You kittens don’t even know what the prefix “meta” means.
I would suggest a dark towel.
tee hee.
- turrets scale with toughness/vitality of owner
dreeeaaaaam, dream dream dreeamm, dreeeeeeaaaam.
but .. yes please!
yes they are.
Judging the last month’s worth of sour grapes, I’d say it’s been “that time of the month” around here since March 26th.
I see what you did there
always bring a towel.
(( did I go to far on that one? /snicker ))
FT is no more a melee weapon than a shot gun would be. It is a short range weapon.
GW2 WikiFlamethrower replaces the engineer’s standard weapon skills with five different skills, focusing on light damage, short range and area effects.
Jon PetersNo, they don’t have a minimum distance – but he is not the sturdiest profession. He is not a Warrior! And so he tries to stay away, and he has a lot of stuff on his pistol and rifle that tends to let him do this. So the pistol for instance has a glue shot that he can shoot down at the ground that sticks guys he tries to get away from. The rifle has an overcharge shot, where he launches the enemy back and pushes himself back at the same time to give himself distance.
But then on top of that, if you really want to be a “in your face!!!11”-Engineer, the flamethrower is pretty much the goto weapon for you.

Air Blast is really more like “vent heat” which explains why it repels projectiles, prolongs burning, and knocks things back in a radial effect.
It is a very useful and powerful ability.
Yes, the old Backdraft was cool, and fun to use, but this isn’t Luigi’s Mansion. A flamethrower is not a vacuum. Knock your foe down, set them on fire. Burn them. Pour fire on them. How was a blanket pull (which was really not much more than a “trip”) more appropriate for a projectile weapon?
You are aware that a jet stream of fire is a projectile right? and that you can MOVE while using the FT, right? and that you can MOVE towards your foe when you Air Blast, right? and that you can KEEP your foe perpetually OUT of melee range while still setting them on fire, right? all the while staying within the 425 range of FT#1, right?
in fact, the POINT is to keep your foe OUT of melee range.
the burn on 4 is almost meaningless.
no more “meaningless” than the burn on FT#1 tick 10. could it use more, sure, but all burn is good burn, since burn does not stack intensity.
Frankly, i think that if Anet simply dropped burning to the bottom of the cleansing order, it would alleviate this misconception that adding seconds of burning is meaningless because it would be more difficult to “stop, drop, and roll” … so to speak.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
why are you so hung up on this designation of “adventurer”? and where in the description of adventurer does it say “adventurers are meant to do burst dps”?
engies have condi burst. rogues have backstab burst. rangers have … to be honest, i have no idea what rangers have, but their kitten traps make me >.<!
maybe I should have set in bold the part in Anet’s definition of the adventurer that says the professions have ties OUTSIDE of warfare?
It seems to me like you want engies to be able to everything all at once without having to specialize in anything.
Good news for you … we can … and when we specialize our traits, we get better.
FT#4 creates a burning wall that you can use to force your enemies to pass through. it also combo fields your projectiles into flaming projectiles that burn foes.
you can use FT#3 to force foes through it, then shoot them through it for more burning. You can run back and forth through it when a melee is on your kitten and make them hate you.
It is not useless.
That said, (and, contrary to our usual debates), google sums up the QoL fixes that would make the FT that much better.
What would be nice to see if #5 being turned into a smoke field and adding Damage Over Time to #4 besides the burning. also, if possible make #2 a blast finisher.
is he your friend?
will you have fun playing with him?
if the cheaterboards are irrelevant, who cares?
go play!
while we’re at it, let’s talk turrets…
you can’t CC them, you can’t predict their attack patterns, and you can’t ignore them either. Then, when you actually focus on the turrets for the few seconds it takes to kill them, the freaking engineer is up your kitten with some probe or enema that causes you to bleed for days and slap yourself in the forehead.
way OP.
srsly, anet, fix this.
Judging the last month’s worth of sour grapes, I’d say it’s been “that time of the month” around here since March 26th.
Actually, I worked (read: volunteered for game time) for the OLTC program writing content in AO, and I had a 220 engie. I also wrote and sold in game pet scripts to make them talk and respond to the engie.
^_^ kitten I loved AO. Still my favorite MMO to date.
My agent, Chris “Nakoda” Ardman was manager of Baboon’s on RK1 for year while the Dave “Diamondcut” Duster smuggling ring was in operation. I helped promote the underground radio station, and bookied money to Rebel/Omni converts who changed factions. It was great times.

once CA are launched, Anet ought to edit hotjoin to be 10 player, call it “soloQ” and restrict tourney mode to full teams of 5.
