Well I think you stay in the world for a little bit as kind of an anti-cheater sort of thing.

You know, so you can’t log out in PVP right before someone gets a kill on you or something. I dunno. It’s like having to wait a minute to log out, except your character does the waiting and you just walk away.

I recall this too. I also recall that we were supposed to get the ability to aquire in game cosmetics to wear over our armors, not much there really in that way. There’s a few things in the gem store. Not what I thought they were talking about from the interviews I read. I thought we’d have these cosmetics as prizes from these mini games.

I miss being able to wear a costume over armor as opposed to just wearing a costume.

If this is boring to you personally, hopefully there are other achievements that help you meet your monthly. :-)

While I agree with everything you say fundamentally, I’m a bit curious about the reasoning behind this particular achievement. The best thing about the new daily/monthly set up is that according to what part of the game appeals to you most you can usually get them done without too much of your time bleeding into other areas. For these periscopes, they don’t exactly add anything to the game. Are there people that actually find these fun? Not easy or convenient for achieving the requirements of the monthly. I mean genuinely intriguing, captivating, interesting, thrilling, etc.? They aren’t even part of any sort of routine while normally playing the game.

I’m sorry you didn’t feel they added anything to the game. As part of Flame and Frost, they were positioned to make the Molten Alliance feel like an ever-encroaching threat, and that they were planning for something by spying on their enemies.

Specifically addressing the achievement, while we hope that all the achievements are intriguing, captivating, interesting, etc. as you said, the new system allows you to pick the ones that appeal to you personally. Admittedly, I wouldn’t put anything into the game that I felt was not fun. For me, the design goal with the perisopes was: yes it’s not fun to get knocked around. It IS fun to dodge and deke carefully and feel a sense of victory when you defeat something challenging and yes, somewhat frustrating.

However, this can be very subjective and there can be a fine line bwteen being challenged and feeling like you’re being punished, and as you’ve seen when we feel something is more punishing than fun, we aren’t afraid to change it and so we have.

You might not have found destroying the periscopes for their logs fun. Maybe you prefer jumping puzzles or events, in which case there are monthlies to suit your tastes. I’d like to think that this periscope achievement does appeal to some of our players, and we will definitely be looking at feedback and data we get from achievements like this to help inform our future design decisions. Thanks so much for your feedback! :-)

I did kind of enjoy all that knockback. lol

You need like what, over 600 used pickaxes for it to be worth?
Way to waste your money.
And it’s soulbound too. By that time gw3 will be out.

Why do people never think before they buy? Learn to use your brain and do some math.

It doesn’t matter if you need to grind half of level or a few levels, the point is you are not able to do your storyline continuously without “the extra distractions”.
I can go from start to finish in GW1 without doing anything else than the primary quests and missions. I don’t need a “certain” level to be able to do them.

And that Final Fantasy example is lame. All Asian games are based on grinding so you could take 100 more games as examples, that doesn’t mean they are doing the right thing.

And yea, the mining pick put you on top and is a game breaker because it is not for everyone. Look at the ori materials price

What is WRONG with you? Leveling a character in an RPG is a distraction? Again, Final Fantasy or any other game… my point is that the grind is MUCH GREATER than in guild wars. Period. Or are you that self-entitled that you feel that you should be free of the shackles of character progression?

You can get an ori pick for 300 karma I saw someone mention. There is no difficulty in getting an ori pick. This molten pick is mainly for convenience and looks. It’s just like an unlimited calling plan versus a pay as you go plan. Don’t like the crap with pay as you go, pay more for an unlimited plan. Big hairy deal.

Jumping puzzles are obviously not for me, and I can’t get all that loot at the end of them… is that a game breaker too? It’s frustrating, but not a game breaker. I just get my loot elsewhere.

I might consider buying this if it didn’t have the lava animation and made it so that mining was instantaneous and I didn’t have to manually loot the ore.

Instead of a flaming lava pick, I would like to see a super-efficient (maybe Asuran?) invention that manipulates the Eternal Alchemy to mine the ore simultaneously across multiple time dimensions and to use the same portal technology they already have to place it in your bags. Now that’s a time saver.

Umm dude you dont have to manually loot the ore. Check your settings ingame.

He wants ore pickup like how you pick up gold in D3, by just going close to it and not having to be bothered to pushing the F key and waiting a whole few seconds.

Real life cash may be easier to come by than in-game gold for some.

Not only an infinite mining pick is useless because the normal ones are cheap but spending 10$ for pixels and pixels that aren’t even useful is kinda funny imo. Like not because its new YOU have to buy something as worthless…

Have you ever bought a DVD ?

Just curious, so I’m surveying. Who actually bought a a Fusion Pickaxe with real money instead of gold to gems?

