Take WoW for example (yes I know, but it’s the best comparison). You get a level 40 Frostsaber. Now imagine if you could only ride the Frostsaber if you were not wearing your armor and the Frostsaber only went as fast as your regular running speed and it only lasted for a few minutes and then vanished and as soon as you were hit with anything, it vanished as well. Then it would be like the Broom in GW2.

You are telling me that my favourite mount in wow, http://us.battle.net/wow/en/item/23720 is not mount at all, because it only went as fast as my regular running speed, my skills are unusable and as soon as I were hit with anything, it vanishes as well? Why Blizzard call all these cosmetic animations mounts???

Because there’s something not quite right with Blizzard.
Which is why i’m on this and not WoW.

Ok first off. Mounts shouldn’t disappear when you get hit. What is up with that?

RE: ocean travel.

Voyage century online? Anyone try that? That involved building big ships and then shooting other ships with cannon balls.

OK, I found this.
Interview with Guild Wars 2 Lead Designer Eric Flannum and Lore and Continuity Designer Jeff Grubb.

“Will be there any other kind of traveling across long distances apart from asura gates (e.g. ship)?”

“Eric: Any of the major (non-capturable) waypoints that a player has unlocked can be travelled to regardless of the distance involved. Prices do vary depending on distance though, and asura gates are free, so a player might find it advantageous to use asura gates in some circumstances. Other than waypoints and asura gates, there will be no other methods of long distance travel such as mounts, ships, etc in Guild Wars 2 upon initial release.”

Ok so while it does not say NEVER explicitly, people are obviously getting their hopes WAY up, and also are deluding themselves into believing that a cosmetic toy is what they want based around technicality.

Sure, if you want be delusional, that’s fine, but don’t run around saying there’s mounts in GW2 because there is not. There is a toy which is part of a costume which is intended for messing around in town, and not at all used in any way which an actual mount would be used.

Actually that quote you posted just proves my point even more, thanks for that. There are mounts in GW2, the witch’s broom is a mount whether you want to admit it or not.

And as for the quote….they said specifically…….

“There will be no other methods of long distance travel such as mounts, ships, etc in Guild Wars 2 upon initial release.”

Leaving it completely open for anything in the future and currently, they specifically chose the words upon initial release because even then they were not 100% sure there will never be any mounts in gw2…

The witch’s broom is a mount, it’s possible we could see more mounts in gw2 in the future end of story…

Thanks for helping me clear that up

That’s like asking a someone out on a date and if they’re all like “well maybe….” and you automatically assume that means a world of possibility is opening up before you.

I would bank on there being boats over land travel if I HAD to choose a “mount” that they MIGHT make in the future. Then that would open up ocean areas, and would be more interesting than driving a horse over the same old terrain you walk on.

That witches broom is NOT a mount. Not even close.

NO! No mounts! Can we all just stop talking about this?

Dude one day there will be mounts, its to easy to monatize ((they could make more bank)) and there’s just to much call for it.

If implemented correctly (some GW2 kinda way) it will not brake your game and it will not make it less fun. Deal with it.

Guild wars was not made for mounts. They’ve said this explicitly. Deal with it.

Break. You meant to say break.

No they have not, stop falling back on lying because you’re unable to defend your opinion. They have said they will never have flying mounts because it ruins the games sense of scale, and that regular mounts are not currently planned or being considered.

Or necessary. They are totally unnecessary.

so having a mount with 33% movement speed will make the world smaller but running with a 33% movement speed doesn’t?

i hope to one day hear a logical argument against mounts, because up to now i have not heard a single one.

We have speed boosts and waypoints, Sounds reason enough for me.

All the people demanding mounts don’t care about travelling, they care about showing off with it… i’m pretty certain.

(at least if it’s similar to the halloween broom.)

I think it’s this. A broom, non-halloween based, but with the same functionality. Simply a town-clothes toy. One that doesn’t force your face in a rictus grin!

What do you know what I grin about. Nah honestly I was pretty sad because I didn’t like the witch-costume and so didnt’ bother with it, but I didn’t know that it came with a broom!

I only knew it came with a cat, and that was the reason I got it But a broom as town-cloth toy, I’d buy immediately!

If you played GW1, and you got enough HoM points you get a sweet tabby cat!

I really have to question why the OP made this thread in the first place.

Yes, you can ride the broom. Yes, that kinda sorta means that it’s… a mount.

So what? When Anet said “there won’t be no mounts” they weren’t talking about little broomsticks you can use in costume brawl that disappear after 3 minutes.