Benn E says bene to your videos. molto ben fatto.
charge to:
- add reserved slots
- put up a custom MOTD with external links and whatnot
- have a server specific leader board
- have access to more game modes
- prizes for player organized tournaments
- “guild swag” that servers can sell to fund the ongoing use of other paid options
- pvp-related Black Lion store items (more finishers, custom weapon skins, etc)
do not charge to:
- play your subscription free game
Anet has NUMEROUS ways to make money off of PvP without charging people for something they already have.
I firmly believe that Anet never actually discusses things at meetings, teams just go ahead and do things and then justify themselves later at meetings.
what really blows my mind is that competitive games have existed in some form since … civilization showed up.
why is it, more than seven thousand years later, a multi million dollar software engineering firm cannot manage to calculate a simple tournament scoring system?
if you REALLY need help, go to a pee wee hockey league and ask one of the six year old players how scoring works, they’ll tell you all about it.
the leaderboard has nothing to do with success, it is a measuring stick that shows how many hours someone puts in a day playing with a regular team.
if you hold a point all map and no one contests it, i do not think that you were useless. you were doing exactly what you were supposed to be doing, and were one of the most useful people on the team.
personal points != usefulness.
all that matters is win vs lose. technically, you capping the point and holding it for 4 minutes is ~100 points (I think? one pt per 2 seconds for a node, + 10 for capping it?), which equates to 20% of your team’s victory. On a 5 man team .. that is .. perfect.
I have lasted upwards of 2 minutes against multiple opponents simply by controlling, misdirecting, and evading them. I am not doing much damage to them while doing this, but if 2-3 of yoru foes are focused on you, … and not accomplishing anything for their efforts …, that is time wasted for them, and time gained for your team to handle other matters.
In 1v1 defenses, I rarely ever die. Rogues last less than 30 seconds … assuming they don’t run after 15 seconds. Rangers, Necros, and Messies are the threats.
Ele are only dangerous if they catch you off guard and get off their burst rotation, but that is rare and far between, especially with protective shield and protection injection.
when I spec for turrets, I always take Metal plating.
10/30/10/20/0 is the most "power"ful FT/turret build. (incendiary powder).
but, i typically follow
0/30/20/20/0 for a strong defensive turret build, and then run two turrets, rocket (for knock down) and net (for the net toolbelt as much as for the turret itself).
locking down an opponent neutralizes their damage output, and makes them go n the defensive…most dps classes that you lock down are not defensive classes, so the DPS:Defense ratio tends to stay stable.
Unfortunately, I never used turrets in PvE because I found the FT and the Rifle and just rushed to 80 andthen started slamming myself against a wall in spvp until I hammered out the build i have now.
I wish I could trade in all the fractals i did on my warrior before rolling engie so that I had reasonable pve gear, but i don’t, and i frankly do not care to go and farm it any more.
edit: P.S. in PvE for trash farming like the video demonstrates, I would be more apt to take the Thumper Turret over Net Turret and swap out Sitting Duck/Knee Shot for Precise Sights.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
i’d love to make a video, but as I have posted many times, my 6 year old e8400 system can’t handle the workload of writing video while playing at the same time.
this will change soon.
could you please elaborate on what you mean by contradictory? from what I can tell in my guide there is good discussion and feedback from several players.
there are also dozens of threads on the FT with information in them.
not sure what you are getting at, because the “meaningfulness” isn’t up to me, it is up to you and what you take away from it.
telling me that my video-less guide is meaningless is like telling BradyGames that every one of their publications is meaningless.
the guides and posts i’ve made include gameplay advice, combo suggestions, “mindset” tips, even class specific advice. what is it, other than a video, that might make it more meaningful to you?
i miss dark age of camelot.

GW2 WikiAdventurer is a category for the three medium armor professions. They specialize in use of precise weapons such as bows and firearms, and in most cases would belong to traditional midline roles in combat. Lore-wise they possess arts developed over centuries since the original Guild Wars, and are perhaps the most “modern” category of professions, capable of using firearms as weapons. They also have ties to practices outside of warfare, namely technology and espionage.
keywords set in bold is “most” as well as “midline combat”.
Not all classes/professions in every game are meant for burst DPS. The engineer may not be meant for burst damage. Perhaps you want every class to have burst because of the lack of trinity in this game, and so somehow that means every class needs to be the same?
so far, outside of the 100nades and SD debacles and the current HGH condition burst, it appears to me that the engineer is more of a “tankier” adventurer. for those who still need a trinity, we have rogues (high burst) rangers (sustained range dps) and engineers (mid level dps with long survivability). Then, within each of these professions are subsets of different types of builds suited for different roles/situations. Now, I am not an anet dev, but this is one possible reason for the lack of “burst” dps in our profession.
that said, I have found the engineer to be very capable at staying both out of dangerous melee range as well as maintaining pressure on ranged classes by various means of control/lockdown, and I can use these strengths with the same mindset of a tank which I have become accustomed to over the last 13 years of mmo play.
