I tried to do an orr event solo just out of curiosity. I tried multiple builds, multiple approaches, multiple angles. After quite a few failures, I finally found a way that I thought would work. It was tedious sure but it seemed like it might work. Take out the catapult, take out the servants, bring npcs close to res but not fully ressed, res what I can then try and take the camp. I got most of the way there, then the abomination proceeded to one shot everything in sight, the 15 npcs, me. Disheartened but determined, I tried again. Destroy the catapult, kill the servants. Oh wait they added a third servant now….he wasn’t here before. I can’t out dps them to get the catapult. Ok fine I’ll kill them first. Kill servants, destroy the cata…oh one respawned…kill servant…oh another respawned….kill the servant….Now they are just respawning right after I kill them. I find the 90-130 or whatever unlikely now. Less than 10 seconds to kill one and it just respawns right away?
I’m all for challenge but I think it should at least be possible…
I mean the abomination alone wipes ALL the npcs. But theres two. And two more veterans. And two catapults. And three servants. And a grub. And a squire. And a pirate. And two rotmouths.
So yeah that’s already hard. But instant respawn just makes it impossible. Impossible is not fun. I want to do events. But this is beyond ridiculous. What else can I do but give up on orr?
Is it really that hard to try and balance the maps? Blizzard does it all the time without too much trouble. Is it too hard to change the spawn timers from instant to not instant? Change it from 90 to 95 seconds? 130 to 140? And just see if it improves things?
If it’s an empty map now will 5% really potentially disrupt it that much? I doubt it. And yet we don’t even see any attempt to fix it.
Blizzard also fell flat on their face with Diablo 3. I played Diablo 2 for 10 years. I played Diablo 3 for 2 weeks.
They’re no yardstick to measure against anymore, IMO. Not to mention that GW is a way more complex game than Diablo, there’s a lot more going on in terms of NPCs and events, so there’s much more for the devs to consider I would imagine.
Maybe play gw1 still? It seems like it’s gaining steam again from gw2 users who don’t like the new game! I hear a bunch of ppl talk about going back to gw1
I’ve been thinking about giving that a try. I nevered played GW1 and from what I’ve heard it sounds like it’s better than GW2.
If you like magic the gathering even a little, the deck building aspect will appeal to you!
The incentive to farm any of the dragons is gone.
The loot received for your effort is unbalanced. If the time spent on Jormag for the chest yields the same rewards as running around killing mobs for the same amount of time something must be off. Blue items shouldn’t even be on the loot table for the chests. Now that the mobs around the dragons rarely drop anything, why bother?
The epic fights don’t offer anything epic in return.
Not true!
Look at all this epic whining!
Really…. last time I did Jormag I got 3 yellows, a couple medallions and some other stuff that made a few silver. It took maybe 15 minutes.
If you make all that and more from regular mobs in 15 minutes, I would have to go ahead and say that you sir, are either embellishing or lying.
(edited by ophidic.1279)
Because it’s fun
This is an objectively false statement. Nothing is fun about standing still and autoattacking a stationary boss. Period.
I find it fun. I’m clearly not the only one. Opinions that go against the narrative of your little world are not “objectively false”.
I will back this up and say that Jormag is fun, broken wall and all.
Basically what it says. I noticed there was no subcategories for the crafting materials when I was searching for food mats on the TP.
Not sure if this is just on oversight or whatever, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
I mean what are the chances that anyone is even going to know the person standing next to them in LA or wherever? Probably not a good chance, unless you stand around with guildies frequently.
Thanks for the replies everyone. In the mean time i’ve accidentally sent an exotic to some random person who was kind enough to send it back. (I tipped some silver for the honesty.)
But seriously Can we NOT have mail auto address to the first person standing near you? Come on, that is BEYOND stupid.
Yeah yeah I know, check before you send right? Well sometimes your hand slips, you’re tired… whatever. I don’t need to explain myself.
because the people having fun are playing.
That doesn’t really cut it anymore.
