Also I dunno if this should be in a separate thread, and I left my screenshots at home (im at work), but the glowing effect on my phantasms is a square with my characters face texture, as well as her mouth flat and eye flats.
Oh and the glow shows up as squares when I go invisible too.
Aside from that they work fine on a mesmer.
Yes, thanks so much for the minis anet, omg i was stunned when I saw your in game mail. I appreciate your appreciation! <3 <3 <3
Only drink if you’re of age, & please enjoy alcohol responsibly and in moderation!
Don’t drink and drive and all that grown adult stuff.

I started with nightfall, and enjoyed factions lots.
I would recommend getting Eye of the North no matter what campaign you start with.
The latest case of “farming nerfs” was actually a bug fix. I’m aware of this because I was asked to help identify the issue. The area in question contained a spawn that was defined to have more creatures than spots for those creatures to spawn. So for example, 25 skelks spawning on 10 points. This is not intended. Not only does it just look absurd, it’s also leads to some extremely bizarre play conditions. This is one of those bugs that’s so buggy, the fact that our toolset even allowed this to happen is a bug. Another bug caused this bug. Bugception.
If we didn’t want players to be able to farm, we wouldn’t have put in the huge (and free) magic and gold find buffs for Southsun Cove. We wouldn’t drop loot from the giant mobs of creatures that appear in upscaled events. We certainly wouldn’t have put in chests that appear after events which cycle every 8 to 10 minutes. How quickly all of that content goes completely forgotten in the angered responses to a simple change to an area that was clearly bugged. :/
On farming in general, there’s a sweet spot that combines good loot with fun, engaging content. I think Southsun had that going for it, especially before certain aspects of the content were isolated as optimal. As someone who’s actively working on upcoming Living World releases, I’m aiming to find that sweet spot and hit it in a big way.
Wait, there’s free magic and gold find buffs in southsun?
I did NOT notice this at all.
Good thing there’s this complaint thread I guess.
We made sure to allow enough achievements so that if folks who didn’t want to do PvP or jump puzzles would still be able to get the full meta achievement completed, and get the backslot items (we did that for the sample collection as well, only requiring 10 of the 11 samples to complete the achievement since one of them is more difficult to get to than others)
Everyone likes different things, so we try to make a little something for everyone. Its okay not to like something, just don’t do it. There’s still plenty of stuff on the island to do, and more to come in the weeks ahead.
Thank god for that, because I was all gonna do crab toss and then it was like high school football all over again. Running around for 30 minutes to get the ball for less than 5 seconds.
I appreciate that you guys made enough achievements so people have a choice of activity. MAAAAYYYYYBEEEEEE you could do that for people that don’t like dungeons? Can there be an map event like a dragon or the frozen maw instead of another dungeon? I hate dungeons.
Alright, maybe I’ll look like one of the few ‘whining’ about this. You can also choose to throw some insult at me. Though, I’m really just trying to have a debate about a possible issue; whether or not the Southsun Stalwart title has much less honor than it could’ve had.
Why? Because of how a lot of people used a mesmer portal to get to the islet.
I did the jumping puzzle; I know a lot of other people did it too. We can of course take pride in that and have that ‘yes, I did it!’ feeling.. but we can’t really use the Southsun Stalwart title to show it. Now, people, don’t say something ridiculous about boasting is bad or whatever. Titles are there to show your accomplishments; but anyone who did everything fairly can’t show any other accomplishment than those who used a portal.
(Edit: I’m also aware that the title is for completing 25 achievements; but I personally feel that it only requires 24 if you use the portals). What do you guys ‘n girls think of this? Do you think using mesmer portals is cheating, or do you think it’s fair? What do you think Anet could’ve done differently?
I personally believe that the jumping puzzle (if anything) should’ve had a separate achievement and separate title, neither of which counted toward the ‘overall’ Southsun achievement/rewards. Unless there was an ‘ultimate’ achievement for completing all plus the puzzle.. (Edit: To clear up, the issue is not about ‘the jumping puzzle not having an achievement/etc. of its own, but that it can be ’done’ too easy and counts toward a larger achievement).