I did. Most expensive virtual item I’ve ever bought, but instantly knew I was going to buy it. $10 is peanuts, considering I’ve played GW1 nearly 5000 hours and plan to do the same with GW2.

Am I the only person that truly enjoys playing this game?

LoL, bear with me, please. Here’s how this question popped into my head. I had a lot, and I mean a LOT of down time today at work, so of course I’m just tooling around on my iPhone and figure I’ll hit up the GW2 forums for a few laughs. As I’m reading through the posts for the various classes- and trust me I read through what must have been 50 posted topics scattered between the various classes and the running trend is that every class is “broken” and “unplayable”, Anet HATES US ALL, and THIS GAME SUCKS- THEY BROKED MY CLASS!!!!!

Bwahahahaha!!! My sides were splitting, seriously. I guess it doesn’t help that all the people, each and every one of them, that were whining and crying on these forums typed their responses like they dropped out of the sixth grade. I digress, however

I just thought I would share my observations with you guys and I’m hoping that we can start some sort of positive feedback for the developers at Arena Net. After all, they’ve marketed a great product that has brought at least me, and hopefully a majority of others a lot of fun and entertainment.

I’ll catch you guys later, I’m off to troll some mouth breathers before I actually go into the game!

I like the game. I figure no one posts about LIKING the game on the forums, because they’re all playing the game.

It’s not really an exotic armor when it’s obtainable with coin currency rather than with tokens or karma that require you to go certain events and experience the depths of hell in tyria.

Yep it is. ALL exotic armor was like that in GW1.

Except this is way more money since you don’t also have to hand over materials to help make the armor.

I’m glad to give it to them if I can reduce 3 bags to 3 slots. (Yes i’m that OCD that I use the right grade tool for the right mat, and keep 2 of each in a bag, 3 bags total.)

I wouldn’t call that the “right” tool necessarily. It’s fine if you want to use the minimum-required tier of tool (and yeah, I agree that’s OCD), but it’s equally “right” to use a higher-grade tool, especially for those who value convenience over cost.

For example, it costs just over 1c/use to use mithril axes/picks instead of copper ones — I’d rather pay that modest amount to avoid keeping track of multiple tools, number of uses, and otherwise micromanaging my inventory.

Yeah I guess that’s true. I did that more in the beginning, but I’ve been getting lazy with copper iron and steel.

P2W in other MMOs = pay to be on top, while in GW2, P2W= pay to be the first on top. And the “convenience” is a word invented by A-Net to replace the P2W as invented renown hearts to replace the kill 10 rats concept, and the scouts instead of the quest log,
They just hired a psychologist to invent words to distract people from the real thing.
Other MMOs are based on gear so that is the general idea of what a P2W is, so people think that of the endgame.
The endgame in GW2 is based on grinding skins to look better, so all they have in the shop is going around that philosophy.
Even the “we don’t think grinding is fun” from their Manifesto has turned out to be a false statement while everything in the game is based on grinding.
Look at this, you cant even finish your storyline like in a normal single player $60 game without grinding between levels.

Uhhhh. are you serious? Convenience was not a word “invented” by anet, having a flashy resource gathering tool does not put you “on top” of anything, and while it’s NOT a single player, you can for sure finish the story without grinding.

Even if you have to grind up a few levels it takes like an evening. If you’re lazy. You ever played final fantasy? Did you know you have to grind up levels before you can advance the story in that too?

How am I even supposed to pretend to take this seriously?

I can see Skyrim/Morrowind, maybe Two Worlds or something being a good alternative, or even GW1.

That reminds me I never did finish Morrowind, I got way sidetracked doing . . . stuff. Random, gloriously uninteresting stuff like trying to scour the countryside for caverns/dungeons/shrines and tearing through them with Umbra.

Morrowind… oh my god what a game. Skyrim captured SOME of it’s feeling but not all of it.

I remember finding a chest under a bridge near balmora and some coins through some gaps in floorboards, and my mind was officially BLOWN.

The pick is just the beginning There will be the other tools too in some future “Live story” events. The store starts to be full of convenience items which slowly but surely will turn GW2 into a P2W game.

Ok it’s not pay to win. That is an incorrect statement. You said yourself, “convenience items”

No one is winning any harder if they don’t have to check their store of picks to make sure they have enough/proper grade. Does that mean people who buy the Mystic Forge Conduit off the trading post are also paying to win?

Do you know what winning is in this game? Aside from PVP matches, and completing the story, there really isn’t any “winning” to be had. This isn’t like APB where you can buy better more accurate more powerful weapons.

