Try find a map that’s going for T4, prioritize the meta, and open cargos as a secondary goal. I’ve run multiple alts with starting 0-15 crowbars and ending up with 20+, while still opening a reasonable number of cargos.
TBH, as the cargos are spread out, farming them isn’t time effective anyway. The other HoT maps have containers spawn in predictable clusters. You’ll probably get equal or better rewards for your time by helping to advance the meta to get the T4 event reward.
@OP
This is a cut and paste from a post I made a while ago (so it’s addressing a similar but not identical question), hope you find it useful:
Easy points:
8 personal story
8 completing LS 2 story (not the achievements)
2 Tequalt
1 Karka Queen
1 LA exterminator
1 Dry Top skritt queen
1 for first character reaching lvl 80
That’s 22 points without doing fractals, dungeons, JPs, LS achievements, difficult bosses or rare spawns. And that’s easily enough to max out Pact Commander (19 needed).
As for Fractal Attunement, it pays for itself in terms on MP’s…11 needed, 14 available. Most of the time I get these by accident, asking the group if we could work towards it, or creating a LFG stating it was a MP run. But if you don’t do fractals, this line is useless to you and you can ignore it.
Legendary crafting is a funny one… to craft a precursor, you will need to do lots of different content (Fractals, JPs, specific champs/events, specific achievements, mini dungeons, max level crafting) If you think getting the MPs required to max this mastery out is too much, precursor crafting is more of the same but arguably much harder and definitely more expensive. As someone who has crafted Dusk, I can guarantee the MP requirement is only a mild obstacle in the grand scheme of precursor crafting. If this crafting process doesn’t appeal to you, you can ignore this mastery line too.
TLDR:
Core Tyria masteries ARE tuned to your gameplay preferences:
Pact Commander for everyone: enough easy MPs
Fractal Attunement for the fractal runners: enough MPs in fractals
Legendary Crafting: crafting process requires you to do lots of different and sometimes annoying/difficult content, thus reflected in the remaining MPs coming from all sorts of content (some of which are annoying/difficult)
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
@OP
From a game design perspective, which masteries would you make account bound vs soul bound? Also, the mastery points will need to be overhauled too: either way, way more sources of MPs be added or some need to become endlessly repeatable.
Personally I rather they not use the system you’re suggesting because in essence you’re replacing a one-time XP “grind” with a repeated XP “grind”… plus they’ll have to pull resources from other areas to change the MP system. The current system is daunting in the beginning, but is less punishing in the long term.
Yes! Let me salvage my now useless Salvage-O-Matics for gems.
Careful what you ask for… a Salvage-o-matic salvaging itself = Salvage Inception O_o
Out of interest, I just ran the AB meta on my surface, and it was surprisingly playable. Main issue was not being able to see downed players because of the low player model setting, had to rely on the name labels when reviving.
I’ve got an i5 surface pro 3 (HD 4400) and do exactly what you describe when I’m away from home. At the absolute lowest settings and resolution, it does run. Definitely not pretty though.

Weapons and armours have a guaranteed drop and the other trinkets have a very low drop chance. So at 10g a pop for Jurah’s, you might be better off crafting a cheap ascended to salvage, especially if you’ve already got a maxed crafting profession. Btw, if you’re trying for the fractal backpack, you’ll need 2 balls to craft the first tier.Jurah’s jewel don’t cost gold, only crests.

Always a good idea to double dodge over a capture point if you know a guard has been there recently.
Be patient, report and let Anet work it out… outside of the annoyance factor, it doesn’t effect you if you ignore them. The flip side is Anet going super-aggro on the gold seller and a bunch of innocents (potentially including yourself) get pinged with false positive bans.
No gear from chest when opening on low level?

