As much as I hate how everything was recycled, anet did about as good as they could have.
The skritt lottery, while being a really sleazy form of cash shop, is propping up the price of bags, which in turn is making Halloween activities feel rewarding. They were always fun, and this year they are rewarding too.
Megaservers and LFG allow players to find groups, so the content didnt die this year.
If you are NA prime, the servers are all full of people in NA prime and you can o down all the way to t6.
The way to fix Mendon’s is to put an elevator door at the bottom of the stairs (where the guards are) so defenders can get in.
+1000
There is a good anti afk system already in place, and winners still get the advantage of advancing their grindy Pvp achievement point track.
Mad king says is fine.
The problems are:
(1) Events for villagers are underpowered. The first step involving the banquet has to go.
(2) Too many lunatics at the start of the game: There is supposed to be just one. However, in the real world, almost none of the instances start off full. When players join they are more likely to start as lunatics unless some time has passed. This results in gamers where there are 5 lunatics 30s in.
(3) The radar is too big. Press M when you are on the teleported and you can see almost the whole map.
(4) The “winning” villager doesn’t get credit towards the achievement, and neither does the last villager, if he is killed after 4:40. A lot of people playing are achievement hunters looking to finish their 50AP as soon as possible and they actively want to die so the can become ghosts.
(4a). A lot of the achievement hunters just want games to end quickly and villager wins end 5 minutes later than lunatic wins.
(5) There are spots on the map inaccessible to ghosts.
The simplest to implement fix to everything is to just shorten the game timer. But barring that, eliminating the banquet events, lessening radar, and switching the formula so that hot joiners start as villagers would balance things a lot.
He left last year. Although Sonder the Seller stuck around to sell the minipet and convert candy corn into cobs, the rest of the stuff left.
Mad king says is fine.
I’d balance the game by
(1) making the villager events much better
(2) making it easier to get the rifle
(3) in games that are not full when the game starts, new players come into the game as villagers
(4) Reduce the range of radar
How many 5-ticket sales did they make of the Halloween Weapons last year?
Why not just rerun the Halloween weapons as seasonal items? But what aren’t they on the list of disappearing skins?
Mini Mad King!
Mini Reaper (the animation from the finisher)
Excalibur is right that there is softness in precursor related markets. ie rares, greens, t5 mats, t6 mats…
I’ve noticed this too.
I think that a few more of the mega rich players in these precursor markets moved their cash for now into the stuff from the recent patches: collectible exotic / treasure / Halloween markets.
Sign of a coming decline or a buying opportunity?
I don’t think so. I’m under the cap tho.
I am too.
The labyrinth is fun, the clock tower is fun, even going back to LA is fun. And this year they decided to reward what was fun.
The new items are great. The rereleased Ghastly Grinning shield lottery means that the content will not die like last year from no rewards (also the mega server helps).
I don’t like content rehashes. I don’t like the decision to cheapen last years rewards after last year made the first year’s rewards the most valuable items in the game. I don’t like needing to play lunatic inquisition 50 times to complete the achievement: that is too much or too weeks.
Next year can we have
(1) mad king minipet
(2) complete the mad/moon/crossing/arachnophobia set
(3) Ascent to madness back in some form (Boss fractal is my suggestion).
(4) Reapers Rumble or lunatic inquisition fixes
(5) New story or continue old story
(6) In 2012, there were 3 bosses, including a mad king lookalike who spawned in the middle. Bring that fight back.
I hope red, blue, and green are coming for wintersday, and maybe we can get a potion with the Omnomberry Ghost Effect Next Halloween.
Empyreal Fragments are in a Halloween recipe, that’s a start I suppose.
The orange look is available very cheaply with Hylek potions.
But you know what, I think I prefer it this way, on an item, breather than on a potion I constantly have to refresh.
The lord is way too far from the capture points. Pushing lord is usually a mistake that causes your team to lose.
Autobalance is necessary.
But what they should do is
(1) remove the ability to pick which team you are on when you join the game, and
(2) remove spectate mode
These features are in the game so that you can watch games and play on the same team as your friend. So, perhaps it’s ok to let players choose thir team before the game starts, but not after. also perhaps.
(3) don’t let a player join the game unless somebody joins on the other team.
The replies to this thread (and there are many like it) will say that hot join is casual, for learning, but there is nothing to learn from playing in mismatches where you can’t lose.
In fact, mismatched hotjoin promotes bad habits.
In hotjoin rushing far or Svanir are good ideas because a momentary points advantage at the start will create a numbers advantage for your team that could last the rest of the game. In solo Q, rushing far or Svanir will get your outnumbered teammates wiped.
Because it wasn’t an achievement last year either.
Look for completing the clock tower to pop up as a Halloween daily.
