I like VB for map complete too… even with the champ HPs, there’s usually other players willing to help during prime time.
Looks like a bug… collection should automatically unlock when the shield is in your possession.
You forget to mention the new maps… love them or not, you have to admit they are some of the most interesting map designs in any game. I won’t be surprised if a good deal of dev resources went into those.
Another option would be to make a lot more whirlpools spawn (regardless of DPS) as Teq goes jumping off at the start of each battery phase… would make for a more interesting fight too, as a larger part of the zerg would get sucked in and need to swim their way out in order to defend the batteries.
Not sure if you realize this, but lay line tools are made by 400 weaponsmiths, not 500; so you could encourage (or even give material assistance) some guildies to level it up so you’re not reliant on just a few players.
AMD and nvidia should be releasing new GPUs later this year, so if you can, hold off and you’ll either have a new architecture or get the current gen for cheaper.
Rumors:

You use it if you don’t have a credit card, or as a gift for a friend. Some countries also get a more favorable amount of gems depending on the exchange rate at the time.
It’s not a bug.
It’s Anet’s way of saying “Get a shave, hipsters”
;)
Welcome.
Regarding pvp, your character is up-scaled to lvl 80 and you get all abilities/traits/specializations. Weapon and armor stats are also equalized. So the only thing separating you from your opponent is skill. You change your build in the pvp build panel (middle top of screen) when you are in the pvp lobby.
Wvw also up-scales you, but still uses your pve gear and abilities/traits. So you’re still at a disadvantage until you get to level 80 and get some decent gear.

Both AMD and nvidia will be releasing new gpus later this year, so if you can wait, you’ll either get a more modern one or the current generation at a cheaper price.
Key binds may help, but I personally like the ergonomics plus being able to use my thumb for more than just jump. You can also have your hands much closer together which I prefer (similar but even more compact than a tenkeyless keyboard)

I can’t see anything wrong with that as a forum post.
You probably should make it clear that they will have to commit several hours and bring thier own foods and buffs. No point making your group only to have a couple quit after several wipes.
OP’s 1st ever post was only 4 days ago, so I assume it’s still early days
If you’re in a squad, just right click someone and “join in xxx”, assuming the instance isn’t full.
I used to have Razer’s version of the Nostromo… my copy had stiff, sticky keys and a mushy D-pad. That’s why I upgraded to the mechnical Orbweaver. I’ve never tried the Tartarus (Razer Nostromo’s replacement) so I can’t say if Razer has fixed those issues.
AFAIK, assassin’s is not available for amulets or rings (with the exception of certain stat-selectable ones)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_trinket
You can buy assassin’s accessories from laurel vendors, but only after you earn your 1st copy from the dungeon collection.
OP, I get your point about trading/commerce being an important part of the game, but I do question how important it is relative to other systems for a new player.
Things a new player needs to learn or do (in no particular order):
Leveling
Movement mechanics
Combat mechanics
Class mechanics
Crafting mechanics
Exploration
Item mechanics
UI
Social interactions
Economy and TP
Story line
Game types
General sight-seeing
The game gives you plenty of equipment from levelling and doing story missions, and seeing how unimportant stats are at the beginning of the game, giving a brand new player money or equipment is much less helpful than helping kill a vet, or even just advice. Realistically, by the time you’re in a position to give meaningful items to another player, most if not all your restrictions will be gone.
As someone who’s been in the game since 2012, what the devs have done to maintain a stable game economy has been very good. Not just gold sellers, but other aspects as well. Gold as a currency still has value 3+ years after launch. Compare this to WoW, where 100G is mere pocket change, or even GW1, where ectos became the main game currency.
I encourage you to question the rules/systems/mechanics, that’s a very good way to learn and give feedback. But don’t outright reject them based on your experiences outside GW2. Most responders to this thread have years of GW2 experience and defend the system because we have seen that it has worked.

That logitech board is actually quite hard to find in some countries. I went with the razer orbweaver, and use it for almost all my games now.
Most glider skins are limited time items, so if it’s not in the gem shop, you’ve probably missed it. They’ll come back some time, most items eventually do.
I know it sounds like a broken record now, but have you tried the 64 bit client?
Anet have already said they are looking into it. Remember, it took months to phase in the system so it’s not something that can be fixed in a couple of days. The fact the it works well in core Tyria but is such a mess in HoT is a bit of a mystery to me. I assume there’s something different with the two map types that has broke the system in HoT.
Anyway, trying to fix the system can just as easily make things worse, so I’d rather Anet take their time and do it properly. Lfg and taxiing is not perfect, but it’s workable.
I don’t have all hero points in reaper yet, so haven’t really learned to play with reaper elsewhere.
Am i losing compatibility too much, if i’m not reaper?
Personally, I do think you are short changing yourself by not using reaper. It’s the reason there are so many necros in PvP.
As condi reaper, you’d still be using staff + scepter/X, but your F1 changes into a melee shroud instead of ranged, which does take a bit of getting used to. Trait-wise, Deathly Chill is one of the best… it makes chill cause damage in addition to it’s usual slow + skill recharge slowing effects. And reapers get lots of chills.
Which traitline would you have him trade out for reaper?
Death Magic easily.
Yeah that would be an overall improvement on this particular build.
My thoughts exactly
i rather that I don’t have to raid to have vipers ascended trinkets in wvw. That’s the bigger issue. It’s a pvp stat thats being obnoxiously gated behind pve.
Isn’t trailblazer’s a better WvW stat? It’s been a while since I WvWed (but I PvP a lot), and I always thought defensive stats were more important there.