Even though I enjoy the game when I’m playing, I’ve seen, and felt a lot of negative things while playing as well, which have made me post about the negative effects in the game.
nothing makes you post anything
I see people complaining all the time about EVERYTHING. My only complaints are really with the JPs and that’s basically it.
Sure there’s things I like about GW1 better than this, but this is still pretty fun too.
Yeah, I like hanging around and shooting the poop with people then when it’s time we all go to the fight.
Yeah, these are group events for a reason. They’re meant to be taken by groups. It’s NORMAL not to be able to solo this.
Kill the baby spiders when they spawn, and there you go.
I think it even says below the health bar of a baby spider when selected that it defends the mother or something to that effect.
Actually I think this is one of the better bosses, most of the games bosses aren’t soloable at all, Gargantula can be even if it is very very difficult.
The most difficult part of that fight I ever encountered was having to fix my manicure(after 5 min of 1-2-3-4-5 pressing, my finger slipped and a nail broke Q.Q). I could never view endless hp as difficult. Now, if there was a fine mechanic to prevent the healing…as it is right now you basically put your glass cannon shoes on, mash buttons for 10 min and hope your dps is high enough to take it down before the timer ends.
Ahahaha yes, that’s hilarious!
Plus all this complaining of “it’s not on the map”, well it is… if you piece the map together. The FULL map, not just the area that PVE takes place in. The world is bigger than the map you see when you hit m.
I guess Cantha is gone because it’s not on the map. Elona? Wiped off the face of the map!
Like i say…
When i press ’’M’’ it is NOT on the world map..
And yes neither is Cantha or Elona but NO they havnt dissapeared but neither are they part of the 100% map completion either.
so your point is invalid.. {sorry}
{Edit} oh and your other post i quote ‘’What’s the point of playing with other players if you’re not ever going to hit one of them.’’ games of chess must be a riot in your house then ;p
Whatever, sorry you can’t get map locations under fire.
LOL Except theres no PVE mode in Chess! That’s a 100% PVP game. You “hit” when you take someone’s piece.
If the game is dead, why check the forums again? Is an update going to convince you to keep playing?
I hope so, yes, though I do not expect it will. I still check in here every week or two to see if there’s info on these “big changes”. Enjoy your game!
Just curious.
Maybe play gw1 still? It seems like it’s gaining steam again from gw2 users who don’t like the new game! I hear a bunch of ppl talk about going back to gw1
Also…. it’s super convenient that map completion goes on vistas, pois and waypoints…
No more wall hugging the perimeter of map, looking for that tiny chunk you missed to get that .1% for completion as in GW1.
Do the npc players ignore you in the other maps?
No didnt think so, what you are saying is im a bad i can kill npcs but not players please nerf the game.
either that or spend some time in wvw and see it can be fun, the added danger that you could actually die rather than auto attack and afk help the time passYour great assumptions of calling people bad is just vile and disgusting.
I have put plenty of hours into WvWvW.
The issue is is that my server is not going to mystically capture keeps and castles the instant I show up. I’m sorry that my schedule doesn’t allow me to check the status of the maps every hour and every day. I guess I should also apologize for not being interested in PvP when I’m trying to complete a rather PvE-esque task!
Dude, just be patient.
I never thought I was gonna clear borderlands, and i’m nearly done and I barely tried.
I think most of us are totally NOT INTERESTED in killing other players.
Are you freakin kidding me? You do realize this is an ONLINE game right?
what has the fact that it’s an online game got to do with it ??
Realy support your point here or just don’t bother to reply ty…
Look the simple fact is WvW is NOT part of the world so therefore should not be part of the 100% map completion..
And the PROOF that it is not part of the world is if you press ’’M’’ on your keyboard you DO NOT see the WvW maps show up in the WORLD MAP.
What’s the point of playing with other players if you’re not ever going to hit one of them.
Don’t tell me when to reply and when not to. I’ll decide that, thanks…
Borderlands? Part of the world. Same with all the PVP zones. It was like that in the first game too, and it was WAY harder to explore the enemies side when sides never changed.
As you were, babies.
Maybe all of you complainers could group up and kick the crap out of orr.
