Might stacking with Bountiful Interruption could be interesting. It doesn’t mention any internal CD so staff #5 and GS #5 could potentially grant a ton of might if thrown on a group.

Phantasms are still strong… debatable stronger imo. Base HP buffed, SoI even though nerfed applies immediately. iZerker fixed, so phantasm speccs can now do reliable AoE damage.

I don’t think we’re pigeonholed into a x/x/x/x/25 specc. It will be a little rougher without the reduced time on skills, but not game breaking. We got some decent buffs and bug fixes that we’ve been waiting forever on. Some things were nerfed, some buffed. This patch I don’t think is good or bad overall. I’m excited to pick up a GS again!

Eh, I don’t really like these changes all that much… but I think my phant Mesmer will still be strong… stronger even in a group. Now I just gotta figure out what weapon sets to use now that iZerker is viable again (or so they say).

I was hoping that conditions would be viable again with this patch, but just adding a torment on a block I think will be too unreliable to have any effect beyond 1v1s. My optimism for condi mesmers was misplaced.

Casual mindless zergs would get rolled by 5 man organized, more skilled groups. I’m completely for this, but it’s already evident that when the casual bandwagoners start losing and dying, they leave WvW. I’d be all for it, but I don’t think Anet would want the casuals to end up never stepping foot into WvW.

heres how you deal with downed state. when you see someoen getting ressed, you aoe the guy ressing him.

now you have 2 downed.

Good small teams use the rally mechanic to their advantage

they bring res skills
they bring skills to help them finish
they coordinate their ressing and finishes and don’t mindlessly spam damage.

If you are small grouping without considering how to make downstate work for you instead of against you, you need to rethink your approach.

With that said, I still think the downed state and rally system is bs and doesn’t have a place in PvP. This topic though has been pretty exhausted since beta, haha.

I mean, I would love for downstate to be removed in PvP situations. But if they were to do that, I guarantee the amount of cries from the mindless zerging noobs that don’t like dying would flood the forums and Anet would probably backpedal. Just what I think would happen!

As someone that likes to hit invaders with that mortar from Bay, its not done to wipe, but to annoy and make larger groups break up. Of course it won’t dish out enough to kill a handful of players.

And don’t forget, if you’re hungry you can be eating a burger in one hand and still be playing super efficiently and skillfully using your other hand and 3 buttons. Or you can be doing other things with your real life off-hand that we shall not discuss any further.

EDIT: Actually, let’s discuss it… you can be writing a very nicely written and well documented journal of your burger-eating-cannoning people running by session that preceded your journal entry-cannoning people running by session.

Edit #2: and then you can grease the door knob and yank the chain while thinking of all of your burger eating, journal writing, monkey spanking-cannoning people running by sessions.

I think the main thing this game is missing which it seems like people aren’t mentioning here is any meaningful progression. There’s really no incentive to play. Add some WvW cosmetic armor even, make it based on a rank, scale ranking with the amount of people you play with, (the more people around you in a fight, the slower it is to rank) give something players can work towards that won’t effect balance at all. Or make it effect balance, I wouldn’t mind having some WvW skills actually worth a kitten .

2. People spread word that fight night is no longer safe or fun.

So people will only fight in situations that show skill if it’s a safe environment. Seriously, there is close to no penalty for dying. I don’t understand the mindset of some people, normally the mindless zergers, that can’t stand dying. If you’re in a PvP environment, you’re going to die. Don’t like it? Get better at the game. Don’t run away from it. Or do, but just stick to PvE.

Edit: If we were indeed just ganking everyone we saw, (which is not the case) just get a group together and kill us. Chase us out with a zerg. Whatever. It’s really not a hard concept.

Ok, this is a bit ridiculous. God whenever someone gets stomped in fight club it’s like the equivalent of punching a baby to some people. Thank you, Jakare, for not getting upset by the stomps, I enjoyed our fights as well!
Now about the whole “PAXA ganking fight night” ordeal that people seem to have their panties in a knot about. I feel like I was somewhat to blame as when I got there and heard the story of BS not wanting to have any sort of GvG fight even though they had plenty of people, I pushed the idea of forcing a fight. Mind you, I am more of a casual player now and don’t play as much as I used to… when I log on I want to fight, not sit around.
When I got to fight club, there was literally one duel happening and tons of people standing doing nothing. So, we attacked BS and killed others who jumped in. Big deal, fight club went on fine after 15 minutes even with PAXA members still around.

@Saint of Virture: “Not allowing HoD in fight clubs.” lol. Calm down. My goodness.

@Geoski: You spoke of the respectfulness and maturity or lack thereof that Jscull has. Speaking from an objective standpoint, you have to admit that you and Bulky Boy aren’t the complete angels that you’re kind of making yourselves out to be. I understand that there are always two sides to a story, but come on man. Killing PAXA 11 times in a row? I was lucky enough to be there on the night that Jscull described, and that was the most fun roaming night I have had in a while. Great fights with BS. We by no means had an ideal group setup, but it was competitive and fun none-the-less. Your comments here don’t help your cause, as you are showing a lack of respect as well… not only to Jscull but to all of PAXA, while Jscull only shows a lack of respect to you and Bulky Boy.

Anyways, great fights last night a fight night. Bringing a new specc in and testing it out against skilled players is always fun, really shows the strengths and weaknesses of it.