I went up against a guardian who actually got the jump on me while my #4 was on cooldown and killed me with his greatsword, blowing my #2 with his aegis.
OFC, I came back in 2 seconds, gave him some mad king says and he died 5 seconds after I popped back up.
This should come back…..
…. As a boss fractal during the Halloween event!
Then they can do new content or rehash old content however they want.
At this point, any attention to WvW is welcome, especially an easily reversed change like this.
(Who wants to bet that the white swords eventually after a few patches come back, but only after you’ve upgraded your guards to T3).
I know that we all want 2 new maps so that every borderland isn’t the same (Hell, I’ll take one new map and the krait lake map), but that’s not coming.
I hate Foefire.
The points are too far away from spawn. Some noob will rush far and die and then u lose with no chance to come back. What a boring map.
Foefire has a Lord, but the lord is kind of a troll, not worth the effort for the points he rewards. So the map is a boring capture fest with the tweak that since the map is so big you can’t make a comeback from an early deficit.
Skyhammer is at least interesting. I’ll miss focus pulling people from stealth.
… And the bags are worth something this year. Not only do they give better loot and less junk, but lottery tickets for the mst expensive items in the game.
The trash mobs that dropped nothing now drop these great bags.
The labyrinth is recycled content but it was always fun and I’m glad the rewards are up to par.
The maize balm is not an exploitable loop.
The recipe is expensive, the number of ambients it can change are limited, and every mob does not drop loot.
The people who got the item cheaply and used it first “exploited” the ignorance of people who thought it was worthless, but he item is fine. People bought up an item for less than 1 silver, that probably ought to have been valued at 12 silver.
When the market value of the item adjusts to the item’s true value, this will be obvious to everyone.
It turns ambients ino candy corn elementals who can drop trick or treat bags.
If it turns out that there are places where you can slightly profit doing this, great. The time involved, slow respawn of ambieants and high cost to craft the potion limit the potential.
Sell now, and you will be selling while demand is still high. It’s day 2, you’ll still hit the initial craze.
Greedy buyers will buy up everything to flip, but the market will crash immediately after the patch when players find the new shiny to grind for. Wintersday, for example, is right around the corner, to say nothing of a possible season scavenger hunt.
If you hold until July or so you might get a decent, but not spectacular return, but even then you need to watch out for the fact that everything gets rereleased. Everything.
Who is doing this track?
It gives out nothing but trick or treat bags, personalized trick or treat bags, tomes of knowledge, and a 20 slot bag at the end.
I guess it’s a way to load up on bags without PvE… But it seems kind of low… Much lower than other tracks even.
Am I wrong?
The dungeon tacks are fine. Please don’t change them.
They are better for weapons than armor, so you spend your tokens on armor, not weapons.
Besides they also reward tokens.
The labyrinth died really fast last year.
I don’t think it will die so fast this year due to better rewards and LFG, but I would advise you to finish up in the lab sooner rather than later.
Sounds like a karka blade
I bought 2 of last years skins for the purpose of flipping later, and later added them to the account because the price never went up.
So this year I was looking at the trade: 6 tickets for 3 skins I kinda don’t want 2 achievve points, and 5 tickets.
I made that trade.
This is bull.
Of course, now that I remember it, they did take a gemstore mini and give it away to everybody for free during Wintersday last year.
Just don’t buy minis from the gemstore ever.
As for the mini prince… I got him “cheap” when candy cobs were dropping during the battle for lions arch, but I still ended up paying 120ish gold for the kitten thing. This change is infuriating.
They are disappearing because anet is making the “hard sale,” similar to the reason why the minipet boxes diss appeared.
“Buy it now or lose your chance forever.”
Of course, this just increases the odds that the skins will be brought back someday on sale.
edit 3 (in story form): Lemark wasn’t much of a haggler. the merchant had taken almost every copper he owned, but it was worth it. He was positive this time, no more fakes, no more copies, forgeries or lies, this was it. He could feel it, sinister…ghostly, it felt weird to hold, but he didn’t care, his journey was one quarter complete.
Try this: the Ghostly Doubloon
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ghostly_Doubloon
It’s ghostly and purchased from a merchant.
I spent a fortune on both of these. I am upset.
There are 2 basic philosophies regarding flipping.
“Singles” and “Homeruns.”
In “Singles,” you take items that are hugely traded, and buy low and sell high. You may not make the greatest return, but there is remote risk. Use GW2TP.com to find these items.
Last week, Kale (a cooking ingredient) had a buy of 99 copper and a sell of 1.49 copper. After tax this is a 27% return, and as the low seller you got your money back quick.
The difficulty is finding these items.
A variant in this strategy is to observe the normal volatility in commonly traded items and to buy them when they hit their low point. Silk, for example, is cheapest about 4-5 hours before reset.
