Hard and Frustrating are two different things.

Yeah… I’ve been playing Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams and that is some pretty brutal platforming… frustrating at times but feels hard for the right reasons. This SAB while stylistically nice, just frustrates me to the point where I don’t even want to play regular GW2 when I come out. I wish it didn’t. =(

Yeah I can’t be bothered to finish the first world. I’m glad this is just as crappy as it was the first time around, running about getting lost with no obvious direction on where to go. I don’t like just making jumps if i’m not sure that’s even the direction i’m supposed to be going.

They’re not even brown, they’re primarily red.

You don’t need ascended gear to play, you need to know how to kite and dodge and think ahead. That’s more powerful than any ascended.

Anet should learn to put ‘rare’ items in challenging content instead of ALWAYS being craftable inside mystic toilet or crafting stations. GW2 is becoming a Craft Simulation game and i don’t play an MMO to craft all my %$#& and then stand in a city asking myself why i spent so much time/money crafting an item when there’s no content to be experienced with it.

Want a legendary? buy one off the tp (or buy 90% of the mats and “grind” the skillpoints/karma needed) want minis? buy them off the tp. Want anything? buy it off the tp.

As I can read we have two groups. One group who thinks this is a grind game and another group who doesn’t think this is a grind game since they already have what group 1 wants. Hmmm, people can be so strange and false informed. As far as I can see is that people just love to complain and that Anet can do nothing good except when it’s exactly what they had in mind. Yes, sadly we are that spoiled. There is grind in GW 2 but not required to do to get something. If you just play the game for fun you can get everything. It might take a little longer but you can get it. Prizes will drop and you can buy it from the TP or be lucky enough to get it while playing. What I am saying is, doing be a spoiled brat that only had to pay 50 €/$ or so to play a game that gets a lot of new updates for FREE! Lots of other games cost as much and you are done with it after 25 hours… There are going to be changes you like and don’t like. And yes share your opinion about it but please with less drama.

I know, I know. You use to play a game that was never any fun at all. You spent all your time breaking rocks in a desert. It took 6 months of toil until you were able to try to fight a your first boss. The boss has a .00001% chance of dropping a shard. 7,000 shards could be combined into a fragment. 10,000 fragmets made a piece or armor. Whatever.

Why would you play such a game?

What kind of thing is “log in to win”? did you even think before you posted?, the entire point of this thread is the sheer fact that this will greatly effect the whole WvW game, even to the smaller things as solo/group roaming around because now we have to grind our face off as fast as we can or we’re going to fall behind in gear, whilst also killing off the ability to have multiple effective sets of weapons to build with.

It’s also the fact that us players that just simply log in to enjoy WvW are going to have the burden that we either must farm our face off, be forced to also level up the weapon crafting profession for the class you’re using, just to be able to keep up to par, this is a major down sight and I’m betting it’s going to end up making people simply go inactive, because we like to play this for enjoyment, not farming and crafting for hours.

What else would you call an mmo without the grind everyone hates so much?

Seems like everyone has an opinion on this subject, and I’m curious to know if anyone has any solid factual evidence either which way…

Some people say that GW2 is losing money, that 400,000 active players at any given time is considered “low” for the industry… and that GW2 doesn’t have the cashflow to produce the kind of expansion-pack level content that people are asking for. (and by expansion-pack grade content, I mean new zones, new classes/races, new storylines – not just mini-events)

Other people seem to think that A-net is doing just fine, and has plenty of money coming in from the gemstore and box sales. I read an interview by one of the big buys at A-net and he basically said that the “market was healthy” and that they had no cashflow problems. He also said something to the effect that the Black Lion Trading Post was profitable and that “players were doing their duty” as far as microtransactions go.

Anyway – I’m curious to know what people think about this…. The disconnect for me is that if A-net has the money to produce large-scale content for GW2 and isn’t … why? If they don’t have the money, or willingness to re-invest in GW2 in a meaningful way… what’s the future of GW2?