My goodness some of you guys are such pessimists. Anet has been the most vocal about Necros for this upcoming patch with buffs (who knows, there could even be more buffs that they haven’t mentioned yet!) with access to burning, Torment, DS #5… and you still find something to complain about. So quick to complain about things that aren’t even out yet.

Maybe because we’ve played the profession long enough (2,600 hours here) to have a fairly decent grasp of both its mechanics as well as how it fairs when facing other classes. Combined with the relative lack of balancing while ignoring glaring bugs for the past 10 months, there’s a precedent established that should make the level of pessimism come as no surprise.

That said, we can look beyond the surface pessimism at the sub-text. We’re passionate about the profession. We want to see it do well. We love our necros. Aside from a few hours dabbling with a thief and engi just to see how they work, it’s all I’ve played since launch. But it has been an uphill battle for this profession. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as I think overcoming the profession’s short-comings and making it work through determination and perseverance results in a very dedicated, loyal, and skilled group of players.

We’ve paid our dues, though, and it’s high time to allow necros to reach their full potential (which this profession has tons of, but has been held back from achieving due to the issues that have plagued us from day one and which the devs have been glacially slow in correcting.).

There are other classes than just necros that have glaring bugs. Complaining about thieves getting Torment too is a little ridiculous though. It adds more diversity for them, which is a good thing. I for one am excited to maybe see less trolling d/p thieves running around.

Torment should have been a condition for the slower classes, so the more mobile can’t kite. Not for thieves and mesmers that are already a PITAto catch.

I honestly thought this was so obvious.

So much so, that without too deep of an inspection, I just assumed this was the case. It doesnt really make any sense, whatsoever, to me.

Thieves and mesmers dont really need help in running circles around their opponent, they already do it very, very well (even if they arent as OP as some make them out to be).

Like others have said though, maybe we just need to see it in play to make a real judgment of it. As it stands though, it just sounds bonkers to me.

Are you guys being serious right now? If you can’t run away from a Mesmer currently, you are so incredibly bad maybe you should just stick to PvE. Mesmers are good at running away because of chaos armor and stealth, both don’t help at all for chasing people down.
As far as thieves go, I’m pretty certain they’re going to have to sacrifice some of their mobility for access to Torment.

I suppose that’s true if we’re talking on a strictly technical level…but I’d say you have more of a chance of having a 5v5 deathmatch battle (I assume that’s what everyone is all hot and bothered to get) in a sPvP/tPvP match than you are in a WvW map randomly roaming about.

It happens much more often in WvW roaming (at least on lower tiers). sPvP/tPvP I have never seen it unless it was organized to be a deathmatch by the groups. No team is dumb enough to run around with 5 players capping points.

I guess my point was that saying “go to sPvP” to find what we are looking for isn’t a valid suggestion.

It kinda was… I actually am not completely sure since I haven’t been paying attention recently to the custom arena updates… but if it is indeed still in beta then maybe you’d realize that WvW is the only place to get 5v5s. sPvP/tPvP are great for 1v1, 1v2, 1v3. 5v5s don’t happen naturally.

I don’t know everything that came into play, but here are a few reasons:
1. get the guild’s name into the WvW and PvP scene.
2. Provide an alternative to zerging that (we believe) is more fun and just as effective (I think you would agree with this too).
3. After seeing a video of 3 people demolishing a 15 man group, we started to look into creating a small group to help our world (which many times can’t even field a zerg) deal with the badly outmanned situation.

True, but at least it will be a GM trait worth getting. Just think how much condi removal warriors can have with it. Get loaded up with condis? Use the burst. Immediately get loaded up again? Healing surge, weapon swap, burst again. Condis gone. Short cooldown on burst skills, removing multiple conditions… plenty of condition removal.

I would like to see it on the scepter and torch, both highly underused weapons for us. God replacing the chance of vulnerability with torment on the staff #1 would be so amazing, but I think the staff is fine as it is.

I would just like to hop in here and maybe quell the amount of paranoid necros out there. As it is right now, the only skill known to cause Torment is DS #5… we don’t know what other skills have access to this condition in any of the classes (necro, Mesmer, or thief).

Also, we don’t know how this condition works. Do teleports cause instant increased damage of Torment based on how far the character travels? Is it only movement skills like RTL and Rush that will cause more damage of Torment than just running? Is Torment capped to do increased damage based on max run speed? Does it hurt people with swiftness more? Does it hurt crippled people less?

My point is, we have no idea how Torment will cause increased damage beyond it will hurt more while moving. While mesmers and thieves will have Torment, the condition could effect them much more than other classes if it is applied to them as well. Maybe wait until the 25th to see the effects of Torment rather than making paranoid speculations.
I think necros are getting a well deserved buff in this upcoming patch, with Torment and access to burning now too. Pretty powerful imo.

One more thing: How many condi Mesmer and thieves do you see now-a-days? Food for thought.

It is a very fun concept. I will enjoy it. But I am a LITTLE worried about thief (the best mobile class in the entire game) getting an anti movement ability. Kinda makes me nervous.

I’m not. Condi thieves, like mesmers currently, are almost in a laughable state… which is why you don’t see very many. I think this is a good step in creating build diversity for thieves, (as well as mesmers now that they killed our confusion speccs) so you don’t just see a bunch of d/p thieves trolling around.