Here’s the only thing anyone said so far that I can agree with:

Yeesh. Ironically the logic I find people using to re-enforce to themselves that these brooms are in fact mounts equally pathetic …everyone is so smug about it too, like they’ve got something Anet didn’t want them to have.

Hooray, someone agreed with me! =)

Haha, someone’s grasping at straws here.

There is a difference between using something for its intended purpose and abusing something. You want to mount your cat, by all means, please do so. Better be one big kitten cat.

Honestly I think the people grasping at straws are the ones insisting their virtual ride-alongs are mounts.

The ACTUAL purpose of the broom is skills for costume brawling, but I guess everyone forgot that.

You ride it. It is therefore a mount.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mount?s=t

“a horse, other animal, or sometimes a vehicle, as a bicycle, used, provided, or available for riding.”

The broom is a mount by pure definition of the word “mount” in the english language. Cosmetic or not is not important, it is still a mount.

Learn the language you speak, people.

Regardless… you’re technically not riding anything. You’re still walking, but with a different animation. The walk/run key still functions even. :P

But as long as it’s not a mount.

You know the thing is, many people get mad if you only use the word “mount”, no matter how you call this broom thing, it does what mounts do. They are there you can sit on it and go around with it,. The only difference is that it has a very limited use. If people call it “a mount” so let them do it. Noone ever said, well this way it would be an ok way for mounts to be implemented, as long as they don’t break immersion to much (like a flying elephant prolly does^^).

But instead people are arguing about words. The thing must not be a mount, under no circumstances. Really I would like to see more options like this broom in the future. And if some call it a mount, who cares?

Exactly! haha iv been using the word mount for ages now with the broom and the logic some people are coming out with to say it is not a mount is laughable…just pathetic…

Wezzz mustzz havezz nooo mounts in gw211!!1!!!11!!

It looks like a mount, feels like a mount, act’s like a mount but it’s not a mount because of …….“whatever we can make up here that does not hurt our little world of no mounts”

Its pretty funny how some are reacting and trying to argue against it lol.

The witch’s broom is a cosmetic mount, it gives no advantage and no speed boost but it is a mount and it is purely cosmetic.

Mounts are already in GW2. These Riding Brooms will probably be an extention of that. There creeping it in like they did ascended items.

Ascended Mounts are next!!111!!! Coming to a gem store near you!11!!

Yeesh. Ironically the logic I find people using to re-enforce to themselves that these brooms are in fact mounts equally pathetic …everyone is so smug about it too, like they’ve got something Anet didn’t want them to have.

In Lord of the Rings Online there’s an option to enable/disable any musical sounds coming from other players (this game also allows players to play musical instruments). I don’t see why the same option can’t be available here. I also don’t see why anyone would oppose such a suggestion. Telling people to move away or disable their game sound is about as unhelpful as telling people not to use their bells in the first place.

See there we go!

Also that’s neato that lotro has instruments. I remember playing Two Worlds and was kind of excited at the instruments, but the mini games for them were pretty hard. =/

Really? Just got to another spot or mute your sounds.
What’s being requested in this thread is utterly selfish and and a real kick in the balls for the people who own a set of bells.

So it’s not selfish for someone to expect other people to vacate areas or lose the ability to hear all music/ambient sound in the game because they want to spam “DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING” over and over? Instead, asking for a PERSONAL toggle which would stop the annoying town clothes sounds from being heard only by that single character is the selfish option?

All I can say to that is…

So it’d be ok to just walk up and call you names over and over again? I mean you can always just move or plug your ears, right?

I’m sorry, but… aren’t you agreeing with me?

What this is about.

After listening to 3 people play their choir bells in Lion’s Arch at the same time I became annoyed at the lack of ability to tune them out. Choir bells add little to no value to the game and frankly only serve as an annoyance to other players the majority of the time.

What are us annoyed folks going to do about it?

Form a group APACB (Angry People Against Choir Bells) Our demands are simple, allow us to toggle off choir bell sound or make the item so only as to be heard by the players party or squad if a commander.

These demands have been made before and A-Net has done nothing about so we will force them to do something about it.

Just like every other bunch of angry people we form a mob and protest. You ask how? We use the very thing that annoys us the dreaded item known as the choir bell. Now that server guesting is implemented. We are able to group together and form a mob in LA on servers and spam those choir bells. A-Net will have to take notice and do something about those choir bells. The public will complain and we will tell them why we will put enough pressure on A-net to something about those unbreakable choir bells.