Orr being an epic level 80 open area was thrown out in November. Get into FOTM, geez!
… truthfully I’m just checking these forums to watch for the January update to “save” this sort of gameplay. Game’s dead as a doornail without it as far as I’m concerned.
If the game is dead, why check the forums again? Is an update going to convince you to keep playing?
I think most of us are totally NOT INTERESTED in killing other players.
Are you freakin kidding me? You do realize this is an ONLINE game right?
Good thing the servers change weekly and you have literally years to complete the map.
He’s a scholar not a military general.
That’s exactly the problem.
He should be a scholar and advisor on Orr matters, not military commander of Pact forces.
That’s one of the most stupid plot twists in the whole history of game industry.
Yes, no one in real life ever has been forced into a military position. That’s totally unrealistic. /sarcasm
He asks your advice because this is a video game.
Hahahaha!
Awww it’s hard to run through clouds of mobs? Q_Q
Anyone remember what an old school Droks run is like?
I am posting about the unbreakable choir bells.
They are irritating when spammed in town.
Please ring your bell responsibly.

Don’t forget Henchmen/Heros so you can do a dungeon solo without having to worry about others.
Wouldve been nice to see other skins besides just a hammer for a candy cane skin. Was really looking foward to having a sword or for gw1 vets a gingerbread focus and other items that made the winter holidays nostalgic. Vets could show off their skins and remember times past(heirloom item passed down from our previous chars
) and new folks would have the same fun by killing the undead risen while making them smell minty fresh.
Really enjoyed the winter pvp game. Wished i had played that more as it was reAlly rewarding to take folks down you normally wouldnt be able to based on profession.
Didnt really bother with the jumping puzzle as after a few tries it wasnt really my thing. Regular everyday ones arent based with having to stay moving due to puzzle deteriorating behind you(i know a few have things similar like the one in metrica but it doesnt make you keep moving 100%).
Not that im a huge crafting fan/user but ibelieve the devs need to QA the recipes they release so things dont happen that can be exploited so long without fixing (the stuck open haunted doors were fixed within hours. I know it was first event and there was probably a lot of supervison on that).
The wooden skins just plain out suck as far as looks. Maybe im partial to wanting those candy cane ones but still.
I agree, I miss candycane weapons across the board… and peppermint shields, lol.
Not being funny but what do you want us to say? “Oh i’m so sorry that it’s too hard for the minority of the players so instead i’m just going to be slient and hope anet don’t read the moaning and make them stupidly easy.” You find it hard so you say your opinion, i want them to be if anything harder, so i’ll say mine. That way anet don’t only read bad feedback and nerf them to the point where anyone can do them without any challenge at all.
Furthermore, if you’re not good at them what else do you expect to get when you write about a jumping puzzle being to hard other then people say keep trying and you’ll get the hang of it. Do you think we just woke up with a natural ability to do jumping puzzles easily? No we had to start from scratch too. I’ve never been great at that sort of things and yes it took me afew hours to do the cloak tower the first time, but after i did manage to do it, i then did it on all 4 of my alts first time without any problems. I wish gamers now adays stop expecting everything handed to them on a plate and are made to work abit more.
I hated the music event and wasn’t very good at that, but i didn’t come on the forums and moan about how hard it is, i kept trying untill i got to the point where it became easier and i managed to get my monthly, never went back after that.
Oh I guess only good opinions are allowed.
You know what? Some people have REAL lives and can’t waste hours perfecting these stupid hoop jumping diversions. I can see from halloween the loot was VERY VERY REAL however seeing as how there’s stuff from that’s better than anything i’ve earned yet. The book back piece I got was free, and it’s currently sitting with better stats than the guild backpack that costs THREE GOLD. Did someone not think about this? I mean that’s some pretty poor planning, especially when you can count the amount of back pieces on one hand practically.
You people keep talking about wanting a challenge? Why not go do something thats actually supposed to be challenging like pvp or dungeons? Holiday events USED TO BE and SHOULD be easy and should be completed within a few minutes..
