GW2 has much better QoL features: account wardrobe for ALL skins, unique nodes per player, shared tagging on mobs, etc. In BnS, nothing sucks more than other players stealing kills and nodes.

That said, having played to level 40+ inBnS and going back to GW2, it’s really hard to adjust because everything feel so slow and plodding in GW by comparison. My warrior stands still and does 100b in the same time that my destroyer would have landed 3 different skills, stunned, knocked someone down and comboed into a grab. Not to mention that windstride beats the heck out of guild wars meager speed boosts.

The aesthetics contrast a bit too. In guild wars, i struggle to find skins that look decent and almost never buy outfits. I always feel like i’m digging through manure to find a diamond. Meanwhile, in BnS pretty much all the outfits and weapon skins look amazing. If you took some of the more boring BnS skins and dropped them in the Gem store, they’d still probably be the most popular ones in GW2. Of course, in BnS, you have to pay to have a wardrobe at all, and the weapon skins are one-use only, which blows.

If i were to mash the games up, i’d take the zones, exportation points, quests, unique harvesting nodes, mob tagging and dodge rolling from GW2. I’d take character generation, all the skin designs, overall combat system, windstriding and bite-sized dungeons from BnS.

That or people with tons of gold, bought the achievement and can spend spend the rest of the holiday acquiring more gold by selling items they collect they in the game, for inflated prices since they don’t have to do the grind. Meanwhile people who do have to try to do the grind lose out or send up spending what little they have saved up to make up the shortfall.

To claim that this shifts the gold, is demonstrating a total failure to understand how the economy actually works. It really is keeping the already rich, rich and the poor, poor. As previous poster pointed out, this thinking is a false, proven false and yet repeated anyway.

If the rich really did blow all their money up front to buy the achievement then they’ve obviously just sent tons of gold to the people selling the mats right off the bat instead of hoarding them or using them. That means that the poor/average/casual player was making bank immediately as patch dropped while the rich send money to them. Yes, the rich can then start selling too once the achievement is finished but everyone was else was making bank selling to the whales from the get-go.

I’m sure there are poor players out there who feel like spending every gold in their bank on booze is worth it but I have no doubt that a huge portion of average/casual playerbase doesn’t know or care about the 10k drinks. My guild is loving this event so far because everyone is selling, selling, selling and making gold hand over fist from the rich players who are quick to blow all their cash early in the festival while the prices are the highest. If all of the money is actually going to the rich here, how exactly is everyone else making so much gold?

This is actually a good way to shift gold concentration in the community. Hardcore people sitting on a ton of gold just spent hundreds per person in order to knock the achievement out and that gold went into the pocket of casuals who just sell their stuff instead of hoarding.

I was really looking forward to more ascended gear from higher level fractals and not only is there less now, but it costs more to make it yourself. The meta changed and i want a new set to run raids but the changes are just so incredibly annoying that i want to sit out until they fix the rewards.

I guess maybe this counts a mild SPOILERS if you haven’t done high level fractals but…

…at high level, when you get downed, a ghost shows up and tries to do a finisher on you. My party caught on real quick, doing CC interrupts that seemed to stop the avenger with one hit. The guard used his push skill, the necromancer feared the FA, etc. turning her green. I’m on my warrior though and i found that even though i use my no. 2 hammer skill to knock the FA down, she still gets up to finish me off. Multiple times through out our recent runs, ive had to call for help when i’m downed because the warrior downed skill doesn’t seem to stop the avenger the way other classes’ skills do. Is this a bug? Is the warrior intentionally screwed by the Fractal Avenger mechanic?

I have more than one character with AR 75 and routinely do level 50 fractals. That said, i do think that having AR tied to armor is an unnecessarily clunky system. Swapping armor pieces between characters with different armor weights and racial skins is unbelievably cumbersome and punitive.

Changing AR over to some sort of account bound system the way magic find was seems like a good solution. You still keep the inexperienced PUGs out of high level content without punishing experienced players who want to make a lot of alts.

As someone who doesn’t have the dreamthistle weapons and could not afford them before this patch… I still don’t think they should be reintroducing old skins that are worth 1,000+ gold on the market at all. Sure, fix the rates and acquisition on new stuff that comes out but don’t do things to tank the value of limited time items that some people have already sunk a fortune into buying. I’m sure as hell glad i didn’t spend 1,400 g on an exclusive skin just for Anet to artificially make it worth something like 300 g after the fact.

There is no such thing as a value guarantee, you chose to spend that much money on it, anet is under no obligation to keep it that high so you can feel like a special snowflake.