At very least, putting an object, required for an achievement, (which again is required for a reward and a title), at the end of a hard jumping puzzle, is only going to make people want to find an easier solution.
Edit: Having to include (for some reason that frankly isn’t very obvious to me, but maybe I didn’t make it clear enough) that this is meant as a discussion/debate about whether or not this is okay, and what you think about the issue. Is it an issue? Did you jump or use a portal, and what does it mean to you? (So on. That kind of questions..)
Used a portal because jumping puzzles have no place in this game. I did the rest of the work.
It’s no worse than getting ran across a bunch of maps in guild wars 1. Just looks worse because it’s “teleporting”, and teleporting looks like cheating at the best of times.
Please do consider selling a permanent crafting station for more gems and I’m sure more people would be more interested in this.
What, so people can leave crafting stations laying around mucking up the scenery?
I tipped 5 silver for a portal. I dunno if that’s too much or if it’s insultingly low. I have no basis for comparison.
In my experience, as a mesmer who offers portals quite often, every bit is appreciated. Most of the time, people don’t pay you anything. At the same time, it’s not necessarily high- I’ve gotten about an average of 10-15s from people who actually did tip, with a personal record of 10 gold from a single tip.
Long story short- a bit less than my personal average, but no amount is too little to be insultingly low
Also, my sylvari- tried to match the colors of the flower itself as best I could, while going for a sort of “nobilty” look. The colors themselves could probably be better, but regardless….
Ahhh good. I didn’t want to leave anyone grumbling about it. I guess the difficulty of the puzzle is a factor too, but I have no basis for that since I never do the puzzles myself.
Also, armor is looking good with the flower. ;D
I am just loving both these skins. Top notch.
The goings on in Southsun cove are much easier to digest since it’s all in one map.
I also appreciate not being required to do skipping stones to get the censer, even though plenty of people offer portals (which I took advantage of.)

Wow i’m late to the thread.
It’s weird, I go to those vendors all the time, maybe i’m just not paying attention. Probably that.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats#Back_Items
All the level 80 exotic ones other than the ghost eaters hide and the fractal generators can be bought from the temple karma vendors in Orr, one in each temple.
Thanks as well. I’ve been looking to get some exotic back pieces to transmute some decorative skins on to.
Yeah, as i have 7 level 80s this really sucks kitten
Basically I’m picking 3 characters that i like most and just gearing those up… the rest will just have to wait.
7 alts? god why bother? Alts are kind of a waste of time.
Honestly, you should be able to complete your daily by doing whatever you want, no matter what it is..not even choosing from a list(which isnt entirely bad either). Out in the world mining nodes? Out in the world killing things? Out in the world discovering places and map completing?
The XP you earn, from crafting, from materials gathering, from exploring, from dynamic events, from dungeoning, etc…that should determine if you get your laurel for the day.
Set it at something like 5000 XP or something…Complete two or three dynamic events, and youre done. Farm a specific monster for a specific material for an hour, you’ll probably be done…takes longer but thats what you want to do! Craft all night? Probably be done in no time. Simply playing the game you’re way, the way it was intended…not checking off items on a list.
It’s already super easy to do, how much easier do you want it?
I DO want to dance but I want the music and a emote… /dance 1, /dance 2 etc…
Not a skill bar with mini dance moves…
/dancespecial =)
i just dont like the idea how they keep on adding bilion things into the store
Uh it’s how ftp games make their money, how is this even debatable???
Entitled feeling people with no business sense.
The whole thing was really uninteresting and extremely frustrating.
Amen to that, buddy.
20 emotes isn’t almost zero. Everyone gets a free dance…other dances are sold in the store. I’m not sure what more you expected?
compare to any OUTER mmo its low and compare to gw 1 is EPICLy low i know we got no subs but that store got bilion things and arena ent is greedy and greedy whit each patch they add more things there and teh gold for gem is no WAY 4 gold for 100 gems
Use a spellcheck for the love of god.
I’m on Piken Square and I am noticing a steadily decreasing level of RP activity here.
