Agreed. These should work like the other activities or GW1"s lucky title: You can only work on the achievement during the festival, but progress is cumulative.
Even if the activity clearly marked when u are supposed to press the key, your client’s lag still affects your success too. The activity is very punishing.
I also think the hard songs are easier, because you regain health on successes and a couple of successes can cancel out a few misses.
What OP is talking about.
Snowball mayhem: Requires 150 games. At 10 minutes/ game, takes 25 hour to finish.
Toypacalypse: Require 150 successes. At about 40 minutes for 10 successes, this achiement takes 10 hours to complete
Bell Choir: Requires 210 successes. This activity is easy to fail when laggy, and takes time to master. Still, at 5 possible successes in 10 minutes, takes 7 hours to complete.
Winter’s Wonderland: Requires 75 successes. Depends on skill I guess, but I note that the puzzle has a lot of artificial “wait for other players” delays. It’s buggy this year with fall damage and the “somebody has to die so the gifts reset” bug returns. I estimate it will take me 9 hours to finish.
In sum: 51 hours to max achievement on activities that are rehashes from last year, and get tediously boring after say, a dozen, hours.
Then sell while they still have value
The salvage tools are nice. Not only do they count as orichalum tools and give snowflakes on use, but you can leave then in their container which stacks 250 and only takes one bank/inventory slot.
(edited by nekretaal.6485)
I finished the meta this Am. Bells were the worst part, any kind of lag makes that minigame really tough.
Repeatable Bell achieve requires 210 completions, so at least I got some progress in.
This is horrible.
1. gifts stay “half popped” until somebody goes and dies
2. The candy cane path after the blowing snowman triggers fall damage
3. You jump into snowflakes until the path is gone because somebody is ahead of you
4. Save spot is gone.
5. Achievement takes 75 successes. (waaay too much, but better than 150 games of snowball mayhem).
I hope that the puzzle is less crowded in a few days.
You don’t even have to build them in the center.
Just build them where the scrap drops (but outside of monster AoE range of other siege).
Cataputs have well over 50% map range and hit in AoE is don’t worry about precise placement, mobs tend to run from siege to siege in big clumps, so having the catapults spread out everywhere will slow the mobs from zigzag pathing.
This is very annoying.
I just finished my Ambrite Collection last night.
Here’s what I did.
1. I totally ignored Dry top for months, but farmed the Magumma Wastes PvP reward track when I did SPvp.
The track gives you more than enough geodes for a weapon, and gives you a fossil at the end. Plus, you get a ton of Zephirite lock picks, which become more geodes and fossils when you open them.
2. I jumped into Dry top at 35-38 minutes after the hour. If I did not land in a T4, I used lfg to get into a T4. After 35 minutes, Dry top is basically almost done.
3. I farmed Geodes in the sandstorm. There are two major sources of Geodes. First the events, and second the silky Sand, which gives you a Geode every hundred. As for the Silky Sand, put on some magic find food and sharpening stones. They help!
Doing the events nowadays, no Dry Top ever hits T5 or T6, so you will need to join a special guild or you will need 425 Geodes per weapon. However, the advantage of doing things nowadays is that players in dry top are more interested in loot than geodes, and it is easier to tag events.
4. Here is the route I used starting at 0:40. All events you tag and leave as soon as you see other players. Some of the events you tag are bosses where you don’t get the champ bag, because you are after Geodes, not champ bags.
Dust mites – Haze – Skritt Burglar (if he’s not nearby ignore) – Explosives (you are probably too late) – Skritt.
Devourer Queen — After Queen you can tag Notchli if people do that but usually tey don’t. After defeating the queen you have about a minute to look for chests. But you must be on top of the dust mites when they spawn. Be on time.
Dust mites — Twister — Haze — Explosives — Skritt — Chickenado. Usually there are 3 minutes left when you’ve done this so check if people are doing Eway or the Rat queen, or just look for more chests.
This Route’s usually good for 100 Geodes from events in a T4 sandstorm, Plus more Geodes if you are lucky with things like the Skritt burglar and are in a zone where players actually do the rat queen. Plus more Geodes from Zephrite keys and From Silky Sand.

Why do you want two?
Just make one and use the wardrobe to skin any other sword into a second infinite light.
More badges… I don’t know what to say besides that nobody really needs them. In EotM you get like 250 per hour.
Unless Anet WvW reward tracks you could unlock with badges, or something similar to badges unique armors, there is no need for more badges.
