2.

Once loaded, access the “Graphic Options” window and make the following changes:

1. Change “Refresh Rate” to “60 Hz.”
2. Change “Frame Limiter” to “60.”
3. Change “Reflections” to “None.”
4. Change “Render Sampling” to “Supersample” then back to “Native.”
5. Enable “Vertical Sync” at the bottom.

Go ahead and give these settings a try. Hope this helps!

If you have spent 1/10 time on optimization/recoding the game instead spamming these useless things on the forums we would be playing the game flawlessly. Game is out for 11months for the love of god.

That usually falls on other people to do. Basically don’t blame the messenger (Ashley) when there are other people who presumably are more qualified to work on the base code. You can also blame management since they make the decisions and priorities.

However, if your ambiguous ‘you’ is directed at ArenaNet as a whole, then fire away! Pew! Pew!

I know that Ashley is not the person who is supposed to be fixing this piece of kitten. So yeah that ambiguous you was directed to the Anet. I just cant stand that they are spreading these useless stuff hoping they would fix their incompetence.

GW2 only uses 2 threads, so your best bet is just OCing your CPU as high as it will go. Although, a GPU upgrade could help if it’s being maxed out, but CPU is definitely more important.

Since the launch of GW2, I have used an old PC, running minimum graphics with around 30 fps. I’m getting really tired of that now, so I started to look for a cheap replacement. I found a PC costing $550 on Amazon, but since I don’t know too much about the technical stuff, I don’t know how well gw2 will run on it. I want to be able to run medium graphics at around 60 fps.

These are the specs of what I have in mind: the AAC-X4 Desktop Computer made by AA computers.

Summary
Processor: FX-Series Quad-Core FX-4100
RAM: 8 GB SDRAM DDR3
Hard Drive: 1000 GB
Graphics Coprocessor: ATI RadeonTM HD 3000
Wireless Type: 802.11bgn

Other Technical Details
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor Brand: AMD
Processor Count: 4
Computer Memory Type: DDR3 SDRAM
Hard Drive Interface: Serial ATA

Could anybody tell me if there will be aspects holding back the performance if I use this PC? Thanks in advance!

Dont even consider a 4100 Fx, and is that even a graphics card? Why dont you buy a custom pc?

Random Serious Frame Dips

Posted by: muslumgurseks.4951

muslumgurseks.4951

Most other games aren’t using the CPU as much. That’s why I’m suspecting the thermal throttling because it doesnt matter if you have a super computer or just 500$ one the dust problem is universal As I said monitor the temps to eliminate the throttling possibility also please provide system specs in your next post and whether or not you have changed any components lately or Operatin System even.

I experience huge FPS drops, from 60 FPS to 1-2 FPS, in battle where there are lot of explosion’s dust effects, like the one produced by a trebuchet hitting the ground. The FPS drop suddendly to 1-2 fps and, when the fog effect is gone, comes back to normal.
I think it’s an issue caused by the multiple particles used by the fog effect.

What settings are you playing the game at?

muslumgurseks.4951

All games you guys have been stating are different games.. they use gpu and kitten when you are comparing this game to any other make sure they are mmo’s for the love of god it’s 2013 know the difference.

Let me compare other mmorpgs I play. DC Universe Online runs at constant 30fps because that is where they lock it. Neverwinter online runs at 60 fps except for Protectors Enclave which the developers are working on. Dragon’s Prophet I have everything cranked up and runs at 60 fps. So lets go to 2013. Bioshock, Tomb Raider run as 60 fps everything cranked. Older games that have better graphics than GW2 Skyrim 60 fps, and Far Cry 3 54 to 60 fps, and Assassin’s Creed 3 at constant 60 fps on my system. To go back further Crysis 2, Arkham City, Deus Ex: Human Evolution, and civilization V(which does take hefty hardware to run max) all are at 60 fps maxed out. The Witcher 2 everything but Ubersampling are on and it runs at constant 60fps. I don’t know if you work for Arenanet and are trying to make players shut up about an issue high end systems are facing, or if your just a troll. Either way you are a kitten bag and maybe you should join 2013. If you have a low end system then of course it’ll run the game smoothly for you, but those of us who have money and are willing to build a high end machine are disappointed.