A large amount of the people I know who came to GW2 mainly for RP have packed up and left (some even gone back to WoW) because like most MMORPGS, GW2 just isn’t really suited for RPing, and no matter how good of a RPer you are it feels like you are having to work against the parameters of the game.
We are such a small community that why should they care?Seems like MMO developers in particular rarely seem to understand that the RPG bit in MMORPG means ‘ROLE-PLAYING GAME’. Just because a game has Dungeons and Dragons doesn’t make it a RPG.
GW2 is more of a fantasy action/adventure game than anything.
I could make a list of RPer specific issues but I doubt anyone would care.
Here’s to hoping ES:O and Neverwinter give us what we are looking for!
Hey, did you know that RPGs and CRPGS are 2 different things? Computer games don’t owe anyone a “real roleplaying experience”
How about….
1: Chat box control please? /emote is DARK GREY for frak’s sake. Let us change colors.
2: Make /block actually block emotes, so we can control spam.
3: Make /say and /emote ranges actually make sense.
4: Give us real user-controlled culling sliders, so we don’t have people vanishing in the middle of big rp gatherings
5: Chat-logging functionality would be nice (also useful for combat logging, i guess)
6: User Channels for communities
7: Housing and/or more interactive spaces in towns.
8: Sitting poses that actually work on….you know, chairs.
Oh my god are you flippin’ serious? Go play Playstaion Home, or Kaneva.
Hey A-Net.
I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 since release now and am a very active roleplayer in the community.
I will cut the pleasantries and get straight to the problem. The roleplaying community in Guild Wars feels vastly neglected and not cared about by the staff and developers of Guild wars. Yes – you do try and cater for all markets and peoples but by neglecting to see the potential in a community that cares deeply for your games lore, art, design. They make up a fairly large player base in Tarnished Coast and sporadically on other servers. These people and myself care for the game and want to nurture it to greatness .But as we have seen from the developers so far, is that everything they have promised us. Everything that made GW1 great – is being removed.
- Guild Halls – removed, until further notice. We have heard from the staff themselves that they have no intentions of working on them.
- Epic end game stories and expansions removed.
- No promise of new playable races or classes.
*Denying new areas until ‘PVP’ is perfected.- Removing important cultural aspects of GW from the game to create a more ‘unified’ and ‘Culturally sensitive’ community.
- Lore updated so slowly.
- No promise of an official RP server for the thousands of roleplayers.
Please, If anyone has anything to add. post away. I’d love to hear your opinions! <3
Except no one makes video games for roleplaying, so there’s no “discrimination”, people just expect too much.
I keep seeing this type of post, here and in a few other threads about this particular dungeon. All these people that aren’t comfortable with grouping with strangers in fear of getting chastised. Maybe I’m just very lucky but I have never, in the entire time I have played this game, come across a single impatient, angry, raging, abusive player. Everyone has been more than understanding if you fall short during the dungeon run.
Have your experiences really been this bad that you need to advertise on the official forums to avoid these types?
maybe Anet needs to have a report function for abusive players. They seem to be scaring off people from doing the content.
Sometimes it can get ridiculous. I’ve had some CRAPPY groups in the past.
Nothing abusive really, just elitist, impatient, or just plain old bad at playing.
I feel that the lack of playing around with builds is so missing in gw2.
In gw1 there was nothing better then mucking around with the selection of a secondary skill set to make your toon more interesting to play.
I feel that there isn’t enough choice of skills with the weapon setups locked and the rest don’t have enough diversity .
I do hope that the devs will see that this is a point that should be addressed to make the game more diverse to play.
YES! 100% yes!
I have ran this dungeon with my level 20 warrior and hardly had any trouble with this dungeon besides being downed once or twice. Only reason why I never could get into a pug group is because they see level 20 and start whining about contribution to party that dungeon isnt made for low levels. Got kicked out of one at the end in the middle of boss because I proved them wrong where they died more than I have.
Real challenge is finding a pug that doesnt run on stats and big heads.
They kicked you out because you proved your usefulness?!
headdesk MAN, some people. =(
You were probably unlucky with your team setup or were with people, who had never done it before. Once you know the mechanics, it is actually really easy. The boss fight is still challenging, but once you are on top of jumping waves and dodging red circles it really is not that difficult. Maybe try looking for an experienced group!
