Getting spirit shards right now is a matter of grinding and RNG and it’s complete nonsense when it doesn’t have to be.
Other than tomes, you also have a reliable source of spirit shards as part of your daily reward.
It’s been like that ever since the ascended breathers were introduced. I’m not sure if anet has plans to change that.
You also have a chance to get keys each time you complete a map (I think the starter zones and cities are excluded)
I don’t think you’ll get any agreement as to what success is. IRL success is measured in many ways: wealth, career, fame, respect, family, personal fulfilment.
I would like to think there’s a similarly hazy definition of success in Gw2.
Personally, no – I don’t measure my Gw2 success in either AP or fashion skins.
For those particular mobs, you should see an orange telegraph on the ground. Turning down your graphics setting can make it easier to see.
You had to literally type what you wanted your character to do and hope that it was the magic phrase. Not even the manual had the answers.
Haha… you’ve just made me recall King’s Quest… I feel old now.
If you’ve ordered the 908ti, so it’s a moot point now. If you need a card right now, there’s really no question: 980ti, because there’s no reliable stocks of any next gen card.
The 970 is still a very good card (more that enough for GW2) and I would have advised you to wait until both Nvida and AMD release their full GPU stacks (i.e. 1070ti, RX 490, 2nd gen Fury) before deciding.
You didn’t mention the resolution and quality you want to run the game, but yes, both will run the game (likely at medium settings at 1080p).
The only issue I have is the SSD… Windows will take up at least 20Gb and GW2 another 30Gb, so you won’t have much space left if you want to install other games/programs.
Can you link your intended raid build? And what role do you intend to fill? Before you start investing in expensive new gear, you should consider those questions first.
The build looks like a condi druid with lots of self-sustain, which is fine for open world. But there isn’t much group synergy, and as you realized, it was actually detrimental.
Are you part of a regular raid team, or are pugging raids? If you’re pugging, be aware most people expect you to be the support healer (unless they already have a healer)… e.g. cultivated synergy, verdant etching, GotL, frost spirit, spotter. In an organized group, you can drop some healing, but either way, ranger/druid has never been great DPS, so you’re better off gimping your own DPS for the greater good.
I’d also suggest reading/watching some raid guides to understand the mechanics, e.g:
For VG, as a ranged build, you’re likely to be asked to be part of the green circle group. In that situation your traps are pretty useless.
Look up metabattle.com, you may not want to copy a build exactly, but the authors do provide justification for their choices, so it’s still a worthwhile read.
Sorry, I wasn’t being clear. I meant what Randulf said.
http://gw2dungeons.net is a good resource.
And [KING] made a good video series covering all the fractals. Those are aimed at the highest tier, but many principles apply at lower tiers too.
https://m.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4i9h3q/king_fully_updated_guides_for_master_tier/
Finally, if you’re in a good guild, you can get someone can show you the ropes.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but personally I don’t really care what stats my teammates run in low level fractals.
As long as you have fair DPS and know the mechanics enough that you don’t hinder the rest of the team (E.g. Not stacking on the molten berserker is very annoying), the lower fractals are quite forgiving.
If you’ve waited longer than 3 days, post your ticket number at
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Tickets-for-Review-3-days-older-2
Based on my few interactions with the ticket system, I normally get a reply in 3-5 days. These were for non-urgent issues though.
Did you get it then fight the legendary bandit? I think it gets consumed when you defeat him
You also have to remember that staff DPS isn’t the only game in town anymore. Some of those are fresh air eles, which is a D/W melee build.
“Most usable” and “most effectively used” are different things. For the former, you can look at the wiki:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Weapon#Weapon_usability_by_professions
I’d personally put staff ahead of sword.

If you haven’t done the story achievements, why not try them? I found Act 1 and 3 reasonably easy to solo/cheese by following Dulfy.net. They did take a long time though.
Also, defeating Mayatl the Fierce in VB gives you a MP that isn’t listed in the achievement panel (you may need the Itzel mastery for that, I’m not sure)
Just regarding your bag situation, you can create alts and give them cheap 12 or 15 slot bags… for the time being, its your most cost effective option.