If ascended gear was gems only I MIGHT agree with you that might be pay to win, except ascended gear doesn’t give a huge edge.

don’t just think about mining ori nodes, it’s a convenience item that will mine all ore nodes. saves carrying a few picks around for different nodes, you’ll never run out so no need to check on how many you have before adventuring out and never worry about fighting your way to a rich node to find you ran out of picks and have to do it all again.

This is why this item is worth the $10 to me.

Especially considering i’ve spent $60 on games I don’t even really play after the first week. This pick will be with me for years.

Seriously, just because you don’t like the OP or disagree with him doesn’t mean it’s a troll post. There are plenty of people that have beef with the game.

The OP is however doing more or less the definition of trolling with that post.

It basically is. There’s been a million of these.

If it was the same person, I would agree. However, it is different people and they have all realized that something about this game isn’t fun for them – and they have the right to post about that feeling for the the devs to see without the need of being called a troll.

Honestly I think they’re playing the wrong game. I don’t mean that in a mean way, I mean that in “this game isn’t suited to their long term needs” kind of way.

I just wish more people shared this attitude about the non-fun jumping puzzles.

I agree. I know I’m playing the wrong game. There is, however, very little competition it seems out there in the MMO genre at the moment.

I keep telling myself I want to play The Secret World, but I have unreasonable problems with playing non-fantasy MMO type games.

Actually, I don’t even like MMOs. GW1 was the closest thing to an MMO I played, but I LOVED IT.

I will probably go back to Skyrim and turn up the difficulty meter another notch while waiting for the next good single player fantasy RPG.

I think a lot of people, like me, are in limbo and are bumming around GW2 because it is F2P.

Yeah I think a lot of people need more story or something than what GW2 has… Guild wars had had story, but IMO it’s pretty weak. I’m just here to farm and get loot.

I can see Skyrim/Morrowind, maybe Two Worlds or something being a good alternative, or even GW1.

I totally love that the dev’s take the time to almost every month put in something new to keep us entertained. I don’t always really enjoy the new content but they can’t please everyone just so long as they please some of us its all good.

As a long time gaming person I don’t understand the crying about OMG they might increase the cap because not so long back NO game was released at full cap. Lvls were always released over time so Im all good with new lvls being added. New lvls means new content etc and new goals to make and achieve

Raising level cap doesn’t mean new content, new content means new content.

They just have to design the content for low mid or high/endgame. 20 levels worked just fine in gw1.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I love chaos and dynamics, the things that make guild wars what it is. This game holds a special place in my heart since it is an ever changing world, the thing mmo-gamers really strive for.

You are aware that gw1 never changed right? More like never changing.

While I appreciate the cutesy clouds and terrible graphics are supposed to trigger a nostalgic response from me and make this new content fun, I can really only say 1 thing..

If I wanted to play a mario, I’d be playing mario.

I want to play Guild wars 2. Please spend your resources on content for that game.

Hey op if you don’t kitten-ing want to play it you don’t have to stop posting this kitten on the forums about resources it’s a holiday event that is new and interesting for people that love jumping puzzles people like you make A-NET not want to do anything new and fun because people criticize them so much for fun holiday events that they have. TLDR GTFO if you want to kitten about a holiday event it may relate to mario but it’s not to get the hell out of here

Like i said… no one is permitted to disagree with the jumping puzzles.

I can’t wait til I can play a game of sudoku for some weapon skins. That’d be ok right? Because sudoku is fun and how dare you question fun?!

One can disagree with Jumping Puzzles, just as much as they can disagree with everything. However, a valid response is if you do not like it, don’t do it. i.e. Do not like Dungeons? Don’t do them. Do not like PvP? Don’t do them. Don’t like Fractals? Don’t do them. However, if you have constructive criticism to improve any aspect, then please provide it.

I personally do not like sodoku, but if you do that’s great. If they added a soduku mini game that gave weapon skins, you would not hear me complaining.

Yeah I guess. I’m just sick of seeing them.

Thinking back to some of the GW1 events, they felt more like a party imo.

I don’t feel that so much with holidays in GW2. Instead of literally jumping through hoops for items, we should be chilling in town and goofing off, playing with whatever holiday toys they put in town, and a costume piece relevant to the holiday.

That’s the best holiday event, and honestly I miss it a lot.

Also there used to be the event… and then THE MAIN EVENT which repeated every 3-4 hours, mad king, grenth/dwayna, etc…

It kinda gives the holiday a climax or pinnacle of sorts, rather than just “do it if you feel like”.

You do realize you’re basically doing a guild wars 2 dungeon that just has jumping puzzles and looks different, right? They aren’t wasting resources.

This would be better if it was more like a proper dungeon IMO. Maybe something like a permanent fixture, but more subtle, (like with no SAB mobs in regular game world.)
