Go back to your Necro… ever since Anet revamped condi damage and buffed minions, it has become much, much more viable.
It still doesn’t do party support very well, but they are very desirable in raids and high fractals.
Since you like DH, have you tried using great sword? It’s a more bursty weapon than hammer so combat feels more fast paced. Combine that with Retreat (+/- speed boosting runes an a 2nd armor set).
You’ll have to switch your build and equipment when you go raiding, but that may be a good compromise to have a more enjoyable open world experience.
Other than their consistant value, I also justify choosing the laurels over every other box because:
- If I didn’t choose the laurel box and I suddenly needed the laurels, I will have to wait about 2-3 weeks (if starting from day 1) to get the equivalent amount of laurels.
- If I didn’t choose any of the other boxes and I suddenly needed what they contained, I can get those items with 3-5 days of effort.
You can’t sell your relics… they get deposited into your account wallet.
It may be possible with a reaper… your shroud can absorb part of the agony damage.
I assume you are already level 80.
1) Have you unlocked the mastery system yet? I assume not if you have not gone to the HoT maps. I’m not sure what you mean by a flashing EXP bar, but it does sound like you are “wasting” EXP. Go do the 1st mission of HoT and you’ll unlock the mastery lines and your EXP will be counted again.
2) Vanilla game mobs (with the exception of the SW mordrem, and maybe the karka) are quite easy, you shouldn’t have much trouble even with the level 80 ones. What level gear are you using? If you’re mostly equipped with level 80 rares (yellow), you’ll be fine. Easiest way to get those are to do world bosses.
That bug has been there as ever since legendary crafting was available. Maybe even before that, but no one cared.
It does eventually reset, probably when the map resets or you get into another instance. Does take a while though.
Otherwise see my response in a prior thread.

The moment you touch the floor of the room, you’ll get hit by agony which ticks a fixed % of health, so toughness and vitality won’t help you survive.
The raven is in the north east part of the boss room. You enter the area via the south, so will likely aggro the mobs as you try reach it. You could try, but I don’t think there is a safe way to get the raven without starting the encounter.
As Donari says, it’s not hard to get the AR. You should have some relics from doing the other collection items, and you can do the T1 dailies which give a pristine relics each (converts to 15 regular relics).
It’s sounds like the Lyssa skin.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lyssa's_Regalia
Edit: doh, I was beaten to it
I recall it being talked about when raids were first released.
It probably never became a thing because it put too much pressure on a single player, you don’t have the flexibility for optimal positioning for heals/support, and going down means loosing your 2 most important roles at once.
Spirit Vale best place to solo farm.
Don’t i need 10 people to even enter?
You can enter solo by creating a raid squad, don’t need a commander tag.
No comment about the VG farm though ;P
I can’t speak for Sunrise, but I did the Twilight one 3 times before succeeding.
I’m not sure if it made any difference to the progress, but my successful run was the only time I started the quest chain personally and made sure the NPCs didn’t die or get distracted by some random mob in the side corridors.
Laurels.
If you’re not up to 80 yet, the ascended and legendary boxes won’t be any use to you for a long time. Even then, it’s rng if they drop mats worth more than the 20 laurels (approx 1g per laurel if you buy crafting mats)
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
If you’re not too attached to your old account, I don’t see why you shouldn’t make a new one for HoT.
You’ll get a level 80 boost, so you can get straight into HoT content.
The downsides I can see are anything account bound. Karma is the most obvious, but you can build that up fairly quickly, and it’s major use is making legendaries anyway.
I’d suggest going through your account carefully before making your choice, but it sounds like a new account has more benefits for you.
https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/item/29172-Leaf-of-Kudzu
Have a look at gw2bltc.
If you click on “SL” (its next to the small blue shopping cart icon), the drop down list will give you the mat requirements, which includes both crafting and collections.
AB is more rewarding if you multi-map, so you need to join a squad.
You don’t need to do the AB events leading up to octovine unless you want to get additional currency or keys. Just join a multi-map taxi when the octovine begins.

I think we’re going too far into the theory and it’s confusing the issue.
