You can do it without any assistance or special builds. I’ve completed it with multiple toons, in zerk or sinister builds. It has very tight timings, so you do need to get it just right. Usually I’d have to try at least a dozen times before I get it. And I typically have less than a second, maybe even less than 0.5s to spare. My ping is 200-300.
Once you get adrenal mushrooms it becomes laughably easy… there’s a mushroom right next to you than recharges the heal to full.
Given the recent history and business practices of all the major AAA developers, I would go so far to say noone should ever pre-order ANY game. Buy it when someone reputable has reviewed it first.
Don’t give them your money, and the permission to give you a crappy game.

It’s probably the other way around. GW2 advertise itself as this really casual game. Developer even come out with some kind of PR excuse why not having raid is a good idea before the game is out.
I guess Anet realize players get through content too quickly.
That’s an interesting point. Wildstar for example came from the complete opposite extreme… they boasted a very challenging end-game, but when the numbers didn’t pan out, they had to tone things down (and make it F2P). Even WoW has had to make concessions for their more casual players.
Guess it goes to show that in the modern MMO business, you can’t cater for just one extreme of the player base.
Getting back to the OP: so you won’t be getting Legendary Armor. I’m not sure why anyone thought that legendary armor would be something that the majority of people could get by so-called casual play. Heck, even making the gen 1 legendary weapons require time, patience, and some level of organization on the player’s part.
But it’s attainable solo you muppet.
I understand your frustration with the game, but calling everyone muppet doesn’t exactly paint you in a very good light. Despite it being the internet norm, anonymity isn’t a licence to be rude.
Please refer my post to Santa in this thread:

:)
What I’d like to see is solo/PvE only content that cannot be done by more than 1 or 2 ppl at most. That would even up the orgytastic multimonkeys. See what I did there boyz n girlz? BOOM!
That would have to be instanced content then. If this were open world, these would be finished so quickly that most people would have to camp the location to have a realistic chance to complete it. Vizer’s tower for the dusk collection is a case in point.
If you’re looking for a hp train, AB is your best bet. It’s flat enough that people regularly do running trains, so no wp needed. VB and TD are more difficult for new players to get around so trains are less efficient, easier to just ask map chat. And DS hp are mostly gated behind successful meta completion.
The dulfy.net guides are really useful, esp the hard to get to, but easy to solo hps.
Sometimes the party system bugs out… instead of right-clicking, try use the /join command. That mostly gets around the issue for me.
Edit: Also, even if you’re not in a party, try use /leave command before trying to party up again
It’s always daunting for new players entering any established MMO, so you’re not alone. Everyone who’s currently decked out in ascended and legendaries went through that at some stage.
If anything, GW2’s community is one of the most helpful… there’s usually someone on map chat who’s happy to help. Find a guild that suits you, they’re a pretty good resource too.
Btw, in PvP, everyone is upscaled and all equipment stats are equal (PvE stats don’t count here), so the main hurdle is skill and knowing your own and your opponet’s class strengths/weaknesses.
Maybe one of the recent patches bugged and made it possible to open that chest.
Can they be salvaged or mystic forged? Or you could keep the items and be the proud owner of some of the most exclusive/unobtainable items in the game
One particular design decision in GW2 is that you can START your raiding career with your character already having a full set of best-in-slot equipment. Most other MMOs require you to actually finish raids to get best-in-slot
Btw:
Ascended = best in slot
Legendary = most expensive in slotpeople probably kick you for having the wrong class or build. so 1 set might not be enough.
Let me rephrase that then:
“One particular design decision in GW2 is that you can START your raiding career with your character already having MULTIPLE full sets of best-in-slot equipment. Most other MMOs require you to actually finish raids to get best-in-slot”
Actually, there was a bug at one point where you could dye it. When armor was completely broken, using the dye system would change your underwear colour in the preview window… I don’t think it changed in-game colour though.
Not sure if that bug still exists, but clearly the technology does exist (even though it’s in bug form).

