I’m here since beta.
And I have to say. U MAD!?
This is just whole new definition of grind.
Lol. Not mad at all. Quite the opposite. Why? U mad?
I guess making it more costly this time is sort of a reward for long time players who were around from the beginning.
Of course, we don’t know how easily the mats will be to get this time around. I feel like the Candy Corn → rare Mats → refined rare Mats conversion is designed to take the loads of candy corn out of the economy.
I like the idea of seeing someone with an item and knowing they were around for a specific halloween or other event (karka shell). I hope they come out with something new instead.
They’ve done a pretty disappointing job of hyping halloween and pumping people up this time around.
Has anyone in this thread every said they wanted something, regardless of how it looks? You could just be sighing over a strawman.
No but the people whining over not wanting the Halloween items to come back seem to only have 1 reason, they want the “prestige”(LOL) of a 1 time only item.
So somewhere, someone said something about prestige and you took that to mean that they didn’t care if they made ugly characters? Riiiight… lol
Prestige items shouldn’t be able to be sold, there is no prestige in purchasing something. Therefore as soon as it goes on the market it loses all its prestige.
So i guess you’re going to ask for legendaries to be handed out for 1 BLC ticket too?
No wonder half the population has ugly looking characters and weapon combos….When did people stop playing to make their characters as awesome looking as possible instead they just want something that is “rare” because it was only around for a couple of weeks. /sigh

It would be fun if they could do an event where you traveled across the world, knocking on hidden doors and getting special candy. It’s probably not going to happen so i was thinking about running a trick-or-treat with my guild by having some directors dress up like the mad king, hide around the maps and give out candy.
Anyone else have any good ideas for how to run an interesting guild trick-or-treat event?
No no no no more instanced dungeons, this is an mmo, make something in the world for a change.
Yeah, they should redo a dragon or making zone invasions or something…
soooooooo when we will get a real dev response on this issue ?
Sorry i don’t have a link handy, but in multiple places, including these boards and in videos, they’ve said they’re aware of this issue and are planning to add more permanent content. In fact, the last 2 updates have been permanent content.
So…
We can have two scraps of fabric serve as an “armored top” but battling in “town clothes” is immersion breaking?
Wut.
Exactly.
<mesmer runs into battle, swinging a greatsword and wearing a piece of cloth>
Immerson Guy: “That’s awesome!”
<warrior then runs into battle, swinging a greatsword and wearing a piece of cloth>
Immersion Guy: “Aw, man. My suspension of disbelief and immersion in this world is totally broken.”
lol…
That’s not an “immersion” issue though. If you can have a mesmer go into a battle wearing a skimpy hooker outfit but then have a problem with a warrior running it with the same outfit, THAT is an immersion breaking double standard from a “realism” standpoint. If the immersion issue is that people can never wear clothes into a fight at all instead of armor, then that was an issue from day one.
Your problem is equating realism with immersion. They aren’t the same & wanting them to be doesn’t make it so.
Perhaps “believability” or “versimilitude” or “consistency” would have been a better term. The problem on these boards is that people like to blame everything they don’t like on immersion breaking, regardless of how much sense it makes in the game world. If one guy can wear cloth and swing a greatsword into battle, it makes sense that some other sort of character swinging a greatsword might be able to do the same. That consistency supports immersion. Saying that it’s fine for one character to go into a fight in cloth but it breaks immersion when a warrior does it sounds pretty silly since the reasoning is completely gamist and arbitrary instead of grounded in the versimilitude of a simulated world.
“Immersion breaking” has become a cheap, trendy term people use in an attempt to give their subjective taste some kind of objective sounding weight.
I think there is an issue or immersion here. Costumes are not armour class specific and so you can have a warrior running around in a silly looking costume.

