I am in no way against criticism, as long as it’s constructive. It’s far too common for people to “complain” about an issue in a manner that’s not productive at all. “It’s not what you say, but how you say it,” applies. Perhaps I was feeling particularly fanboi defensive after having spent some time in the Engineer forums. :P There are indeed issues that can be addressed. Particularly the culling, WvW queue times, Engineers, etc.
I am still rather saddened about the engineer thing. I started giving stuff away Friday and Saturday and stripped my engineer of his bags and gold. The engineer was my favorite class (I have a thief, ranger, warrior, ele and guardian at 80 as well). I pretty much gave up and went back to the 360.
I however can’t say this game has not been fun for me. I have over 1000 hours played, to say I was not entertained would be disingenuous. I still log on for an hour to talk to my friends and do a dungeon on my ele or warrior, but going forward I think I need a break.
Is there something going on with engineers? I was gonna roll one, maybe I shouldn’t now?
I wasn’t referencing the most recent fix – although that seems to be what’s bothering most.
The issue with Engineers is a lack of polish. That jack of all trades thing, and definitely not a master of any. Some builds are fun, like Tankcat, or Static Discharge – but in it’s current state, Engineer will never be in the spotlight like Warriors, Thieves, Mesmers and Guardians.
Ahhhh, I got ya!

They did get lots of stuff changed this week and it is a lot better but I feel our skills were released as “scratch” at launch. I feel some are still missing proper descriptions and they are missing combo finishers and areas that I feel are obvious to be there, and are not. That’s what I feel.
PS: my main is guardian and I do not have much experience on any other class. But the game feels more solid each patch. Still lots to do but I love it and it only gets better. I would like to point to preview in trading post and to a LFG system. Also would love you to keep adding combos where they should be.
ANet, I am really happy this week, updates everyday, I feel you guys are working really hard. Keep it going. Keep fixing your core game. Thanks a lot. While a month ago I would encounter lots of bugs everyday, now it is not that often anymore.
Well, this is just a Thank You to remind you we love the game above all the Q.Qing going on. GW2 is growing stronger.
Yeah I’ve been whining about jumping puzzles and LFGing, but I’d rather be playing this game than any other game, across all styles and genres. It’s not my only favorite, but GW1 has thousands of hours on it, and i’m already halfway to my first 1000 on GW2… you guys made a damn good game.
I know City of Heroes is dead now… but they had a brilliant instancing system, that automatically adapted the difficulty and number of mobs to the number of people who entered the ‘dungeon’. Want to do it solo? Not a problem. Want to go in with a max size group? Totally fine. Want to do it hardmode? You could agree to set the mob level, number of bosses etc etc to max.
So knowing it CAN be done, why don’t more games do this? It saves SO much frustration.
OMG that is EXACTLY what I was wanting for dungeons in GW2.
I’m a casual gamer and prefer PvE over PvP. My husband and I have our own guild, and quest by ourselves, mostly. I don’t understand why every holiday or special event has to center around a dungeon where you need to have to engage in another group. I’m not totally anti-social, I enjoy world events. I just don’t enjoy LFG. I know it’s probably just me, but that’s my honest opinion.
Not just you… so far there’s snowball pvp which I don’t like. Jumping puzzles, which I HATE, and bells, which I could not figure out and I have no intent to try again.
The events just aren’t fun like they used to be IMO. (In gw1)
Very frustrating for an event that is supposed to be “fun”.
Yeah my sentiments exactly.
Maybe we can just go sledding or some other distraction where you don’t get rewarded at all, but is actually legit fun…. and actually has something to do with the holiday in question.
(An exotic that comes from the mkct? Really?! That’s a bit ridiculous.) Instead of/or in addition to charging money for the seasonal town clothes, why not make them the reward for all these hoops you have to jump through? …and then you get the hat that you normally get when it comes time.
Also (I know it’s off topic at this point)… but where’s the nog?! I guess liquor doesn’t drop during the holidays anymore either.
The problem with “it should all be for everyone” is that it makes it all BORING. I don’t want to go through these events like a zombie crossing off “things to do” from a list. If that’s what it’s all about than maybe these seasonal events are not for me.
Yeah these events are totally things to cross off a list.
In Guild Wars One it was a lot faster and wasted less time, and you could count on having a reward at the end… Not 150 cogs short to make a mini…. wheee.
I’m starting to think i’m just gonna ignore the event until it comes to hat waiting time.
The jumping in this engine is for getting over obstacles and up rocks, not for elaborate puzzles.
If they can make these additional things and get them in game why shouldn’t they? Loads of people enjoy them.
At the end of the day if you don’t like that part of the game then just play the parts that you do like and let the rest of us enjoy the bits we do.Well, because they’re terrible. Straight up.
Feedback doesn’t mean all candy and roses. I don’t have to “like it or shut up” as per the impression i’m getting from several responses. Lots of people enjoy Fox News too, but that doesn’t make it good.
Anet, you have your feedback. Can the jumping.
You think they’re terrible. Lots of other people think they’re great. Some people think they’re the best part of the game. Your ‘feedback’ is just as bad as someone saying they should take out WvW, PvP tournaments or the PvE world.
I don’t know how to say this so it gets through. This is a game. If you don’t want to play it, don’t play it. If you don’t want to play parts of it, don’t play those parts.
You are saying that other people shouldn’t have something they enjoy because you don’t like it. That’s ludicrous.
Ok great, everyone loves them, and no one is allowed not to, unless they keep it to themselves.
Setting aside my personal dislike for jumping, anyone who has played a platform game, should understand that this is not platforming at it’s finest, or even at a good level of mediocrity, which is where most of my frustrations lie…

