Best way to get ascended bakpack ?

@rhapsody
Finite result actually needs 2 balls of dark energy, 1 for collection and another for crafting.

@OP
When getting your back piece, remember the available stats are quite limited (some more than others), so double check the wiki before you commit yourself to any one route.

The other relatively easy back pieces are the ones from the 3 pact collections or Mawdrey. In terms of gold, the fractal capacitor is the cheapest if you run fractals.

There was never a backpack from world completion.

Change the stats with the mystic forge.

Salvaging ascended weapons will only return the vision crystal and a ball of dark energy. You lose all the other mats, which is where 99% of the cost lies. The only reason you’d ever salvage an ascended is to get the ball of dark energy for your HoT legendaries.

Communication and cooperation.
The best pug runs I’ve been on, everyone was open about their build and were able to identify any deficient areas. Then we’d readjust our builds accordingly. Outside of DPS and healing, you need hard CC and condi clears. In a recent clear, everyone just stacked in and ate the electro-field with a combination of heals and protection. We were done in about 15 mins.

I personally run a hammer DH, taking care not to have any retailation (light field + blast is the unavoidable one)

Difficulty in the Heart of Magumma

One big issue with these maps is, you see where you want to go (even if it’s looking only at the map since you cannot spot a Mastery Point from the ground), you look around, you find a path…and end up being driven in the opposite direction than you intended, and no clearer paths can be found. I only got two Mastery Points in Verdant Brink because the rest are either in really difficult areas, or can’t even be seen no matter where I go. These maps are a chore, not fun, and I can’t go “enjoy the scenery” and fully explore because I’m always trying not to get killed or fall to my death.

Everyone’s been in that boat, but it does get better as you get to know the map and unlock more masteries. VB’s my personal favourite map because of it’s openess. To get a tour of the map, do the personal story or the day time events. During the day time, just follow the events (Itzel, nobles, ordinance core, pale reavers and pact encampment). Masteries aren’t mandatory for these (except mushrooms for the final step in ordianace core). Pale reavers and Itzel are the most accessible as they start near the entry into VB.

For specific HP’s or MP’s, Dulfy has guides that’ll show you how to get to each one and what masteries you need.

Finally, certain masteries are important to be able to get the most out of each map:
VB – updrafts, jumping mushrooms (stealth detect for axemaster boss, but usually other players will have this)
AB – exalted markings (updrafts for east meta)
TD – nuhoch wallows (jumping mushrooms for nuhoch lane, exalted markings for underwater)
DS – updrafts (lay line gliding required for certain post-meta areas, poison mastery for certain lane events)

1. Drop the ridiculously overpriced SSD and get an 850 Evo

I pretty much agree with Fermi, but I’d like to particularly emphasize: Stay away from the 840 Evo!. It had a flaw in it which slowed it down to a crawl after a certain time period, people only noticed it a year after release. Samsung tried to update the firmware to fix it, but the problem seemed to return with time. So far, the 850 Evo doesn’t seem to have that issue.

And I do have the Corsair H100i… if I was able to relive my decision, I would have picked a water cooler without the fancy USB control. The software is kinda flakey.

You can also get ascended weapons from completing the Elite specialization collections. It’s probably cheaper than crafting, especially if you haven’t already maxed out the crafting professions. Your choices will be limited depending what class you play… only staff, warhorn, torch, shield, greatsword, hammer and bow are obtainable.

Also, if you complete the Lay Line armor collection, you get an ascended armor box. The machined weapon collection gives you an ascended weapon box, but it’s a more difficult collection to complete.

I’d agree with Fermi regarding the GPU… just wait a bit until Nvidia and AMD have released their new gen cards. Currently only Nvidia’s 1080 is available in limited quantities. The 1070 is supposedly released but I have not yet seen any in retail. AMD’s RX 480 will be the next one out. Personally I’m holding out to see what AMD’s Vega architecture (presumably it’ll be the 490 or Fury) brings before making my choice.

You can always run GW2 on the integrated GPU while waiting… it’s not pretty but its playable (I sometime play on my i5 Surface Pro 3).

The story of the raids were never meant to be a major story line in itself because it would exclude the majority of the players.

Instead it looks like anet is using it to reintroduce the White Mantle. It’s them leaving little bread crumbs, probably because LS3 has them playing a much bigger role.

I remember when LS1 came out, I was like “why do I care about Eir’s son and this char? Where’s Destiny’s Edge?” That was the initial bread crumb that eventually became HOT.

1) Don’t use knockbacks. Seriously, when everyone is hitting the boss from melee range, your knockbacks are screwing the whole party when you move him.

oH, you can kback the bosses now? Thank god they went bakc to the old defiance thingy.