Pretty much this. Only times I’ve had pugs fail is when no one communicates or cooperates. Then people start getting frustrated and bail and it’s all downhill. Other end of the spectrum it’s smooth as butter…even the boss.
Yeah this is the problem with all this forced dungeon nonsense.
I can’t even learn the patterns in the normal dungeons because I either have to waste my evening standing around, or wiping.
Is it just me, or is the dungeon almost impossible? I’ve “done” it 3 times, one where we couldn’t even beat the embers, and 2 more times where we couldn’t beat the boss. I don’t want to seem like I’m moaning, but I just find it too hard! And now mostly everybody else has done it, I can find barely anybody willing to do it (This is on Ruins of Surmia, btw). But anyway, why couldn’t there be a solo mode? You know, for baby’s like me.
Solo mode? I WISH.
Do the dungeon and complete it? Or wipe again?
Well since you seems to believe that heroes would be able to help you complete it I suggest actually doing it and in that understanding why they wouldn’t.
They can’t be any worse than some people i’ve seen. At least heros don’t ragequit, and they don’t pull mobs unless you flag them sloppily or leave them on offensive.
I think the Frost is likely the cold-shoulder reaction a major chunk of the player base is going to give to any future content if their only options are going to be ‘Run a forced-group dungeon or have your entire effort be worthless’. Just before I logged in last night, I was considering buying some more Gems and getting stuff in the store. Not a chance in Hades I’m going to bother doing that now, though.
If you don’t like grouping up, do the dungeon solo? Will take you longer, but it’s absolutely doable. So…go for it?
There was a large group of vets right at the start. How is that doable? I can’t imagine it would get any easier further in.
While things are happening in the Shiverpeaks, I have yet to see anything “frost” based. All enemies use fire. Fire tornadoes, fire shields, fire weapons. The reward gauntlets while a very cool idea to give a unique armor piece as a reward this is also fire?!
With CoF and Destroyer already having the lava/fire look it would’ve been awesome to see either frost like we see on most of Jormag’s minions or maybe black smoke wafting from the weapon/gauntlets vs a traditional fire again.
Can we expect with our personal Nemesis and the story of F&F not completely finished (we still don’t know exactly why or to what purpose the Dredge and Flame Legion teamed up) to see something more along these lines opened up?
Yeah… I’d like my old glacial gauntlets back pls.
Did you ever flag your heros and remaining henchmen strategically? They get WAY better than normal dummy AI.
Yep.
As I said: Do the dungeon before talking about it.
Do the dungeon and complete it? Or wipe again?
Yes, I love nothing more than failing a dungeon over and over until my evening is completely wasted away.
Christ, I just wish I could bring heros like in olde tymes and be done with it.
As I said: Try it before you complain about it.
It is fully possible to do with a pug and without even talking to each other. And had you actually done the dungeon you would have known that heroes would simply die again and again and again and again and again in this dungeon, since it requires things that the AI can’t really handle.
Did you ever flag your heros and remaining henchmen strategically? They get WAY better than normal dummy AI.
MMOs are for that.To meet new people and to group up
No, that’s what quest party chat is for.
Please explain how I’m being selfish by helping friends and complete strangers in dungeons, that’s just so confusing.
Why should MMOs play like an offline single player game? GW2 is a very social game.
Not everyone feels like being social. I shouldn’t HAVE to be social just because a lot of people like it.
They have all kinds of scaling systems in place, and there’s NO REASON they can’t apply a scaling system to a dungeon based on how many are in the party. They do it with world events, they COULD do it with dungeons, but choose not to.
so running the open world with others don’t count for you ? 10-30 mins ? don’t u play a tank or healer instant queue :P. they made open world not require party play so why force it in dungeons. again the MMO seems to translate to party only content to you, while going dailies how many ppl do you interact with that’s what the MMO is not omg I need 4 other ppl now to finish what I started…. its a dated concept.
Yeah this… I hear all about how there’s no partying required and all this… but then oops, yeah it actually is required here, here and here.