Just remove your chest and pants, hide your head, shoulders, gloves and back, and buy the invisible shoes. You’ll still survive most of core Tyria :P
According to the wiki, you shouldn’t have been able to even open them anymore, so maybe you being unable to equip the items is a related issue.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Achievement_Rewards
(Look at the “Notes” section at the bottom)
As to the PvP locker… that feature is long gone. It’s been merged into the wardrobe system.
Btw, how did you get a PvP achievement reward without PvPing?
Completely RNG… between the start of HoT (Oct) and January I received nothing, then in Feb I got 3 chests from fractals and 1 from Teq in a 2 week period.
The mouse-over description will tell you what type of experience it will boost.
Have a look at the wiki… for most game mechanic questions it has a lot of good info that is more detailed than what people can write in a post

If you read the reddit thread, Chris Cleary posted that he thought it was an error too.
But if it is dodgy, now that Anet has caught wind of it, expect to see another naked body falling through DR

If you look on Efficiency, almost all that 5 mil is in characters value… only 200K is in liquid gold (That account is still 1st in liquid gold value, but not that far ahead of 2nd place… as a comparison, for account value the 2nd place is only 300K).
I can’t find how Efficiency defines “character value” and “liquid gold”. My guess is “liquid gold” means all his available gold plus the TP value of all items that aren’t soul or account bound. “Character value” then would be weapons, armor, dyes, skins, minis, etc, some of which can be sold, but mostly are soul/account bound. I’m not sure if other currencies are taken into account e.g. karma, dungeon tokens, etc.
Anyway, if how I understand Efficiency is true, it wouldn’t make sense if he were a gold seller as the liquid gold portion should make up the majority the account’s value. It could very well be a bug with Efficiency, or Anet’s API.
Actually, 50 is the only fractal you need to be able to purchase the crate. You don’t need to complete 1-49.
Both kits are also uncommon drops from black lion chests. You can get the keys by doing personal story, pvp or lucky drops if you don’t want to use gems.
Otherwise, buy gems with gold like the others have said.
Fluffball is right about pvp. Celestial stats were removed from pvp to discourage bunker builds, so celestial builds are now only available in pve and wvw
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Not-Enough-Tyria-Mastery-Points-Sources/6017267
There are plenty of easy achievements to earn MPs to max out the Pact commander mastery line… just don’t waste them on the Fractal or Legendary crafting masteries unless you’re sure you want/need them.
Farm SW for chests and bags, then open them on a level 50-55 alt. That’ll net items that can be salvaged for linen and the equivalent leather, wood and metal too.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
I would suggest going Chrono… the HoT mobs are more difficult, and the navigating the new maps is a struggle until you get familiar with them and unlock a few of travel-related masteries.
It’s easier doing all that on a class you’re experienced with rather than trying to learn a new class at the same time.
I wouldn’t factor cost into the equation. Honestly if your worried about cost, I would only do the precursor thing on the new leg weapons, as the old ones, its cheaper to outright buy the pre. I find I just like a weapon and after eventually looking at the skin long enough I decide to make it.
Not true for many of them.
It does depend on whether you craft/farm/buy orders your mats, it gets more expensive the more you buy outright from the TP. OP sounds like the patient type, so crafting will make sense for some of the precursors. The sites above will give you an idea which method is best for a particular precursor.