Would vampire, frankenstein, mummy and wolfman halloween masks be legal or would that infringe on someone’s copyright? Glow-in-the-dark skeleton halloween mask?
All the skins from last year will return….
How do I know this? -The Sept 3rd patch notes….
- •The Mystic Forge recipes for The Mad Moon, Arachnophobia, and The Crossing have been temporarily disabled. They will be updated and return at Halloween.
Edit: Wait..um, grinning moon was the BLC random, wasn’kitten My bad. Don’t know if those will return. Just know the drop/crafted ones from last year will.
I read that as the Mystic Forge recipes would be updated and return at Halloween since the implication is that the “They” in the second sentence refers to the recipes. As in, the Mystic Forge recipes would be updated to spit out the new weapons now. Who knows though, it could be either way. We’ll soon find out.
My Elementalist has 104% critical hit chance and about the same power. I die so quickly in any type of PvP mode, it’s not even funny.
This coming from the guy who will report “anyone running full Berserker and kicking those that don’t?”
Wait… he reports anyone running full Berserker but also kicks those that don’t? So he hates everyone?
I’d respond point by point but it will just get too long.
I’ll give you a hint. Having to buy them from the market was the way selfish people want others to be forced to use to obtain them.
lol. This system was not set up by selfish players to force people to do anything. It was the system that ANET set up to allow people to trade them. Pretending the TP doesn’t exist and that there aren’t people working hard and spending lots of money for these skins right now is completely disingenuous.
Sorry, but you can’t count the effort the slavoring masses used to buy them from the market as the definition of how much effort is necessary to obtain them since the people who obtained them initially put forth zero effort and just got lucky. They feel that since they got it and you didn’t you should be beholden to them to get it and that is entitled.
The “you can’t count the effort people put forth to get money to buy skins” claim is a ridiculous argument. The skins are still there. You can still buy them just like everyone else. Just because you didn’t get one to drop last year doesn’t mean your entitled to pay less than what everyone else now pays.
First off, SAB skins were obtainable every single time you opened each of the three end chests for each of your characters every day. It cost nothing to play and depending on how many characters you had could be done a significant amount each day.
The fact that it cost nothing for RNG chance “A” instead of RNG chance “B” is completely immaterial. In fact, you proposed an absolutely great argument for not having the halloween skins return if the SAB ones aren’t: people who got the halloween skins spent real money so if you undercut the value of their purchase, you’re screwing your paying customers. SAB winners didn’t loose any money.
People legitimately grinded for SAB skins, hell I did and I still only got two.
And plenty of people legitimately grinded for keys and gold for the halloween skins. In fact, anyone who got one this past year had to get gold SOMEHOW to get one. It’s the exact same situation. To bring up the term “selfish” again, it’s incredibly egocentric to hold up your grind as legitimate and then claim that other people’s grinds aren’t legitimate or don’t even exist.
An item that took nothing to obtain…
You keep repeating this like it’s true. People have busted their kitten for these items. If you find a piece of gold on the ground, you don’t get to pretend it has no market value and that people don’t bust their kitten for that same commodity. Do you expect to receive diamond engagement rings for 5$ at the jewelry store because someone could have found that diamond for “free” at some point?
Greedy because you’re forcing people who either weren’t luck or never had the opportunity to pay exorbitant amounts for something that cost you nothing to acquire.
But people that have it now HAVE been paying exorbitant amounts. It’s greedy to want it to come back so you can pay less than what other people have already been paying.
Selfish because you don’t want them to have any other way to get it.
This argument is clearly dead in the water since you can still buy them. Strawman.
Entitled because you happened to get it and still don’t want them to have the same options.
That isn’t even even close to the definition of “entitled”. Entitled would be someone feeling entitled to get a rare skin for less effort or money that what people have been the past year by having more released into the market.
If you want another chance to get a skin other than having to go to great effort to pay for something that took no effort to acquire in the first place because you legitimately want to use it for its appearance and not at a pay day you’re a greedy selfish entitled player.
More like, “if you don’t want to work for gold and pay a high price just like everyone else who has worked for this item in the past year, you’re greedy and entitled.” That’s what it come down to: you’re basically asking to get something for less work/money than lots of people have already invested
I see it the opposite way. Its you’re own fault for buying it at that price, you knew the risk, that it could be re-released next (this) Halloween. You guys (that buy them at that price) could have been patient and waited to see if Anet brings them back. Or for you guys that are trying to make even more money by not having them come back, you should have known there is a chance for them to come back, so try to sell your stuff while its high.
From their posts online regarding things like the jetpack and SAB skins (sell-able RNG skins from a returning event) they’ve presented a strong statement about not making limited time items easier to get in the future, if at all. If they bring these weapons back in a way that’s just as easy or easier to obtain as last year, they’ve completely mislead the community with their posts. It’s not the player’s fault for buying into what they’ve been telling us about handling these types of items.
Why? Because they couldn’t wait the full year till the skins came back again? These skins did come from a holiday event that comes around once a year. It wasn’t like most of the living story parts that are a story and only makes sense to come up once then go away.
Because they said specifically that they wanted to preserve the value and prestige of limited time items by not bringing them back in multiple posts relating to other specific skins that were also limited time and sell-able drops (i.e. had an immediate market value upon release). SAB weapons that were RNG and had a market value is the most prominent example: they specifically said they weren’t coming back even when the the SAB returns in order to retain the prestige and value of the original weapon set. It’s bait and switch if they make a special exception for halloween weapons at this point.
Last year he wasn’t hard but he certainly was fun.
The staff threw me off for a sec because of the angle
I just feel that everyone should have a chance at getting these without paying out the butt for them.
I feel this is awesome approach going forward with new skins from now on. I just think it’s too late for the existing skins though since plenty of people have already paid “out the butt” and it would be completely unfair to undercut their efforts.
Selfish entitled players want everything and don’t think it’s fair that prestige items exist that they can’t get. Except they can: the skins are still availble on the TP.
Oh the cost is too high? So it’s greedy selfish entitled players who are also misers. Nice.
I find that the greedy players are the one’s who ask for gated elite content.
It’s greedier to want something for cheap when other people have already busted their kitten to afford that same item. Currently, the only gate is how much effort you want to spend to get gold and if people want the skins to come back so that they have to work less at that than the new people who have just dropped 250+g for the skins over the summer, shame on their sense of entitlement.
I just think it’s wrong for people to DEMAND that these awesome items remain exclusive to last years event.
I just think it’s wrong for people to DEMAND that these awesome items come back so that they can get them cheaper than what the going rate the players have been paying is.
I dear hope not. Vampires may exist in the GW universe, but they look like this.
Besides, I think Edrick <s>Cullen</s> Thorn is a ghost like his old man. He was supposedly killed with him.
The “hopping vampire” of eastern myth isn’t really the same as the western vamp or the twilight vamp though, to be fair.
Looks more like a goth parody than a kitten.
The baseball card metaphor is dead on. You buy a bunch of packs hoping to get a rookie card and probably get a ton of doubles or cards you don’t want (tansformation tonics). If you don’t get a rookie card, you can go buy one directly for more money from the store. Down the road, if you go to buy that same rookie card it’s far more expensive but that doesn’t mean you get to demand that they re-issue the same card, in the same edition, just so you can get it for the cheaper price again.
Not everyone has the ability to get something when the only way to get it is random chance. It isn’t like these were special rewards for an event or contest. It was pure chance. If they were a reward for doing something I could accept them being unavailable, assuming the thing they were a reward for became unavailable.
Except this is completely inaccurate and doesn’t apply here since you can buy them on the TP and people have been doing so for the past year. The weapons have an established market value that people have been grinding to achieve based on the notion that they were a limited time offer.
SAB weapons were sell-able RNG weapons and they said they wouldn’t bring them back and effect value. The Jetpack was a limited-time, sell-able RNG item that they said they wouldn’t bring back and effect value/prestige. The halloween weapons are a sell-able RNG item and if they make is easily available (i.e. not 5 tickets) then they’re being completely misleading with their posts about protecting the prestige and value of limited time event items. They screw over anyone who just grinded 240 g to buy something based on statements regarding how they were going to treat such items.
Considering you got it because you were lucky and didn’t do any actual work for it everything you get no matter how low is profit.
Complete bullkitten. People have busted their kitten for the gold to buy expensive skins under the pretense that they would be treated like the SAB and jetpack sell-able exclusives.

