As mentioned above, CS usually can help you there. If you remember the date and time you deleted/sold them, it may help them verify your claim quicker.

And as Maledikus and Khisanth have pointed out, they aren’t labelled as collection items. Item that you can safely vendor/sell usually have “This item only has value as part of a collection” in its description.

Safest thing to do is to hold on to the collection items until you reach the next precursor tier. Or you can type /wiki <name of item> to bring up the wiki page in game to double check.

You may need it to get the MP. I already had it the first time I fought Mayatl so I can’t say for sure.

If you do get the MP, there’s definitely a green star pop-up in the bottom left corner to notify you. Unfortunately, there is no achievement listing so you can’t use the hero panel to confirm it.

Regarding your expansion question, it depends if you are referring to just doing the story, or the story achievements too.

With a decent build and knowledge of GW2’s mechanics, you shouldn’t have any problems soloing the story. The hardest mission is the final HoT story mission; some people struggle solo, but others, including myself have soloed it on multiple characters. It’s got its fair share of bugs, but I’ve had fewer issues recently than at the launch of HoT.

Story achievements on the other hand are more mixed. Many are easy solo, some are much easier in a group, and a few do require a group. The hardest, Migraine, requires a group capable of doing fractal level content.

Yes, if you are in an EU country, any in-game gem purchases you make will be denominated in euro, or in pounds if you are in the UK. Most other regions have to pay in USD. If you want to buy gems with your local currency, you have to buy gem cards from local retailers.

There isn’t the market to support purely subscription based MMOs anymore. WoW has the lion share of the western players willing to pay a sub, with FF14 a distant 2nd. Everyone else is adopting a F2P (with or without an additional sub) or B2P model… Eve Online is the latest to go down that route :
http://m.au.ign.com/articles/2016/08/31/eve-online-going-free-to-play-after-13-years

I think the heyday of sub to play MMOs are over and I can’t see anyone seriously considering that business model anymore.

[Suggestion] 30day+ Total Makeover Contract

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

My only problem with the idea of a 30-day contract is that I would be likely to forget that I need to finalize my choice before the 30 days is up. I think a permanent contract would be best.

A simple solution to that is to force a pop-up window at the end of your contract for you to confirm your final appearance. Make it so that it cannot be ignored or closed without committing to the change.

One addition I would like to make to your idea, is to give everyone that ability for free during Halloween, except that you revert back to your original appearance once the holiday event ends. [Suggestion] 30day+ Total Makeover Contract

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

So in effect … your offering to give say $20 for the ability to change your character at will for a month … only to have it revert back to normal at the end of the 30 days? Or would you retain the last updated version of your character?

Cause one is you giving away $20 for … free…. versus you giving $20 for the ‘outcome’ (end of 30 day) of an existing total makeover kit.

The ability to change my character at will for a month to retain the last updated version of my character This is what I mean to say and thank you for wording that question that way so I could clarify!

I like the idea. A total makeover kit costs ~$5, so I think it’s a fair price to ask for the option to change your mind as often as you like for a month and retain the look you like at the end. The item would likely need to be soulbound on use, and also have some sort of visible timer to warn you of the approaching time limit (just in case you were goofing around with a green afro that you didn’t plan to use long term).

Buying Armor chests vs Crafting

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

With stabilizing matrices at the current prices, the vendor is more expensive. But if you plan to never level up crafting, theoretically, you could buy just enough ascended pieces for 1 character to get to T3/T4, then rely on drops to get enough ascended boxes to finish that character’s gear, and then your alts too. This update removes crafting as a semi-hard requirement to play higher fractal levels (you can get ascended gear from Teq, TT, PvP, WvW etc, but the RNG is minuscule)

HoT trial weekend?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

Core GW2 and HoT are built around the same ideas. Active combat based around dodging and horizontal progression to reduce the amount of grind. If you don’t like those (which you can easily realise by playing the core game), you won’t like HoT either. It’s still the same game. HoT just adds some new content to keep players busy until another expansion arrives.

I agree that there are a lot of similarities between the two, but there are also large departures too. The increased difficulty, timed map-wide metas and segregation of progression into XP/MP/HP (instead of just XP) are often brought up as negative aspects of HoT. Also, Anet’s reputation took a major beating when they suspended (many then read it as cancelled) legendary weapons. Now that Anet have addressed many of these aspects, I feel the time is right to up the marketing.

I’m not strictly against the idea of HoT trial, it might bring back some life to the maps (I’m talking other forms of activity than just multiloot), but I don’t see it affecting sales in any way. Whoever likes GW2 already bought the game and people who didn’t find the experience enjoyable won’t suddenly buy it just because of a trial weekend.

I took the trial weekend idea from Steam. From personal experience, I’ve bought games based on reviews, let’s plays, and genres that I know I enjoy, but ended up putting them soon after because I couldn’t get into them for whatever reason. At this point in time, I’ve got a Steam wish list a mile long with no intention of buying at any price unless there is a way for me to try and see if it suits my frustratingly undefinable criteria.

I do concede that I do not know how well Steam trial weekends do in terms of sales. But they are effective in generating new interest in older games.

What you did was devalue the positive reviews by stating that they were biased and created by “fan boys”.

Errr… I don’t see how you can say that.

Read my post properly. It was not a statement on positive reviews in general. It was statement on the arguments used by others as reasons not to believe the positive opinions. At launch, during the content drought and even currently, it’s not hard to find this sentiment.

And look at my own posting history… you’ll see I’ve been a defender of the game and Anet, not a detractor.

HoT trial weekend?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

I don’t think Guild Wars needs free weekends now that the core game is free to play. If people enjoy the game, they’ll decide if they want to play the expansion and all the bonuses that grants or not.