Yeah, they’re way too hard, way too long, and they’re not worth doing. I usually just give up after the first few jumps. It’s garbage enough I gotta jump on crap to get vistas for map completion.
Cut the jumping stuff out, it’s frustrating and not fun at all. If I wanted Super Mario 64 gameplay, I would turn on my N64.
I, and a lot of other players, love jumping puzzles. If you don’t like them, don’t do them. It’s that simple.
Yeah, except it’s part of the schedule on holiday events now. rolleyes
I wonder when we can expect a kart racing diversion?I don’t like PvP, so ANet should stop having PvP achievements and making PvP updates. Oh wait, that would take a huge part of the game away from other people who like it. Good grief, I guess the world doesn’t revolve around me.
You don’t need to do the JP for any reason if you don’t want to. It’s not even required for the achievement. The thread is for constructive feedback about the JP. If you don’t have something constructive to say (EX: Why you didn’t like it and how ANet could improve) then please go away.
P.S. Racing was one of the activities they planned for originally, and will probably be in the game soon.
I obviously read this hastily and missed like every part of it the other day.
…except PVP is 100% part of an mmorpg, platforming is not, would be my argument there… The improvement would be to take it away. So there’s that.
Look, I don’t mind putting in work to earn things, but I don’t play an mmo to jump around. The jumping in this engine is for getting over obstacles and up rocks, not for elaborate puzzles.
I miss the old style event quests where you’d go do like a little 3-4 part quest, kill some Christmas themed things and then go turn in for whatever Christmas crap there was and then that’s it you’re done until it comes time to wait for the hat.

Yeah I remember doing beetle racing a bunch of times in GW1 for some reason or another… Yeesh, lol.

I liked the JP, but like others have said, it is way too easy.
I know, I know, there’s a lot of people who think the difficulty is just right. But what do they consider too easy or too hard? In my opinion it should be hard enough to take you a majority of the event time period to finally learn it and finish it. Not spend 20min trying it and then you beat it.
Since this is part of a limited event, I think it should be pretty easy so people can participate and have fun.
For JPs in the persistent world? Go all out on the difficulty, sure. I won’t like some of the puzzles, but other people will. So long as there’s something for everyone that’s fine in the persistent world. But for special events that specifically draw casuals back to the game, I think the activities / JPs should be easy enough for most people to do.
Yeah, except it’s part of the schedule on holiday events now. rolleyes

The waiting time is so annoying.
Alt-Tab for 2 seconds too long. Have fun waiting 2 minutes again.
Really poor design imo.
Why can’t we just have a personal instance? Jumping with others really doesn’t add anything to the game.