The original premise of the discussion was armor/toughness exhibits diminishing returns (as is commonly believed) or if its just an illusion caused by proportions (as your 1st reply to me indicated). I’ll point out that your toughness example there only had 2 data points; there needs to be more to see the relationship (BTW, there’s a typo: your .05 should have been .5)
To avoid confusion with proportions, I’ll just use absolute numbers
Take a hypothetical situation: power x weapon x coefficient = 10,000
At 10 toughness:
10,000/10 = 1000 damage
Damage reduction = 10,000-1000 = 9000
On average, each point of toughness reduces damage by 900
At 100 toughness:
10,000/100 = 100
Damage reduction = 10,000-100 = 9900
On average, each point of toughness reduces damage by 99
At 1000 toughness:
10,000/1000 = 10
Damage reduction = 10,000-10 = 9990
On average, each point of toughness reduces damage by 9.99
Another way to look at it
Going from 1 toughness to 2 toughness
10,000/1 = 10000 damage
10,000/2 = 5000 damage
+1 toughness here reduced damage by an additional 5000
Going from 10 toughness to 11
10,000/10 = 1000
10,000/11 = 909.09 (make it 909)
+1 toughness reduced damage by an additional 91
Going from 100 toughness to 101 toughness
10,000/100 = 100
10,000/101 = 99.009 (make it 99)
+1 toughness reduced damage by an additional 1 point
Going from 1000 toughness to 1001
10,000/1000 = 10
10,000/1001 = 9.99
+1 toughness reduced damage by an addition 0.01 (effectively zero depending how rounding is handled.)
That shows that: given a constant attack, adding excessive toughness is not cost effective in terms of additional damage mitigated.
The caveat: if the attack power/coefficient increases, the absolute benefits of toughness increase too.

If you are looking for weapons too, the elite specialisation collections are the cheapest method, but your weapon types are limited.
Drop rates in T2 fractals aren’t great, T3 is better, but you’ll want T4 to have a realistic chance. The catch is you’ll need some ascended armor to get the required AR, so you’ll have to craft a few pieces.
The ley stone armor collection awards an ascended armor chest. Use it to get the coat, as that’s the most expensive piece.
Aside from Teq, triple trouble, wvw and pvp chests also can drop ascended.
I think it’s up to personal preference. If you are an efficient gold generator, and enjoy that, just buy it. If you are not, or enjoy a more varied set of challenges, craft it.
I crafted dusk, and except for few bugs (bauxite alchemical, I’m looking at you), I found it satisfying in the end.
In terms of fractals, AFAIK you only need T1 fractals, so it’s easy to pug and ascended trinkets will give you more than enough AR.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
You can’t, only up to your fractal level. On your LFG, you can put “opener needed”. There are plenty of pug groups that advertise that way, and I’ve personally had nice players join the party purely to open the level (they don’t need to stay for the fractal itself)
I don’t know how old your characters are, but you’ll get the same dye pack as the 3rd birthday gift. Still a tough choice.
I have to disagree about your assessment of toughness’ relationship to damage:
You are correct about power, it is linear. But toughness isn’t linear.
I find the easiest way to see linear relationships are to actually graph out the equation. I’ll stick to the numbers you used to make the comparison easier to see.
Power:
Toughness:
You can even look at it via damage reduction instead of damage:
Damage reduction = Damage with 0 toughness – Damage with toughness
y is damage reduction
x is toughness
y=[100*1*1/(100+0)]-[100*1*1/(100+x)]
Graph
Not a straight line either.
You can plug in other numbers to check, but the damage formula won’t give you a linear relationship between damage and toughness.
There’s no argument and no need to clarify anything. Players have already been banned for exactly what you describe.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Minion-Farming-with-No-3rd-Party-Programs/first#post6214229
It is supposed to be that way… Technically to get the backpiece u need to get your personal reward lvl to 100 to access it but like most people we take the easy way and get an “opener” i have ad infinitum but personally i think you shouldnt have been able to get it witbout having to do every fractal 1-100 which means all the fractal scale achievements done. Would have made much more sense to do it that way.
That would have been a hard pill for a lot of players to swallow considering they revamped the fractal scale achievements when ad infinitum was released. So everyone, regardless of prior fractal level, would need to re-do 1-100 again.
You may feel differently, but I would have been really annoyed.