Regarding gold, do your dailies and salvage and sell the stuff you don’t want… lower tier mats sell for good prices on the TP (assuming you’re not trying to level crafting). It’s only at 80 when you can get to the more lucrative gold farms (SW, AB multi-mapping, fractals, dungeons – technically you could start sooner, but the level/gear disadvange makes them more challenging)
Actually, what you’re thinking of happened quite a months before HoT (June 2015).
Before that, you used to continue accumulating skill points, which were used for the same purposes as spirit shards are now. Then when they changed to the specialization system for traits, they split skill points into hero points (for learning skills/traits) and spirit shards (for MF recipes).
The spirit shard aquisition is actually better currently… x3 for your dailies, vs x1 every 2-3 days for gaining extra levels. It does mean exp doesn’t contribute towards anything at mastery cap.
I’ve been caught out by this too.
It should be reported as a bug, if only to get the wording clarified.
Nope, ascended weapons and armors only.
You can’t buy crafted Marauder stats on TP, they are account bound items. Berserker’s can be easily obtained from stat-selectable exotics, like Bladed armors from VB, or buying karma armor from Orr.

(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
I found that HoT pushed me towards more dps focused gear and less survivable gear. Make sure your gears is exotic is my first piece of advice, second I would suggest playing around with builds as things that worked for me in central failed hard in HoT and try out different weapon combos that you can get to work well.
Don’t forget that if you feel your armour is right but you are still a bit off look around to fine tuning it with the right type of runes.
Good luck xD
Don’t forget food buffs… I’ve found Pact Rations a cheap and convenient survival buff for my glass toons.
- there would be enough hero points in central Tyria to complete the elite specialization for a character
or
-the hero challenges in Heart of Thorns areas would be possible for most players to do without a group
True, there aren’t enough HPs in Tyria for a full elite specialization unlock, but if you did every single one, you’d have ~200, which means you only need ~5 HoT HPs to complete it. If you look at the guide linked above (or the Dulfy guides), you’d easily find 5 solo-able ones.
Honestly though, after getting the elite specs for 7 different characters using several methods (HoT HPs, Tyrian HPs and WvW proofs), I personally find the HoT HPs the quickest, especially after looking at Dulfy’s guides and getting familiar with the maps. You’ll sometimes run into a HPs train (AB seems most frequent) which speeds up your progress immensely. My most recent toon started with 0 Tyrian HPs and only took 2-3 days of moderate play.
Nothing anyone in the forums can do, only CS can help you. Create a ticket at the link in the top right “Services – >Support”. Give them as many details as you can; character name, time and date, etc.
I’d cruise around searching for horses to hit.
That’d be a very long cruise, I haven’t seen a single horse in Tyria yet
Welcome to Gw2.
GW2 pvp generally is not affected by anything you do on the pve side.
1. Any level will do, you get up levelled to max with all traits unlocked, including elites if you have Hot.
2. You don’t “obtain” Pvp gear. When you’re in the Pvp lobby, there a new menu option which opens your Pvp build windows. Choose your amulet, sigils and runes. Only exceptions are certain ones need to be unlocked with gold. Your Pve gear only affects your cosmetic appearance in Pvp.
3. Yes. See the answers above.
If you have any more specific questions, it’s probably more appropriate asking in the pvp forum.
I don’t want cash shop items for free.
I just don’t think $15 for 3 bag slots or nearly $10 for a single bank slot is reasonable.
I spent $50 on the cash shop last month. I am a supporter of buying things for real money and help anet fund the game.
And you’re completely right. You don’t think it’s worth that much.
But Anet obviously does, and they are within their rights to charge what they feel thier product is worth. If you run your own business, you’ll know that always agreeing to low-ball offers isn’t the best way to prosper.
Obviously they benefit from a high gold to gem exchange rate, but remember, for a game that relies on microtransactions for ongoing revenue, they took quite a big risk in terms of commercial viability by even allowing a gold to gem exchange. We applauded them in 2012 for this, and I don’t see how the situation is any different now.
It probably will, but dungeon dailies aren’t that frequent.

Levelling is quite fast, levelling to 80 can be as quick a 1 week. So you shouldn’t be disadvantaged for very long.
@OP
Regarding your social comment:
When did you stop playing WoW?
I stopped in 2005, and I agree I had a much better social network then. I think the reason we found the game more social then was because you could not do any end game without a guild. The MC attunement quest was impossible without a friend. And you had to get along with them because you’d spend hundreds of hours with them raiding.