Wait…. you can only get mistfire wolf with Digital Deluxe?
What’s my motivation for this when there’s hounds of balthazar?
Are your criticisms mostly being leveled at the personal story and cinematic conversations, or also with the ambient scenes and events?
Honestly I wish I could stop my character from telling me she’s feeling good, or silence those cheesy mantras recited during, well… mantras.
Sometimes the spoken dialog gets a bit much/repetitive all around.
I don’t mind the quality of the story dialog, it gets the job done and I don’t take the story too seriously anyway.
As for EVERYTHING ELSE aside from the hat, the skill and bla bla bla, you can get all that in game, the boosters… whatever. The tome of influence might be nice, but again… I can just earn that influence by just working at the game.
Anet was very generous in giving me the chest from the Lost Shores event, even though I missed it the first time around. That had a good ring and a 20 slot box, so honestly I can’t complain.
I’m fine with this, although it does bug me there’s an exclusive hat I don’t have the opportunity to get. I guess the witches hat is pretty much the same.
I don’t even really want more town clothes until Anet figures out a way to store them without them taking up all the extra bank slots I bought.
I received the event chest in my mail yesterday.
It was crappy missing the final event, and more so the chest, but this was very nice (and unexpected).
Thanks again Anet for your goodwill in this. ;D
Me and my 2 brothers are lvl 60 and have not run a dungeon together yet, although we’ve tried multiple times. I’m very worried that once I get to 80, there will be nothing to do because the content will be inaccessable. Although the world leveling content and dynamics are awesome, the dungeon/raiding is very frustrating. The closer we get to 80 the more I’m being led to log off. Very poor group find design and very worried about world group events that no one is doing that makes it impossible to do. Getting that in lower areas now. Reminds me of why I quit playing Warhammer online, that game was painful.
Yeah i’m always hearing about how much gold and loot everyone gets from dungeons. I can’t get enough people together for a dungeon. Finding people is exceedingly difficult and not worth my time.
This means i’m way worse off financially and on top of that I can’t farm these stupid armor tokens. (I have no idea why I can’t just buy armor with money and why there needs to be about 20 different currencies.)
I hate being this guy… but as a paying customer who has thus far probably spent over $100 in gems unlocking storage panes and misc items… I WANT NPC party members. Period.
Yeah I’d just like to point out that I have not been able to do a single dungeon yet due to real life constraints and more importantly being forced to rely on others. Even if I use this stupid site, there’s no one doing the content I need to complete, so my gaming experience is currently on hold at the convenience of others.
Can we just have some henchmen like the old days so people who don’t feel like pugging for an hour can just get a dungeon out of the way?
I don’t WANT to play with other players, I hate being forced to play with other players, I can’t get tokens unless I do a dungeon, I can’t do a dungeon because there’s no one to do a dungeon with. People are all like “join a popular guild”… I don’t want to.
This is idiotic and it’s ruining this aspect of the game for me.

On a warm summer’s evenin’ through a portal to Eternal,
I met up with a necro; we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns firin’ off the wall at the invaders
’Til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.
He said, “Son, I’ve made my life out of readin’ people’s gimmicks,
And knowin’ what their skills were by the way they held their eyes.
So if you don’t mind my sayin’, I can see you’re out of tactics.
For a taste of your blood whiskey, I’ll give you some advice.”
So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then we left the fortress and waded out into the fight.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, "If you’re gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.
You got to know when to siege ‘em, when to defend ’em,
Know when to fortify, and when to advance.
You never sort your loot when you’re sittin’ in Eternal.
There’ll be time enough for sortin’ outside the borderlands.
Now Ev’ry PVP’er knows that the secret to survivin’
Is learnin’ when to back away and knowin’ how to kite.
‘Cause ev’ry match is a winner and ev’ry match a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is some skillpoints from the fight."
So when he’d finished speakin’, he turned to the invaders,
Fired off some spells at them, then he logged off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness the necro he gained a level.
Remembering his final words as our team took Stone Mist Keep.
You got to know when to siege ‘em, when to defend ’em,
Know when to fortify, and when to advance.
You never sort your loot when you’re sittin’ in Eternal.
There’ll be time enough for sortin’ outside the borderlands.