There actually are badge unique armors, the problem is that they are super cheap…
Thank you! The people who scream no AoE in chat really are hurting things, as are the people refusing to move from the ledge.
And the people who stand on the ledge doing weak auto attacks are why the boss fails.

A tonic collection is a great idea.
A SOVEREIGN Weapons collection seems assured.
A Wintersday toy collection is probably coming in a few days, or should.
There is no achievement for Destroyer/Primordus weapons, that’s probably coming.
A Lyssa collection should include all of the “phantasm” weapons (basically all of the maroon glowy weapons like Illusion or Vision of the mists). If “Chaos of Lyssa” is reintroduced as a drop, then the collection should include this. If it is not, then it should be the reward for finishing the collection.
There are enough “scary” weapons to fill out a Halloween themed set.
Hint Hint Hint….
Watchwork Sprokets and keepers armor recipes haven’t dropped regularly for 8 months now. Maybe they could return in a living story.
Also a lot of people would love to get a second chance at Sproket Recipes like Perplexity runes, which haven’t been purchasable since August 2013.

Got stuck in a hot join yesterday that was already 5v5. What is this kitten?
Nothing to do but sit through another 2 loading screens just to get into a game. Thats the point.
I would be ok with a mystic coin nerf.
They were an interesting reward, that GW2 never explored or did anything with. The things you can do with mystic coins today are the same things as launch.
As for the laurel nerf, I think we’re getting a laurel nerf because in that one screenshot, the players have to choose between laurels and other rewards. (not all players will choose laurels).
Anet please bring back the TP forum.
Anet, can we pleeeease have the Trading Forum back??
As for inflation, it’s complicated. Patches affect gold income but also affect demand. Precursor prices are stable, due to their unafforability, and inflation isn’t just measured by precursors.
I see no threads here about the changes to Hotjoin, but I see plenty of threads here about matchmaking with inexperienced players & lower queue times…
The changes to Hotjoin can explain what’s happening to your team queues.
First, the play it now button is gone once the player enters a match. That means that no longer can players quickly ‘cycle’ matches to find one they want to play. If they want to leave the match they have to the lobby (and load screen) first. (the exception is that the custom list is still up).
Second, when games end, players are dumped back into the lobby (and have to wait for a load screen). This means no trying to play games with your teammates from the last match.
So the pick up and play casual nature of Hotjoin is gone, with players constantly getting dumped into the lobby. Arguably these changes are good, removing the exploit free win cheese that was ruining Hotjoin.
But the state of Hotjoin today is not good. You enter, get dumped into the outnumbered side of a mismatch down hundreds of points, and your only choices are to lose or go through loading screen hell. Not to mention that spectate mode (more pointless than ever) is still around and sometimes entire teams will swap sides in pursuit of more glory and free wins.
I think a lot of hotjoiners moved to the arenas because the casual format became less so.
No way there are tens of thousands of that recipe still in players hands.
That recipe only dropped from one living story instance 20 months ago. The dungeon reward was once per day per character and took almost an hour (this dungeon was split into two entire fractals, with the lengthy unskippable escort part removed).
The recipe was a booby prize for players who didnt get the mini, monocle, or tonic recipe. Most players who got one used it as a consumable.
The food wasn’t desirable, and usually isnt especially profitable to craft. The expensive ingredients in the food can be crafted into more demanded foods, which is the only reason this food keeps any value.
Plus, you jacked up the price. The sales should come in at a slow trickle. But the fact that barely anybody jumped in to undercut you is evidence that you picked a good market to manipulate.
OP is being over dramatic.
He’s wrong.
There is a sort of ‘meta’ for players to sit on the ledge and single target range the boss down & this strategy doesn’t work If players AoE the critters who heal the boss.
HOWEVER
If OP cared to do something other than whine, he could take aggro of all the critter himself, allowing the boss to be melee’d/cleaved/AoE’d down in no time.
The boss would die very quick and he wouldn’t be complaining about other players.
I hate how everybody is creating the same topic, bumping good threads off the front page.
Does this mean that we only have until Tuesday to finish our monthly?
What happens to the AP cap? This new system seems to liberally award AP, and a lot of people will hit the cap soon.
Don’t Transfer! Borliss Pass and Magumma are racing each other to join you.
This is disappointing.