So I’m a “special snowflake” despite saying i didn’t have the skins? lol.

Right, anet is under no obligation to not to tank market values of expensive items or screw up player confidence in any mechanical aspect of their game. They could give out precursors for 5g or turn all current dyes to pink next update if they really wanted to, but that doesn’t mean these are good ideas just because they have the ability to go through with them.

I agree with the OP. I am scared that anet is wasting resources on creating lots of adventures with bundles or gimmicky minigame mechanics. The idea of adventures sounds great, but please use your awesome combat system and different classes’ skills. Don’t reinvent the wheel. I didn’t spend thousands of hours on my character’s looks, build and loadout only to be handed a boring bundle that makes it feel I’m playing something on my phone. When I relevel a character I avoid ALL bundle quests (hearts) because they suck all fun out of the game immediately..

this right here.

Adventures sound awesome, but not using my own build, weapons, etc, doesn’t really encourage replaying something when it’s the same bundle and the same experience for every character.

They really need to add an Ascended Equipment box. If i am dual wielding ascended weapons and change the set out to a two-handed weapon on the hero screen, it dumps one of the pink items i just had equipped in a different box in my inventory from my other ascended weapons. Annoying.

So, some of them are beautiful art, it’s just hard to view them as any real kind of protection. Yes, I know, it’s a fantasy game with fireballs and giant horned cats, but everybody has something that bothers them even if they know it’s absurd.

Fair enough. It just seems part and parcel with the whole aesthetic of the world, to me. Improbable vehicles, plant people, giant weapons and dragons that could never fly in real life, etc. Armor that’s more about aesthetics than trying to stop all of these ridiculous things seems to fit.

But going “I’d rather have a front line warrior who will be clashing against the enemy and/or beasts in close quarters combat or hand to hand to have decent armor coverage.”

Does not mean

“OMG THAT TANK IS SO UNREALISTIC. AND THAT RACE. GRASAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH”

Armor does not = the entire setting.

People arguing for “realism” in heavy armor have to deal with the concept of versimilitude and that means considering the context of the armor, i.e. “the entire setting”. If your setting is based on everything being over the top with 10’ chainsaw swords, laser guns, improbable vehicles, force fields and 12’ foot long charzookas, then the idea that armors can be equally over the top or unrealistic is perfectly in line with the rest of the game.

Wanting the option for heavy armors that cover everything is perfectly fine (and that option exists!). Some people make the argument that boob plate armor and skimpy heavy armor shouldn’t exist as options in the game because they’re unrealistic and this just doesn’t make sense when you look at the big picture.

Not me, I want armor to look like armor. I personally just despise badly designed armor, regardless of which stupid fallacy they pick, be it chainmail bikini or skin tight metal catsuit.

It’s fine though, I’m used to most fantasy armor being ridiculous looking trash covered in cleave points, with zero thought given to it’s ability to actually function as armor. And that applies to most of the men’s armor as well.

If realistic aesthetics are what you’re looking for, i’m not sure how you can handle any of this game at all. Giant dieselpunk tanks, weird helicopters, jim henson cat people, little gremlin inventors with glowing crystal laser guns. Realistic armor would look completely mundane in a way that would clash with style of pretty much every culture in the game world.

As has been pointed out in a million other threads, in a game where people spit fireballs at will, use 10 foot swords made of energy and shoot lightning, an armor’s “ability to actually function as armor” doesn’t match with anything realistic in the first place.

Chainmail Bikini Syndrome has been a plague on the fantasy community for so many years that it isn’t going away anytime soon. Love it or hate it it’s just the way it is. GW2 isn’t nearly as bad as most games in the genre. I would love to see more FULL coverage female heavy armors though, and fewer(none) exposed skin death traps, but I can accept that lots of people don’t agree.

we are on the same boat
i would love to have more full coverage armor
an i wouldnt mind, even appreciate no korean type eposed heavy armor
sexy dont have to be showing skin, a good fit full coverage showing the perfect bodyline is way sexier than bikini

You should be happy with the status quo then since a majority of the existing heavy female armors are practically puritan in their sensibilities.

Please stop perpetuating the myth that GW2 heavy armors are skimpy. The reason you think they are is because the skimpy armors are preferred so you’re really seeing the same ones over and over again. Asking for variety should not be so opposed.

This.