(edited by ophidic.1279)
Too easy? I wish they made it harder, this one was so easy compared to the CT one and the rest of them in game are somewhat just as easy, but i suppose it’s an MMO and not a platform game so they can’t make them too hard or else only afew people would complete them. As for the guessed 1-2% who have completed this i really hope not as not only did i complete it on my second try, the two people I did it with also completed it on their second try. We failed the first time as when we got to the end we didn’t know we had to jump down from the presents
This one is hardly even timed. You can stand on each snowflake for a second or two while you line up the jump and still manage to get to the end, it isn’t as much as a race as the cloak tower was where if you stand still for more then afew seconds that’s it game over.
Keep practicing and you’ll learn how to do it. It isn’t a physical ability to click space and move your camera around, most jumping puzzles have no time limit and therefore you can spend 5-10 mins making sure that the jump you’re about to do can’t fail and miss if that’s what it takes to complete it.
I wish people who find it easy would stop giving explanations like “It’s easy, you’ve just gotta jump on all the things and line it up right and then you’re done! Simple!”
It’s obnoxious and unhelpful. This post isn’t as bad as others, but still. If it’s hard for some people, it’s hard for some people.
(edited by ophidic.1279)
I know we already got bags and boxes and skins and all that, i’m just wondering if there’s gonna be a hat like at halloween, and like in the old country.
i can run threw it fine but the server is lagging things that normally appear in the distance dont faze in until im right up to them but where there is no snow i can see things a long way away. it isnt my pc i know that for a fact lol its way above guild wars standards.
Weird, I’ve never had any drawing objects/distance issues before.
I must be lucky in some regard, I haven’t experienced some of the other glitches I’ve seen people mentioning as well.
I totally agree with OP its time to get rid of this crap lagg fantastic snow…. its past christmas the snow needs to go, quit laggin out the game with junk and fix your old stuff… thats how i feel honestly…
If the snow is making your PC lag, then it’s time for a new computer.
Why is it that complaints are met with such hostility? People jump to conclusions about OP, ask what is his/her problem is, say he/she is entitled, yet they were polite as hell. Anonymity of the interwebz doesnt change the fact that being an elitist makes you a kitten. Personally I think the presents were immersion breaking and unfair, seeing as some kitten can open the thing and leave the mobs to run amok for innocent bystanders to get slaughtered by. Regardless, the hostility in this thread is disgusting.
Why do people keep saying kitten on this forum? I’m gonna get hostile towards that soon.
That and everyone dropping the word “entitled” every five seconds.
I shouldn’t do this, being Christmas and all, but if the present contains even two of the dolls or golems I try to race in, take the gifts and run run run. If there’s others in the area I scream at them to stay away, then help when they go down. But yeah, those dolls are dynamite.
Feedback and invisibility help lots.
I am unable to even complete most vista’s where much jumping is required

I really dislike jumping.
I hear you. I still hate it and I still feel that anything more than jumping up some rocks belongs in Mario, not Guild wars, although I’m getting better at the jumping, and even completed a couple jumping puzzles a few times.
nobody is going to use them after wintersday. I doubt many people would want to craft pets or tonics after the event.
Its not a matter if players want to craft those things or not but rather will they be able to or not. If ANet removes wintersday-related mystic forge recipes when event ends – all those items players hoarded to sell later will become obsolete till next year’s Wintersday.
Reminds me of hoarding candy cane shards in GW1
Hi all , Happy New Year.
I am new to this game. It has surpassed my expectations in every way , and I’m hopelessly addicted.
Big respect to the artists and programmers!
However: This whole Crismas thing feels to me really forced. It is jarring to see these silly boxes dotted around pristine fantasy landscapes. There is one whichever way you look, apparently, and some are just too close to waypoints. Once I was just standing inside a seemingly safe area (inside a fort) working on my inventory when some idiot openend a box and then ran off and i had to stop what i was doing and fight for my life. . .
The game is overwhelming for beginners and we DONT NEED THIS STUFF.
The enemies that come out of the boxes ar unbalanced and lethal if you’re playing solo and don’t have experience and high level gear. The rewards just plain suck – ugly socks?