People often hold up GW2’s free2play model as one of the best/fairest in the industry… is the model working? If so, when can we expect actual meaningful content, such as Guild Halls, new gameplay mechanics, new classes/races?

Some weapons you would need to get items that had a 0.9% drop rate and the monster would only spawn every 72 hours AND you had to fight to get the monster while 19 other people were camping trying to kill it. So yeah this is nothing.

And then that game is part of history and failed miserably in the west (like all korean grinders)

You Pro dude! LOL, getting a Legendary weapon for most people will take about 6 months. I have played many MMO’s and I have never encounter an item that took that long to get.

I put 200g down into crafting to try to get a dusk in the mystic forge and never got one, then they go ahead and increase the crafting cap to 500.

That’s basically 150 hours of completely wasted time spent in the game. I left this game for 2-3 months and I think I’m gonna leave permanently if this is the direction the game is going in.

Why should I put more time in this game if my time is being wasted playing it. Give me an answer ANET.

Anet encourages playing it wrong (aka. grinding). They have shown that with every update. Grinding is the only way to get anything at all in this game.

Grinding is the only way to get anything ever. Man, if GW2 is bad for you, then you’re gonna hate mortgages and car payments.

As annoying as those bible people are, they are entitled to voice opinions and whatnot.

This is the first MMO/online game that I have been so frustrated over due to broken promises or grey promises. No other dev has made such bold statements prior to launch. Other devs simply say “We will have dungeons, there will be raids. There are three factions where you can acquire better gear. There will be guild housing”. Arenanet said “There will be no grinding”…depends on your definition I guess? “There will be no treadmill”. Depends on your definition of treadmill? “The champion you killed wont spawn 10 minutes later” Oh, I guess you should have said you were referring to personal story.

No other dev aside from GW2 made such bold promises to the playerbase prior to launch to lure them in. Now that we see these promises or statements were just a few shades of grey, it infuriates a lot of people and people are walking away from it, especially with this patch.

God, if there was NO GRINDING, NONE AT ALL, it would just be “here’s your thingy” go out and floss like a gangsta and maybe do some content if you can be bothered.

No grinding to get on level ground with other players. And a few extra stats doesn’t give you an edge, being a good player gives you an edge.

Getting that ancient wood and orichalcum is going to be ridiculous… I just farmed for it myself and only found 5 nodes combined of both materials.

Ancient wood is pretty easy to get and salvaging helps with orichalcum.

When I heard you could salvage for ectos I was all like NO WAY because in GW1 they were super expensive. Turns out you can get 3 at a time from a yellow!

Made farming ectos easy peasy, salvaging cheapo yellows.

If only ascended and legendaries didn’t have extra stats like fancy skins in gw1. then you know you are grinding for looks and people wouldn’t be complaining because my chaos axe and elite armor has the same stats as default plain jane axe and armor.

If the grind is too hard, then that stuff ain’t for you.

Most of that is regular mats anyway. There’s only a few things I don’t recognize which must be new.

Multiple boosters would be bonkers.

It was per character in guild wars one, but you only got a minipet from the minipet series that matched your character’s age. 1 year = series 1 minipet, 2 years = series 2 and so on.

In short, I don’t know, but it was per character in gw1.

This is totally our fault, we dropped the ball on this plain and simple. We planned to have this messaged ahead of time to be fair to everyone, communication broke down between those who knew it was supposed to be messaged, and those who were supposed to message it and it simply didn’t happen.

As game director this is ultimately my fault first and foremost, and I’m sorry for those who potentially lost some karma as a result. It is our policy to message these kind of changes ahead of time with lots of warning, I’ll do everything possible to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.

I’d recommend not using your karma consumables yet, give us a day or two to try and see what options we have available to help mitigate the issue.

I really appreciate this kind of honesty. And in a forum post too, not some dumb press release. Another good reason besides the stellar gameplay to stick with guild wars for a long time.

mesmers are only really picked in dungeon groups for portal, feedback, and timewarp.

Unless you played a mesmer before in GW1 and know that they’re the top of all classes. The classiest class, and the overall best class of every class ever.