Also, be aware that some require you to play other game types, PvP and WvW for the shards of glory and memories of battle (but these can be bought from the TP), and fractals for many collection items and sometimes account bound drops (the mist essence in the case of Dusk)
It’s because your usb drive is formatted in FAT32.
Your budget is pretty generous… I made this without going near it (even with a new GPU):
http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/K3vQFT
I’m assuming your monitor is 1080p and not 1440p or 4K. Also assumed you’re not overclocking.
As to your existing GPU, it’s hard to say if you’ll hit ultra… high maybe (It definitely will play the game though). Since your budget can accommodate a new GPU anyway, why not get everything except the GPU and give your old one a try. If you’re still not happy, go ahead and get a new GPU… you haven’t lost anything
Later on this year, AMD and nVidia are due to announce/release their new generation GPUs, so at the very least, the current gen GPUs will get a bit of a discount.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
I won’t buy the stones or the black lion salvage kit… you’ll eventually get enough of those from the login rewards. As for the keys, depends how lucky you feel… if you do, best get them when they are on sale.
Otherwise:
Extra character slot – if you use it as a storage toon its one of the cheapest ways of increasing your storage.
Watchwork mining pick – give you sprockets that you can sell
Cooper-fed – nice convenience
Shared inventory slot – another convenience, but best paired with other conveniences (copper-fed, airship pass, etc)
The recent AMA with Mike and the part of that discussion regarding changing the current “Swamp of the Mists” situation that fractal dailies are currently in got me thinking and I would like to offer a suggestion how it can be changed.
I am leaving “Daily recommended fractal – Scale x” out of this discussion, and only be making suggestions regarding the “Daily fractal Adept/Veteran/Champion” chests.
- For each difficulty tier, have 4 random fractal dailies, e.g. “Daily Champion fractal scale 66, 70, 75, 93”
- After finishing each fractal of these 4 fractals, you earn a tier-specific token. Thus you can earn up to 4 tokens per day.
- You then convert these tokens into your reward chest at a exchange rate of 3 tokens per chest.
This would mean:
Players who play the current minimum 3 fractals still get a chest daily
Players who play all 4 fractals will get slightly more rewards for their play time (2 and 1/3 extra chests a week)
Players who play 1-2 fractals a day will still get their chest eventually (as opposed to nothing currently)
You then incentivize fractals other than swamp without going back to the old “4 random fractal” system, allows higher rewards for players who play more, but not penalize players who can’t complete the minimum daily fractals.
Suggestions/improvements welcome
Just a quick heads up regarding direct vs condi damage:
Direct/Power
Pros:
Front loaded damage – kills mobs quicker.
Cons:
Need to keep attacking to deal damage, once you dodge/run and stop attacking, your damage stops.
Requires 3 stats to be effective: power, precision and ferocity, so sacrifices durability.
Condi
Pros:
No need to keep attacking to deal damage… once the condition is applied you can run/dodge and that damage will continue to tick away for its full duration (PvE mobs rarely cleanse)
Only needs 1 stat: Condition Damage to be effective, so you can take Toughness and/or Vitality without sacrificing too much DPS.
Cons:
Back loaded damage – takes longer to kill mobs.
Given a ranged pet class is what you’re looking for, I would say power ranger, or condi necro. Just as an example of both classes (I’ve deliberately tuned them to be defensive):
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQNBjOD7kSFokFsWQwhFgrFMsHU7tHAn93Bl7yzC4RIFkUq0XB-TxRDwAJUC2T53x9HgrZAkOAYq/Aw8HA-e

