I still like the idea that all the forces she’s been combining are really her version of the Pact and that her giant marionette is a weapon to fight the dragons.
All of this is a build up to wipe out the dragons so that the natural cycle of the world can be destroyed.
I agree with what someone else said in another thread after looking over the video again and again, it looks like she’s ‘stepping’ on the ‘plates’ that are aligned in a semi-circle. The 5 pinkish “discs” seem to “resonate” when the marionette steps on them.
My personal theory, at least for the marionette, is that its not necessarily a ‘weapon’, but another form of giant ‘drum’, fashioned from the technology that she’s already played around with.
It would also kill most lower and mid-level zones more so than they already suffer from. Without the ability to easily go wherever you want, there will be precisely zero reason to go back, as some people (like myself) prefer to leave things untouched and come back to later. With this change, I’d finish up a zone on a character and never, ever go back there unless I absolutely needed something from a karma vendor.
Why would it kill the reason to go anywhere? I never use asura gates and i waypoint all over the place.

Some people posting here don’t seem to understand the OP.
Yes, you can transmute but the problem is that if you grinded for hours to get an ascended set and then placed an expensive skin on it, you then are far, far, far less likely to buy more skins and overwrite your super costly ascended gear. When exotic was the tops and was easy to come by, it wasn’t a big deal to pick up some new pieces to add new skins to and show off your new look without losing stats. When the BiS armor is super hard and expensive to get, you’re less like likely to buy fancy new skins when your options are to either put them on sub-optimal gear (exotics) or destroy the expensive skins you already have on your maxed-out armor set.
Having some rare, limited-time stuff that you need to show up for to get is a good thing for the game. If everything always comes around and is available to everyone perennially, then it kills the specialness of having exclusive items, and i say this as someone who wants some of the old skins and can’t afford them atm.
That said, these specific wintersday ones were never particularly rare or exclusive and i bet that some time during this event we will see a new BLC set.
Even though i’ve been a serious gamer since Atari, GW2 was my first serious MMO experience. After being disappointed with 99% of the gear in the game, i started looking up galleries of other recent MMOs and was completely amazed at how the designs of pretty much every korean MMO that has come out in the past few years completely blows GW2’s stuff out of the water. Maybe they need to hire more korean artists.
There’s no point hiring good artists if the people who actually have to model the gear aren’t going to, or are allowed to, put in the effort required to get them to an at least acceptable level of quality for all races. I mean look at charr, they’re a race of gigantic humanoid bull-tigers. When properly geared they should look like pictures 1 and 2 but instead they almost always look like 3.
There’s no point drawing up the best looking swords and armour in the world if the final product is going to be a distorted smudgy mess on everything that isn’t a human or sylvari.
Actually, I was looking at in-game model galleries of gear. Maybe they need to hire some of the korean artists who model the awesome artwork. That said, there is a lot of incredible, artistic GW art, but a lot of it is amazing based on rendering, lighting, composition, technique and other things as opposed to pure gear design. Some of these artists could clearly make epic-looking nudes if that were the goal.

You really think we are even going to get a patch on 24th… as with the current schedule that is where the patch after this would be, The chances are high that unless they have already prepared the patch after Wintersday there won’t be another patch until January and even then releasing something when people are heading out of the office for holidays decreasing response time to potential problems seems very unlikely to me.

I’m sorry but “you need ascended gear because it has slots that you can put AR in” isn’t complicated at all. You don’t even have to do fractals to get AR now to get it.
“Buy pink gear with laurels or guild commendations and stick AR in it” is about as simple as you can get.
No. People that go into a dungeon/fractal that are under the level requirement are just a liability and will be carried the entire time. Being upscaled does not help them.
Not everyone that is lvl 80 is good players, nor is everyone that is lvl 35 in need of being carried.
I have personally had to carry way more lvl 80 players than lower-leveled players in dungeons overall.
And, in real life, there are some double amputees with no arms that can hold their own in a bar fight. This doesn’t mean that if you go drinking with your amputee buddies and get into melee, you’re not at a disadvantage.