Most of us are expecting Wintersday to be a total rerun of last year. If that is the case we can expect (1) clicking on stuff in LA (2) grindIng bells/toypacalypse/snowball mayhem/ jump puzzle, hopefully not 40 times each, and (3) Workshop (which didn’t need to be grinded last year but did in year one) as well as a Pvp rewards track.
This wasn’t enough stuff to do last year, when we got a simultaneous living story to do.
I don’t know why everybody is saying there is only one LS update left. There could easily be two. The teaser has us exploring beyond the door, but there is also the area beyond the vines in the west. Plus there are two armor pieces left.
(edited by nekretaal.6485)
The lvl 1-20 one comes at lvl 5 or 6 and is a choice of three common dyes.
There is still way too much supply and too little demand for flippers to get involved in dyes. That will have to burn out, which is why OP could burn 100G in dyes and not make a dent. That’s why it’s safe.
These haven’t dropped for over 16 months. Anet really ought to rerelease. The players who got this 16 months ago got o cartelize the market for over a year.
At one point they promised Vhina that China pulse get everything we’ve got. I don’t think they have these, in which case Wanze you run the risk that anet will undercut you with a rerelease.
Op’s point can be addressed by simply putting the crafting far away from the TP like in Hoelbrak,
Real reason not to put in crafting is that the Queque pop up doesn’t pop over the crafting window which results in 9 angry players having to wait longer to start the match.
I just got 400 gems in my 25k achievement box (and 30 gold). Is this what OP is talking about?
I don’t mind the cheap gimmicks. Especially in content that is not meant to be repeated like this.
I do mind repeating the entire level including all dialogue when I get hit by a a cheap 1 hit == lose gimmick.
The glint mission got this right, none of the others have.
Dear Santa (or am I supposed to address this to Tixx),
We’ve been very good this year and we hope that you think so too. We hope that you will update your Wintersday gift boxes. It isn’t that the various toy skins, snowflakes, Empyreal Fragments, altruism recipes, and bells aren’t great, it is just that they aren’t worth anything. There are too many of them.
Doubtless you have your own surprises, items and inventions which nobody has seen before. It’s exciting if you do. But I’m limited to requesting things that exist for my Wintersday wish list.
I think that since the supply of several limited-release items has disappeared, that they would be a great Wintersday surprise. Not even prestigious items, several regular items have disappeared to the point where they are unaffordable.
For Example: (current TP price in parentheses)
Recipe: Superior sigil of Torment (150g)
Recipe: Keeper’s Pauldrons (650g), all Keeper’s weapons
Recipe: Toxic Sharpening Stone (37g)
Recipe: Bowl of Sweet and Spicy Butternut Squash Soup (19g)
Azurite Orb (9g)
Favor of the Festival (28g)
Sentinel’s Orichalum Imbued Inscription (8G)
Desert Rose (82g)
Recipe: Carrot Souffle (8g)
Southsun Mask (67g)
None of these are prestige items, they just haven’t dropped in a while. But Consider Also giving:
Superior Sigil of Generousity (77g)
(This didn’t drop from normal boxes last year and is quite pricy vertical progression in a game that not supposed to have that. I guess the players who bought this for 65 silver 2 years ago are just lucky). Finally,
Recipe: Chaos of Lyssa (212g)
This was a prestige item, but it’s drop rate was bugged 80+% of the event. That bugged rarity is why almost none of the created back pieces exist today: the recipe is too rare to use. Give us a second chance at the item, especially if It will someday be included in a “phantasm weapons” collections.
Thank you.
Does anybody else have any suggestions?
If Winterday is a rerun….
That means that there is an awful grind required on three different activities (omg the bells, if you aren’t good at them you don’t even get credit for doing the activity).
Plus there is new living story finale to do (grind as fast as you can so you are covered in the event the SW suddenly dies)
I’m not sure I’ll have time for SAB, which itself is quite time consuming in its trial and error “challenge mode,” and “run the chest only once a day” regular mode.
My advice above is still good, but also consider: Unidentified Dyes.
These are slowly creeping up and all sources for them are nerfed to hell. Black lion chests are the last good way to get them, but anet sneakily nerfed this replacing some Unidentified droos with special die kit drops.
Unidentified dies will continue to creep up until excess supply is all burned, and afterwards will be a way for you to invest in the gemstore without paying 27% tax.
If you are going to take a break, investing in 1-ticket Black lion skins might be the way to go. Even better might be just absorbing a loss and buying gems.
You are investing in the price of the gemstore, a price which Anet itself will prop up.
