Should not be a compatibility issue with your CPU/mobo.
What’s your power supply?
Your GPU TDP has gone from 80W to 150W so it may not be getting adequate power under load.

A easy way to get a whole lot of HPs at once is to hang around in AB after metas. I’d use the toon that needs the HPs to do the AB meta, which is profitable anyway. Then once the rewards phase is over, there’s frequently someone who starts a HP train. If not, I’ll just go do solo-able HPs until the next meta.
I completed my latest toon’s elite in about 6 hours of play over 2 days.

Did you crash mid-way through downloading? Maybe it corrupted the file. Try repairing the client:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client
Don’t have any first hand experience, but a quick internet search shows this is a problem with multiple games, so it’s something you need to take up with nvidia.
I joined mid-way through the first Halloween event. I spent my first day figuring out how to “unlock” Candy Corn mining, then the rest of the week doing Mad King Labyrinth trains and trying (unsuccessfully) to complete the Halloween JP.
Kaby Lake isn’t releases yet so actually noone can say if it’s worthwhile over Skylake. But it’s something to keep your eyes out for if you are still looking for a CPU when it releases.
It’s actually GDDR5X, and it is a GPU RAM, so your friend is confusing the two different RAM types.

Like I said, I wouldn’t have believed it if I wasn’t there. We must have missed 4 breakbar attempts during the time I was in the fight. I can’t recall exactly how much HP it had when I joined but it was at least 2/3 full. I honestly thought it was a lost cause after we missed 2 breaks.
50% discount on HoT again anytime soon?

Can’t say… that was Anet’s 1st ever direct HoT sale. Maybe when LS4 launches, since this sale was linked to the beginning of LS3.
Otherwise you will find it on sale more often with 3rd party retailers. But stick with Anet’s official partners… others have been burned when they unknowingly bought stolen keys from dodgy sellers.

I’ve found the biggest problem with it is that players don’t know that this is one fight that’s basically impossible to best if you don’t break it’s defiance bar. Lots of new players to Heart of Thorns haven’t realised the importance of defiance bar breaking, but hopefully they will with time.
You actually CAN kill it without breaking it’s breakbar… I would not have believed it if I didn’t see it myself. I joined that particular fight 2-3 minutes late, so it may have been broken earlier in the fight, but while I was there we didn’t break a single bar and we killed it with less than a minute remaining. There were about 20-25 players.
One thing I did notice with that encounter was there were very few downed players; so everyone was doing a much better job at staying alive, the dead were WPing, and we were able to sustain our DPS.
TLDR; Yes, breaking the bar makes the kill quicker and with more margin of error, but if you adhere to good combat habits, it’s still possible.
Btw, I’m sorry to make a difficult decision even more complicated, but…
Snip
OP is complaining of CTDs with a driver error messege, not low FPS. He has already tried running the game at lower settings (amongst other things), hence his conclusion that it’s a hardware issue that’s causing his problems.
Not this again. Some people you can’t get a gift for.
To be fair, in the OP’s mind, everyone else got a gift worth ~100g and they did not.
For the OP, I’m surprised you didn’t learn from the 3rd year gifts. I used to use the TP to obtain each dye from the new limited-edition packs as they came out — the third year present taught me not to, as that one is already taking up an inventory slot in my foolish dream that someday, ANet will expand the list of available dyes.
If I owned a Ferrari, I’d be disappointed too if someone gifted me another one.
Have you killed Mayatl in VB? It gives a MP that isn’t listed on the achievement panel.
A gem store consumable that can transfer crafting from one toon to another would be nice.

You’ve listed a bunch of European servers that Anet run. You won’t find a launch version of GW2 on them either. But you’re welcome to join them if you don’t mind speaking french, german or spanish.
Officially Intel only supports DDR3L, but mobo makers seem to have made it so that they can run regular DDR3
I know that and I pointed it out in my post. It was a confusing situation when it happened, but I have yet to see widespread media reports of Skylake CPUs dying from DDR3 in the year or so since since it was released.
You’re right to point it out, as it could potentially fry the processor; but by the same token the mobo manufacturers seem pretty confident in their products. There are high end Z170 boards supporting regular DDR3 from well-respected manufacturers.
http://www.kitguru.net/components/motherboard/anton-shilov/asusteks-intel-z170-mainboards-will-work-correctly-with-ddr3-1-5v1-65v-modules/
Anyway, the point of my post is that there ARE Skylake mobos out there that take DDR3, so don’t go blindly buying one of those “because Skylake only supports DDR4”, then wonder why your DDR4 modules don’t fit. Some retailers may allow returns for such mistakes… not where I live.
4-6 weeks (inclusive this week) depending on whether we get another pre-Ep2 current event. I explained my reasoning in my own speculation thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/Tremors-event-and-LS3-ep-2-speculation/6307941
Yes, you can use the account bound Sunrise to make it. The Eternity will be sellable until you equip it. Skins unlock when you either account bind or soul bind them. So, the only skins you’d keep if you did sell Eternity are the ones for Sunrise and its precursors; the Twilight skin and its precursor skins would still be locked for you.
Actually, he’ll also get the Twilight + Dusk skins… he needs to make Twilight in order to combine with Sunrise, and even if he doesn’t manually account-bind Twilight, the act of mystic forging an item also unlocks it’s skin. The only skin he won’t get at the end of the process is Eternity.
Nvm… I see you’ve corrected yourself.