You can’t knock back anything with a break bar. Most bosses do, so most of the time it’s not a problem, but some still don’t, like the cat golems in Uncategorized. That said, knocking back elites and vets is just as annoying.

Best way to level 1-80?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

I’m assuming this is OP’s first character.
Crafting to level is fairly expensive if you don’t already have a stockpile of mats, and a new character won’t have enough Tomes of Knowledge to get to 80.

Doing heart quests are very efficient for the early levels (1+ levels per heart), and the personal story is good for XP and level-approriate gear. Outside of that, as people have pointed out, just play and explore… you can get to 80 in 1-2 weeks without too much effort.

The bomb disappears when you’re too slow… the reason everyone yells “Slow CC” during that phase is so the bombers have as much time as possible. When you get there, drop the bomb on, or just in front of, the zerg.

You should only bomb if the bombs spawn on a nearby island… there’s no time to travel across the map and back. And if the bombs spawn far from the mouth, you can use the waypoint to get closer.

What type of content do you want to play? I agree that in open world, guardian’s rotation isn’t that interesting (that’s my main), but when I do small group content, it becomes a lot more interesting. I would usually swap around my build depending on situation, e.g. pure DPS, reflect-heavy, condition clears, etc. And a well timed aegis or reflect wall can make a huge difference to the team.

Also, you shouldn’t rule out any class until you try it out yourself. There’s a lot of intangibles that can’t be expressed in words. For me, I fell out of love with the ele (it was my 1st main) just because, no definite reason. But recently tried engi, and now it’s my go-to class if I want to have a fun and frantic evening… nothing to do with DPS or survivability or utility… it’s just “fun”.

Do you really need all the features on that MB? That’s a very high end one, and you could be paying quite a lot of money for features that you may never use. It used to be the case that more expensive “pro” level MB’s had tangible benefits over consumer grade ones, but now with the “gamer” MB’s you get a lot of those benefits at a better price point.

I would personally get a “gaming” MB, for example, if you wanted to stay with Asus (they are a very good brand):

Then you’ll have more budget for your other components, such as better monitor or larger SSD

Automatic deposit mats?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

The problem with auto-deposit is that people tend to devalue stuff they don’t actually have to manipulate. I can’t tell you how many people misunderstand just how much coin they get from killing foes or how much of various other currencies that just accumulate — that’s all because that stuff goes directly into the wallet and people don’t notice.

I think Illconceived’s point regarding us humans and the nature of rewards is more true than most people realize.

It’s like Christmas… yes, you can receive an un-wrapped gift that your parents just hand to you across the breakfast table. BUT… wasn’t it so much more exciting when you set your alarm to 5am so that you could run down to the tree and pull apart the unnecessarily over-wrapped present?

The 1st scenario is more practical and convenient (esp when it comes to who packs away the tree in January/Febuary/March/… June O_o), but the 2nd feels a lot more rewarding.

Ascended amulet-utility infusions good idea?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

I don’t think it makes any difference what you get at this time. If you want the utility bonus now, get those, if you want a +5 power, get the offensive slot and a +5 Wvw infusion. There an infusion extractor you buy in fractals, so you can remove it later without destroying it.

+5 stats and AR infusions are expensive and you don’t actually need it in any level of fractals. Once you’ve fully ascended gear, the gain isn’t that significant.

That said, by the time you are at that stage, you’ll likely have enough laurels for a new amulet anyway. Remember, you can buy amulets from the Wvw vendor for fewer laurels plus some Wvw badges.

@OP
Stop worrying about laurels, there’s nothing you can do to change the situation. They will accumulate at thier present rate regardless. What you can change is getting yourself into high level fractals. You will need to spend laurels and gold to get there but it’ll be a worthwhile effort in the long run. Plus if your goal is to raid, it’s the best way to practice your skills without actually raiding (not the raid mechanics, but more general skills like dps rotation, stacking, damage mitigation). And yes, it does take more than a month to get fully ascended from scratch.

I’m sure there’s someone in your guild who would be happy to show you the ropes.

Just run Soldier’s or Dire gear to survive while learning the new maps, but as other have pointed out, defensive skills and knowledge of enemies are much more important. Unlike in core Tyria, there’s pretty much no way you’d survive if you run in blindly and aggro a whole bunch of frogs/mushrooms/raptors/etc. Dodges, CC clears, stun breaks and stability are mandatory.

As you get more familiar, you’ll eventually swap back to zerk.

Other possibilities you need to look into are:
Email provider – if its a small dodgy operation
PC – viruses, trojans, key-stroke loggers,etc
Internet router/wireless network – surprising number of people have “admin” as their password, or don’t secure networks at all. And if you use a public wifi, security on those are almost always kitten.