I also noticed, when I opened a few champ bags and bags of rare gear on low level, I got low level rares. I do not know if there was a change to that, but I seem to remember I got level 78-80 rares with those bags even on low level characters.
That’s been the situation for a long time, but it has always been inconsistent as some bags scale to character lvl and some don’t.
I always open rare (yellow) bags with my lvl 80 as they generally have a high chance for a rare item, which I then salvage for ectos.
Are you just doing events over and over again to get the crowbars? Maybe I’m missing something that would help with getting them.
Easiest way is to participate in the VB meta. Use LFG to find an organized map, or organize one yourself. Reaching T4 is much more forgiving since the April patch.
Even if you opened every airship cargo in sight, a T4 run will give a net gain of crowbars.
Contact customer support in the top right link “services > support” and make a ticket. They generally reply within a couple of days.
Based on my experience, if they are able to help, they’ll ask you to delete the existing items, then send your new ones via the in game mail
Other MMORPGs have large ratios between durability and damage. In other games, the tank is 20 times more durable than the other classes. Here, it is only 2 times.
Also, most MMOs don’t give all their classes a large number of damage mitigation skills, so even the glass-iest (is that even a word?) build can take 2 or 3 big hits when timed correctly.
Outside of tanks and healers, support is more determined by what skills and traits you equip rather than your gear stats. Toughness/vitality are personal survival stats and don’t “support” the group. Healing power isn’t useful unless you’re the healer. Concentration is interesting but doesn’t seem powerful enough.
That, plus how powerful active defenses are (i.e. dodge/blocks/blinds mitigate 100% damage) means offensive stats will be what you want to run as you get better.
That said, you can run anything you want in open world, it’s only in small group content where your individual contribution makes any noticeable difference.
According to the wiki, the raid trinkets have Valkyrie as a selectable stat.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talisman_of_Manton
That may explain my situation… since the patch, I’ve only done the T4 dailies and none of the recommended dailies.
An old CPU can slow down your FPS, but should not cause crashes. Unless its overheating, or some part of your PC is failing.
Are you using the 64-bit client? If not, that’s your answer… switch to that and see if it helps.
I hope WP releases videos on other “niche markets” aswell.
He did a similar video about the VB flax farm, which helped bring down flax seed prices.
You get a fairly large number of keys from the daily chests. When I do the daily T4’s, I generally get around as many keys as I do encryptions, even when doing them as all 91+ fractals. It has become uncommon that I have to purchase keys anymore.
Since the fractal chests were changed, I’ve also found myself with more than enough keys from the dailies. In fact, the key-encryption balance is reversed now, usually after a T4 run I’ve got more keys than encryptions.
Anyway, even if you did buy your keys, the rng usually means you’re earning gold rather than losing it.
Unlock your masteries as Yargesh suggests. Any xp you’re currently earning is not stored, so is being wasted.
can an admin eventually contact me / check it off? I don’t want to have to do this one again, or even worse, do it again only to not have it finish the collection.
thx

Wait… seriously, just wait.
Nvidia have just announced their new generation GPUs will start arriving at the end of this month.
http://anandtech.com/show/10304/nvidia-announces-the-geforce-gtx-1080-1070
AMD probably will do follow suit soon. That’ll drive down the prices of previous gen cards and you’ll get more value for your money.
I just realized, I have The Raven Staff from trying to craft Nevermore. I haven’t finished crafting it yet, but can I just salvage the Raven Staff and then rebuy it from Hobbs (will it say I lost it?)?
I’m doubtful Hobbs replaces whole items. He seems to replace non-craftable components and recipes http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Grandmaster_Craftsman_Hobbs
If you do salvage it, you may end up needing to re-craft it and possibly the items before it too (e.g. in order to obtain Spirit of the Ravenswood Staff).

I like how this game has pigeon holed every class into one or two builds and if you don’t take those builds you die…. a lot.
snip
I have no way of getting Ascended gear, i cannot do Fractals, i have very little ascended mats, the grind is insane and my laurels are sitting on 20…
I’ll counter your first statement by saying: for the equal skill levels, the meta builds actually CAUSE you to die more because of how glassy they are. The only reason players can play those builds at all is because they learned how to dodge, block, blind and generally avoid damage. It does mean, they’ve got a smaller margin of error, especially when facing an unfamiliar foe. The initial days of HoT were littered with the corpses of zerk players… now they’ve learned their foes and continue as zerk players without much drama.
And to my own statement, I never said armor or weapons, I specifically said soldier’s trinkets because all your classes will be able to use them without restriction (as opposed to weapon types or light/medium/heavy armor):
Amulet = 20 laurels + 250 WvW tokens
Accessories x2 = 10g + 24 guild commendations
Rings x2 = 50 laurels + 500 WvW tokens
You get 55 laurels a month via the daily login rewards, so if you’ve already got 20 laurels you’re actually closer than you think to a full set of trinkets. You can easily EoTM your way to the required WvW tokens, or I believe some of the major AP achievement chests give them too.

I’m using the 32-bit client.
Change to the 64-bit, then you’ll have less need for a crash safe guard.

Just change your traits around a bit and get some ascended soldiers trinkets (advantage of ascended is you can just have 1 set and move it around your toons as required).
You still won’t survive if you charge into every fight, but it’ll give you the chance to learn each mob’s attacks and tells. Then when you’re more comfortable, you can swap those trinkets/traits for more glassy ones.
Azurem is correct. The only choice you make is whether you want your back piece to have the offensive or defensive slot.
There is no skipping of steps:
Prototype fractal capacitor (exotic) – no slots
V
Prototype fractal capacitor (ascended) – off or def slot
V
Beta fractal capacitor (infused) – off or def slot AND agony infusion slot
V
Fractal capacitor (infused) – cosmetic change only
Are you guys using the 64-bit client?
I’ve already reported this to Anet, but just a quick warning to everyone else.
I opened 2 Recovered Pale Reaver Chests on my level 57 thief, and no loot was given. The original level 80 engi that I earned them on opened 1 and got the appropriate loot.
I haven’t tried this with the chests from the other HoT maps
I’m not sure if this has been already reported, but I’ve only observed it in the last 2-3 days.
Twice now, I’ve downed an opponent and instead of falling to the ground, they are still able to run away from me despite their HP bar showing the dark red downed state colour. They were both running, not sliding across the ground. Both happened on the Forest map.
First time was a ranger. After being downed, he just ran away and into a wall… no other actions. He must have been stuck cos he asked in say chat if someone could finish him off. Eventually someone did and he respawned normally. Afterwards I had a quick chat with him… said he hit a lag spike at about that time. Also mentioned he has seen the bug too.
Second time was a necro. I was defending a point against him plus at least 1 other so I couldn’t get as good a look at what was happening, but he was running away with the downed state HP bar too. His running seemed to be more controlled, he was able to change direction. At some point in the next 1-2 minutes, he was rezzed… not sure if it was a self-rez or teammate rez (pretty sure it wasn’t a rally) and was able to continue fighting. Didn’t get a chance to ask his experience of events. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t lagging either time.