If you’re up to the limit of shared slots, the gem store doesn’t even display them as an option to buy; unlike how you can accidentally buy bank slots even if you are maxed out.
e.g. I’ve got 11 slots atm, and the only options I’m given is to buy 1 or 3 slots… no more 5 slot option.
Use https://pcpartpicker.com/ to mock up your build before you actually buy any parts… it’s got a checker which should stop you from buying incompatible parts.
Edit: Btw… Skylake does support DDR3… it’s just that the majority of Mobos only have DDR4 slots. Officially Intel only supports DDR3L, but mobo makers seem to have made it so that they can run regular DDR3

There was a bug that caused any boost item stored in the bank to disappear. Anet’s advice at the time was not to store them in the bank. I’m not sure if the bug has been fixed yet.
You need 3 in total for Ad Infinitum… 2 in the start and 1 extra at the end.
One of the main advantages is that they’re persistent. They’re always located in one area, so you can keep working towards an objective. They don’t replace timed events either, and in some cases doing events benefits your heart objectives too!
As an event, they are persistent up to the point you complete it, then they become window dressing… forever. A frequently spawning event achieves the same purpose without the finality of completing a heart.
They count towards map completion. It gives you more reason to explore the area outside of just passing through, and encourages players to gather in certain areas to complete them. Areas with hearts are often hotzones of activity for players.
There are plenty of other incentives to encourage exploration… vistas, POIs, HPs. Also event chains and story quests often make you travel through a map. And I wouldn’t describe hearts as a hotzone for players to congregate. Most players congregate around events, e.g. waiting for Teq, or bank/crafting hubs. It’s just a coincidence that a heart is in the area… there are plenty of lonely hearts (pun intended) out there.
As someone rightly pointed out earlier, heart events aren’t found in level 80 zones in Tyria. Honestly, I don’t see that changing for the Maguuma either. My goal here isn’t to suggest they should be added, but offer an interesting counterpoint to the hate that heart events seem to get.
I think Anet’s goal with hearts in the sub-80 zones is to make players realize it’s actually the dynamic events that are interesting. By the time you reach the 80 zones, they trust you’ve learned the lesson and have the initiative to go find said events.
This is a bit of speculation on my part, but I’ll stick my neck out here and you guys can rate my pre-cognition skills in 1.5 months.
My predictions/wish list:
Ep2 will be focused around Primordus
Because Taimi said so (well, duh Sherlock!). The introduction of the Primordus weapon collection achievement implies that too.
It will take place in Mount Maelstrom
Seis is leading us south… Mount Maelstrom would be a logical place for a Primordus based story to take place. 5 different locations as part of the achievement… Shiverpeaks > Snowden > Lornar’s > Dredgehaunt?? > Timerline?? then a final hop to Mt M.
Megadestroyer overhaul
You can’t have a cooler (hotter?) battle arena than inside a volcano… unfortunately the fight is kitten. A Primordus related update is the perfect time to revisit this.
Ep2 is 4-6 weeks away
The Tremors event is a countdown to Ep2… why else would this seemingly minor Current event be dragged out over 5 weeks? No single story achievement has been time-gated to that extent. And Anet knows we hate having an unreachable carrot dangled in front of us (e.g. Legendary armors) so why dangle such a weak-sauce carrot and irritate us…. UNLESS they are using it as part of their story telling/suspense building. 4 more weeks (this week plus 3 more map hopping weeks) +/- an extra 1-2 weeks for a “Destroyers gone wild” pre-Ep2 event sounds feasible. It feels kinda like Anet’s quietly confident approach leading up to Ep1… “We know we are annoying the hell out of you guys with these small teasers, but it’ll make the final reveal feel much sweeter” type of sentiment.
That’s probably because most players run the elite specs, so we don’t have much experience with the core specs in the current meta. Elite specs are definitely an advantage over core, but by how much is a bit harder to quantify. Only real way for you to know is to reinstall and give it a try.
Btw, even though you missed the 50% sale, you should be able to find 3rd party retailers selling HoT at a discount from time to time.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
The issue is with how that entrance is designed; if your team runs ahead of you, the door locks and you can’t get in. I can’t see why Anet can’t make it like the Aetherblade fractal… i.e. if someone activates the door, all team members get teleported into the room.
If your CPU doesn’t need to be replaced in the short-term, you should wait until AMD’s Zen CPUs are out. Rumor is that they will be released later this year, and be competitive with Intel’s i5+ CPUs.
http://wccftech.com/amd-zen-launch-q4-2016/
If you crafted too blades many by mistake, there’s no way in-game to recover your mats. You have to contact Customer Support to reverse it. Link top right of this page “Services -> Support -> Submit a request”
Aren’t they used in crafting ascended items…? Could be confusing it with something else.
You get them from salvaging ascend items, not used for making them. I think you’re thinking of dark matter.
You also need balls of dark energy for the new legendary weapons.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_the_Mists
Btw, why are you salvaging ascended items if you’ve finished Ad Infinitum?
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
The glider bombs and mortar attacks are really good knockdowns.
The only times I’ve seen him broken are when enough players go up in the air to bomb him. I’ve never seen regular CC successfully break his bar.
Breather stats have never been changeable. Underwater combat in general has fallen to the bottom of Anet’s priority list, so I doubt we’ll see any changes in the near/medium term unfortunately.
There was also a temporary map in S1, Labyrinthine Cliffs… it was only available for a few weeks during the Festival of Four Winds.
As Donari said, it’s hard to predict how LS will change the game, as Anet has been constantly evolving their approach. When GW2 first started, no other MMO had content that progressed in that frequent, steady pace, so they were doing a lot of experimenting to find the best approach.
By mastery I meant experience, I already have 35 tyria mastery points but I can not find a proper way to grind experience, I tried doing dungeons and fractals but it seemed too slow compared to maguuma, even with a booster.
There’s the CoF P1 xp farm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5H8o1XRlew
Unfortunately, since most players have their masteries, I don’t see many groups doing this farm anymore.
Otherwise, load up on XP bonuses (they will stack with the XP boosters) and do whatever core Tyria activity you enjoy.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experience
I’m out of ideas. Hope you get it sorted.
Did you attune or infuse the ring? There’s been an issue where by doing so, you can’t change the stats. AFAIK it hasn’t been fixed.
Another possibility I can think of, are both of you eligible to play ranked? If I recall correctly, you need to reach a certain pvp rank by playing unranked before you can play ranked.
It won’t be perfect, but you can approximate it with some combo of Soldier’s, Sentinel’s, Captain’s and Knight’s (i.e. any prefix that includes power, precision, vit and/or toughness)
Did one of you change maps while queuing? The system is set up so you abandon your queue when you change maps. That is in order to avoid dishonor if you were in a loading screen and couldn’t accept your invite.
What would you suggest as a suitable gift?
You seem to be thinking of it more as a reward. Remember, there’s a difference between a reward and a gift. A reward implies you did something to earn it, a gift doesn’t. Think of your own birthday or X’mas gifts… yes, some are lucky enough to have parents/relatives who are rich/generous enough to give truly life-changing gifts (e.g. a car, a laptop, paying off your college loan, etc) but most of us get less significant gifts (e.g. toys, games, socks). In RL, no one is obligated to give you an expensive, life-changing gift; so if you have that mentality, you won’t be disappointed in RL or in-game.
In a way, Anet has given us a very expensive gift, the dye pack; but it’s inconsequential from a gameplay perspective. And I think it is a good move on their part not to give us veterans a gameplay advantage via birthday rewards, as it is unfair to new players as there is no way for them to earn that advantage other than waiting 4 years (by which time we would have been given even more advantages).
BTW, if you picked a backpack that you don’t like without realizing it’s an account-wide thing, you can always submit a ticket to Customer Support… they’re pretty good with things like that.