Also, have a look through the combat/movement section of the options menu. Some setting may help make combat more fluid for you. e.g. “Snap ground target to current target”
If PvP is your thing, you can also earn the tokens with the AC rewards track. I started playing PvP last season to get the AC tokens to craft Twilight, and despite an ego-bruising start, I ended up quite enjoying it. The new PvP season has encouraged a lot of inexperienced PvP players to try it out, so now that I’m familiar with it, I found the lower tiers are quite easy to advance (I play condi reaper and honed my skills taking on DS eles, so I’m in a good spot in the current meta, which will probably change next season)
There are runes (hoelbrak, melandru, resistance, antitoxin, sunless) if that’s what you mean.
If not, direct vs condi damage are philosophically apples and oranges anyway, so discussing damage mitigation follows the same theme.

Have you tried the 64 bit client? Despite its beta label, it has worked for many people, including myself
Other classes do have minions, but they tend to be temporary summons with long cooldowns, so somewhat annoying.
My recommendation would be condi non-reaper Necro. The rationale for that is condi allows you to stack your conditions then move if required without losing too much dps. A power build would only cause damage while you are engaged. You can also take vitality or toughness without nerfing your dps too much. Necro because it is more versatile ranged condi than ranger, a good deal of ranger condi skills are not ranged (traps, torch 5). Non-reaper because normal shroud is ranged but reaper shroud is melee.
I know I’m making quite a lot of assumptions about your abilities, I apologise if I took it too far.
I don’t think I’d recommend revenant, or any non-minion/pet class for HoT content. Most require a fair amount of dodging and kiting to survive when solo, so without something to take aggro, the experience will likely be frustrating
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
I believe SweetFX or ReShade may be able to do what you are asking for. Unfortunately, I’ve never made customs settings before, so I can’t really help you there… maybe their forums will have some help.
Try zone into the map at spawn time, or even 2-3 minutes after spawn. You do take the risk that the map doesn’t have the DPS to even get Teq to the 1st battery phase, but any map that has more than 5 minutes to organize will have too much DPS for the vortexes to spawn in a consistent manner.
Downed state combat has a surprising amount of depth for a situation where you only have 4 skills (and for most classes, no movement ability).
Most obvious in PvP… it can make a huge difference if you choose to attack or heal, and if and when to use your 2 and 3 skills. In a close match, it is the difference between getting stomped, or a teammate being able to revive or rally you. It also forces your opponent to make a tactical choice… quick stomp (but makes them vulnerable to your teammates) vs slowly cleaving you down. Remember, when you revive/rally, you have about half your HP and almost all your cooldowns available… a huge game changer in a close match.
dace makes a good point… a 390 is a very power hungry GPU. You’ll generally need a 600W or more PSU. Even a 380 requires a fair amount of power… my old 420W PSU could not handle a 280X.
I don’t want to be an alarmist but I would be careful just ramming any GPU into your Mobo unless you know specifically which Asus pro broad it is.theirs about 16 different ones and some support both Nvidia and AMD but some are AMD specific. You may have some trouble with driver support swapping GPUs.I found this out over alot of aggrevation once before.
That doesn’t make sense for modern mobos… how long ago did this happen? Unless it was a design/BIOS bug, manufacturers don’t discriminate in terms of single GPU compatibility.
The main nvidia vs AMD issue with modern mobos is multi-GPU support. Some only support SLI only, others Crossfire, and some support both.
That’s your answer then. AR from tears don’t stack
Do you have other sources of AR? It’s description states it doesn’t stack
A Necro minion master is another alternative you can try. Same principle as the ranger.
Otherwise, here are other possible alternative controllers that may be useful to consider:
Razer orbweaver or Tartarus
Stinky foot board http://stinkyboard.com/
Voice attack http://www.voiceattack.com/
Don’t even try getting into the story if you’re going from Zhaitan straight to HoT. You’re missing 8 chapters that fall between. If you have access to Living World season 2, you should play that first.
The proper order to experience the story can be found in the Story Journal that’s found on the hero tab.
Doing the story in order is only important if you value the story integrity. Technically, he has also missed LS1. I suggested HoT story as an efficient way to get into the swing of HoT.
That said, I only killed Zaithan after I had defeated Mordremoth, so that shows where my values lie :P
Try play through some of the HoT story… it’s not hard and it does an OK job of guiding you through the map and is a lot better than going off in a random direction. It’s also an easy source of HoT XP and mastery points, which will let you unlock abilities that make traveling through the jungle easier (e.g. gliding, mushrooms, etc)
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
Another interesting discussion is to reverse Nao’s question: “Why couldn’t they make HoT masteries just like Core?”
Imagine reversing the MP acquisition methods of the two regions. My opinion is that it would make Tyrian masteries trivially easy, and make HoT masteries unnecessarily difficult.
Which brings me to my next point… I think the Anet designers did put a fair amount of thought into the mastery system, at least in terms of MP acquisition. A braindead designer would just use the same acquisition method for both regions. At least it shows that they are trying to get the game into a difficulty sweet spot… not too hot and not too cold. Remember, making GW2 into “Press F Simulator 2016” is just as damaging to player interest/morale as “Dark Souls: Tyria Edition”.
If there are any devs able to comment, I’d love to hear their thoughts regarding the discussion we’ve been having hint hint
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
As for the progression to XP’s part of your question: Anet probably wanted a more interesting progression system that did not segment the player base. The last thing they want is non-HoT players not being able to play with the HoT players because they have a level cap that is 10 higher.
Plus, XP has been done to death since the birth of the pen and paper RPG, it’s nice to have a different way of approaching progression.