Saying, I got it when it first happened so you shouldn’t be able to get it again is elitist. Period. It isn’t a question of ANets design choices, the direction they choose to go, nor what they mean by limited and prestigious. It’s telling someone that since they missed it they should not be given the opportunity to get it. Everyone should get the opportunity, that doesn’t mean they will, but the default attitude of saying no I don’t want you to have what I have is what is elitist.
Then buy it like everyone else has this past year, they’re still on the TP. If you want it to be rereleased so that it becomes cheaper than the price that new players have been grinding for the past few months then that’s just as much an over-inflated sense of entitlement as wanting no one to have is a sense of elitism.
If it comes back at all, it should cost 5+ BLC tickets like the other rare chest skins.
People can decry “elitism” while feeling entitled to anything they want but we were expressly given the following philosophy by Anet earlier this year as a defense for not bringing back the original SAB weapon skins:
Josh ForemanIt’s a design aesthetic. A lot people want prestige items which means limiting them. You can limit items by making the amount of time/resources required to get them very large, or you can limit them having them in for a limited time only. We could make every item easy to attain and permanently available, but then we lose the prestige factor. If you don’t value the prestige factor, then no arguments are going to make you understand. It would be like arguing someone into liking heavy metal or kimchi. Personally, I don’t particularly value the prestige factor, but I understand that it is a HUGE motivating force that drives the engine of the economy.
They actively defended their plan to not rerelease skins that were limited time only and already available on the TP for everyone else. There’s also a Colin Johanson quote somewhere saying how they won’t bring the jetpack back in order to maintain it’s value and prestige (which is also available on the TP for sale if you missed the event).
I personally know there are people who are new to the game and have busted their kitten to get hundreds of gold so they could buy limited offer halloween items from last year. IDK how they will be handled, but reintroducing them in a way that severely devalues them is a big F.U. to anyone who bought into what Anet lead us to believe about limited time skins remaining rare/valuable/prestigious.
If they bring them back, they should charge 5+ tickets like the other limited time BLC skins instead of presenting them in a way that kills their value and takes a dump on people’s hard work. Putting out skins with the foreword that they will be just as easily gained again at some point in the future is one thing, but it’s shady to tell us something is limited and give us multiple posts about maintaining value and prestige through limited time availability and then turn around and make similar items (still on the TP with an established market value) as easy to get again as they were in the first place.
I started a pic thread not realizing that’s what this one was.
My favorite thing from last halloween was the weapons.
EDIT: Didn’t realize there was already a thread pretty much doing this. Maybe a mod can erase this or integrate the threads.
Post your scariest, spookiest and most memorable pics from last year and this year’s halloween events!
I remember lots of people falling down in LA
(edited by panzer.6034)
They re-released the other old limited-time skins for 5+ tickets in the vendor. That seems a fair compromise since it doesn’t screw over the players who have already spent over 300g on a limited offered weapon skin.
I’d be ok with them coming back for 5 tickets like the other other old skins in the vendor. There are limited time skins on the TP from last halloween that people have spend hundreds of gold on and it would be unfair for them to make this set a special exception by making them widely available, killing the rarity and market value.
It’s king thorn’s brother, bloody prince thorn’s, coffin.
We’re gonna see some bro vs. bro halloween action.
Me too.