The Halloween utilities change your colour when you resurrect someone, or get resurrected by someone with the buff. You can buy those on the TP.
In Beetletun, there are at least 2 cats near each other. One can be fed, the other can’t
The same thing happens to the ascended weapons from elite spec collections. Like Rose said, just transmute them.
You don’t need to wait, you can mix and match existing types to get more or less what you want. Pvp is in a different situation, there’s no mix and match option, so they’ve been given more stat combos to allow for flexibility.
1) Salvage them and sell the crafting mats.
2) Magic find is debatable… even if it does work, the effects are subtle i.e. a 300% higher chance to get a precursor drop is still tiny. Just consume luck as you get it, I wouldn’t waste gold trying to increase it (the quick way to get 300% is to salvage lots and lots of ecto)
3) Which part of the mastery are you having issues with… the mastery exp or the mastery points?
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
Buying or upgrading to HoT deluxe edition (not the core deluxe edition) will also give you an extra character slot.
Was part of a balance update last year.

I think the super boss idea won’t be done.
They did something similar to what you describe with the Ancient Karka event when SouthSun was introduced. It was a one time only boss battle over several hours. It was laggy, tons of players disconnected and couldn’t get back onto an active map. It was a disaster.
Machined Shield Backing not dropping?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: onevstheworld.2419
That shouldn’t be correct… since it should be based on the skin unlock in your wardrobe.
Agreed… and you can’t “remake” the machined shield, since it is a collection reward, you can’t craft another copy.
Not only that, it’s 4th birthday reward. Same happened last year with Electro blue dye, went from 1000g to much less (at birthday launch 3rd).
I think this is the bigger reason… the TP sellers can’t compete against free.