After dying and then spending 15 minutes trying to kill these cheap toy dolls with their cheap shots, I get Ugly Socks???On my first few hours in the game, I went to Lion’s Arch to see what the fuss is all about , as I cannot remove the message on the top right of my screen constantly reminding me of a holiday i don’t care about. So there was some Toymaker thing I could check out.
I naively went in only to be quickly killed by some black blurry stuff. The worse came after, I could not see how to leave that horrible toy area and get back to my homeworld. As new player , this wasn’t a welcome feeling. So here’s hoping that this event will go away , forever. Those boxes all over the map are an eyesore.
At least let us remove the reminder on the top right of the screen PLEASE!
Thanks
It ends today if you’d look at the schedule.
Don’t open the boxes if you can’t handle the mobs. Simple.
The clones didn’t move at all.
Lowering the sound quality one notch really helps, as I’ve never had this bug since then.
I picked up an upgraded quaggan trident I believe, which was only doing 50 damage or something per hit.
Besides that, I noticed my clones were coming up unarmed. That might be something to look into.
I took a screenshot of it when it happened.

Hey.
I was just sending some food to a guild member and in my excitement I forgot to enter their name before I hit send.
To my dismay, the mail and my food went anyway, I presumed it to be lost, until I got a mail back from what I presume was the nearest person to me when I sent the letter, because they thanked me for the food.
I notice who you’re sending to autofills with nearby people as you type, which is kind of cool, but I don’t think it’s really a time saving feature, and I would rather type the name out in full than accidentally send something of worth to a complete stranger.
So I guess this is a bug? Maybe more of just an oversight with the blank mailto field.
A couple of members of the Holiday Team were interviewed on the MMORPG.com livestream yesterday, and they addressed this question there. Whether to have one-time events will depend on what that particular team decides for that content update. The goal for Wintersday was to make it a little bit more relaxed, and so it takes place for an extended period of time with content that is accessible after the scheduled airship stops. This time of year is very busy for many people who want to spend time with their families for the holidays and many people also take vacations during the holidays. The way the Wintersday event was designed fits better with these considerations in mind.
Despite my complaints about the Christmas event compared to the GW1 Christmas event, I just got the chest, and an effortless 3 weapon skins, a 15 slot box and that decorative back piece were more than adequate in terms of what I would expect from a Christmas event.
I wasn’t excited about having to farm cogs and all that and i’m still not… but something quick and easy like that for someone like me with a wife, child and job is much appreciated, so thank you very much for that. Merry Christmas Anet.
First, respectfully, I found the art in Wintersday to be profoundly beautiful and well done. The dolls, the toys, the city decorations, the snow, the little icons, everything about the artwork was amazing.
That’s one thing I DID enjoy quite a bit, was the decorations and the music.
For the record, you sound whiny and entitled, so should we disregard your post entirely or should we give “whiny and entitled” posters the benefit of the doubt?
You sound like half the other people on here. Anyone who disagrees with anything is whiny and entitled.
And for suggesting that people be open minded, I received an infraction (and for mentioning that, I’ll receive another one; hope I’m close to that temp-ban).
Incidentally, OP spent the first 1/3rd of his post on the subject, so I can’t see how it’s even considered off-topic, or why he wouldn’t be called out for it and I am.
Selective application of rules is exactly why we shouldn’t let big government become even bigger.
Wow, you got an infraction for that?! Jeez. =/
Don’t worry, I got banned from commenting on the GW2 facebook before release for participating in GW2 vs Diablo 3 fights. I still can’t comment, lol!
(edited by ophidic.1279)
I did the first Infinitarium in the Grove. Next came the Queensdale one. By the third day, I just gave up, logged out, and went off to play Guild Wars, where it’s Wintersday every single day of the event, useful things drop from kills, and I can just do silly things.
One of the biggest problems I see between Wintersday in Guild Wars vs GW2 is that in Guild Wars, the quests are the same every single year. In GW2, the quests are essentially the same every day.
It’s boring, the rewards are less than stellar, often useless (really, sweaters I can trade for… sweaters in a lame game of GW2 roulette). Oh, and the Infinitarium – the huge, grand guignol of the event is impossible without a full team.