If you look at the damage formula, damage is inversely proportional to defense+toughness (not a linear relationship). As Justine alluded to, the benefits of each additional point of armor diminishes as your total increases.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Damage
Also, condi damage (which HoT is full of) totally ignores armor.
Depending on what class you play, pets/minions and CC/chills/cripples also increase survival by keeping mobs away from you.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
This bug is known… Anet is aware and their advice was to not store your 80 boost items in your bank for the time being.
Contact CS to get your stuff back.
Hop into WvW just after reset, that’s when there’s the most activity so you’ll be able to max out participation. Just find and follow the tag.
Once participation is maxed, its a purely time-based progression… a tick every 5 minutes or so.

And yes, your CPU is more than enough for Gw2.

Unless you are overclocking, better CPU cooling makes almost no difference to your performance. If your system is actually overheating, the heatsink has probably dislodged and needs to be reseated. Otherwise, a quieter system is the only benefit your system will achieve. (your CPU can’t be overclocked, only Intel’s K or X rated ones can)
Regarding GPUs, the model or vram numbers are a terrible way to comparing performance between manufacturers or generations. Instead, have a look at http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
I agree with the posters above, especially if you are aiming for the backpack and are starting from scratch. It’s going to take you ages so you might as well start now.
Each tier of the legendary is gated by research pages. With the fractal mastery, you can earn 2 per day, and you need 28 per tier.
You’ll also need time to accumulate the various mist essences and several thousand fractal relics for collection items, including the fractal capacitor.
And finally, you’ll need to figure out how you will get balls of dark energy, 2 for the first tier and 1 for the final step.
The wiki says the daily chest, but I could swear I got a golden weapon from an end of fractal chest too.
Also be aware crafting requires components from pvp, wvw and fractals too. The pvp and wvw parts are minor as you can buy them on the TP fairly cheaply.
The fractal parts are account bound so you must get it yourself. However AFAIK they can be achieved in T1 fractals.
I personally found the crafting journey quite satisfying.
As a long term goal, you should aim to multi class.
Classes come in and out of the meta, and being able to readily swap into a different role is a huge asset.
Hot has been on sale, just not via official website.
If you’re in Australia, eb games has recently had it for half price. I think that sale may still be on.
The golem parts is the first event of the chain, so your best bet is to get to the area asap after a meta is complete/fails. If you are alone it takes a fair bit of time, but you can solo it.
1. Use more tankier gear.
2. Find people to do events together: lfg; tags on the map; or just try different parts of the map for someone doing meta.
3. To level up masteries play Tag Wars 2 in Dragon’s Stand with some xp boosters.
3. To get masteries points – explore all the maps. What the heck is Tag Wars 2?
And I don’t need points just xp for unlocks.
Also something seems off for even with full stacks of bloodlust, my damage is still weaker then other players.
I think he means tagging/hitting as many mobs as possible (without necessarily killing them) so you get the xp when they are killed by someone else.
Regarding your damage, your traits and rotations have just as much bearing on your DPS as your equipment. Have a look at metabattle.com . You don’t necessarily need to copy those builds, but it will give you an idea what is effective.
1) Are you doing SW just for the obsidian shards? Chest trains are sometimes advertised on LFG, but they aren’t as common as they used to be. I personally find it easier to go to the Balthazzar temple and buy the shards with karma. This is where the 1 mil karma cost comes from. It’s not an unreasonable amount; many players have several million karma which they don’t have any use for.
2) No achievement for just crafting a legendary, you need to unlock the skin by account-binding the item (i.e. you can’t sell it). However, achievement points are given for the precursor collections.
I’d suggest looking at https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/ to see how much a legendary costs on the TP vs crafting.
Also you weren’t clear if you were crafting just the legendary, or crafting the precursor too. If crafting a precursor, aside from the material cost, you’ll need to complete a ton of collections, which does include doing fractals.
PS: you should only get a legendary if you really want the skin. If you just want the stats, get an ascended instead.
Can you see any green swirly or star icons on your map?
The swirly icon means you need to take that portal to another map. The star icon means you’re on the correct map and you need to get to it to continue your story.
There’s also a hint window on the top right screen which give some indication what you need to do next.
Look at online event timers, they’ll tell you what’s going on in which map, then find a LFG to taxi yourself into an active one.