Look on the wiki, under “limitations”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mail
That really is the nature of open world events.
Why not try dungeons and fractals? Small group content will have less visual spam, be less taxing on your system, and avoid the mass zerg chaos you describe.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
I assume you mean Tomes of Knowledge. Like the mouse-over description says, use them with a level 80 and you’ll get a spirit shard.
Why aren’t you using reaper? I assume you have HoT if you bought the game 3 months ago. The traits and shouts are pretty good in PvP.
If you’re using staff, you should consider trying Soul Marks from the Soul Reaping line. It’ll help build your life force and bypass those pesky blocking guards/revs.
If your guild already is running fractals, why not just join them? Some would certainly be running the under-20 fractals for the daily chest, and you don’t need anything ascended or AR-containing to do those. If a 20 fractal is part of that day’s rotation, just buy a AR potion (you need the first fractal mastery for that, ~600k XP + 1MP)
Btw, why do you even need the Mist essence? The only non-fractal application I can name off the top of my head is for certain precursor collections, and those have multiple other fractal requirements anyway. Anyway, they are a rare drop from all the low level fractals, so you don’t really need any AR to farm them.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
If you don’t have the time to level all the different classes, just go to the sPvP lobby. You’ll be up-scaled to max level and be able to use all the skills and traits. There are also training opponents that you can fight.
If you go purely scepter, the direct damage is so low that power isn’t that important. But viper’s is more useful depending on the build and how you use shroud.
OP, if you find trailblazer’s not suitable, you can always change the stats with the mystic forge.

Giver’s weapons and armours still give boon and condition duration. And for a long time, they were the only equipment source of these stats. Unfortunately they have no ascended counter parts.
Unfortunately he’s right. Unless you want to be the tank, toughness messes up aggro in some (not all) of the encounters. Vitality is the better survival stat, especially since it increases your life force pool too.
And I agree with Leezy regarding the staff, it’s more a utility weapon.
I hate to tell you this, but to construct finite result, you’ll need a 2nd ball.
Thankfully all the balls for subsequent tiers can be obtained by salvaging the previous tier’s back piece.

A permanent ban is a sign of a serious infringement; judicious use of exploits, botting or gold buying/selling are the usual reasons to get a perma ban.
If you max out the XP for Pact Commander, you can switch to Fractals and/or Legendary crafting and continue filling those bars with XP… even if you don’t intend to spend MPs on them, it’ll at least be ready if you change your mind later. Once you’ve found enough MPs, you can just switch back to Pact Commander… your XP bar will still be filled and you can spend your MPs.
In terms of earning new MPs, I’m going to be lazy and copy/paste one of my old posts… so not every point is relevant to you. If you look in your achievement panel, any category with a red star contains a MP achievement that you haven’t earned yet.
Easy points:
8 personal story
8 completing LS 2 story (not the achievements)
2 Tequalt
1 Karka Queen
1 LA exterminator
1 Dry Top skritt queen
1 for first character reaching lvl 80That’s 22 points without doing fractals, dungeons, JPs, LS achievements, difficult bosses or rare spawns. And that’s easily enough to max out Pact Commander (19 needed).
As for Fractal Attunement, it pays for itself in terms on MP’s…11 needed, 14 available. Most of the time I get these by accident, asking the group if we could work towards it, or creating a LFG stating it was a MP run. But if you don’t do fractals, this line is useless to you and you can ignore it.
Legendary crafting is a funny one… to craft a precursor, you will need to do lots of different content (Fractals, JPs, specific champs/events, specific achievements, mini dungeons, max level crafting) If you think getting the MPs required to max this mastery out is too much, precursor crafting is more of the same but arguably much harder and definitely more expensive. As someone who has crafted Dusk, I can guarantee the MP requirement is only a mild obstacle in the grand scheme of precursor crafting. If this crafting process doesn’t appeal to you, you can ignore this mastery line too.
TLDR:
Core Tyria masteries ARE tuned to your gameplay preferences:
Pact Commander for everyone: enough easy MPs
Fractal Attunement for the fractal runners: enough MPs in fractals
Legendary Crafting: crafting process requires you to do lots of different and sometimes annoying/difficult content, thus reflected in the remaining MPs coming from all sorts of content (some of which are annoying/difficult)
With the right coordination it’s actually pretty easy to break him… the main problem is a lot of players still don’t understand how the encounter works. The primary breaking mechanics are using the glider bombs (which needs a coordinated zerg) and mortar 1 skill.
Breaking shatt doesn’t actually slow the encounter down significantly. It makes him vulnerable so you can make up the damage once he’s broken. If the commander doesn’t know the timings well, then people will be sitting on the launch pads needlessly. But, the main mechanic that makes for a slow fight is not breaking the healing crystals quickly enough… he heals up pretty quickly. You can do your bit by reminding everyone to bring their CCs before the fight starts.
More healing = longer fight = more breakbar phases = more chances to fail = no achievement
I’ve done this encounter about a dozen times with my guild, and since the the breakbar mechanic was fixed, he is always been defeated after just 2 breakbars and 1 healing crystal phase.