If you have one broken leg, you don’t fix it by breaking the other leg.
In other words, if one thing works well and other things suck, making the one thing that works well suck only makes everything suck.

Poorly written or not u need to grow up. English is my 4th language so maybe that should clarify it for u. ignorant ppl like u need to keep to themselves or learn how to converse with others.
Sorry if not everyone symphatizes with your elitist mindset…
So which i better: someone who only wants level 80 people joining a level 80 dungeon joining parties and then quiting out on them or someone who only wants level 80 people in a dungeon run being able to screen potential players and allow/disallow people without the hassle of ditching people?
It’s not a matter of elitism because people who want level 80 pugs to join a level 80 dungeon are going to kick or leave a bunch of level 50 pugs regardless of whether the game makes preventing such a situation easy or a hassle.
Bloody Prince Thorn
My guess is that Bloody Prince Thorn comes back. Maybe to mess with King Thorn or maybe as an alternate Halloween baddy.
I’d like to see the Clockheart’s spinning gear AOEs get a red circle. Their area of damage can be too hard to see when there’s a ton of them and effects going off everywhere.
SAB was solo content, now we get 5 man. We’ve only had 4 new dungeons in the past 13 months of game release and way, way more non-5-man-instances.
Bloody Prince Thorn.
Remember this post.
Lol. They made a bunch of new women’s styles and have half of them to the men.
and did you run to the forums complaining about content and then deleted your message too?
lol. i didnt notice he deleted the OP

these updates are becoming garbage anyways. Whats the point of having a melee class if you cant melee? Whats the point in being a warrior if in most scenarios you have to use rifle or longbow, its bullkitten
Good thing this in no way applies to this update then, huh?
Don’t understand what he is talking about. Perhaps he is only complaining for the sake of complaning.
He tries to melee and gets downed on his warrior.
When i first started playing, i was criticized for not meleeing enough on my war because i felt it was too dangerous on some bosses. After becoming more experienced, i melee bosses in dungeons and high level fractals all the time. Being afraid to melee as a warrior is simply a matter of learning the game mechanics and becoming a better player so that you know when to walk away or dodge for the most efficient, continuous DPS.

You’re not supposed to stand next to the ooze….
This is one case where one-shot mechanics work fine and serve a purpose. You don’t need to stand next to the ooze like you would a dungeon boss, since you’re not killing it, and because it one-shots you, you can’t stack on the bosses in a cheesy manner.
1. Kill Slick while clearing oil with the ooze.
2. Kill Sparki
3. Worry about kiting and knowing mechanics over DPS
4. Profit
Too hard? HAHAHAHAHAHA, say what?
Half the dungeon, including the final boss, can be solo’d. You only need extra people for the Ooze “puzzle” and the lightning room.
Videoproof or trolling?
Neither.
My party was utter **** and died within 10 seconds after they got up. I solo’d one ooze while the other 4 players did the other. I solo’d Slick and the last 20% of Sparki after the other 4 players died. I solo’d the last 40% of Spur after the other 4 players died. I solo’d 5 of the 8(?) hologram-generators, after, you get it by now, the other 4 players died. Ended up doing the Clockheart with 1 other guy and 3 dead on the floor. Soloing the optional events (running officer, keeping lionguard alive, keeping Turma above 75%, destroying the 3 Airships) is equally easy.
Bring food and skills that act as dodges.
In my group, myself and one other guy kept completing our ooze over and over while the other 3 guys on the other side kept having issues. I think you get less spawns with less people escorting.