A vast majority of the heavy armors are not skimpy and the ones that are sort of skimpy really aren’t. They could add 5 skimpy sets tomorrow and ‘skimpy’ would still be the minority of heavy armors.

ppl who want sexualized armors are playing the wrong game
there are tons of Korean, Japanese MMO offer that
and i like GW2 heavy armor set, it doesnt make sense a heavy armor showing so much skin and provide huge defence

That’s like telling the dealer that you’d prefer the Honda civic that you’re looking at to be red and they recommend a red f-150 truck instead. Obviously people like the gameplay but would like the option for the aesthetics they prefer too.

My only problems with Female Human armor I have:
- Leggings – too many skirt like
- Boots – too many making a leg 3 times bigger
- Shoulder – way too big and too many are asymetric -and that applies to medium and light armor as well.

Nonono, shoulders should be bigger, boots should be smaler, period. I kinda Agree with this thread.

Yeah, the female shoulders and models in general are tiny and puny looking compared to the males. It’s especially apparent in the norns. I also want the option to turn one or the other paulron off so i can make them asymetrical if i choose.

Content being walled off because a person wasn’t playing or didn’t even know the game existed at the time these items were available isn’t all that nice either.

I did know that the game existed back then, and I excessively played it. I just did not get blessed by the RNG gods.

So all the “the jetpack is only for players who played back then” argumentation is nullified, given that people who played back then didn’t got it, even if they played the content.

One general bit of advice i always try to follow: if there is a rare, limited-time item drop that i really want, i buy it on the TP while it’s cheap. I’ve never ever gotten a rare BLC skin or limited-time drop that i wanted from an event but i have a bunch of the skins on my account because i bought them when they first came out. I got the molten backpack when it was still like 30g on the TP, for example.

Yeah, it sucks if you want it down the road and it’s 3,333+ gold but i don’t see Anet changing their policies and that’s why i personally try to jump on things while the price is low.

Molten Jetpack!!!!!!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: panzer.6034

panzer.6034

I just looked at the TP and it would cost 8543 gold just to buy my back skin, mini and GS skin again, but that’s why they don’t re-release these items at super cheap prices. There are people paying 3,333 g for the molten jetpack and people would rage if they started a policy of arbitrarily tanking the market value of timed, limited drop items.

The best you can hope for is something like the Halloween re-release where there was a lottery with a small pool of the rare skins put out a second time. There were enough to put more on the market without totally killing the price and we probably wouldn’t have any greatsaws currently on the TP if it weren’t for that event.

They could release another quality colour of the skins in the same vendor that gives candy corn cobs, and require a hefty price and make those account bound on aquire, and then change the quality colour of the skins on the TP to a higher quality and keep those the way they are currently.

Market doesn’t get flooded with more of the high value items, current market items on the TP still hold value as they are tradable, and people get what they want.

That would be a decent compromise. Even better, “reimagine” some of the popular old skins instead of just a recolor. A Greatsaw MKII, for example.

Better idea! They bring back all the old skins with them being fully tradable, lots of players get what they want, and the people holding on to old skins for a fortune get a reminder that this is an MMO. Situations change, and kitten happens, that’s the risk of playing with big money in the market.

They have to be careful about jerking around the playerbase by suddenly fooling with the value of expensive “luxury” items. Personally, I’d like the ghastly shield but I really don’t want to a play game where you grind and save up tons of gold to get rare, limited time items only to have to have the publisher arbitrarily decide to tank their market value.

I would love another shot at getting the Greatsaw, and would prefer not spending almost 1500g for the skin.

They’d need to be very careful not to kill the value of things that have become as costly as precursors.

So far, they’ve been good with the ticket scheme as far as not destroying the value of limited items that people have spent a ton of gold on. The biggest reason we haven’t seen the precursor scavenger hunt released is because they are aware that throwing something in the game that completely crushes the existing market value of rare items that people have spent thousands of gold on is not good for the game. I have one friend who busted their kitten and spent 3k on the greatsaw back in the summer and another one that sunk a ton of gold into the black shield. If they do a 180 and implicitly make valuable skins cheap, they set a bad precedent for future policy.

So unless Anet wants to publish different in NA/EU and China we will get the exact same event as last year. There was an overview of the event on the Chinese site. There will be a collection achievement though (see attachement).

One interesting note on things being different in different zones: People have pulled Black Lion ad graphics for certain weapon sets out of the Western data since China came out when the weapon sets were only introduced to China instead of being brought back in the west. In the summer, for example, the Aetherblade weapon ad popped up in the data since they were brought out in China even though they weren’t brought back or on sale for BL tickets.

The halloween ad for the first set of halloween weapons was recently found in the data and people immediately assumed they were bringing them back. They might, but this also follows the pattern of them sticking the artwork in the data for a Chinese release of an older weapon set and giving us something different.