I do not understand this gw2lfg.com. It doesn’t show everyone’s server name, don’t you need to be on the same server to join someone in the dungeon. I’m not going to switch servers just to join someone for a single dungeon run.
You don’t have to be in the same server. You can do dungeons with anyone in the world.
I thought you have to guest on another server to play with someone on another server which hasn’t been implemented yet.
Yeah this is pretty much my consensus.
I know it takes away from the mystery of the event an all that, but next time, for grown ups with jobs and kids and wives… maybe just hide under a spoiler alert: “This is when the main thing is happening, you WILL be getting decent loot so be sure to attend.”
These things are fun when you have the time to spend all day in them, but some people just can’t.
Yeah it was quite a letdown.
A broken NPC for a quest I never bothered finishing, the same mobs over and over, and then after hanging around all weekend I have to go do something IRL and I miss a bunch of exotics and a 20 slot bag from what I hear. Oh and jumping puzzles, but whats the point of frustrating yourself with a jumping puzzle?
As for dungeons… well I haven’t been able to do ANY dungeons, since no one I knew was on and I hate pugging. Maybe we could have the option of NPCs at a dungeon’s entrance like the old style henchmen? Just in case someone doesn’t feel like gathering up people.
The new map itself is really nice to look at and don’t get me wrong, I still love GW2 a lot… but I wish I didn’t spend so much hoping something big would happen, and I wished I had the time at the end of the weekend to get the worthwhile rewards.
(edited by ophidic.1279)
Well on the other hand I did manage to max Armorsmithing and get to a rough 50% world completion before I dinged 80. Shame of the personal quest though. Good side is that now I can do ’em all without being forced to do a few tasks in between personal story quests.
Can’t wait to start doing a different chain on my alts. At least I know what to avoid, now.
That’s the spirit, I love GW too much to be mad at it, even over something “serious” like this. I put serious in quotes because it’s serious to the game, but not SERIOUS serious.
I’m honestly confused as to why the patch hasn’t gone through. This bug is a pretty big deal, and Jeff already did his part by fixing the issue and getting it ready to patch… so why has it vanished? This is not a small issue we’re talking about here, and patch was ready DAYS ago, so what purpose is there in forcing us to wait until November 15th to be able to progress past our story line. It just seems to me a little odd. ESPECIALLY considering we saw fixes to WvW, other story quests and a handful of other things just 2 days ago.
I would really like to see this issue taken more seriously. I honestly felt my faith in Arenanet slip a bit when I saw the previous post closed. We’re told what… it’ll be patched when it’s patched, get over it and wait? And oh, btw, we’re tired of listening to you whine so we’re just gonna shut this conversation down? That really changed my view of Arenanet as a whole.
I really hope whoever is holding this patch up starts to take this issue just a tad bit more seriously. A month will have been a long time to wait to be able to continue our main character’s story arcs…
Dude, did you try out Diablo 3? You ever talk to their support? Haha, oh man.
Lemme tell you I don’t mind waiting, we’re all still experiencing some pretty fantastic gaming here, bugs or not and claiming they’re not taking this issue seriously is ridiculous.
Pretty annoying bug, but it’s easy to find something else to do. Some people need to relax.
Welcome.
I’ve made a site for my casual guild, I had a lot of trouble recruiting members in guild wars 1, perhaps it’ll be different in 2.
Anyway, i’m just throwing this out there. Here’s my guild site in case you’re interested.
Good luck in the guild search.