If it’s MPs you need, there’s a variety of communes, adventures and achievements that you can do solo
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery_point_unlocks
Check on dulfy.net for guides to reach the trickier ones.
If you need to HPs, best time to ask map chat is towards the end of a meta, there’re tons of people around, and there’s always someone else who needs the same thing.
Are you and your team new to fractals?
IMO, in T1, that one and Mai Trinh are the most punishing when you’re not familiar with the mechanics. It becomes a lot easier when you get used to it.
In regards to the disappearing floor, there’s not much luck involved, but you need to be aware of everyone’s movement; the goal is to not only avoid falling yourself, but also avoid running in such a way that your teammates fall. E.g if you’ve got the bomb, don’t run towards your friend or strand them on an island.
You could also attune or infuse one of them, the game will treat them as different and you can equip both. Unfortunately if you want to get to T4 fractals, you’ll need both your rings to be infused and attuned, so you’ll run into the same issue.
Edit: oops, I didn’t see the 2nd part of the wiki excerpt from JustTrogdor’s post
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
If it’s the bauxite alchemical one, that does bug out fairly often.
You can try logging in and out until you get into a map where it’s not bugged. If that doesn’t work, go do something else for a few hours, the map does eventually reset.
Ah ok, I’ve learned something today.
When you first start with Engi, you are somewhat limited by the unlock mechanic. However if you’ve got 3 lvl 80s, you should also have enough tomes and /or level up scrolls to circumvent a good deal of it.
In terms of mechanic, imagine an ele with summoned weapons that are so good that you would use them as much, if not more, than your regular weapons. Their best skills are spread between several kits, so you’d want to be swapping often.
If you’re already ruling out Druid (I’m assuming that’s what you mean when you say “Drizzt”), you’d best go Engi. I think it’s a fun and frantic class.
Just be aware, if you want to be any good, you should expect a steep learning curve.
I would say most people LFGing T1 fractals are in a similar position as you are… since the change to fractal rewards (i.e. Completing a T4 gives you all the lower tier rewards too), few meta/speed groups would bother with T1. So PUGs in T1 likely won’t mind your inexperience; cos they themselves would have started fractal-ing recently too.
Have a look at http://gw2dungeons.net/
It’ll give you an idea of each fractal’s mechanic.
Who knows, you may find yourself enjoying fractals… I run T4s regularly now, and I started off doing fractals to get Mawdry too (at a time when you needed to complete 4 fractal islands to get a single Pristine relic).
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
I’d agree with Aidan’s point… stacking sigils are theoretically good, but either impractical or unnecessary in most situations.
In situations that you need every bit of DPS (i.e. high fractals, raids, arguably HoT maps) it is either difficult to max your stacks (not enough mobs), or difficult to maintain them (you get downed often).
In situations where it is easy to max and maintain your stacks (i.e open world), you don’t really need that extra DPS (killing something in 3s vs 4s)
In PvP or Wvw, if you’re able to max and maintain your stacks, you’re already on the winning side and the sigil wasn’t needed anyway.
Only niche case I can imagine is if you run a low DPS, high survival build (e.g. Nomad’s) and you need a bit more DPS.
You can buy the amulet and one of the rings from the SW vendor once you finish the LS2 story for 10g and 1000 crests.
Only the character who finished the story can buy it, but it can then be transferred to whoever you want to use it.Actually, you need to finish the meta-achievement for them to show up at the npc.
Most need the achievements completed, but Jurah’s Jewel and Verata’s Seared Ring only require a character complete “Point of No Return” and “Seeds of Truth” respectively.
Like I said, these only appear when you speak to the vendor using the character that completed those chapters, but you can just transfer it to whichever character you want to use it.
You can buy the amulet and one of the rings from the SW vendor once you finish the LS2 story for 10g and 1000 crests.
Only the character who finished the story can buy it, but it can then be transferred to whoever you want to use it.
In my mind, Anet seems to be building up 2 different story arcs with the current events updates:
- Ley-line energy involving the Priory, Consortium and Inquest in Ascalon and the Shiverpeaks.
- Unrest/uprising in Kryta involving the White Mantle bandits.
Can anyone see any way these two can be interconnected in a single story arc? I can’t.