Would I be working for Anet and kitten on their coding in every single occasion? your computer is a desktop where the OP’s machine is a laptop and if you knew anything about them they are weaker than desktops in every possible ways. You own a quite good system which doesnt mean its the best and yes everyone else is expecting better results and they are right this is what I have been saying since the BWE’s Game’s coding is kitten it doesnt even use GPU without FXAA+Supersample & High Res Textures.

Besides all the games that OP was comparing to the GW2 was GPU bound games not CPU and most of the games that you mentioned are also GPU bound ones or not even close to Gw2 looking MMOs.

As I suggested earlier on the other thread go for Gtx780 instead of Titan same gpu but 350$ cheaper or go for 7990 if you dont mind possibility of Crossfire bugs/drivers. 7990 is better than both titan and 780 since its dual gpu. Your mobo will not cause any problems
Just putting the same link i put on the other thread for you to compare it.. (Pci-e 2.0 @16x equals to Pci-e 3.0 @8x) so it should be fine as long its not as low as 4xbandwidth

Non K version intels can be overclocked aswell Im not telling you or guiding how but its possible to set clocks as high as 4ghz. Also Are you sure that your gpu is installed on the correct Pci-e slot? Also have you tried to disable SLI mode and run the game only one gpu enabled? Are you certain that you arent bound by any power limitations in windows power settings? (Performance/Balanced/Power Saving modes) Set it atleast to balanced.

Well if you dont mind the SLi/CFX compatibility issues go for 7990 it performs better than titan since its basically 2×7970 however if you want to go for a single gpu go with Gtx780 because its basically Titan with cut down memory and bandwidth if im not mistake but the gpu itself is basically the same. And your case is big enough to fit a truck in it so no worries about that.

For the board I dont think your mobo will bottleneck the pci-e 3.0 cards eventhough the are dual gpus like 7990. (Pci-e 2.0 16x is equals to Pci-e 3.0 x8 slot in terms of bandwidth)

this is merely a similar bandwidth comparison for the former dual gpu solution of the red team.

FPS drops every 10 seconds

Well, tomorrow I have a tech guy coming around to “fix” my PC. By that I mean temp diagnostics, cleaning etc. I would do that myself but um… my rig is too heavy to shift. After that, I’m going to run CPU-Z and see what the outcome is.

I have been in contact with NCSoft and Anet and they have said that, although my temperatures are still OK, the GPU ones are causing a concern as they are above what they should be given that I’m cooling on air with no GPU o/c.

Now… a question to you gurus, if I may. My mobo is an Asus P6X58D-E ( http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6X58DE/ )

My GPU is an ATi Radeon 5970.

Yes, I know both of those are a couple/few of generations out-of-date. I also have an i7 980x o/c’d from 3.33 to 4ghz.

The questions therefore becomes: could I fit an Radeon 7970 to that board and, if I did, could I expect a significant increase in FPS?

Many thanks.

PS

My CPU cooler is this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-CNPS9500A-LED-Heatsink-Fan/dp/B001FW3GS0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373320299&sr=8-1&keywords=zalman+cnps9500a

You can have better performance overall but you will still be bound by the CPU due to the coding of the game. a 7970 will fit in (pci-e 3.0 doesnt mean that you cannot run it on a pci-e 2.0 slot) but beware 7970 is an enormous card make sure it will fit in your CASE and your PSU is able to feed it.

As for the Cooler its not the best in the market but if it keeps your cpu under 80C while gaming then its ok.

HD 7970 or GTX 770?

760 is the replacement for 660ti basically same gpu with higher bandwidth if I’m not mistaken. and 760(ti) for that reason is not going to be released because whole line is the revisioned 6xx series. (except 780 its cut titan)

As for OP’s question from what I have seen 7970 is better than 680 so is 770 I dont think there is so much difference between them apart from price. You could go with either cards but if you are into recording stuff nvidia is releasing something called nVidia Shadow Play which will use kepler’s h.264 hardware to record games without causing fps loss. It should have been released 25th of June but still no news regarding that. You might wanna take that into account.

This also causes me to force restart goes to temps of 101 and 102 and this is just me testing in character select. I’m wondering why because skyrim, dota 2 etc. dont do this to me… Are there any tips to fix this? IM on the settings appropriate for my card. I think fan speed increasing will help me stop this but what program? Im currently trying evgma

Im a launch player btw always played ultra no problems support u can check I logged in on day 1 even though that character doesnt exist

Try fps limiters. Like 60/30 in the video settings. If this isnt happening in other games I wouldnt recommend anything other than this. Simply force v-sync on gw2 if the in-game frame limiter doesnt solve this.