If you are worried about sudden inflation, Ecto prices and precursors are wildly watched stable markets. (but notice that the new SW zone drops a lot more rares than other zones and long term farming of SW could impact markets. Rares are down since SW released. Eventually Ectos and precursors could follow. Will new zones be like the SW, which drops rares but less vendor trash, silver drops and mats? That’s a bad indicator).
Seasonal items are Seasonal. Candy corn is priced low right now and will eventually be in demand next year. Last year giant snowflakes were 2.5 silver at x-mas and almost 8 silver now. This is decent option if you only want to quit for a few months.
Then there are limited release “prestige” items. Is Scarlet’s kiss coming back? If no you have a safe investment. (But Anet promised China that they would get a chance to get all of our stuff so it probably is coming back). Some previously rereleased items like the Sigil of Generousity or the monacle kept most of thier value, even increasing price on the rerelease due to renewed interest. But this game doesn’t have too much respect for limited release items in general. The town clothes tonics will never be rereleased, but who wants them?
The Flips? Those are about getting a lucky buy order to hit more than anything.
Recently I’ve been trying to pickup lvl 60 armors for 5 silver and sell for 30 silver, a spectacular profit that is mostly based on getting the 1 copper overbid in at te right time.
The Flops?
1. I bet big big big on Watchwork sprockets during the pavillian. Like 20 stacks worth. Zealots wasn’t in the game yet, and they isn’t have a lot of uses. Still I figured they would eventually go up.
I also bought up like 5 stacks of Recipe: Twisted Watchwork Portal. The item is nice to get a new character map completion (or just get a new character to Orr/farming zones quick) and cheap to craft.
Then Anet WTFPWNED me. After Scarlet’s pavillian came Scarlet’s invasions which dropped 10x as much of the same stuff. My stuff was now useless and I took a big loss. (18 months later and these items finally have some value)
2. I tried a buy and hold strategy on Gemstore Dyes. Buy at 30g hold for 2 months, sell for 80g. It worked at first. Then it stopped working: the dyes got ugly and people didnt care anymore. Plus, almost as if anet’s cash shop team was watching prices, every time these dyes moved up, they would get rereleased. Ended up tying up a lot of money time and storage spots for a mixed performance.
3. When will I learn? I bought up 1 ticket black lion weapons, hoping to one day sell at just less than the 5 ticket price, but Anet seems dedicated to rereleasing weapons at the two ticket price. So not only is the big profit gone, but I’ve got to not panic sell at the right time before Anet undercuts me.
4. I panic sold items from the first Zephrite bash when the second Zephrite bash hit because I read bad information on the forums about what was rereleased.
5. I bought Sam and the Commisar’s manifesto at 300-400g per. If the events ever get fixed I will feel really stupid. Will they?
6. Minipet prices only move in one direction, down. Feel dumb for ever buying, at least I didn’t sell and have to buy them again for the new collection AP.
Ironically, it’s BECAUSE of players camping the puzzle that Obsidian Sanctum died.
The reason is because the kind of player who enjoys doing JP’s every single day….
I love JP’s, and back before EotM was introduced, I used to do OS every single night for the Badges, .
This guy starts off wrong and then finishes right.
Obsidan sanctum was great because it was it was the best source of badges, so you had a constant stream of people. As badges are a WvW resource, the PvE jump puzzle guys don’t have a good complaint.
What happened is first Badges were changed so they dropped anywhere not just from players, then EoTM was introduced with tons of badges rewarded every event.
Meanwhile anet has never introduced additional sinks for badges. I argued at the time that anet ought to increase the WvW exclusive armor skins 10x to keep up with badge inflation, but that didn’t happen and exclusive WvW skins are trivial.
This made OS obsolete.
It’s a potentially a high risk JP, but no reward anymore.
I’ve seen people claim that they park characters at the end of JPs just to claim rewards daily. Not sure that is more difficult than auto-attacking during a meta event.
I have 11 characters parked at jumping puzzle chests, and one of them is parked at the timberline falls JP where it is a really short walk between 2 jump puzzle chests after you get to the vista.
I get my 2 emp shards plus blues/greens/map pieces worth 2silver every day (i also have lvl 21 characters who can get silver doubloons from the chests), and I don’t have to worry about the grindy jump puzzle monthly. It’s glorious.
If I need to sell stuff, Pvp and WvW have merchants/bank/crafting.
I opened a BL chest and got a teleport stone yesterday. Is anybody parked at the Not so Secret Aetherblade chest? b/c I love to get a chance at sprockets too.