I think the “anchor” misnomer redirects attention from the fact that a tank, in essence, is just “damage mitigation.” If you are able to lockdown your opponent and prevent them from doing damage, that is “tanking” whether or not you have aggro.

i do.
and what exactly does the FT do with traits that it does without?
6 stacks of might and 15% damage.
edit: almost forgot the 200 toughness!
What damage “type,” exactly, do the traits add, that make the FT so different from other weapons in other professions?
for that matter, what damage type do any of the engie traits “add” that are not already build in to the weapons and kits we use?
Poison, maybe? on a trait no one uses? nooo, we have Poison Volley.
I’ve mentioned numerous times that i’d like to see more burning out of FT#1, I can link you the posts if you like, or, if you are ambitious, you can peruse my highly rated posts.
everything is in there.
edit: furthermore, the FT already does burning damage. Incendiary Powder is not just for the FT. You want FT#2 to add burning? Use Incendiary Ammo before firing it. Hell, Poison Volley can add burning if you use Incendiary Ammo.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
Boo. I appreciate them sharing their knowledge rather than keeping it to themselves in order to be gods amongst men.
I am well aware of how the FT functions. I wrote one of the guides to it and havebeen fighting for the FT on these forums for months.
I am shocked that a weapon in this game needs to be traited for maximum efficiency. Just shocked. You’ve opened my eyes!
And here I was running around hording my 70 trait points in case some new content came out.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
I am not in the least bit surprised.
Your propensity for getting in to trouble is one more reason bookah do not need to be allowed in to our hallowed halls of academia. what a sullied thought.
I am not your “buddy,” guy.
my complaint is not about greed but about what I believe to be flat out wrong.
as the above said, bandwidth and storage are not an issue. they haven’t been for almost ten years.
Anet should be charging for other things than simply creating a custom match.
are you saying my build is cookie cutter? how many months of arguing did it take to even get a few people to agree that the FT is viable.
i’ve also been a proponent for a ptr.
edit: furthermore, the trend of my posts has been to rail against people who preach 100nades/HGH as the only way to play.
not sure what you guys are trying to imply here.
also, if you need to attack me and my not arguments, you are a waste of bandwidth.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
reflect on flame wall is a bit much, since it already adds burning to projectiles and to idiots who walk through it.
The world is ours, and it will be in the future.
There is nothing out of character with claiming prominence in a field which one arrives late only to improve upon it with one’s mere presence
Try actually visiting Metrica sometime and you might learn something about us.
Until then, enjoy your inefficient mouth breathing while you can.
please quote me once trying to get engies nerfed and I will let your pointless perjury pass.
it is a knockback that doesn’t stun or daze or disable you as well.
why kitten about it?
or sell gems for glory, perhaps.
but I still earnestly believe that this is the wrong things to charge for.
pay for custom motd, more (or fewer?) player slots, game modes (ya, I likely would pay a one time fee to add a ctf to my server).
plus, one time fees as a concept is far more palpable than recurring “time charges”.
this business model is as archaic and draconian as cell phone contracts from the 90s and early 2ks.
you already bought the game, and abet already made millions of dollars
you want continued development? how about providing a working product from day one and then releasing xpacs for smaller fees.
ya, cuz this fantasy game needs more realistic ballistic models for attacking…
dragons, monsters, talking trees, egotistical rats, freakishly tall dwarves, surprisingly non-self-sufficient cats, and a population of the most effeminate metrosexual humans in gaming history.
that’d jive well with the magic and fantasy.
Apples are less acidic than oranges, so let’s buff apples to be more acidic too.
I am positive anet announced that gems would be a reward for winning tournaments months ago in a video they released. Can we get a response on what happened to this?
im positive anet said ages ago in a video that this game was going to be an esport too, but….
ooooops!
no, im mad because people proselytize as though mix/maxing is the only viable way of playing this game, giving new players the wrong impression, stifling creativity, and generally degrading the quality of the discussion about legitimate issues.
I would go so far as to say that the engineer forum in gw2 is the worst for this sort of hegemonic belligerence in any mmo I’ve ever played.
the massively-multi part of these games should indicate to you that there are multiple WAYS of playing.
let’s take a console example:
Bethesda sandbox games. You don’t see people telling others on those forums that “omg yrou sneaky spec in fall out three doesn’t do NEARLY enough dps compared to my rocket launcher spec” … BECAUSE THE GAME REWARDS DIVERSITY.