Have a look at HiggsBoson’s guide on the matter, its the best I’ve seen thus far:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Guide-Adventures-Silver-Gold-and-beyond/5923849
http://gw2dungeons.net/
That’ll give you some idea what to expect in fractals
Events can bug out for any of the precursor collections, but you can usually zone into a different instance where that specific event isn’t bugged, or failing that, the maps do eventually reset. (e.g. the bauxite alchemicals event bugged out on me 2 or 3 times when trying to craft Dusk, but eventually I found a working event)
I don’t have any personal experience with Dawn, so I can’t say which events are more prone to bugging.
OP, have you tried going into each map and looking for a heart/HP/vista/POI that is incomplete?
My hunch is you’re missing a heart, because it has a slightly different behavior to the others. Whereas everything else will have their icon revealed when you “un-fog” its particular area within the map, heart icons only get revealed if you enter its zone (the area where you can complete its objectives) or talk the the scout associated with it. I’ve had several instances where I had sworn I finished a zone only to find a random heart that I didn’t discover.
Do you have real proof of botting?
If you’re playing ranked, it sounds like you are on the receiving of the MMR system… look in the PvP forums, plenty of players have worse losing streaks then you.
Edit: If you suspect botting/exploits, its better to use the in-game reporting system, or the exploit email – you’ll be able to give Anet more useful details.

Another thing you won’t get is access to the Orders (Vigil, Whispers, Priory), which means you can’t get the weapon and armor skins they offer.
But essentially, yes… personal story is easily ignored without any real consequence, esp if you don’t have HoT
There are some quite substantial rewards that you’d miss out:
Completing story chapters are one of the easiest sources of mastery points, both in Tyria and HoT.
There are ascended trinkets with stats that you can only earn by finishing story achievements (Living story 2 and HoT).
In fact, the whole HoT zones and mastery system is gated behind completing the 1st HoT story instance (you can use a guild hall to get into the map, but the mastery is still locked)
Edit: Oops, wrote this before realizing you didn’t have HoT. The only thing I said that would apply to you would be the trinkets from LS2 then.
Malediktus,
You’re crazy… but I salute you anyway

Participation % doesn’t directly level up masteries any quicker… it just means you get better rewards when the meta event ends… these rewards include more xp (I think), so it’s still worthwhile. (AFAIK, anything above 100% doesn’t give you better rewards… it just gives a buffer for participation degradation)
In terms of leveling masteries… load yourself up with xp bonus buffs, my reply to one of your previous posts has a link to what you need.
You do realize staff Ele as a ranged class out-DPSes most melee classes? Aside from the number of skills attunements give, conjured weapons is something you could consider if you needed flexibility.
Btw, in addition to what others have said about weapon swap sigils… using/dropping conjured weapons also trigger those sigils.
WvW server-wide rewards perhaps?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Power_of_the_Mists
Once you get adrenal mushrooms it becomes laughably easy… there’s a mushroom right next to you than recharges the heal to full.
Right, and that’s how it’s intended to work, it’s meant to be a specific reward for unlocking adrenal mushrooms.
No… my point was mushrooms make is a lot easier (2-3s buffer, instead of <1s). I still completed the HP with 6 other toons before I got my adrenal mushrooms. It wasn’t easy… like I said, at least a dozen tries each, but possible even with mediocre ping.
(edited by onevstheworld.2419)
OP said they’re missing one from completing Been There, Done That which is “normal map completion”. The first screenshot also shows that they’re at 99/100 for Been There, Done That. Their second screen shot shows that they have the Tyria explorer achievements all completed.
This.
Krytan/Orr/Ascalon/Maguuma explorer achievements are awarded for revealing the map ie just walking into the zone. Essentially removing the fog of war. Those achieves don’t require poi/HP/JP vista/hearts, so there’s still 1 thing missing for map completion.
Edit: I didn’t mean JPs, I mean vistas