I don’t think that’s a reason not to have a trial weekend, because core GW2 and HoT a still significantly different experiences. There are plenty of people on this forum who say they enjoy the core game but hate the expansion, as there are plenty of people who feel the opposite.

At the end of the day, try-before-you-buy models (whether is comes in the form of F2P, trial periods, shareware, etc) allow players to make informed purchasing decisions, which is pro-consumer and is a philosophy that all companies (not just Anet) should incorporate.

HoT trial weekend?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

As to whether it has much impact or not, I see enough “Is HoT worth it now?” threads in this forum, that I’m convinced there is enough curiosity about HoT’s current state to warrant at least considering a trial period.

F2P did help draw in new players by removing a significant barrier to entry. Of course, not every F2P player bought the game, but having a taste of the game was what convinced some players to commit real money towards it. I don’t see why a trial of HoT can’t do the same.

HoT trial weekend?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

To paraphrase myself: any positive current opinion MAY be interpreted as a biased opinion of a “fan boy”, whether or not that opinion is valid. I didn’t label anyone a fan boy, I was using the phrase to illustrate a point.

It is precisely because of the early negative reviews of HoT that Anet will have a hard time convincing the undecided in any way other than allowing them to experience HoT first hand. I am personally very happy with my pre-purchase of HoT and enjoyed the experience at launch. But I also recognize that HoT was a significant departure from the original and not everyone shared my positive opinion. Since then, the game has been changed to make it more accessible but many of those early perceptions of HoT still linger and will be difficult to dispel.

HoT trial weekend?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

It’ll work by the same principle as why F2P works… you get to try before you buy.

The way I see it, even at the sale price, you’re still taking a calculated risk whether or not it’s going to be worth your money. At whatever price, not everyone has the luxury of being able to afford buying a game that he/she might enjoy. The skeptic would argue all the glowing reviews about Anet’s new direction and LS3 episodes is just biased opinions from fan boys, especially given the criticisms of HoT at launch.

And as I point out, Anet already have to code to implement this. The cost would be small relative to the potential return.

As a long time player and owner of HoT, I’ve suggested this before, but I think the timing is more appropriate now;
Anet, you should have a HoT trial weekend for f2p and core players.

  • The QoL patches and LS3 episodes addressed many of the original criticisms of HoT. A lot of undecided players don’t seem to realize this… there is no better way to change that perception.
  • Between the HoT beta and level 80-boost, the code to have a temporary character separate from the rest of an account already exists.
  • We’re approaching the holiday season. Timing is perfect if paired with another sale.

HoT Hero Points need a severe nerf

onevstheworld.2419

HP’s don’t need a nerf… have you ever posted in LFG or just asked in map chat if someone needs a certain HP? I have never had to wait hours… or certainly not days to complete a HP. If you are, you are simply not trying to find a group. Also a lot of areas have HP trains that you can join.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pile_of_Guano

It’s hard enough just getting there, but then you have to fight a group of vampire beasts. I have seen a zerg try and nearly fail.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Balthazar's_Statue

The actual point is a commune but the champion can again destroy whole zergs by simply pouring on AOE fire.

For guano, just announce you need help for it towards the end of the night time. The reason people struggle is that they don’t realize they need to avoid getting hit when they have the lifesteal debuff. Once you tell them that, it’s quite painless.

For Balthazzar, go 20-30mins before the Octovine starts. Usually someone else is doing, or has done it, so you just need to commune.

Questions about the viper horror build

in Necromancer

Posted by: onevstheworld.2419

onevstheworld.2419

1: our chosen Reaper traits focus on buffing the chilled condition. However, the only chill source we have is warhorn 4 with a cd of 18 (I assume the interaction of traits applying fear when blind, and chill when fear, works?) Is it really worth it to trait a whole line for that skill?

You didn’t consider the interactions with the chill-causing traits:
Blinds inflicts chill → dagger 4
Fear inflicts chill → shroud 3
Crits on chilled foes cause a frost nova (your crit chance should be really high with Decimate Defenses)
Btw, warhorn 4 isn’t a chill, blind, or fear; it’s a daze.

2: most of the time I will be operating without food. Are there any differences I should make to the build if I don’t use food?

You can run this build without food in the open world… in fact you can run any build in the open world. In the rare occasion you need food; meta food is expensive, but if you went with the tier just below it, it’s a lot cheaper.

3: being reasonably poor, what changes can I make to the build to be better when I’m doing solo content without swapping armor? Just to be exact: I’ll be using the metabattle build when doing group content, but what do you guys do when you’re alone?

I personally run the same equipment… just change a few things skills around for QoL… e.g. the speed sigil, flesh golem, etc. There are also encounters where certain skills are useless… e.g. epidemic when there is only a single mob. So you need to get familiar enough with your skills and the encounters to tailor your build to suit whatever you’re doing.

Exactly. I’m not making the same mistake twice. When Anet turned around and stabbed the entire playerbase in the back by giving away what we had to PAY FOR thats the last dollar they’ll see from me.

I’ll just wait till the next xpac comes out like most people and get it for free.

TBH, as someone who has been playing since the beginning and pre-ordered the expansion, I was really happy that Anet added f2p and bundled the core game with the expansion. You don’t seem to realize the life blood of any MMO is its population, and lowering the barrier to entry for new players is a good move for newbies and veterans.

I may view money differently from you, but I have no problems writing off the value of the original game. I have been playing it for 4 years after all. The only other game that has given me that much value was Skyrim. Anyway, the reality is, any digital game you buy these days has a market value of $0 the moment you’re past the refund period.