“Home Runs” is a different story. In this flipping strategy, you will not be trying to sell to the marginal buyer, but to the guy who buys hundreds or thousands of the item all at once.
This works for food, consumables, superior siege, and mystic forge related markets like major runes.
If you look at “Berzerkers Iron Greatsword of the Geomancer,” a lvl 80 masterword Greatsword you will see that the item typically has buy orders of 2-3 silver and sell orders of 3-4 silver. However, if you look at actual listings… You will see hundreds and hundreds listed for 6-10 silver. So if you were able to buy the item for 3 silver and list it for 8 silver… That’s a 226% profit.
The hundreds of listings in the high range are proof that sellers think that there exist buyers at this price range, but these sellers may have to wait a while to get their money back. These sellers aren’t selling to the new lvl 80 who needs a Greatsword, they want the money of the whale who can throw thousands of greatswords into the forge at once to generate rare greatswords.
Of course, miscalculate on this risky flipping strategy, and you are left holding orders for overpriced junk.
I’m sure that Halloween will be mostly familiar but not a 100% rehash.
China doesn’t like skeletons so enemies will have to change. And now that you’ve hired guys to put a new coat of pain on things, why not tweak other things? So, new enemies.
Plus there’s a collection achievement with new items (candy corn consumables?)
Plus the Chinese hype page mentions a Pvp reward track.
But what would be a suitable end reward for a Pvp track? The Crossing/Mad Moon/Arachnophobia? Probably not, thats too much. Candy corn champ bags? Probably too little. My guess is new skins. (And possibly a collection track for te skins).
The Chinese page says that we’d meet the prince and view the conflict of the prince and the king. That could be a rehash or not.
Reddit thinks we may get a formal/vampire gemstore outfit, and new gemstore weapons seem assured.
I’m cautiously optimistic.
The worst part of last year was when the nerfed the already existing recipes for things like Gift of Thorns from 100 cand corn to 10 candy corn cobs (10,000 candy corn).
All of this extra cost for something older players already had.
You should never lose a game in hit join.
(1) hit play it now until you are on a winning team with more number than your opponent.
(2) if you ever have the chance, to autobalance, do it. This counts as a win and you get bonus glory.
(3) if your team has less players than the other team, hit spectate mode…. Wait for a player to autobalance, evening up the sides, and then transfer over to the winning team.
I’ve got about 30 mystic clovers right now…
All of them from Pvp.
These sit in my storage doing nothing. I’d love to have another use for them other than crafting a legendary which isn’t high on the wishlist.
Again, the low ranking servers have players but they have two problems.
1. Most of their players play in prime time, and
2. People bandwagon and stop playing if they die a bunch of times or their server is way behind
Merging full-in-prime time servers with full in prime time servers is not a solution.
Here is a solution:
Split the day into blocks, run a separate ranking for each block of time. That way a broad competitive scene can develop for prime time.
That wasn’t the reason at all.
If quartz wasn’t time gated, players would buy up all of the cheap quartz and throw it into the mystic toilet for cheap precursor attempts.
This would crash the prices for precursors, exotic weapons, rare weapons, masterwork weapons, T6 materials, legendary weapons, T5 materials… Basically all markets.
The way it is now, people who want celestial can get celestial and all of the other markets aren’t affected.
Cooking takes a lot of effort to be profitable. Its not worth it for game reasons (food is cheap) but get Cooking first if you cheaply want 7 levels.
After that, get the armor and weapon professions that your character needs. Anything you can craft you can buy cheaper until Ascended, so you are in no rush (but when you start to get rich, get to 450 in your craft, so you can start making time gated materials).
I think Jewelry is a waste of time.
I wouldn’t mind if we could salvage them for bloodstone dust.
I don’t like these Suggestions either.
Epidemic could use some sort of incidental, minor damage attached, so it is not sometimes a completely useless (and even harmful) skill but the cast time isn’kittens problem.
Axe 1 buff.
Healing in DS from regeneration, food, siphons, and teammates.
Buff to Corrosive Poison cloud (coodown reduction preferred)
Cast time reductions for Focus.
Some sort of group trait like Spotter. Maybe it can give the group life steals when u are in DS or something, basically some unique offensive buff.
You lost 10 seconds and you lost your easy crits on builds that didn’t spec precision.
Asia loves outfits, outfits are here to stay. If anything mix and match armor is on the way out.
The problem with server merges is the most of the low populated servers are populated, or even full… In prime time.
Server merges will just queue up these players.
Yeah these players are on servers that have little/nothing for off prime time coverage, but that the issue. Forcing populated prime time players onto full prime time servers isn’t the solution.
Server merges will not fix the real problem which is a 24/7 game mode with separate servers for EU/USA.