@black sun empress
If your card is running GW2 adequately, and you admit you’re upgrading for the sake of upgrading (I know the feeling ); why don’t you wait and see what the new AMD/nvidia GPUs bring to the table?
I think AMD is closer to releasing their new architecture and the rumors are very impressive.
@Cacti
Same question applies: do you have issues running other games?
Also, have you tried repairing your GW2 install?
If it effects other games/stress tests, it probably is a hardware issue. Those can be pretty hard to trouble shoot. Could be anything from heat to PSU to MB to GPU to CPU to RAM. I’ve had PSUs and RAM randomly fail on me causing really strange behaviour. You could try track it down by eliminating as many variables as possible:
Run a hardware monitor program while gaming and see if any components get abnormally hot
Remove GPU and use integrated graphics
If you have 2 or more sticks of RAM, remove one at a time
Use different RAM slots on your MB
Those are the easiest steps I can think of… after that, you may need to obtain/borrow a spare PSU, MB, etc. Or send it back to the shop.

With hindsight, adding crafting for the old legendaries was probably a mistake. From what I can deduce, it’s the collections and trying to integrate those into existing content that requires a lot of work (rather than the design/art).
After 3 years, the old legendaries aren’t as desirable as they once were, and that effort should have been used to have the full set of new legendaries with their collections at launch and leave the old legendaries as they were.

… The DPS was slower…
That was my point. Whether or not Teq always spawns whirlpools at 75%, a slow burn allows him to spawn more whirlpools during all the burns phases and give you a better chance of catching one. During my successful run, I got pulled in at the 75%, 50% and 25% phases.
Heat issues can be due to a heatsink that’s not properly seated, poor thermal compound or very poor airflow in your case.
I’m assuming you have a normal sized case, so it’s probably one of the first 2 problems. The solution for both are the same…. take off your heatsink, clean it, put new thermal compound on, and re-install. While you’re at it, if you are using the stock Intel heatsink, replace it with something better… even a cheap one like a Coolermaster 212 evo is better than the crappy stock one.
Have you tried running a different game? Preferably something that stresses your system (Or a stress test like Prime95 or Furmark)
Follows advice is the 1st fractal mastery, did you unlock that?

Chuka is a village in the district of Champawat

My guess is, whether or not it has a tiger theme, there’ll also be Indian influences.
It bugs out if a lot of players try trigger the same symbol at the same time. Easiest way around it is to have everyone just stand next to the symbol without pressing F, and just 1 person triggering.
It’s definitely not easy, it took me a bit more than a week to finally get it.
I mostly do defense at Teq, so I can’t really comment on the “always at 75%” claims. But you could try disable “Effect LOD” in your options menu… I’m not sure if the whirlpool graphic gets culled with that setting on, but I’ve found it useful in other situations e.g. seeing opponent tells during PvP.
Thanks for letting us know. Does that mean LS3 will arrive sooner than indicated at the AMA?
The wiki is very good for the individual steps, however it’s really confusing if you are trying to figure out the total amount of mats you’ll need for the precursor. I’ve found a site like https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/ better for that purpose.
GL
Since Anet have introduced a guild hall upgrade that reduces WP costs, I take that as a hint that free WPs aren’t in their foreseeable plans.
OP, if you friend is determined to do a power GS build, make sure he realizes that Necro/Reaper mobility is poor and chain CC’s = death whatever your build, so he should play with that in mind. Necro’s are even more vulnerable at the beginning of the match because they don’t have much life force to use their best survival mechanic, Shroud.
Don’t even try when it’s a guild organized map… unless they were intentionally doing low DPS (some do run no-defense just for lols), the higher level of coordination guarantees too much DPS.
Try zone into a map 5 minutes or less before spawn (or even just after spawn). You take the risk that the map doesn’t have the DPS to get Teq to 75%, but once there, you have a longer time for the whirlpools to spawn. Whirlpools also can spawn during the 50% and 25% burns if the DPS is low enough.
Is that the book you bought from Hobbs?
It should have unlocked the collection when you double-click it.
Look in your achievement panel under Collections > Legendary Weapons
There’ll be a collection called Twilight I or Sunrise I
Anet were clearly under a lot of pressure to deliver. Everyone had been asking for an expansion for years, and they finally promised it for 2015. Most of 2015 was a write-off content-wise with the expansion being the only thing of substance. Plus they had to release before the most anticipated game of the year, Fallout 4, otherwise interest would just be sucked away.
Would it be better if Anet held off and gave it more? Who knows. It sucks that commercial interests won out, but it is a balance and there are worse things that could happen to an expansion/sequel (Duke Nukem Forever, anyone?)