I think if either of us returned to WoW now, we’d find a much different experience. From reading the criticisms, LFR and garrisons have removed a lot of that social interaction in favour of quality of life.
I think we’ve experiencing a shift in MMO design, both to appeal to a wider audience, and also the original audience growing up and not being able to dedicate 5+ hours at a time.
Lyssa and leadership runes have condi cleansing 6th bonuses if that that’s what you’re after.
And there are quite a few sigils that clear/transfer conditions too.
I can’t see anything in the requirements that will prevent you from getting the leggings. If you want to be sure, you can try contact CS and see if they can advise.
I believe you can. I didn’t, but I’ve noticed LW2 is the only story journal section that a character (that hasn’t done it before) can select the chapters out of order (personal and Hot story can only be done sequentially)
It does mean the story makes less sense because you’re missing prior chapters. And if you eventually intend to get all the LW2 chapters, it’s cheaper buying the whole lot at once.
Several sites will tell you the cost. I personally like https://gw2efficiency.com/ because if you set up your api key, it’ll actually take into account what you already have in your bank.
Also, you can complete the ley stone armor collection fairly easily for an ascended armor chest (use it for your coat, as that’s the most expensive piece)
You don’t need to get gold for every adventure to max masteries out. And not all golds are difficult… some golds are really easy.

A slubling please
Since you say you like all the classes and your aim is raids, I’d say mesmer, with the ultimate goal of becoming a chrono tank.
I’ve used a corsair m90 for the last 5 years. Software isn’t the most user friendly, but the build quality is solid as you’d expect from a slab of aluminium. Would love to try the roccat nyth if it weren’t so expensive.
That’s right. You do realise the MF zerk backpacks will cost 200g+ in mats, right? If you’re going down that route, maybe get the one with the offensive infusion slot, it’ll let you put a power infusion later on.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Quiver_of_Swift_Flight
TBH, I’d recommend taking the time to learn fractals. You’ll come out ahead in the long term.
Btw, those zerk backpacks are pretty poor stat upgrades for thier cost. If you haven’t got ascended trinkets and weapons, you should consider those first.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
The mystic forge does that sometimes, esp if you’re clicking rapidly. Have fun with your new toy.
That’s strange, you’ve got the right ingredients. Post a screenshot if you can.
“E” needs to return.
:)
If you’re asking if you get LS2 unlocked for free when LS3 is released; unlikely.
You can play the story if a party member opens the instance, but achievements are only available with the gem store purchase.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
Ascended amulets, rings, accessories and back pieces can’t be converted.
2 collections actually, the 1st is easy:
Crusader’s pack – complete HoT story with whichever character choose the initial rare pack in “Prisoner’s of the Dragon” + HoT map currencies. (You should use the character you’re most proficient in because some people struggle in the final battle)
The 2nd is more challenging:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Warmaster's_Pack_%28achievement%29
Main road blocks are finishing the HoT story chapter I achievements and buying all the Vigil armor and weapon skins (~105g). There are some mastery gated collection items too. The other 2 order packs follow a similar pattern (Lightbringer’s and Magister’s).
If you don’t feel up to all that, the mystic forge recipes are “only” 20-100g more expensive depending on what stats you want.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
Anet, whatever the final name is, I hope you introduce it in a non-cliche and contextually appropriate manner. Last thing I want to see is Queen Jennah saying “I bestow upon your group the title: blah blah”, and everyone raises their swords and cheers.
Personally, I’ve always been partial towards titles/names that were originally used as an insult by the enemy, but then adopted as a mark of pride: e.g. The Rats of Tobruk
Technically, by right clicking and unlocking the skin, you account bind the item and get it credited to your collection. It only gets soul bound when a character equips it.
You need to account bind items to have them count towards any collection. Your courage is currently unbound.
Dragonvine Strap which character to use?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: onevstheworld.2419
Do you still have the Novice’s pack (the rare quality one)? That’ll be soulbound to the character you’re looking for.
Otherwise, yes, it’s annoying and the collection would cause less confusion if it were an account wide collection.
Btw, don’t put any valuable sigils or infusions on your current weapons. The mystic forge resets the item to a vanilla ascended skin and destroys any upgrades.