I don’t care what anyone says. I shouldn’t have to rely on anyone to progress my story or get fancy armor.
Might I suggest you actually try to do it with a pug group? The instance itself is very pug-friendly and extremely well done.
Yes, I love nothing more than failing a dungeon over and over until my evening is completely wasted away.
Christ, I just wish I could bring heros like in olde tymes and be done with it.
Well. I say challenge, but I really mean “the thing you have to do” since the instance is no trouble at all.
Oh god yes the heralds.
See that would cut it in say Morrowind. In an MMORPG, what I want to hear is: “go to X, talk to Y, kill Z.”
And yet quite a few people prefer to figure out stuff themselves without the game server everything on a silver platter.
If you want to get exact directions there are several guides out on the internet that tells you exactly where to go and such.
Except it’s not on a silver platter because the challenge should be the actual content… not finding where it is located.
Also… some people don’t have time to run around taking in minute detail of these things. I haven’t watched one minute of story since I started playing gw2. Not only do I not have time for it, it’s not nearly as captivating as it was in the last game, IMO.
Yes a guide usually helps, but in this case I was unaware I had not completed a prerequisite so it wasn’t helping at all.

/wiki Flame and Frost
Type that in chat and it will give you access to the wiki-page about the event. The most important part in your case is the entry about Heralds, which will tell you what is going on.
Although, if I just did all the bits in one night instead of leaving and coming back, I probably would have figured it out faster.

I don’t have many complaints with this game, but when I do it usually involves either a jumping puzzle, or some kind of “story” where I have to do something silly that isn’t killing mobs and farming mats.
The stories are way less interesting than guild wars 1 and I just want to get them over with so I can get whatever loot is offered, and move on.
So like a week or so ago, I did some living story stuff, 2 meetings and some instance with some charr. I came back to it and was having trouble since the one map marker I have in wayfarer foothills is telling me to go into an instance where the doors are closed.
AFTER like an hour of piddling around and looking at stuff talking to a bunch of useless NPCS, a guildie tells me there is a second meeting with that norn guy. There was no map markers or anything unless you were in the same map as the markers.
I’m just observing that these pretty forgettable npcs are doling out some pretty forgettable quests, and without a proper quest log, it can be difficult finishing or even mustering up the care to bother trying to finish these types of things.
I can go back to Guild Wars 1 right now and pick up quests I’ve taken over three years ago and know exactly what to do and who to speak to, and it took me a like a week to forget current quests, with only an achievement I was not aware of and a pile of scattered NPCs with vague dialog to assist me
Plus the 2nd meeting I was supposed to go see was in hoelbrak. I mean, who even goes there unless you’re a norn at the beginning of the game? There was no way I would have seen that meeting if my guildmate didn’t tell me about it.
TL;DR: Proper Quest log plz.

Wait, there’s stuff going on in southsun?
How anyone has the patience to read and retain the information from all these boring NPCs is beyond me.
Just read over at massively that the living story ends with a 5 man instance. What a disappointment for all those out there who won’t go near that sort of content.
This feels exactly like the pain of the personal story.
You could do the entire 1-80 personal story solo except for the final mission where you suddenly had to go into a dungeon. I still don’t know how my story ends….
All the living story content has been doable solo so far, and I have very much enjoyed it – please don’t make this ending a 5 man! I am all for 5 mans being used for content just not for the culmination of a plot line that has been open to everyone so far.
I love GW2 but I would rather just logout then be forced into dungeon play.
Yeah same thing. I thought I had two instances to do, I did one… then this update happened with the stupid dungeon and now I go to where the story marker is but nothing happens and there’s nothing going on in the instance. To the south, there’s ANOTHER dungeon where i’m forced to party with people.
Jumping puzzles or dungeons… that’s all it is with these people.
Why play an MMO if you don’t like to play with people?
it’s fun on it’s own without people most of the time
Seems like cities are way too confusing with too many levels.
Had a really hard time running around, finding things.
Maybe the cities should have just two levels max or simply flat.
Most are fine, Charr-town or whatever is complete garbage. I STILL have to complete that stupid city.