FPS drops every 10 seconds

Hi
Since the recent patch (not the one that brought the JP, the Aetherblade Retreat patch) I have this problem, wherever I go, if I see someone (even really small grupos) my FPS drop from 30/40+ to 7 or less. Idk wh this is appening, I’ve tried cleaning old junk I have, run the game in Best performance graphics and nothing works. i’m not a expert with computer so I really need help here. Just before I posted this I’ve tried to do the Aetherblade Retreat dgn and this happened every 10 seconds or even less

If someone can help me please do it

Please provide a system spec or a game advisor log along with your CPU & GPU temps under load (atleast after 15mins of game play and 15mins of idle )

You might be suffering from overheating issues… Fps drops in specific intervals sounds to me like thermal throttling.

Have you tried to change your drivers to I dont know the latest betas, whqls? Or even older drivers can solve these sort of problems. Just make sure you delete every related graphics driver before you install new ones. (Driver Sweeper should help you with that)

Those could be due to the faulty sensors that much of a drop could do further failures not graphical artifacts I believe besides OPs computer runs other games without a problem as I understood from what I read (just read a little tho). Checking with another psu should prove whether or not your PSU is doomed or not but dont do that on your own if you dont have enough knowledge you can damage your other components.

For the lulz Can I get your PSU brand/model and how long have you been using it?

You mean that i give possibility to memory to run a Maximun of 950MHz an it uses what’s necessary? I thought it was a constat paramater! My bad

Thank you.

In theory yeah on full load it would run at constant 950mhz but when it clocks down as @tota previously said it doesnt need that much of a horse power to do so. And those spikes might be caused by the frame drops I mentioned earlier. Since the release I have invested quite a lot of time to monitor Gpu and Cpu behaviors since I have played this game 4 different systems since the Beta weekends (Still havent got to the performance level I’m after) And all behave the same way… As FPS drops Both Gpu & Cpu utilizations drop. So I really doubt that there is anything wrong/faulty in your end and you should wait for Anet to implement performance patches if they will ever deliver.

it does fluctuate ofc but its nothing to worry about its the game engine being a kitten. When your fps goes down your cpu and gpu loads are going down aswell. Cheers Anet great coding.

CPU AMD or Intel

Yes they are using the same sockets and sockets are backwards compatible… This may seem to be making sense in the theory however have you ever tried to use 8core fx on 870/890 mother board? and like overclock them? If you havent ill tell you dont even try it You will probably ram the board if not cpu along Unlike Intel Amd seems to be increasing the Tdp on their cpus and this causes damage or exploding VRMs on most boards when overclocked. So even if you bought an FX processor Id say dont even think of 8320 get 8350. You will experience less issues with overclocking beyond 4ghz (since 8350 is 4ghz out of box) and 8350 will overclock with lover voltages so the heat you will dissepate will be significantly less (+4500mhz)

Also people seem to be thinking Amd is cheaper and hey lets buy it (thats what I thought when I bought mine) without paying attention to the costs of electricity and after market coolers. A 3570k /3770k overclocks to 4.2 with stock cooler and stays quite away from throttling point while amd ones sweats like pigs (Amd board VRMs are also heating like kitten since it draws 400w ish power for an overclocked cpu while intel is just drawing half of it.)

All in all general conssensus has some points while they recommend intel.

Overclocking in all situations does come with its share of concerns, but yeah, trying to OC a high-end AMD processor on a weak motherboard with no VRM cooling of any kind is probably not something one should do, and I’m certain the same could be said about a high-end Intel processor too.

However, if you don’t OC, then generally, you won’t have to worry about such issues.

As for power draw, I have no comment, but this is also something to consider in a processor purchase.

890fx boards are the best ones you could get in that time and supposedly support the FX 8cores but explodes on overclock thats what I was trying to say. Not cheap kitten boards without VRMs I even seen an Asus Crosshair IV formula that cant past 4ghz on 8120 with bios updates and everything. For power draw even if the electricty bill isnt a concern for you the heat output its linked with must be since you will invest more $ to keep things under control

if its in the slot which is closest to the CPU its the correct one (nevermind the short pci-e slots they dont count :O)