In Guild Wars? You know the events, you’ve come to love them as part of the holiday season that only comes once a year, and if you want, you can do them on your own with heroes and/or henchmen and don’t need to wait around for a team.
Between the two, I’d say Wintersday in Guild Wars has always been a fun home run, while Wintersday in GW2 is a massive swing-and-a-miss.
The exception? Snowball fight. I laughed hysterically when I used the giant snowball skill. Steamrollering opponents was funny.
FINALLY, Someone who agrees with my point of view.
I’m sure a lot of people who think this event is sooo fun haven’t even touched GW1 so I’ll excuse their ignorance. Quite frankly… this is not a very fun event compared to GW1, and that’s disappointing since GW2 hasn’t let me down really in any other regard than the holiday events.
Seriously just plunk a few holiday themed hearts around outside all the major cities, and let them sell holiday stuff. All this jumping and bell nonsense can be rewardless extras. If everyone wants a challenge so badly, why do you go run fractals or do something that should actually poses a proper challenge?
(edited by ophidic.1279)
For the record, you sound whiny and entitled, so should we disregard your post entirely or should we give “whiny and entitled” posters the benefit of the doubt?
You sound like half the other people on here. Anyone who disagrees with anything is whiny and entitled.
Have you seen GW1 holiday quests? You go, fight some stuff, after 3 or 4 sections which are incredibly easy, you got everything to “do” all the event stuff, and make a few candy cane weapons. NO ONE complained that it was too easy.
Sounds pretty forgettable and boring. Why would anyone want to do that for any reason but getting the reward?
To the people who like Jumping Puzzles, if Anet was to dumb them down to make them accessible to everyone, then that would be removing our fun. The Wintersday puzzle was already a big let down for those of us that loved the Mad King’s Clocktower. Changing the difficulty of the puzzle is already a give and take, and this holiday JP has already taken fun away from those that love Jumping Puzzles and given it to those that don’t like Jumping Puzzles as much.
If they are just going to dumb down the JP’s then they might as well just stop making them for holiday events. The people who like Jumping Puzzles will find them too easy and boring, and the people who dislike JPs already dislike JPs from the very start. Why should the difficulty be targeted to people who dislike the concept of the activity in the first place?.. that’s just going to make no one happy.
Why does anyone do any holiday events? FOR THE HOLIDAY ITEMS, LAWL.
I would say that EVERYONE is entitled to complete a holiday event. It’s not supposed to be a challenge, it’s supposed to be something fun and easy, and it should take no more than 20 minutes AND you should be guaranteed some cheap holiday items, liquor, food, socks/sweaters/hats whatever, but NOT EXOTIC ARMOR as per the Clock Tower.
If Anet is making every holiday about jumping and dungeons, I’m gonna be pretty annoyed.
Sorry to be so bold, but what I find annoying is that feeling of entitlement. If they make it so everyone can complete it, they would have to dumb it down to a level that most player will find it a joke… and players will complain with reason. What is needed is mix of hard and easy events… and ANet nailed it with Wintersday as the Tixx dungeon is a walk in the park, the
guitarbell hero is just plain fun with a bit of challenge, and the jumping puzzle requires skill without being aggravating. And since I have yet to actually do it (almost made it last time), let me log in and try that one again! See you in Tyria!
Or they can just at a difficulty setting to it so everybody can enjoy it instead of some either getting frustrated with it and other finding too easy.
God, I could even deal with it if there was no moving bits, checkpoints if it was long enough so you don’t have to start all over from the beginning, and no groups, just instance the stupid thing. Or is there some technical reason why instancing it would be bad?

There was an event in the underworld that I just never really did because I wasn’t good at it, but there was nothing special you got from it as far as I was aware.
Bell hero? Good lord don’t even get me started on that one. I could not sort out what was happening…
It sucks because it was just fun being at the events in GW1, and now it’s not fun at all. AND I WANT IT TO BE FUN. I never in a million years thought I would be complaining about the first GW2 Christmas. =(