Once I gather like gather enough like-minded people we will form a guild and mobilize I will edit this post with details

Many people agree choir bells are annoying. A few reasons why many people find choir bells annoying: They are bells and their sound is not appealing as most musical instruments. People do not want to listen to bads play. Even if the player of the bell is good they are disturbing our game play environment and the feel of the game cities. Make our cities peaceful or else nobody will have any peace.

Finally if you support this cause post to keep this Thread up with how choir bells have annoyed you

I’m with you on this. “Turn off your sound”, from the mouths of players, is not an acceptable solution for bell spamming.

If this is ok, then it should be fine if I just open one end of a portal and leave it like that, over and over and over in town, so everyone can hear the feedback.

Well the broom is fine.

If people want to fool themselves and think they’re on a mount, then that’s fine too I guess.

It’s just that the game is not designed for PROPER mounts that make you go faster than on foot (the primary purpose for any mounted travel as well as carrying capacity.)

So it’s not really just arguing about words. A mount is one thing, and a cosmetic walking animation is a whole other thing.

Actually seige devourers were pretty sweet, but they were restricted within a three map area and you were almost just as well off outside of one than in one.

Same with the wurms that burrowed through the sulphur. Fun but more like a temporary skill than a legit mount since you couldn’t actually GO anywhere with it.

Just for the record, all Rare armor from the Dungeon vendors look the same. Personally, I preview armor before I buy it. And by my logic, it wouldn’t make sense for them to give you “special looking armor” for 60 tokens. That’s 1 dungeon run.

PS: You’ll never get a refund. Their customer service is very strict on that. The only thing you’ll be getting is a lesson learned.

Yes yes, we’ve established this last night.

What’s wrong with elite armor from one dungeon run? I mean it was just the hat and pauldrons. I thought they were eliminating the grind, but I guess not.

Yes. If it was named Kellogg’s. It was called Nightmare, and wasn’t. That is mislabeling. Labeling isn’t the customer’s responsibility.

Why would you look just at the item name when buying something for the looks? You’ve got a preview feature, use it. If you don’t like the previewed look, don’t buy it. If you buy it anyway, try equipping it first before transmuting it then.

OMG I did… but I thought the cabalist preview was a glitch/bug since there’s so many other bugs about.

I looked up TA armor on a bunch of sites, and none of them mentioned “Oh by the way, the rare armor is just regular armor appearance.”.

Also I figured why would they be selling regular armor at the dungeon vendor?

Yes. If it was named Kellogg’s. It was called Nightmare, and wasn’t. That is mislabeling. Labeling isn’t the customer’s responsibility.

I Miss Running

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ophidic.1279

ophidic.1279

I don’t think there are really any runs like GW1 has because there isn’t the same need for them. Most of the GW1 runs were either to get early access to max level armor (ie. Droks) or to skip missions.

Whereas in this game you can move freely between zones but most of the content is restricted by level. You can’t use max stat gear until you’re level 80 so there’s no point getting it early and you can’t skip your personal story quests.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t make up and do runs. Pick an area you think would be fun to run through and figure out a way to do it. You just won’t get people paying you for it.

(BTW since some people seem confused by the term Running in GW1 meant skipping to or past content. For example you could pay people to run you from relatively close to the start of the first campain to a town near the end where you got max stat armor. It took special builds and in some cases a fair amount of skill to do it because the runner had to avoid or solo any mobs along the way and players expected you to do it ASAP.)

Hahaha I remember I was on a droks run and everyone was dead and were spectating the runner and someone got excited and was hounding the guy, and he stopped right at the gate and wouldn’t go in until the offender shut up, lol.

Well at least we get a broomstick hops on WEEEEEEEEEE- oh wait, no speed boost

Which is rather disappointing that they are releasing a Riding Broom.

The Witch Outfit that came with the Halloween Event was a limited time only costume. It came with a Riding Broom and the only way to get it was to buy it during the Halloween Event. So people that have the Witch’s Outfit, have a unique item that no one else does.

Now they are releasing a Riding Broom that (from my understanding) is the same as the Riding Broom from the Witch’s Outfit. Makes those who purchased the limited time only costume, waste their money. It’s kind of a downer for those that bought the item thinking they had something unique, and then a few months later, they sell the best part of the item to everyone else, making those who bought it before, waste their money on a full costume for the broom while others can just buy the broom separately now.

If you bought the costume just to show off that you have something other players don’t I’d say you missed the point.

I personally don’t care if others have the opportunity to get the broom again, I bought it with money, why should I care if others also buy it with money? shrugs

“It’s a new year, which means all-new items and a redesigned favorite in the Gem Store!

From Baby Quaggan Backpacks to Riding Brooms to the revamped Box o’ Fun, you’ll find it all in the Gem Store!"