Yeah, but it’ll be a welcome relief playing man Ritlock…
… After the current living story which has focused on lesbians investigating the gossip of other lesbians.
It was 250 spores and 1 G. That’s 5-12 Gold to buy when it was released at today’s spore prices.
Plus, buying the recipe only got you an account bound recipe. The non account bound tradable ones came from RNG boxes that you bought with Pvp glory (you could only buy 5 boxes a day).
In other words, they were always super rare.
All things considered, Crafting these sigils isn’t even profitable.
(edited by nekretaal.6485)
+1.
This subforum has some of the best posts and posters.
I am ok with moving the crafting forum into here.
7. I’ve been trying to put in a specific buy orders by messing with the ## button instead of the slider. If I do this after setting a price, thn the number I set will go into the Gold price instead of the ## tab.
(ie place an order to buy 11 greatswords for 2 silver, 50 copper… And get a result of buying one greatsword for 11 gold, 2 silver, 50 copper)
This is really annoying. 20+ queue pops with no match this morning because one player was Afk.
Here are the reasons not to transfer
1. Transfers are really expensive. They cost half of what the game costs.
2. If you play in prime time, your server and the opposing servers basically have good coverage and you will get a good experience.
3. The rewards for winning are fairly meaningless.
PS. OP mentioned wanting to break off from the Zerg and make a meaningful impact on the game. Perhaps he should transfer down to lower populated servers where such things are not only possible but how the game’s played.
(edited by nekretaal.6485)
Silver league and below servers don’t have real off hours non prime coverage.
Please define: Real off-hours coverage
Two days ago I took 3/4 of EB with seven people… All but the red keep and SM, which we couldn’t take because there were 2 dudes with siege disablers.
This was at 5 pm EST, which might even count as prime time.
While this was going on, nobody was in our borderlands, we had nothing in the green borderlands and nothing flipped. We also had 5 people in the red borderlands (3 in teamspeak!) who took all of the south towers and camps and hills. They were thwarted by a group of 4 with siege disablers.
In three hours of taking whatever we wanted, I got two kills.
Server merge solves nothing.
You’re just going to end up with the exact same problems as before, only difference is there are less servers.
If you don’t like the play style on your server, then transfer. Don’t spoil things for those who like their server the way it is.
And those who are already on higher tier servers… I’m disgusted that they still think of lower tier servers as a resource to be plundered to beef up their own numbers. I’ve said it before: this kind of thinking is as stupid as movie studios believing that their sales will go up if illegal downloading did not exist.
+1000
Silver league and below servers don’t have real off hours non prime coverage.
So server merge solves nothing. It just crowds all of the prime time players into fewer servers.
If you use Button one on an enemy that is not facing you, it stuns.
Who else gets a stunning auto attack?
The only times that I ever got dumped into a game without seeing the pop up, I was playing the TP while waiting for the Q.
What’s the only thing to do in the Pvp lobby?
Play the TP
PvPers LOVE Skyhammer!
And now we can finally play it in tPvP.
Moar non conquest games pls.
The Dry top Geodes Grind is really obnoxious…
5 months in, and I’m only at 7 Ambrite Weapons. I can get 60ish Geodes from a T4 sandstorm, so it will take me many more months to complete the set. Most Dry Tops can’t get t4 anymore, and I doubt I’ll ever see a T5+ again. The events are all on timers and are all fail == nothing which is really annoying.
Then there is the RNG on the fossils…
It’s best to leave this thread up to prove that there really were people who were complaining that Bandit Crests/Carapace Armor wasn’t grindy
Anybody who’d been doing the awful Geode Grind and saw that Carapace was almost the same AP could see that we weren’t going to have it good for long.
But even then, bandit crests acquisition even at 1k/piece is way less grindy than geodes. Plus you can get shortcuts by doing living story or farming bandit chests. Plus you can extract from bosses and turn in the parts for big bandit crest rewards. There’s also a Pvp track that doubtless will be repeatable when the living story finishes.
It’s more fun, and accomplish able in different ways. The only thing that’s annoying is the need to complete all of the living story achievements, and that’s only annoying because there are no replay motes/skip dialogue motes.
Tl;DR. OP was wrong, told you so.
Because Rytlock is the best male character that this game has and most of the game’s players are dudes.
Meanwhile the actual content was about lesbian plants.
Basically, bait and switch.
The reason is because the kind of player who enjoys doing JP’s every single day….