You don’t see people on ubisoft forums telling others “ZOMG YOU DIDNT sneak around in every level in splinter cell, you didn’t play the game right!” … no because it doesn’t kittening matter.
did the person finish the game? check. how thjey played worked.
same thing here. Did the OP fail? no. So he succeeded, and is thus viable.
stop hate mongering against people who play differently than you do.
and i never had a problem after launch fighting regular mobs with my engineer.
so…wtf?
i DO agree that ANet are less than optimal developers, no PTR is a huge problem, and i DO agree about the favoritism or bugs like scope wouldnt go 8 months without a second thought,
but stop exaggerating, for the sake of everyone …including new players… about how much engie sucks.
engie does not suck.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
Pride and ego is out of character for your “Asura buddies”?
Then I would hardly call them Asura. Probably degenerates that dropped out of College to go and earn money in Lion’s Arch selling flowers.
If you ever called me “buddy” in person, I would have my VAL-A disentangle your dietary tract by pulling it out your rectum and feeding it back through your mouth so that you never had to eat again and thus stopped wasting precious resources for the rest of us. I would then mount your efficiently redesigned corpus in my lab for an eternity of bemused observation.
… Bookahs…never learn.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
yep, and charging a fee to play a part of the game using a currency that players don’t earn while playing that part of the game is DEFINITELY a way to pump juice back in to the Frankenstein that is spvp.
or not.
this is why gem inflation goes unchecked. ANet barely shows they are developers, they are certainly not economists.
/facepalm
poor Governator, got thrown in to the campiest script ever for one of DC’s most tragic villains.
blame the writers for that one, not the actor.
ummmmmm
pve is all about farming gold and making money. if you cannot handle this, don’t play.
the point of pve is to farm for gold and gear, so if you are not succeeding at this, l2p.
go in to every other forum and find threads about how so and so had multiple sets of gear in their bags for different situations. THIS IS INTENDED.
You want more inventory space? BUY IT. that is what those gems are for and that is how you keep funding new content for your precious kitten vs environment play.
look, im getting pretty fed up with peoples kitten attitudes.
VIABLE MEANS DOES NOT FAIL.
All that video demonstrates is that you can have fun with coordinated efforts using any kit other than just grenades.
He did not fail in that regard, he demonstrated a particularly effective FT/Rifle combo for farming trash. You can apply these tactics to .. oh I dont know .. dungeons .. CS .. whatever .. you know, the mother kittening game you all play?
at least, i assume you actually play, the more i read these forums the less I expect half the people here actually ever log in long enough to do more than read their trait sheet and log out.
The responses to this thread are exactly why this forum is full of so much aggression .. why not kittening compliment the guy for doing something different and showing that you CAN be different without losing.
If you can’t contribute, or at least have a community oriented attitude, what the kitten are you doing playing mmos in the first place?
go play socom or call of duty or lol or dota, seriously, kitten off and play something else, no one is forcing you to be here but YOU.
actually my point was that turrets lacking mobility wasn’t an issue in a place where turrets are clearly designed to HOLD something.
why would you use turrets in a fast paced dungeon? spec nades.
why would you use turrets in wuvwuv roaming? that’s just stupid.
Gear up and spec according to your needs. This game does not punish you for changing specs like others used to. That is intentional so that you can change things.
I don’t use turrets in wuvwuv, I use Elixir S and Rocket Boots with my FT, and gear for pow and crit rather than tough and crit like i do is spvp.
maybe you should try actually playing THE GAME and stop pretending like reading the forums gives you any relevant experience or knowledge of how the game works.
hint: forums are for sharing experience .. not gaining it.
let me summarize people’s complaints for you …
THE SKY IS FALLING! the sky is falling! OMG the SKY IS fallING!
(edited by nakoda.4213)
I know majority of the players are into PVP , now i’ve nothing against those players i have nothing but repsect for you .
Now i know part of the cartography leads you into the PVP areas , but please can there be a safer way (not bow or wave at another player) like having a white flag on your back that over looks your head so it’s easily seen, for the small amount of players like myself who are not that interested in the PVP side, who can still get thier cartography and charm pets etc.
All my characters in Guild wars 1 are PVE , a player has the choice in the character creation screen to be a PVP character or PVE before you choose your profession which was awesome for me, if i wanted to try PVP i could do at some point later on in the game
I have given a couple of suggestions forward in this post , so that the staff at GW2 could consider for future reference (maybe ) lol
For all the kittens like this one, I suggest going here. You may enjoy yourself more.
PvP is player vs player. if you do not want to play against players, do not go in to the areas where players will want to kill you.
Sometes friendly advice is just friendly advice, Phelan, even if steeped in internet vitriol, it’s not a personal attack, bub.
What you are witnessing is population increase and interest in something more involved than playing the current “meta” as people like to call it (I just call it “the game”).
Crispeh, as usual, is easier to understand than I am, I suppose
;)
well, to be fair, learning to use keybinds and not clicking with your mouse isn’t so much an L2P advice as it is a QoL advice.
you will do so much more so much faster by clicking your keyboard than physically transversing your screen with your mouse.
watching mouse clickers play is painful.