Riding Brooms! Can it be anything else than a mount?! maybe even a flying one?

We’ve been asking for mounts since beta, that’s awesome if I you implement them. (But please not just in the Gem Store! )

they had a broom like this that came with the witches costume at halloween, it’s pretty fun for a bit.

Hm, it’s not stated directely. So I hope not, even though I’m not overly interested in bearing Quaggans at my back. I rather want the broom.

Riding broom? Like the one we could get at halloween?

I’m sorry, but what did you expect for 30 tokens? an unique skinned armor piece? People get the full in 3 paths if that were true.

It DID seem a bit odd, but a lot of things in this game seems easier than in the first, so I didn’t think too much of it.

What need to be remedied is the fact people can use a 1 person guild to store item.

There should be a minimum activety or influence requirement to keep a guild operational.

And I’m pretty sure if you are in a 400 guild, “some one” knows that the guild item isn’t transfered. Most of the time there are plenty of guildie server hopping just for map completion. So it is quite impossible for a large guild wanting to transfer server and no one knows the guild itself can’t transfer to another server.

What’s wrong with using a personal guild for storage? You earn the rep, you earn the upgrades. You’ve earn the guild stash. It’s not like it’s just being handed to you.

Yeah ok, great. Read the thread. I did a bunch of looking around, but it obviously wasn’t adequate. Yeah it’s my mistake, but at the time I was certain there was something stupid going on.

That’s why you look it up or ask before you buy. I always do.

Secondly, a lot of people are jerks for no real particular reason. Any problem anyone has ever is met with resistance, and usually everyone is parroting the exact same things about entitlement and how you should have asked the forums.

That’s because this forum is filled with people who have convinced themselves that the game is without flaw, and that everyone who doesn’t think this way is obviously just trying to ruin the game.

Don’t be rude to everyone because of a few people in this forum who aren’t very helpful.

When playing, I consult a number of sites, including wiki, and it shouldn’t be necessary to contact the forums about every mundane aspect of the game. There’s a few examples where the game jerks you around… transferring servers and losing all your guild rep, the bank and everything in it being a good example. YEAH SURE, you could have asked around on the forums, but any normal person would assume that stuff would come with you. Yes, it’s still on THAT server waiting for you, but what good is that?

Pretty sure the devs said that would be the case before the game even came out, actually….and it’s listed on the wiki, as well.

Even so, the decision to design guilds this was still surprised me as well. I think the aim was to make it less ideal to bandwagon to another server for a better WvW tier though.

Plus where did I say I was going to quit the game? Can you quote me on that? I think I said something about not buying gems anymore for frivolous items, but what woud I play if I quit GW2? Diablo 3? HA. No thank you.

Generally the only people who make statements like that are people who weren’t shelling out a lot of cash anyways, or are getting ready to quit and are using this rather hollow threat as a form of extortion to try and get the devs to talk them down from the ledge. In either case, you’re not the audience to whom the Cash Shop is intended anyways and they wouldn’t be hurting too badly if they lost your business, so your next natural course of action after not getting what you want would be the only thing left to you: quitting.

Bottom line: don’t make meaningless threats. The devs very likely do not care if you swear never to buy gems, because they’re making enough money on their target audience to fund the game already. All it does is weaken your position and make people even less inclined to sympathize with you.

Wow, you are very dense. I DO look things up before I buy them usually, same in this case, just I didn’t understand correctly.

Yes I am aware the game has flaws. No i’m not being rude to everyone, just people on their high “shoulda looked it up” horses.

We’ve established that I made a mistake. I thought I looked at enough pages of armor. There were no names, just twilight arbor armor. I dunno, I expected to get the armor in the picture, regardless of rare or exotic, and thought the icons/preview was just incorrect.

I was not aware of the server change thing myself. I managed to deal with that just fine because I looked it up to see if it was a glitch, and oh hay… it was not. Oops. Yeah you’re right…. it’s probably to further discourage wvw team jumping.

Oh, i’m not the target audience of the cash shop huh? How assumptive of you. I’ve only spent 2-3 times the cost of the game in the cash shop, but hey what does that matter, i’m not the target demographic of the cash shop. AND BRO… I never ever threatened to quit. I’m not quitting! I LOVE guild wars. I just thought I was getting snaked on some glitchy vendor, so I was mad.

…and why wouldn’t a company not care if it’s customers plan to stop spending additional money? That’s just bad business. I know every whim can’t be catered to, but I mean we’re dealing with virtual items here and there’s no cost to produce those. I got an Ancient Karka shell and a 20 slot box for missing the chest.