Why do people keep posting without reading any of the topics? Your AR will be the same as it was before the update and fractals are just as accessible to newcomers and casuals as it always was.
I think the WP travel thing wasn’t even the biggest factor. In order of largest to smallest, i i think the interest groups among voters were “casuals who just saw Kiel as the obvious good guy” > “players who cared about WP costs and RNG” > “people who cared about fractals”.
On top of that, you had all these subgroups that were not all mutually exclusive of each other such as “people who played GW1”, “people who didn’t play GW1”, “people who care about Abaddon”, “people who run Fractals” and “people who care about Thaumanova”. Any given person could belong to a number of these groups simultaneously.
In all seriousness, Kiel didn’t win because of WP costs. She won because joe average player that never visits the forums logged in and saw that she was clearly portrayed as the hero of the story line while Evon was portrayed as an underhanded villain.

In the actual dialogue and missions presented for the LS, Evon was clearly shown as an underhanded scoundrel who wanted to steal Kiel’s thunder and keep stolen goods instead of return them (as Kiel was going to). That’s the Gnashblade your average player saw and the most obvious reason he got voted down.

Even if that story portrayed him as Jesus Christ, it wouldn’t effect my point: he was portrayed as a shady character in the living story, in-game, and that’s what your average players sees when they think about voting. It doesn’t matter if he’s saved buses full of nuns and babies in a side-story on the internet, he was shown trying to capture stolen goods for himself while Kiel wanted to return them and to hide around corners plotting to undermine someone else’s trade agreement for his own personal gains.

I know that the FotM can be intimidating for those who have never tried it and sometimes the forum gives the impression that it’s for hardcore players (and maybe some elitists).

Please guys, this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. The half measure of only resetting this group of peoples level to 30 is unacceptable. Everyone should start out fresh. It isn’t punishing anyone anymore than it already is, if they’re going to reset it then they should reset it all the way.
If you failed to get up to level 30 after an entire year, that’s completely on you. It has nothing to do with Anet or this update. They’re punishing hardcores who got way over 30 already and now you want to punish everyone by bringing them down to your level because you couldn’t bother to do the content before?

If I’ve understood this correctly all the Infusions you’ve paid/MFed (to get inherited +5 on your pieces will stay), but those extra +5 that you bought from 75 relics will be washed away. Am I correct?
No. Nothing is changing accept that the inherent +5 AR in infused items is become a special, infinitely upgradable slot. All other infusions and slots are untouched.
Yes, this is a big issue. I still haven’t been able to complete a single fractal because people always use exploits, cheats and probably hacks too and I have to leave immediately because I don’t want to get banned.

You could pull out your credit card and buy a legendary, you could buy your precursor and build your legendary in time.
But there was NO guarantee you’d ever dual wield Fractal swords.
And i know people with bank tabs full of fractal weapons. How many people do you know with bank tabs full of legendaries?

Wiki now says you can’t get skins at thous lvls, but the last update was only few days ago…
Their are already so few items in game that show your dedication or rng luck and can’t be simply bought with money… If after the next patch people will start getting skins from lvls 10 it will be a sad day. I spend a long long time until I got my sword, sb, pistol and frankly I don’t want other to have it easy now…
Many will not agree, but if I can chose my skin then the drop rate of thous boxes should be very low, because getting your skin should be something you really want and give it a lot of time and some may get lucky, some may not get lucky, it life/rng… It needs to be hard so after you get it you would get a feeling of a achievement for your self.
This update makes me worry, because I don’t want fractal skins to become dungeon skins. Don’t make them more common plz plz plz…. Don’t carter this time to general public, lets us 1-15% of players be happy with our skins.

Lolwut. No one is using hacks or getting banned for running fractals.
Went at it from day one, guild went on without me since there were a few of us that couldn’t get vials or rings to drop. By the time we could get ascended pieces via laurels, they were already at fractal level 40+ and couldn’t be bothered to come back (there were no rewards for doing lower fractals at that time).
So yeah, no interest to start all over again and sink a weeks worth of work in to a ring that I’ll just have to overwrite via MF assuming I ever got enough vials/globs/etc to upgrade it.
